Mike Brown on Jalen Brunson’s ankle after Knicks’ loss to Magic
Okay, you know, I thought in the first
half, we didn’t do first of all, you
got to give them credit, Jamal, Mosley, and the rest are Lando magic. They kicked our ass. This is
simple as that. They came out with the physical presence that we didn’t handle. Well, we talked about them, getting to
the free-throw line. They’ve done a really, really
good job at it. They’ve been averaging around
Thirty Four free throws in game and they basically hit their
average on top of that, you know, against a good team, you have to
win The Possession game in order to give yourself a chance
to win the game and we got our ass kicked in
that 3219. Basically that’s about
free throw attempts plus offensive rebounds – turnovers. So give those guys
a lot of credit. Now, we we were we were a little better in those areas
in the second half, but when you dig a hole like we did in
the first half, it’s going to be hard. It’s going to be hard to come
back and win the game. But there are a lot of things
that for me, watching the game were first time for us. One of them is we had ten
offensive rebounds. Now again you got to give
Orlando a lot of credit because they were really good on the
glass but just watching the game or
thinking back on the game, we didn’t we didn’t crash. Many crashes shot went up and
everybody just watched and then jog back and even though we watch the jog
back, a still based on the way that we charted they
still scored 33 fast-break
points against us for the game. So we didn’t crash. We had 10
offensive rebounds, nor did we get back in
transition? We also had 11 sprays for the
game. That’s a season-low, 11 sprays and we have to be better in that
area. But the thing that I was most
disappointed in was in the first half everything that happened on the
court, we blame the officials. And that was disappointing to
see because we were the culprits of a lot of
stuff that happened out on the floor. Six of their first eight points
came from the free-throw line and we found them. I couldn’t even use a challenge. Because we were fouling. And if one of our keys is to
play physical without fouling, but our first, the first six points were first,
three or four possessions that they have started the free throw line. Then we’re not giving ourselves
a chance, and we’re letting them feel comfortable with the
way that they play. So take my hat off to Mosley Jamal Mosley and the rest of his staff, and
their team, because they came in, and they took the game from us,
starting with their physicality. He think he turned his right
ankle. Yeah. He turned his right ankle but that’s all I
know. Yep. We didn’t respond well until the
second half, you know, I mean, they were scored 50 points in the paint
that thirty three free throws in the first half. They had nine
offensive rebounds nine. And you know, we did not respond
well our response which you know I don’t like was to go at the
referees. and I personally think it doesn’t matter how to game is being called if we’re locked in and we’re
playing like we’re capable of We don’t need to rely on the
officials making this caller that call and so our focus in that area
was not where it should have been. I guess problems in my opinion
started last night. That was one of the things that we talked
about in the second half last night of our game. We didn’t do a great job spacing
the floor. And, you know, a lot of times
when we start our cuts, the cuts would be slow. And, you know, I don’t know, you know what? It was it but our
guys would stop in the paint instead of making an
extra effort to reach space. Like we’ve been
doing and there’s no different tonight. I
thought our spacing was it, good? I thought our ability to handle
the basketball while getting bumped. Wasn’t good, you know? And did it get better in the second
half? Yes, it did. But again, you dig yourself a
hole like that. It’s gonna be a long night. You know, we’re no excuse team and if we’re no excuse team, we
got to go play the right way as best we can and not lay the
blame any place, sell any place else except Square on us. So it doesn’t matter if we play
three games in a row, we got to go, figure it out and if we can’t, maybe I need to go
deeper into the bench in play guys. Lesser minutes. Maybe that’s why I can help
them. But we can’t sit here and say, well we play
last night, they did this, and they know go into game, play the
right way, leave it on the floor and if you leave it on the
floor, the right way. You’re not going to win them
all. Then you take it out move on to
the next one. I just didn’t think that we did a great job. Doing what
we’re supposed to do to set the tone especially Actually, at the beginning of
the game. Yeah, no, that’s great. Cause some of them was in transition. You know, when you play Fat,
that’s a whole just of playing fast. That’s why we want to play
Fast. Get the ball out. Because what happens is teams
don’t have a chance to set their defense. They just have rules that they
got to go by. And last night, we didn’t follow
our rules, and that’s why they get all those layups
and transition tonight. We did a better job following our
rules, give them credit with that, but what that does, sometimes it
puts a small guy on a bigger guy and we did our smaller. When that
happened are smaller. Guys did not do their work early. And
what I mean by that is they let the Bigger guy, walk them or run
them all the way down to the dots or charge line. And
then we tried to start fighting and one of our main rules is if
you’re guarding a bigger guy, you got to stand them up at
least at the top of the key. We didn’t do that in so you got to do your work
early in those situations and then if he does catch down
there, all bets are off, we got to collapse and we just turned
and watched catch and shoot over the top of us. So, there’s some areas that we
can clean up. We cleaned up them to certain degree and
transition from last night, but we could still be better. The second area is the
pick-and-roll. We would get cracked on the pick and roll or
the DHL because we weren’t up into the ball. And so our big enough, taking a
ball and then to the role in this to the post, and we didn’t
do a job. Good job of recognizing it. Trying to bump the switch. As they roll the
small down to the post. Just trying to spark something
defensively offensively at, you know, Mi Deuce hit a couple.
Four, threes. I thought he was pretty good
defensively. Same with Landry. I thought they
were pretty. I thought he was pretty good defensively. You know, he hit a couple of
shots and so I was just trying to go with find the combination that I thought could possibly
get it done on both ends just searching

I’m not worried. All of our losses come from us not making shots. Our defense could use some work but if only a couple guys are scoring, no amount of defense is gonna overcome that. With our style of play, we’re gonna lose if we’re bad offensively. This lose doesn’t change the 5 game win streak we had where we played beautiful basketball. It’s also only November so it’s only up from here.
The vibe was bad from tip off. Specially on a back to back, with friendly whistle against us. You don't win these types of games.
He knows what went wrong thats good
Coach Brown knows his stuff . He explains the breakdown perfectly . Back to back this will happen most of the time . I like how coach brown knows what his team didn’t do , and what the magic did . Just his he breaks it down from a basketball sense . We will be fine .
Coach saying thex right thing and I agree see what we have on the bench if not for just a minute or two
Part of the problem is having to rest Mitch, then reinsert him in the line up and it's causing continuity issues. Plus Mitch has to try to come in with energy after sitting out a game
Bad coaching for tonight
Know when to pull your players bruh this is a bad loss we got miami two games in a row, mike kinda screwed our next week or two
Glad coach Mike Brown pointed out that the team started to blame the referees. 100% agree on that! Knicks were notorious for that even back when they had Randall. Also, I blame the coach as well because I saw Clarkson sitting on the bench for 75 to 80% of the game! Why?! He should have put Clarkson in with some bench help and gave him the green light to go score!!!!
Benched JHart and Mikal got 1 min in the 4th qt. But kept JB in, down 16 with 2 mins left for him to get injured. Make it make sense.
deadass the best knicks coach since mike woodson . NY with you 1000%
Coach Brown is incredible I love listening to him talk he explains everything perfectly. I think he's doing an awesome job
Excuses bad coaching
BING BONG PLAY THE SONG!
Love that he holds the team accountable.
I would have played the bench players more.
Our starting 5 need to be more consistent. Thus why they lost this game.
Magic always clap the Knicks, they vigorously exploit Brunson and KAT’s softness. Everyone got cooked this game
I just feel in love with this man. Pause. We are a no excuse team. That was an amazing answer.
Love his accountability and clarity .
Yes sir going deeper at least as you always say see what is working…too
many mis matches . not enough sprays as you noted. Saw tired legs coach. Love our Knicks and the job you and your staff are doing.
We aren’t that good as we think.
Every year it's the same thing with this guy.He drives on three and four people.Of course, you're gonna get hurt, and that's what he does.He gets hurt ballhogging. What is he doing playing thirty seven minutes in a game where new york is getting blown out.Aside from him, just padding stats, same old coaching tail wagging the dog
It started from the opening tip with Brunson reverting back to his old style of hero ball. The first 4 possessions he looked to score instead of getting his team involved. He froze out the rest of the guys and it continued to show throughout the game. He needs to stick to what has been working and that’s moving the ball. Less iso and dribbling every possession and more ball movement.
They shot the ball better, and they played better D….It happens,we’ll bounce back…
Great job coach
KAT needs to stop crying all the time. His low post moves are so weak
Just one bad game. Every team has one of these nights. The Knicks are a good team, expect after as 5 game winning streak including two tough victories over Timberwolves and grizzlies. Knicks need to regroup and focus on the next game
The Knicks played lousy They don't
looked like a play off team. Josh Hart always be.looking for some
one to pass the ball
watching Mike Brown
Why is your best player still in the game?😂😂😂
Doing a good job coach but you can't have cap in the game 2mins 2 go down 15 ?,?? Wtf?,,,,😮😮😮😮😮😮 said the night owl ! This one's on you!!!!!
