“We Pushed Back” | Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen After Loss To Colorado Avalanche | Buffalo Sabres

I know you’ve been around long enough you’re ready if that happens where you know you got to get thrown in right away. I know you’ve done it before. You’ve done it many times before and you know how to do it right. Yeah, it’s part of the job. That’s that’s why there’s a backup goalie. You know we didn’t as a team we didn’t start good enough and um you know that’s kind of way to wake the team up. So uh part of the job and you have to be ready for it. How did you feel the game went for you overall? It was good. um you know uh kind of second goal uh you know not happy about it but uh other than that I think it was good game uh as you said it’s not always easy kind of jump in on that but I felt like um I got the game you know flowing right away and you know felt good playing today was the killer the one that hit on one stick was almost like a ramp hit and ramped right up over your shoulder. Yeah. Yeah. It’s it’s it’s tough to read those cuz you don’t you have a read on the guy where he’s shooting it and then it goes kind of somewhere completely different. Uh and that’s the you know unlucky lucky bounce for them. I don’t know. But uh of course you want to make a second there. So um uh yeah I know it was a better game for the team but I also know you guys aren’t looking for moral victories. You’re looking for two points and that’s the bottom line. Yeah. I mean, we kind of almost kill ourselves on these games, you know. We kind of do certain things to let the let the kind of game go away from our hands and then we start to chase it. After that, we kind of, you know, we let it go and then we start to play as as well as we can, but it’s it’s usually too late after that. So, you know, we play every night you play against good team and every every team kind of is good at shutting it down when you when you lose the lead. So, um, we we’re not making it easy for ourselves right now. You’re able to get their game even, you know. Does that give you guys confidence at some point that you can play with a team like this? No, 100%. Uh, as I said, you know, I don’t think we didn’t start good, but it wasn’t as bad of a game as it kind of looked from the start. And, uh, you know, we pushed back. We um, you know, after that, we kind of played a good game. So, um, yeah, that’s kind of the positive about it.

Buffalo Sabres goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen spoke to the media following a 6-3 loss to the Colorado Avalanche on November 13, 2025. Luukkonen came in to the game for Alex Lyon who started the game, and talked about how he felt and how he stayed ready to play. He discussed what he felt went wrong in the game and how it is facing a team like Colorado.
