Interesting interview from Sportsnet.

Sportsnet: Another guy who was out first on every PK last season, centre Pius Suter, left in free agency for just a two-year contract in St. Louis at $4.125 million per. Do you regret not keeping him?

Rutherford: I was going to mention him earlier. He was a guy that we thought we were still in on when he went to St Louis. And I know he wanted to come back here. There seemed to be some miscommunication on term (based on) what it eventually ended up. We would have considered bringing him back (for longer than two years), but it didn't work out.

  1. This is Rutherford’s version of “ran out of time.”

I’m done with these assholes. Fire them.

We have a hyper-injury-prone goalie, who’s maybe going to play 30-40 games this season, and his new 8.5 AAV contract hasn’t even kicked in yet.

They went out and got hyper-injury-prone Chytil.

They couldn’t do anything about the Miller Petey situation… and let’s not forget that started with management tasking Miller to “toughen Petey up.”

The team is 28th in the league.

    We don’t have a 1st line.

I could go on and on.

  2. Absolute fucking trash. How do you miscommunicate ANYTHING at that level. It’s your FUCKING JOB. Fuck this team.

  3. Petition to ban hiring any president or GM with the first name “Jim”. Because they’re fucking cursed

  4. This organization consistently
“miscommunicates” everything and anything regardless of who management is. Geez I wonder why. I won’t be watching or following the games anymore until actual significant change happens. Give the fans something to look forward to for once. Enough is enough!

  5. I heard Rutherford and co. run a tight ship. The ship:

    ![gif](giphy|OJw4CDbtu0jde)

  6. This team is getting close or if not the same level of the Washington chiefs (when Snyder owned them) or Dallas cowboys.

  7. Makes sense from Suter’s stand point.

    What would you do?

Go back to the team that could have signed you the entire time you were playing there, is now dragging their feet in free agency, has no practice facility, and feels mismanaged?

Or choose the team that is extremely excited to have you join.

Yeah, I know what you’re picking.

  8. This article is a nightmare for Canucks fans

“Spoiler alert: Rutherford believes he has the authority to conduct a rebuild, but has no plans for one. And that’s whether Quinn Hughes stays or not.

“A rebuild is not something that we’re going to look at doing,” Rutherford told Sportsnet. “Like I said, we’re in transition. But we’re not trading all these players for draft picks that may or may not end up playing someday.”

This quote is a helluva lot worse. Even without Hughes they aren’t rebuilding, it’s full steam ahead on win now pieces, I’m so tired of this clown show franchise.

  9. This isn’t the first time this regime “miscommunicated” with players, agents, media, fans and whatnot. JR is getting too old for this gig and PA speaks faster than he thinks.

No wonder the team is sinking with such an inept front office… and I sense the strong feeling of déjà vu.

  10. I have no faith in anyone anymore. What the hell is even happening. They’ve utterly ruined this team and hedged some sketchy ass bets. Mired in mediocrity and I’m sick of it. SELL. THE. TEAM.

  11. I don’t understand this.

Before July 1, people were talking about 4.5 – 5 million with term for Suter.

He ends up signing for 4.125 over two years on July 3, three days into free agency, and our management didn’t have time to get clarity with his agent?

  12. Aquilini didn’t sign off on it in time.

    Like everyone else that walked.

    This franchise is a joke!

    Run Quinn. Run!

  13. It’s funny this article posted with probably the smallest, most irrelevant tid bit lol. We’re worried about Pius Suter? This team needs stars.

The big thing in this article is JR outright saying “NO” to a rebuild, but then mentioning “transition” again. Mentions picking in the lottery and talks about being one of the youngest teams, continuing to build with youth and players in their 20s.

This team won’t full on rebuild but I really hope they sell off guys like Sherwood, Blueger and Kane at the TDL. There’s a high chance we get absolutely smoked these next 4 games and we have to talk sell-off right after. A top 3 pick this year and a top 10 next year puts this team into proper position to build towards a contender. Literally just 2 years and the pipeline + present will mesh PERFECTLY.

  14. My dudes, I’m a lifelong Canucks fan but this ownership /management and this particular team might be my breaking point. Not only do they not win, they are not fun to watch. I’m becoming so disinterested. I find out the score the next day or I don’t at all. ( from Vic but live in Toronto) Never going to chear for the Leafs, maybe become a Krackhead? Thinking about it.

  15. I don’t think new management will change anything until there is new ownership that will allow what’s necessary (rebuild when Quinn says he’s leaving).

  16. This isn’t even the worst quote.

Rutherford mentions that there will be no rebuild, even if Hughes is traded. That under no circumstances they will rebuild…

He’s actively setting expectations of a Hughes trade to involve present pieces instead of futures. To me, that’s a fireable quote and leaves little hope they’ll do the right thing in a Hughes trade.

Except that’s why Rutherford is president, because ownership will never want to do a proper rebuild…

    Incredibly depressing.

  17. At this point Hughes staying will be a pleasant surprise to me. Won’t blame the guy one bit.

  18. I don’t see how they put together another roster like 23/24 any time soon. They’ve been betting on “projects” to work here like Sprong, Desharnais, Brannstrom, Chytil, Kane and Reichel while “running out of time” for good players like Suter, Cole, Zadorov, Podkolzin, Silovs etc.

  19. YOU COULD HAVE SIGNED HIM IN FEBRUARY BUT YOU PRIO’D DOC.

This management group is just as incompetent as Benning was just in different ways but many of the same.

  20. Man I’m so close to just being done with hockey.

What a depressing shit show this organization is.
