Malaki Starks: ‘Kyle Hamilton Is Just Different’ | Baltimore Ravens

football-wise, what does it mean? Can you give an example when we say, “Oh, the game’s slowing down for him as you see more.” How does that play out for you? What does that mean? Um, just just not out there thinking, you know, like the call comes in, I’m communicating, and I don’t got to think as much about where I’m supposed to be and how I’m supposed to be there. I can just be there and fly around and get to the ball. And so, and that’s what we’re seeing now as far, you know, interceptions each of the last two games, just not having to freak out or worry about, you know, everyone else around you. Yeah, I think uh just really trusting the guys, like I said before, uh that’s around me and trusting myself and um the preparation that I’m doing throughout the week and really just, you know, when I see something, just believe it and go get it. And I think that’s been that’s been the key. Satisfying is that? Is it been like, God, is it going to come? When’s it going to come? It’s been a relief for sure, you know, but it’s it’s all on God’s timing. So, I’ve just been staying course and Marlin mentioned that last week or a couple weeks ago, you you said something to him and Kyle about being vets and how you appreciated that from Yeah. Um, you know, what was the context of that as much as you wanted? Yeah, I mean, I just I just told him I appreciate them, you know, like they’re really good vets, really good guys to learn from, really good guys to have in the room. Uh, not just from a football standpoint, but from a life standpoint as well. So, um, just to have those guys and the way they lead and the way they go about their business, um, I mean, I’m grateful to have them in the room. How has, uh, the success of this defense in recent weeks helped the confidence of the group and does that all kind of snowball in a positive way? Yeah, I think, uh, whenever you have success, it’s always a positive thing, but I think it’s just our mindset, you know, how we want to attack it each week. Um, and I think, you know, every week is a start over. you know, you what you did last week, you can’t carry it over into this week, you know, so it’s really just starting over from square one and, you know, seeing how we can grow better and be better as a defense. Chemistry with Alohi didn’t seem like it’s taken very long. Can you describe that what that process has been like? Yeah, I mean Loi is awesome, man. Uh he’s been in league for a long time and uh he’s another guy in the room that I told him I appreciate. You know, just the the way that he carries himself, the way that he um comes in day in and day out about his business. I mean, it’s a great guy to have in a room and for me to learn from and, you know, we’re our connection is growing. I love him. He’s awesome. Has he added any edge to this defense? Yeah, without a doubt, man. I think I think the way he plays and just who he is, you know, like it’s just it’s who you want a Raven to be. So, it’s it’s awesome just to learn from him, knowing that frees up Kyle the way that it does. Can you I mean, put yourself in his quarterback shoes like trying to figure out what what to do with where you never know where you’re going to be. Yeah, I’d ask for more help. Uh I mean, Kyle is just different, man. like the things that he can do. Um I mean it’s just it’s just different. So it’s your birthday, right? Yeah. Happy birthday. What’s the best gift today? Uh I got to talk to my fiance. Um got to my mom texted me. Uh I got a cookie cake. Uh and that’s it really. I mean just spending time with the guys, you know. It’s just I’m very blessed to be here and I take it I take it very serious. So I’m happy. Happy birthday. Thank you.
