I've been a lifelong Flames fan since being born into a Flames family in 2004. Unfortunately I just missed potentially the best year to be a fan of Calgary since '89 by not being old enough to walk and talk during the cup run. This team has brought me so many memories and I could never cheer for another team in the NHL but since just missing the playoffs last year (that team deserved much better) it has been frustrating being a fan of the Flames.

Despite being firmly last in the league ownership won't listen to the fans. Shed vets, play kids, become a franchise dedicated to building something meaningful instead of tire spinning. I decided that i'd bring the BagHead to Calgary despite it being early in the season.

While I was thrilled to see a win (although my beer league team probably could've put up a fight the way the sharks played) the vibe I got from other fans in the rink could not be more telling. High fives, hugs, fistbumps, photo requests, and tons of compliments and laughs walking through the concourse and sitting in the 200s. Even Eric Francis nearly fell out of his chair laughing when I walked by the broadcast desk.

Fans are frustrated and hopefully soon ownership will commit to a quick rebuild with a couple stacked drafts on the horizon. I will never give up being a Flames fan and it was worn out of hope for a dark present and a bright future for a team I will only want the best for for the rest of my life.

Go Flames Go!

  1. Ownership will never outright say were in a rebuild, look at the actions tho. Were last in the league. Mission accomplished so far. I think the bag is dumb. sorry

  2. The idea of wearing a bag on your head is so nobody you know associates you with the team while the suck it seems you just did this as a stunt for Reddit Karma. Kinda sad TBH
