Aaron Glenn Press Conference (11/10) | New York Jets
All right, good morning. Um, coming off uh going into a short week, uh, when it comes to our injuries, the two guys that I talked about yesterday after the game, uh, Garrett, uh, still evaluating him, seeing exactly how how he’s going to come out this week to see if he’ll be a part of practice. Um, AZ will be out. He’s in the he’s in the concussion protocol, so um, he’ll be out this week. Other than that, I think that we came out um pretty well with everybody else. Um when it comes to the game, again, tough, hardfought game. Uh special teams did a hell of a job of making plays, but there was some underlying things that that really didn’t show up on the stat sheet, just the just how well our guys um played in the other phases when it comes to uh uh special teams as far as coverage um and things like that. And the way our punter uh punted the heck out the ball in his net putting. So, those things collectively as a group, uh, special teams did a hell of a job. Uh, obviously on offense, there’s some things that we got to clean up, but I thought our guys were gritty, uh, tough, uh, ran the ball well against a team that that doesn’t allow teams to run the ball on them. So, I thought that was, uh, it was really good by O line running backs and our receivers blocking when it comes to our defense. I thought our guys stepped up and made the plays when they need to make them. Um, obviously, man, the sacks was outstanding and and the way the guys rushed together as a unit. um really showed up uh in the game and I thought our coverage was uh was good for the most part. There were some things that we got to clean up in that aspect also. Uh we had one busted coverage when it came to the red zone. Um but we’ll get that cleaned up um with communication with all the guys. So, um other than that, oh, I would say this. Please don’t ask me anything about the quarterback cuz you know, I’m not going to tell you and I don’t want I don’t want to waste my time when it comes to that when it comes to who’s uh who’s starting. So, um any other questions? U on Garrett. Erin, uh is that mean some imaging he’s going to get uh on his knee today when you Yes. Yes. We go through that whole process as far as imaging. Um get them checked out by the docks before we uh really stamp like what the issue is. So, um again, hopefully he’ll be good to be able to play this week, but I don’t want to stamp that just yet. Aaron, after he was on the bike. He was on the bike uh during the game. Was that is that a case where, you know, there was a chance that, you know, it’s not anything serious that he was just kind of working through it. I mean, again, I want to say exactly what the docs say before I stamp anything as far as uh that, but you know, usually when you have that situation, adrenaline’s going during the game. Um, but after the game, everything kind of slows down. And again, I want to see what the docs say. Aaron, after watching the tape, uh, how would you evaluate the way Justin played yesterday? You know what? Collectively, um, as an offense, I think we did some good things. Uh, the thing is, when you get two returns like that on special teams, the offense doesn’t have a good amount of plays. Um, especially in the passing game, we only threw 11 pass. I think he was six of 11. Um, obviously, there’s some things that we got to clean up there. Uh, but there also some good things that he did. I know he threw the one pick. I would say this, I was happy that he tried to force the ball, get the ball downfield in that situation. I thought Cleveland did a hell of a job in that coverage. They they ran this inverted two where the safety was end up being a middle runner. Um, and I thought they did a good job with that. Aaron, I’m not going to ask you specifically about who’s starting obviously because you don’t want us to do that. But I am curious, is this like a week by week, dayby day thing for you? Because it is unusual. Um, you know, having led you guys for help to get to two wins in a row, is that it’s just a constant evaluation, I guess, is what I’m asking. Well, I keep telling you guys between the players and myself, we know exactly who’s going to be the quarterback. I mean, I just don’t have to tell you guys that. I understand that, but I mean, what goes into that is what I’m asking. They practice. Really? Yeah. On the interception that you just referenced. Yeah. You said you like do you like to see would you like to see more of that aggressiveness this year from him? I mean even if sometimes it does you know there is some riskreward involved but would you like to see more push even more that field? Well, you know what? That’s something that Justin even said. Um, I even said that, man. It it’s it’s a uh being controlled but being aggressive. And I thought that was one of the uh times where, man, he saw Garrett coming on the deep dig, Rob. But again, the safety did a really good job of showing uh middle close like it was cover three, but he end up being the insert player in that situation. Um, and I thought he went to go try to make a play, you know. So, absolutely, you want to be aggressive, but you also don’t want to be reckless. I think he’s said that several times. Hey G, what did you think about the play? Your offensive line yesterday and also we were encouraged by the fourth quarter where Cleveland knew you guys would try to run the ball and you were able to get it done. Yeah, it was um it it listen I was really excited about that cuz when you look at what Cleveland was doing, they ran a a ton of cover zero to where they had no middlefield safety. Everybody was in the box and may you give credit to the O line by um by really getting knocked back and allowing Bree not to be touched for three yards and when he did get tackle he actually failed for two so that was a 5 yard game but I’ll also say man Bree did a hell of a job of um of making something out of nothing for the most part cuz when you play cover zero that could be an unblock players and Bree did a hell of a job making one guy miss and actually getting the crease and making plays. So, it was a combination between the O line making their blocks in certain situation and then Breeze man being um being Superman and making some of those plays. So, um I I was excited about that and happy about the way they did that cuz I could see that happening, you know, with with with other teams. Obviously, Denver did the same thing. Um we weren’t as effective, but to be able to come back and um and be able to do that this game, I thought was I thought was important for us to show that. Erin, Erin, obviously you got the win, but how sustainable is it when your quarterback has only 12 yards passing going into the fourth quarter, and I think he only completed two passes that went past the line of scrimmage all day. Yeah. Well, again, he only threw 11 passes. And here here’s what I tell the coaches and players. Um, as coaches, man, we coach to win the game. As players, you play to win the game, however that may be. And sometimes it’s not pretty for fantasy uh players. sometimes not pretty for the media. Only thing that matters is how we do it and and the W is all that matters. So, um it’s a by any means necessary type of of type of league and you know, my plan is continue to coach to win the game, you know, however that may be. And um and we’re going to continue to do that. Does there become a concern, Aaron, that teams don’t respect your your passing game at all? And say that one more time. I mean, is there a concern about teams not respecting your your passing game and stacking it even more? I mean, you just referenced Breeze, how we did a lot of Superman type things that Absolutely. Absolutely. And that’s when we got to make teams pay. And again, we only had 11 shots of it yesterday. Um, you know, I think the more we get chances like that, I think we will make them pay because when you got a guy like Garrett, um, and the other receivers that we have, uh, that’s going to make an impact for us. AD, Mitch, um, Aaron, all those guys, I think those guys have the capabilities going in one-on-one. I mean, we know how, uh, how Garrett is as a player. So, um, I don’t know if that’s sustainable even for defense to come out there and just play cover zero all the time cuz you can get burned like that. So, um, listen, we welcome the challenge. Um, obviously we uh we ran the ball, you know, well against cover zero and I think if we do get that in the passing game, we’ll be end up making some plays. You just you just mentioned you just mentioned AD. Yeah. Was he just not ready? Was he just not ready to go um this week? Yeah. Yeah. We want to make sure that that he was confident just as well as we were confident of of not putting him in a position to um just go out there and just, you know, make a mistake. So, um I think with another week of learning our our um um our playbook, man, he’ll be just fine. Hey, G, you got a lot of sh you got a lot of shuffling pieces in the secondary right now. Um how did the guys respond yesterday? And you talked about Malachi stepping up as far as that leadership and and the communication uh role and then also what’s it going to look like on the outside moving ahead without his Well, that’s the um I mean when you play with a uh with a certain brand um I think it overcomes injuries and adversity and no matter who steps in the spot, they know exactly how we play, you know. So Brownley came in, end up playing corner for us. Uh Malachi ended up moving down to the nickel. um IIO end up playing the safety for us. Even Dean, you know, a guy we uh that’s been on our practice squad that that we signed recently came in and had a chance to play and we had our dime packages. So, um listen, I I make no excuses when it comes to injuries and things like that because I just focus on our brand to play and everybody understand exactly how we do that and um expect to go out there and play at a high level. Can you talk about you’re facing obviously a very red-hot team right now? A team that a year ago was down on its luck and and turned it around. Can you talk about how they did that and how it shows maybe in this league that you know one year doesn’t necessarily run into the next how things can be flipped? Yeah, that’s um um that’s a really good point because I think they went into the off season and I mean they went and and got a lot of guys that’s um that can help them uh be successful. Um obviously Williams the deep the deep tackle that was uh in Philly when they got Colton Gra that I’m very familiar with. Um and they bought a lot of those guys. I mean M. Holland, this is a guy that I just started looking at today. the toughness he bring at the receiver spot and his ability to make these big plays and man the quarterback is playing at a very very high level you know so and I think they’re creating more explosive plays than any team in the league this year so you have a combination of that and I think Vel has done a really good job of getting that team to buy into what he’s trying to do. So um absolutely you you can you can make a um a huge change within a year and I think he’s done a good job of that along with the players that he’s gotten. Thank you everyone. Appreciate you coming. All right.

Upset on Thursday
Coach no way, the offense sucks. Fields sucks Coach🗽✈️✈️✈️
One day we will have an actual Qb. One day.
These reporters ask the same questions week in and week out. I can’t imagine being Glenn having to deal with these people
Can Eric Allen stop asking softball questions… Let the reporters do their job AE, and let the coach do his job answering the tougher questions fans want answered. A fan since 1969…
Softball hypocrisy… Eric Allen is an employee of the New York Jets, where he serves as the Vice President, News Strategy. He manages the Jets' reporting and broadcasting teams
When AG got this gig I knew the press conferences would be classics. He hasn't disappointed. I knew at some point he would blow a head gasket and flame broil the reporters,! Lol
No questions about the QB, means Justin starts again.
4:23 🤣
Hot take:Wilson won’t be available on Thursday and Metchie/Mitchell show out with Fields having a Bengals-like game all over again
Greatest organization in NFL history with the greatest HC and GM decided to sign the HOF JF and let lame a$$ AR go. Utter dysfunction. You all think they will build a team through draft? Fcking crazy, that's all you guys are. You guys thought Steelers are idiots for letting him walk. Told you guys a million times he is nothing more than an overpaid FB. You forgot to mention that the offensively bad Browns ran for over 150 yards (season high) because how bad the run defense was in absence of Q. How many butt holes will you plug with those 4 draft picks? I would say maybe 1/4 will work out. Talk to me after 3 seasons when picking in the top 5 with another HC/GM. #FckWoody
Justin Fields is a joke. He's holding the whole team back.
Let win Thursday that would be awesome
Glenn not naming the QB has led us to 2 wins. I'm not superstitious but I am a little stitious so keep it up!
It's time to WIN Division games…..
EA always trys to bring the positivity but why is he the only one capable of thoughtful questions? ✈️
In Glenn we trust!
If we win Thu. Thatll be 3 in a row and make me think that finally things are showing progress and thats a positive thing.
Tear up McNamara's contact and extend him today!!
AD should have been out there! He could have list 12 yards on an end around as well as metchie!
I just dont understand why Fields' is playing so poorly. Why cant we get the JF that played against the steelers and bengals consistently? Can we get 65% of that guy? I dont understand it. He was much more productive when he was in chicago and on the steelers last year and he has the best O-Line that hes played with. Is it the playcalling? Has he really regressed that much? Somethings off with the preparation and it needs to be fixed. he used to rip balls down the field, i dont see any of that this year outside of the big throw to G5 week 1.
Aaron knows Justin sucks he gonna die on the podium with him it’s clear
NY MEDIA IS TRASH!!!!!!!! NYJ you guys should handle this issue😂. Just a bunch of clowns. Worst in the league. 🤣
Let's get the upset. Please start, Tyrod. Justin just mentally looks like a deer in the headlights. I also want to keep it positives no negative intent but dang….Going against that Pats offense, they need to be able to counter.
Shout out to the Jets OC , man that guy was calling run plays and that screen play to beat the browns in a critical situation to get Breece Hall the ball.
Huh?!🤔 Hmmmm… G5 take another week and get healthy. Adonai and JM … Hope you’re ready to block … a lot.
I am lions fan, i am rootting for aaron glenn. I like how he shut down immediately the quarterback question.
I dont understand why he gets so upset about being asked whose the qb next week. But anyways, 2 game winning streak go jets
Forget the "W" Thursday night, Jets haven't any QB that can throw worth a shit.🤣😂
Start Cook
When will the owners figure it out you don't hire losers like this coach and QB Fields
