Giants Fire Brian Daboll After 20-40-1 Record In New York | Pat McAfee Show

Five team was there because this the hell. Okay. [Music] Jack car here. Oh no. He better be. Mhm. Zo’s on the road. Baby Z that thing didn’t close either. The the fire trap door. Well, that is actually I think that is sports media telling us through we have breaking news. Brian Dable has been fired. What? As the New York Giants head coach, uh, in the middle of the first 15 here, our alarms were sirening off because, hey, there’s breaking news. Stop talking about the Pittsburgh Steelers losing the Chargers. You lost enough of your life watching that game last night. Pivot to some breaking news. The New York Football Giants are moving on from their head coach. Joining us now, ladies and gentlemen, a senior NFL insider for ESPN, Michigan man, Adam Shfter. Chefy, Chefy, I know you were kind of waiting for us to finish while you were breaking that news. Did you expect that was coming this morning or has this kind of come out of nowhere for you, Chef Dy? No, I think that we kind of had a sense that this was possible. We knew this was coming. And Pat, our timing has been impeccable over the last week where basically you’re getting me on this. We got sauce Gardner being traded. Rasheed Shahed being traded. Quinnon Williams was coming down last week. Oh. Um, let me remind you of all the things I’ve done here to you. It is. It is just Brian Davel who’s been dismissed. That is the only one. And interesting. We’re in the middle of a season here. This is uh this is pretty amazing when you look at it. Uh the Giants interim head coach, whoever that will be, uh will be their sixth head coach since 2016. Jeez. Okay, so that’s nine years ago, sixth head coach. Obviously, a lot of turnover. We saw the hard knocks behind the scenes in the offseason whenever, you know, Mara comes in and Shane talks about moving on from Saquon to go in with Danny Dimes. We’ve seen Dayball run the meetings basically for all of their picks that they’ve done at the combine in the draft process. Dayball knew this was a make or break season. Uh is that why he potentially wanted Aaron Rogers maybe his quarterback, Russell Wilson as a quarterback, Jameus Winston as a quarterback, like a veteran quarterback to be able to go on a run? And what does this mean for Jackson Dart in a development of the future here? She in your eyes? Well, I I think here’s the deal. Jackson Dart has been evaluated for four concussions this year. Four. And so the biggest thing this team can do is make sure it’s protecting its quarterback. We’ve got a quarterback that has been evaluated for concussions. We’ve got a team that has blown double-digit leads in four different road games. They are the inverse of the Chicago Bears. They’ve been in position to win all these games and haven’t gotten it done. And I think that at some point in time, you make the decision that we’re not going to move forward with this guy. I think this is a team also that puts so much money and time and investments and picks into its defense and the defense is one of the worst in the league right now. And so I think that they feel like they need a reboot here. Let’s talk about dayball over there in New York. Obviously, they have the quarterback carousel this off seasonason where they’re trying to find out who is going to be the guy that’s gonna be taking snaps for them after they move on from Danny Dimes. Danny Dimes is now an MVP. Looks like Wilson right now having improvement. Uh Danny Dimes is obviously in the MVP conversation alongside Jonathan Taylor. We’re going to win a Super Bowl that uh Saquon Barkley won a Super Bowl with Philadelphia Eagles. Everybody leaves that place and has great success. Now Dayball is the next one kind of getting booted. What is this an indicator of in your eyes and uh what are your thoughts on the state of the uh Giants right now? Well, I mean you went through that and I think a lot of people thought when they let go of Saquon and they didn’t come up with with answers that following year that Daveball would would maybe be let go. They stuck with him and you know he he made it pretty clear. We actually had Patriots Giants preseason and Dall made it very clear to me that Jackson Dart is going to be special. you know, he said, “I I I got Russ right now, but man, I really love this rookie and what he can do.” And obviously eventually we saw him get that opportunity. This another franchise that just figures out ways to lose games, you know, like they they just don’t know how yet how to win football games and play complimentary football. They play well enough. You go back and look at, I don’t know, four or five of their losses. They’ve played well enough to win these games and they just can’t can’t flo close close them out. And I I think that whoever inherits this job is going to inherit a a team that has a lot of potential. I mean, when you put Scataboo and Malik Neighbors and Jackson Dart all together, all healthy, um there’s a lot I think to work with, not to mention what they have on that defensive front. So, whoever’s going to get this job down the road there, it’s not like you’re starting from square one and how do we get this thing going in the right direction? I think the vision of what they had there is is there. I think you can see it. I just think that this team at times seems to almost be jinxed. They just cannot close out games and games that they’ve played well enough to win that they’re sitting there scratching their head thinking, “How the hell do we get ourselves in this predicament?” So, I think it’s I I love Dave. Dave’s a great guy. He’ll he’ll land on his feet somewhere, but whoever gets this job to me is going to have a hell of a nucleus to work with moving forward. Yeah, I love We all love Scataboo. Obviously, Jackson Dart needs to take care of himself going forward. We hope he’s able to do that. And obviously the New York market is a beautiful one if you’re able to win. Bruce, we haven’t really got your thoughts on Daybo exit in town. New York Giants fan Bruce Bryan there. There had to be accountability. Uh Brian Dable’s 2040 and one record is the worst of any coach in Giants history. Shout out to Hembo. You know, this was the Madoo. Yeah, that’s worse than Makadoo. Worse than Shurmer. Makadoo. That’s a good Makadoo was good before he got that haircut. when he had the bad haircut. He was a good coach. You know, he’s a Western Pennsylvania guy, too. So, I didn’t love everything he was doing with his hair and all that stuff. And the way you guys in New York were talking about him, I didn’t necessarily love cuz how similar our names were and how we grew up in the same waters and everything like that. But I thought he would have definitely been the worst, but no, that’s not the case. I guess Hembo says, “Geez Louise.” Part of it is, you know, 2022 he won coach of the year and we won a playoff game and that kind of extended his leash to get to the 61 games to be able to lose lose 40 of them. Um, I mean it it sucks. I agree. I think Brian Dball is probably a a good football coach. You know, coached under Nick Sabin and Bill Bich and um, you know, seems like he’s a pretty good football mind, but losing is the disease that infected the Giants organization and um, you know, kind of reared its head worse this year than ever before where you’re blowing uh, three 10-point leads on on the road. Um, but you know, it’s also not on all on Brian Dable. Like Joe Shane built the secondary that is uh turned into the the worst in the NFL this year. Um, missed on a ton of draft picks both on on defense and and in the trenches with the O line. Um, so I hopefully there’s more accountability. Shane Bowen probably um doesn’t deserve to be defensive coordinator and I don’t know if Joe Shane deserves to be a GM looking for a head coach. Shane, Giants fans certainly going through it. second half losses, especially whenever you have the lead. Just just take it just take everything out of you.
