NHL Highlights | Islanders vs. Mammoth – November 14, 2025
Friday night, the barn will be packed and we’re excited to get this one underway as the puck is controlled by the Utah Mam should point out tonight out of the lineup. Alexander Kerput, Shawn Dery, and Uso Valamaki, Kevin Rooney reassigned to Tucson. Scott Mayfield, Kyle Mlan, and Max Shabbanov not going tonight for New York. Dylan Gunther take it. He shoots. He hit the pipe. Dylan Gunther coming close and Anthony Duclair will bring it back for New York as they get it inside the zone. Early turnover from the Islanders almost gets Delta Center into an early frenzy here. Yeah, that would have been a good way to kick off the weekend as this one will be played back in. Carone turns and a shot steered away by Reick. where they left off here just coming in waves and so early on Utah and it seems like they’re carrying it over from Wednesday night’s victory. Keller shoots stop again, Riddick. And to me, it brought to mind the story of the hammer and the stone. And what I mean by that is, and now you got momentum coming in as this one will be dumped right back in. Ian Cole tried to chip it along. Got helped along by Stenland. And it’s in front of Carella who covers up. Oh, Utah starting this game playing very fast. Comes back out high. Zergachev with a shot and a cover by Riddick in the crease. And Utah’s done a good job of shot averages per game as this one right to the front. Owen, that time Rick had to be sharp again. And just like you said, Patty, not just getting the shots through, but having forwards at the net. That’s the next part of it. The shots don’t matter much if you don’t have traffic. Spun around by D Simone. Tanm’s got it. He’ll drop it. Yamamoto. And now here comes Stenland. drops it. Cole wrist that bounces in front. Chaos in front of the Islanders crease. Great connections between those guys and growing up in the province of Quebec. Andre was a Nordique fan and they score. And the Islanders take advantage one- nothing. opportunistic from the Islanders here. But here they go. Faceoff win. And one thing that the Islanders do really well is they get to the net front. And here is just a swat at a loose puck that fools Carell Vla. It’s Emil Heinman who had a goal last night in Vegas. And it’s just a desperation play. Turn around. Good ozone time, but a good sequence here for Utah. That’s a smart play from Clayton Keller. Across again. Keller to the front. Oh, they catches the rebound. They score. That’s in. It starts and we’re tied at one. Red hot kick. But that puck has to completely cross the goal line. You got to see white ice between the goal line and the puck. From that angle we saw there. Doesn’t look like it’s a goal. looked like initially the official on the ice thought it looked like it hit that back bar, the white bar. Upon review, it’s been determined. The puck never cross the goal line. Therefore, we have no goal. And Romanov will set it. He looks to get it out. Holstrom. There’s the gap that we were talking about, right? Perfect play. Marino across. Krauss. Cross to the front. They score. KJ and JJ died all night in the neutral zone. Defense stay up. Utah gets the puck back and then this connection which was formed at the beginning of the third period last game stays hot as Klouse delivers a beauty to Purka. Two passes completely from one side all the way to the other. So difficult for Dylan Gunther. Gunther’s got to get over to that one time spot. Look for this setup here. Gumper shoots. He scores the rim. Dylan Gunther. No doubt about that one. Dylan Gunther just calmly walks over to his spot and then unleashes the fury as Utah’s power play which has not been able to buy a goal. Craig Bowler, Jack, Big T, Thorough Bailey. I I love watching them. I’m not I’m not just saying that to be nice. They are terrific. The Bulls are in town on Sunday. Opening 20. Taken away. Simon Holstrom the other way for New York. Barcel trying to wrap around. It comes in front. Denied. JJ Purko will pick it up against the youngster Schaer. Now Purka to the front. shot. stopped Riddick. Logan Kulie with a great look and Peter delivers a beautiful pass. 55 back then. So would want to see that. D’Angelo with a shot to the front covered by Mamela. Will get a face off. And no, I didn’t call a couple for Carl Vanela. This an area of importance in tonight’s game. Islanders second in the league in rebound chances as they have net traffic all kinds of bodies around there trying to pounce. That’s going to be a real key as Utah tries to protect the lead is to the three hardest shots this season. His shots backhander to the front and Kulie is denied and he’s flying right now. And another chance as he dips he doodles through the Islanders defense. And if you look at the third period on Wednesday, it’s the perfect example. Line after line, wave after wave. They committed to getting the puck deep. Keep forcing their top players to defend. Comes out high. Sergeev has it. goes to the front. Shot off the pipe. Now Sergachev. Koulie’s got room. Let’s see if he takes it across. Keller in a one-time shot and a save. Rick sharp there. Right on the tape of Clayton Keller. He sure does. That one was 87 m an hour. Brought back in Hayden. Hayden to the front. A shot. Oh, a stop. Nate Sch Smith all the way down to the front. What were we saying about his shot? It’s pretty good. Holstromman now right back. Holstrom denied by Mona. been a theme of ours here tonight. Barcel brings it back in. Islanders are going to have a say in that however as Barcel behind the net coming late. D’Angelo with a shot right there and they score. We’ll have to look at this. That looked to me like a kick Matt and you see the official summoning over the other official his right foot and he he clearly kicked this towards the net if you ask me. The goal on the he is the goal was kicked in. Therefore, we have no goal. Yeah. Yeah. All he needed was a T. Yeah. Well, the uh I know you guys are what is it? Liverpool, Nick. Is that your favorite team? That’s trying to get it in behind the net. Pull will take it away and Barcel the other way back to center. Crowd into it again. Schaer shoots, stop, rebound, sent it over the top and wide. And then Schaefer the rookie waltzes all the way up the ice. And good recognition, sorry, from Schmaltz there defensively. Matthew Barczelle played right back in. And that’s going to do it. We are headed to overtime. And why not off circuit seven Gunther as well. Bo Horvat for the Islanders. Matthew Shaver the youngster and Emil Heinaman one of the goal scorers tonight for New York. Barcel’s got the puck. Barcel holding on to it. Schaefer. Barcel. Matthew Barcel. He’s going to get a look for Schaefer. Scores. Matthew Schaefer. And the Islanders win it in overtime. Oh, what a start for this kid. And it’s just the Islanders running crosses trying to confuse the Mammoth defense and keep an eye on Schaefer just calmly walks into a shooting spot and delivers a laser over the pad of Vla. And Schaefer 26 minutes just last night. and follows it up with a heck of an effort in a backto back and a winning goal. The rookie making it happen.
Rookie defenceman Matthew Schaefer scored his first career overtime winner to lift the New York Islanders to a 3-2 win over the Utah Mammoth.

Man, what a day of NHL hockey. Four games and all four go past regulation; doesn’t get much better than that
Zeroth comment!
Utah hockey club
Another reason why the Isles are going to be cup contenders this year! Great on em! LGI!!
Schaefer will one day raise a Stanley Cup in an Islanders jersey. You heard it here first. He's a generational player, the franchise is now being built around him. He's an incredible player and only getting started.
New York islanders are so happy they got number 1 overall pick in 2025 draft already a 🌟 out the gate. Matthew Schaefer is a name to remember 😊
Hell of a win. Tying goal by Drouin was called no goal by officials but it still counted? Must’ve missed something…I assume it’s because it hit a Utah stick before it crossed the line?
Молодцы🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Did Mammoth just forget how to play hockey in November
Does not show NYI second goal (2-2), showed disallowed goal instead.
Another one!
loser point is killing this game…..
I❤NYI
We'll never know the story of the hammer and the stone, or why it was pedantically inserted into color-commentary.
Empty seats everywhere
Sportsnet is terrible. At least show the disallowed goals and reviews… can't even show penalties.
JJ 🎉🎉🇩🇪🔝🇩🇪🔝🏒
How the hell was NYI's 2nd goal allowed? Absolute travesty
The OT are the common thing this year !!
Well done Isles 🧡💙
