Should the Mets go after Cody Bellinger?

Eddie, what have you learned
about the market for Cody Bellinger while at the winter?
You’re at the GM meetings here. Well, so the the years and
dollars on this one are still, I think we’re still
in the early stages, to be able to predict that but it just
feels like a player who’s who is going to be
priority number one for the Yankees and who I know, I
covered Cody Bellinger with the Yankees, he loved being
there, so it that conversation really is
like the Yankees Yankees, Yankees, anybody else? I do think clearly, he solves a
lot of the Mets problems just because he’s such a good
baseball player so versatile. He prevents runs from a lot of
different positions, but when you look at all, the
chess pieces on the board for the offseason, let’s say the
Mets, made us strong play for Cody Ballenger, over the next
couple of weeks they sign him they can say they have a first
basement and now Ballinger’s, excuse me, Peter
Lanza doesn’t have the Mets anymore as a potential Suitor so you can
look at it from the agent perspective. You look at it from
the broader perspective and I’m just not sure that that
one lines up timing wise for the Mets because of the Alonzo. Situation. And also just because if the Yankees can decide that they want to pay, what Ballinger
wants, whatever that turns out
to be hard to see that he doesn’t just
go back to the Bronx. It’s just it just fits perfectly him
and that team bought to your point. He would also fit
perfectly with the med stay tuned for that. Alright and it
is always, we appreciate your time and the info enjoy your
night in Vegas Hawk. Bring it back in-house.
Here you expecting another bidding war between the Mets and
Yanks listen. It could be. I mean he does and he’s right. I
mean he does fit the Mets perfectly in some ways. I think
he’s even more perfect. If Alonso comes back if you had Ballinger and Alonzo. Now you got boundary can play
first base and allow the lungs or DHS times. And also move
around place in center field and walk kind of keeping the
door, open for Carson bench. You Stearns talked about the
other day. So I, he just way left, getting mod, H, do that.
And, and there’s a million ways to use him. He fits does fit them perfectly, but as he said,
it does feel like it’s inevitable. He would go back to
Yankee. So the the Mets, want them are going to have to overpay
over. Over whatever if they’re going
to get him back from the Yankees I think. Anyway.
Yeah, I believe he’s going to be a Yankee as well but he does fit
the Mets in a great way and harp you nailed it. I think that
the center field question for the Mets is really really
interesting because Carson benge he rocketed. He
started the season in Brooklyn last year and he made it through
up to three was in three levels. Last year
he played a handful of games at the AAA level you know wasn’t
great. There’s some development that still needs to happen
there. What if you sign Cody Bellinger? If you’re the Mets
and he’s the center fielder for the first A month month and a half of the
season and then Carson benge proves that he’s
ready to play in the majors. He move him up. He’s the center
fielder. Now, you have this guy. You can deploy at all these
different places including first base when you
trying to get through the Lonzo off first base a little bit if you can because he’s not
the defender the Bellinger, is there it opens up a lot of
interesting possibilities and obviously the mental have to
investigate here. Yeah, the Yankees will be worse without Cody Bellinger just
because of the flexibility he provides in the lineup in the
field. This You came back at 29, tanks 98 RBIs, like he came
back offensively, I love this story because he was down and out. Nobody
wanted him came back, came through the Cubs back with the
Yankees, like, he looks so good. He’s only going to be 30
the whole season 10 years in the big leagues and he’s 30
years young, like, that’s incredible, the Mets, I
think, if they get him, would have quite the juggling
act to provide, especially if Carson bench can come up and do
the job, obviously, David Stern’s, talked about needing
somebody, who can play that lockdown spot, right Thailand
time. Our own Taylor was seven runs defensive saved like he did
and he was so good with offense, wasn’t there? I like Cody
Bellinger a lot of the Yankees and he said it, he, it was so
obvious how much he loved his time in the Bronx. Like it was
clear to everybody. But yes, he would be incredible with the
Mets and they would be better if they hadn’t. I know the Yankees
need him and I know he fits their the Mets, need him even
more. If you’re just looking at the pieces to the puzzle, to
your point can play center can play left. Can play first. Then
you have d h, Versa flexibility. Utility it is the
perfect fit. You could argue and you know I love. So do more
than anybody. You could argue the Mets need
Bellinger to build, a better team more than they needed Soto
and his star power obviously. So do the better player but
Bellinger fits better and upgrades defense in three
positions of need for the Mets, be fascinating. If
I don’t think he’s leaving the Yankees, but thanks Yankees
did better last year because Ballinger was on the team and
not so do no. Think I don’t think that.
No, I don’t, I think the Mets need him, Yankees also have
Grisham in Centerfield Mets. Didn’t have that. So it make you
feel top. Spencer-jones like a bring up Carson. Bandy
Soto is Soto. No, I get it, I get it but when
you talk about trying to build a team out, Cody Bellinger could
help the Mets in multiple ways in the field and at the

On Baseball Night in NY, Sal Licata, Dani Wexelman, Anthony McCarron, and John Harper discuss if Cody Bellinger is a better fit for the Mets or Yankees.

  1. For me it would depend on contract. He hit 29 bombs in the Bronx. I don’t see him getting that many in citi field. His defense is great. I think he fits with the Yankees

  2. @snytv you guys keep over hyping Cody bellinger for the Mets! He is an inconsistent player that was unplayable for 2 years in LA. He is a product of a left in Yankee stadium and he will want a long term contract at a large salary. We need pitching pitching pitching! And we don’t need trades to get it… the offseason is simple. Resign Alonso , Diaz and Tyler rodgers . Then add a frontline starter in free agency such as framber Valdez who you guys somehow do like or play down how good he is. He is a bonafide number 2 starter that is consistent and eats up innings and saves the pen. You then need to add 1 to 2 more quality pen arms.. no more of these 4.5-6 era guys like stanek , Soto and helsley they last the season for us. Then let the kids compete for CF with benge and Jett both in AAA and let the young pitchers McLean in the rotation and tong and Sproat get hot in AAA and then get called up. .. simple and easy game plan … we don’t need to trade the whole farm for skubal or spend all our money on position players like bellinger and Bergman etc.
