Mike Mayock on the Keys to Who Wins Broncos vs Chiefs Pivotal Week 11 Showdown | The Rich Eisen Show

the uh Chiefs and the Broncos. Man, this is this is uh this is a pretty big one. Uh obviously the Broncos eight-2, way better than the Chiefs in the record department, but this is the Chiefs coming off a buy with Andy Reid. How do you break this one down for me, Mike? What do you think? I I find um the quarterback situation in Denver intriguing because, you know, Bo Nicks is such a good fit there. Um, and and Shawn gets so much out of his quarterbacks. Um, but I think he’s hit a little bit of a spot where a lot of teams now have a lot of tape on him and and they’re getting more familiar with what Shawn’s trying to do and how they’re trying to do it. Um, so he’s at a point now where he’s got to take care of the football and still be functional and still help them win games, but he’s got to take care of the football. Um, I think I look at Patrick Mahomes in that group and I said this before the season started because um, they had a young left guard and left tackle who were way more athletic than the guys last year in Kansas City and were going to get better. They were going to get their wide out Rashi Rice back after six games from suspension. They were going to get healthier at tailback. A lot of things were going to happen and they just kind of needed to hang in and I thought Patrick Mahomes would help them do that. So, um, it’s probably a little bit more dramatic than I than I expected. It’s taken a little bit longer, but, you know, I I always have my money on Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid, and ultimately, um, the division for me still goes through them even though they’re behind two other teams. Yeah, I know. So, what does it come down to? Uh, the ability to get Mahomes off the spot, although that sometimes doesn’t work out for you. I mean, um, what what does it come down to in this one, do you think? Well, you can’t let them run the ball at all, and they’ve struggled a little bit there, and they’ve had some guys hurt. U, but you can’t let them have that other avenue to give Mahomes a break and some relief where he doesn’t have to be the man every play, right? So, you got to take care of the run game number one. Even though that sounds counterintuitive, you can’t give them any air to breathe. I think Kelsey um you you know he’s not as explosive as he used to be. Um still makes plays um more than anything if you limit their big plays and I’m talking about both uh Patrick scrambling because the thing Patrick does best is scramble with his eyes up and make plays down the field. If you can limit big plays, you can limit their offensive production and and make them go 70, 80, 90 yards every drive without a penalty or uh a turnover and and that’s how you beat them. Yeah. And and and I guess have your own offensive efficiency problems solved on your own with Denver. Yeah. You know, compounded by the fact that if there was a Hall of Fame for defensive coordinators, Spagnolo would be in one. That’s right. Right. So, yeah, they’re not going to beat themselves on defense. They’re going to force you to make plays. They’re going to put a ton of pressure on that quarterback where he’s going to have to make some plays with his legs and his arm. Um, so between Spagnulo, Reed, and Momes, I think that’s a pretty special show. Um, and you can’t make mistakes. You just can’t let you can’t beat yourself. You’ve got to make Kansas City beat you.   4. I agree wity Mayock about many of his points. With that said, he mentioned Spagnuolo and failed to mention that INCREDIBLE defense in Denver. They are lights out! This game is going to come down to whose offense and ST's can play better. That is how I see it as a Denver fan. I will stop short of making a prediction about who will win.

  6. This is a must-win game for the Chiefs….way more at stake for them than for the Bronco’s. The Chiefs most likely way to the playoffs this year would be to win the AFC West and that has to start this weekend if they want to do it.

  8. never mind that Denver has an elite defense……and we play Patrick tough…he is consistently uncomfortable when he plays Denver…especially the last 5 meetings!! Chiefs defense is good….not great.

  11. Bronco offense can't wait until Q4 to wake up. KC defense is scoreboard situational, as they are much better if their opponent is forced to abandon the run game. Denver's wonderful defense can win them the game, but Bronco offense needs to show up the entire game, not just the 4th quarter.

  15. What a stupid segment…he said nothing that everybody doesn't already know 😂😂😂 keep Mahomes in the pocket, Bo nix can't make mistakes and limit explosive playmakers for KC….DUH!!!
