Paul Skenes Wants to Win a Ring with the Pirates. Yankees Fan Rich Eisen Has Doubts. BIG Doubts.
Also from yesterday’s program, I had a little bit of fun with the news on NJ.com. New Jersey Advanced Media Paul Skins has a Yankees dream. Trust me, teammate says and Pirates quote unquote understand it. That’s from the trust me quote from the general manager Ben Sherington of the Pittsburgh Pirates when it was brought to his attention that there was an unnamed teammate of Paul Skins who says Paul has been talking about wanting to play for the New York Yankees. Trust me, he says unknown. Ben Sherman’s like, you know, I don’t I I He’s basically said I’m not going to give it any credence, but I do understand it. Meaning that if Paul is in fact thinking about not being a pirate, it’s because their collective vision of winning together isn’t being realized. I think I’ve done justice to the way it was all set up yesterday. Yeah, but then you took it a little too far. No, I didn’t. You started feeling it a little I didn’t start feeling it, you know. I didn’t start feeling it. Just You were basically saying it was a rat. No, I I I I still feel that way even after him winning the National League Sai Young award, the first player to win a Sai Young award the year after he’s the rookie of the year in his league since Dwight Gooden did it. I was about to say, yeah, only three people have ever done it. Fernando did it in the same year. Rookie of the year Sai Young, right? And then Doc went rookie of the year Sai Young the following year and now Skins who was then made available to the media afterwards and was asked about hey there’s a report in New Jersey that a teammate of yours said you want to be a Yankee. Do you think they said it like that? Hey Paul, uh got a question for you, buddy. No, listen. There’s always this I’m always fascinated by the way people will find out about how they’re being talked about or find out there’s something you’re going to end up having to talk about. You know what I mean? Like who is that person in Philadelphia who told Nick Serriani there’s a guy named Janky Rondo? It was Big Dom. I mean Big Dom. But somebody had to tell Big Dom that too. Yeah. Big Dom Janky. I would definitely pick Big Dom is the guy who did in fact go off Nick and go hey Nick I got you got a minute I got some news you know what I mean like I’m always fascin back in the day who had to tell Tom Coughlin X Y and Z right like you just so somebody had to tell Paul Ske or maybe he looked down at his phone and he’s just like what’s up or maybe Libby told him he was the one who was asked this question do you hey congratulations on being and and and as Sai Young award winner uh after your rookie of the year. Dwight Gooden is the last guy to do it. Pretty impressive. But do you want to be a Yankee or not? I got shown the the tweet and didn’t really think anything of it and then got some texts about it. Um you know, I’m I’m on the Pirates. My goal is to win with the Pirates. I love the city of Pittsburgh. Um the the fans are hungry to have a winner in Pittsburgh and I want to be a part of the group that did that. The way that fans see us outside of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh is not supposed to win. Um, there are 29 fan bases that expect us to lose and I want to be a part of the group. I want to be a part of the 26 guys that change that. So, I don’t I don’t I don’t know where that came from. Um, the goal is to win. Um, and uh, yeah, I don’t know. I don’t know the reporter that reported it. I don’t know the player who uh, who supposedly said that, but um, the goal is to win and the goal is to win in Pittsburgh. Okay, that’s a great answer. I’m going to handle this two ways. Oh jeez. I’m going to handle it the professional way first cuz I’m a I’m a lead course. I’m a lead pipe wielding professional always. Take them as well. A great answer, by the way. Yeah. And by the way, I’m I’m reading this book these days. I’m finding my Okay. Um Interex. Certainly when it comes to Pennsylvania sports. Listen, great answer. And I think that’s why Pirates fans love this guy in addition to what he does on the mound and how he goes about his business and how he’s a Sai Young award winner for them after going, wait for it, a win- loss record of 10 and 10. He only has 21 wins in two years. And so he knows he deserves better. Everyone there knows he deserves better. And they’re worried about at what point will he realize he deserves better than what he’s currently getting. And this guy is basically saying, “I’m your guy. The savior that you think I can be. I want to be for you.” Awesome. Now, let me do it as a Yankee fan. What were they really thinking? No. again. Leave the comedy to me, Mikey. I’m sorry, Rich. I’m here all week. Listen, as a Yankee fan, I must correct him. Paul, it’s not 29 fan bases that think you can’t win. It’s 30. Ask any Pirate fan. You can’t do it there. Come on. Come on. And this is the type of guy I want to have on my team. He wants to be there. He wants to be that guy. That’s exactly the type of guy that Garrick Cole is. Where do he wants to play and have to leave to find his riches and success? Houston. Uh, keep going. Turn the pages back in the book, Chris. All right. UCLA. Nope. Oh, yeah. He was in Pittsburgh. All right. Of course. I forgot. I’ve seen this movie before. It turns out great. Turns out um it’s a it’s also a box office hit. You get the great on the back end. Now, you know, winning at all. It’s been it’s it’s been an issue. It’s been an issue. It’s been an issue, but won’t be when you’re there. And in terms of the other things that you can get, I mean, do we need do we need to connect you with Jeets? That’s the way you can live your life. I don’t know. He’s fine. I think he’s doing all right. He’s got I’m talking about Nike deals. I’m talking about what you were talking about. I talk about Ask Reggie Jackson. Keep going. Everybody when you do it in New York City and those pinstripes that interlocking NY, it’s a totally different ball of wax. Even the Red Sox fan knows it. And even the guy over there, you know it. You know it. I know it. When was the last time you guys won again? I get it. That guy over there knows. They got an interlocking NY there, too. That’s what I know. But it ain’t the same thing. And Skines maybe deep down knows it. I love hearing that. That’s the type of guy I want on my team, too. It ain’t going to happen. Okay. Ain’t going to happen. I’m not going to be there. You know what, Mike? I think I will need your help. I will need your help. You need my help? Uh oh. Cuz no, we’re going to give you a new drop. Uh oh. From now on, whenever we have this conversation, I want the Seinfeld drop where he says he doesn’t want to be a pirate. I don’t want to be a pirate. That’s the drop I want. Can I just interject? One guy is talking about a shirt. Another guy’s talking about maybe his ability to win. You know, all of it’s on national TV. Want to be just don’t want to be a pirate. When we had Jerry here, I think Brockman asked him like some of his favorite lines and I wanted to say that so bad, but I chickenened out. Then the second we went off air, I said it to Jerry and he started rolling and I was like, crap, I missed. Damn it. Damn it. I hit him with like I don’t want to be a Maybe he did want that line to be mentioned in the conversation. He just didn’t think about it. But his favorite line he says is, you know, but you’re a cashier, you know, and uh he was with a girl who says, “I can’t be with somebody whose job I don’t respect.” And he says, “But you’re a cashier.” He also said, “Um, that’s a shame.” Was Oh, well that’s that’s which is what my response would be to you who wants Paul Skins and to you who wants Paul Ske if in fact this dream will be realized one day. I don’t want your dream. But he said the right thing. Martin Luther. He said he he said the right thing that he does in fact love where he is, loves the fans. They love him. I want to be your savior. It’s exactly the thing he should be saying. It’s exactly maybe the way he does feel as well. But the Yankee fan in me wants to I don’t want to be a pirate. There you go. You got it ready. There you go. There you go. You got a new drop. I just see the I see the I see the the headlines. It’s such a shame, too. I hate this team. No, no, no. I still do. It’s such a shame that the stadium is gorgeous and the fans really love winner, but the management that stadium 196 RA this year. It’s a great place. It’s a shame. A welldeserved unanimous selection for Sai Young. Hey, you made it all the way to the end. Thanks for that. Never happening
Slow news day, Rich?
5:30 Hilarious that rich said this because I was thinking the same thing as a pirates fan
By 2027 he will be a Yankee or a Dodger. The writing has always been on the WALL.
I have a better chance of mounting Taylor Swift than the Pirates winning the World Series.
Any team losing in 2025 MLB playoffs would win if they have Skenes. He is a difference maker for any competitive team that has him. He’s worth the highest pitcher contract NOW.
I thought you normally have to hold up a current newspaper in hostage videos…
No shot.
It's a shame there are only two baseball teams in the league. Maybe we should just eliminate all the other teams and let the Yankees and Dodgers play each other 162 tines each season.
Dodgers sign Paul they finally spend money need a second ace to pair with Yamamoto ⚾⚾⚾
0 real Pirate fans will blaim Skenes when he gets traded. In fact many of us will still probably be happy when he has success elsewhere
he's gona be the next Mike Trout. Mike Trout 2.0
Free Paul Skenes!
Dodgers can unload their entire farm system for Skenes including some young major league talent.
Calling yourself a led pipe wielding professional after spewing fake bullshit about Skenes going to the Yankees is truly laughable
Nothing against the Pirates.
In fact, as a Phillies fan with lots of friends who root for this team, I really want to see both teams be good at the same time.
I want Paul Skenes to compete for a ring.
But it ain't gonna happen.
If the Pirates were serious about building a winning roster around him, they'd at the very least have some direction.
They don't.
Paul Skenes will get traded for peanuts and whatever team gets him will dominate the next decade.
This is like listening to elon musk daydreaming about winning the lottery
6:56 Rich, sit down man. 😂 Aaron Judge stays choking, and yet you expect players to flock to that expensive dumpster fire? 😂
"I don't know where that came from" isn't a denial. He never said it wasn't true, he just said what everyone who is a part of a team has to say, "I want to be here. I want to win here." Except nobody thinks for a second that he thinks he can win there. He may not have confirmed anything, maybe he doesn't want to be traded or be a Yankee… but that wasn't a denial at all. That was damage control.
Better pray for new ownership… as a person who was a pirate fan up until a few years ago (I live here) I wish him the best and honestly hope he gets tf out and makes that money cuz this franchise isn't it and he's wasting his career here. Don't stay bro, move on… ownership won't spend money, you'll never have the bat or team you'll need to even have a winning season. Get out man, get out.
Im a Yankee fan and…I think the Pirates might have a shot to win a chip before the Yankees do. With Boone as a manager and this brain dead FO? Good luck with that.
(Sarcasm… kinda).
That being said, It was a great answer, BUT… he never denied saying that.
Until his contract is up. Then like everyone else he’s outta there.
The sad part is, it shouldn’t be a dream. One of the great franchises in history. I watched Stargell, Sanguillen, Parker, Oliver, Madlock, Bonds & Bonilla. Exciting moments and that city is electric when the Pirates are winning🏴☠️
As a pirates fan, the only reason why we don't think we can win anything is because of ownership. Pirate fans need to start rebelling against ownership and force MLB to force the ownership of the pirates to sell. If I was these pirate players, I would force a work stoppage until owner sells. The fans of the Pittsburgh pirates and the City of Pittsburgh deserve better. I think Paul skins can be the driving force to force the ownership to sell. If the pirates don't change their ways and actually open the checkbook and start spending money on actual names and not some dead dogs. Nothing's going to change until the MLB forces the ownership to sell
Skenes might but the owners don't. Look for Skenes to be traded, just like every other good player they refuse to pay
MLB is a sham. Until the salary cap is actually a cap every good player in places like Cincinnati or Pittsburgh is going to end up in New York or LA or Philly or Houston… It makes it difficult to be a long-time fan anywhere else.
It’s always fair play when players dictate where owners should send them which could effect what return a team could get.
A ring with Pittsburgh? The entire team salary is less than Ohtani. You can't compete with that. Pittsburgh is nothing but a minor league franchise that loses all its players. Same with Cincy, Milwaukee, KC, Cleveland, Twins, Miami, TB, Athletics, Colorado. All these teams are just the minor leagues for the Dodgers.
Please… Let this happen .. 🙏🏽😭
I can’t wait for MLB to have a lockout. Hope it lasts for multiple years
I still maintain this teammate is personal and not professional. Which makes this an actual story.
As a life long Pirates fan I understand that the Pirates are just another farm team for the big money teams. MLB is broken Anda metaphor for American society in general.
We are gonna have a shutdown in 27 Yankees should just go all out
Hey Chris when was the last time the Red Sox won?
He is so lying saying that fro cameras because someone leaked he wanted to be a Yankee
Pirates fan here and yes the owner is terrible but these rumors do nothing to help the situation in MLB. You don't hear about players in the NFL talking about wanting to play for another team while they are still under contract. Props to TJ for calling you oyr Rich. You should be advocating for a better system in baseball that includes a cap and a floor
Said mccutchen, said cole, said bonds, etc etc
Legitimately impossible with their current farm system and team. Many players probably shouldn't even be employed in MLB and are in the wrong profession
Fan of all things Pittsburgh, and I appreciate Skenes words and mindset. BUT the ownership in Pittsburgh has shown year after year they aren't interested in winning championships or pennants. They are a farm club for the Yankees. It's extremely depressing and frustrating for us Pirates fans, but after 3+ decades of abject failure we have become numb to it.
The Pirates are the laughingstocks of baseball next to the Rockies, Angels, Marlins, and White Sox.
