The reality is that nobody knows how the league and players association will come out after next season…but we do know a major fact…both players and owners will want to get paid off of their league. In the end that only works if they actually have a league.
It’s not the Pirates or A’s situation…because Papa Pete was an owner who actually built it up to the point that fans are still selling out the stadium because of his dream (and more importantly his investment in that dream.)
I’ll say it again…anybody who buys and is willing to help fulfill that dream of his…please come on down. The Padres (aren’t perfect like every other team…they have a mix of aging contracts with some really good young contracts) but they have to be one of the most exciting sports team that will be going up for sale in the most recent decades…but is there anybody who adamantly disagrees and believes a new owner might actually be willing to give up the Sea of San Diegans:)?

San Diego has always had a passionate and loyal fanbase. As someone who grew up right by the Murph and has moved around the country a bit these last few years and seen other cities’ sports scenes, SD is still pretty special and the Padres have really became a nationally recognizable brand. I’m currently living in NYC, and its pretty incredible to see a significant Padres fanbase in this huge market thats usually dominated by the Yankees/Mets. Anecdotally, its not an uncommon sight to see people rocking Padres gear out here in Manhattan.
As far the team selling, between the expiring CBA and the Padres financial situation I could easily see this sale process dragging out and not getting done until the new CBA is put together. A lot of significant things like a universal MLB TV/media deal and salary cap/floor could really impact the value of this team. A universal TV deal in particular would really boost the valuation of all team across the sport, just look at the NFL and NBA franchises and see how much they’re worth. The other big factor that doesn’t get discussed as much is where do the other non-Seidler owners stand with regard to the sale. A sale shouldn’t be a forgone conclusion as teams like the Angels were recently for sale but then taken off the market.
You like to use ellipsis more than any person I’ve ever seen post.
What if they did like Green Bay does and have the people own it? Might get some money to the homeless like Pete would have wanted.
