Ikem Ekwonu: ‘We want to own the trenches’ | Carolina Panthers
when other teams know what that is and have a gives them a b, you know, a foundation to try to stop. I mean, I feel like the identity for us, we want to be inside out. You know, we want to start with the trenches, work our way out. We want to own the trenches, offense, O line and D line. Talk about it every week, you know, that, you know, just having the team and just the offense and defense flowing through the line. And I really feel like we try to adopt that every day. There’s a lot of talk about stretching the field. I know you don’t throw the ball, you got to make the time for Bryce to do that. as an offensive lineman, how important is that in your eyes to try to establish taking some shots to maybe open up other stuff inside? I mean, pass pro is half my job if you kind of want to break it down like that. So, it’s very important to us, you know, just giving Bryce as much time, giving the receivers as much time to get open as we can. You know, it’s only going to help our offense. Could you throw the ball? Shoot. I grew up playing soccer and all that stuff. I had to learn how to throw the ball. If you ask the guys earlier, my my throwing mechanics are way off. I feel like they’re a lot better now. So I I I feel like if I needed to go in there, I could throw the ball a little bit. Who on the offensive line would make the best quarterback? You think the best quarterback? Out of the room, who you think would do the best job at it? That’s a good question. That’s a good question. Mitchell. No, you say Oh, just O line. Yeah, just O line. I don’t know. I don’t know. I know. I know someone behind me wants me to say them, but I’m not going to say it. I’m not going to say it. I’m gonna I’m gonna give it to myself. I’m going to give it to myself just because how much I’ve learned over the years. I feel like I really study the game, study the art of the mechanics and using your hips. I learned that from Andy. Uh so yeah, you know, I’m going put myself in that. There was a lot of talk this week from Dallas and guys about like refocusing after that loss. Have you noticed that or is it more about shifting mindset or is it about returning to a mindset? Um man, I feel like we definitely set a standard for ourel um when it comes to practice and preparation and stuff and I feel like today uh you know we definitely met that standard. Week by week we’re trying to just improve it. You know every time we going on the field we trying to raise that bar for ourselves. So definitely a mindset we’re all adopting. I mean yeah we can feel it. I mean, when we get movement on the line of scrimmage, when we see, you know, Rico and Chuba and Trevor, you know, getting through them holes, you know, untouched, you know, six, seven yards down the field, you know, it definitely feels good. It’s definitely a good feeling. I feel like it definitely juices up the whole offense and the whole team. I mean, I can definitely see that. I can definitely see that. You know, I just feel anytime we don’t got to walk back to the line of scrimmage anytime we get to chase the ball down the field, it’s going to feel good. It’s going to energize us a little bit. “Andy taught me that” that’s why he blocked so much better when Andy was quarterbacking. Interesting.
Yall needa start blocking cause keep letting Bryce get sacked is crazy
