Arizona Cardinals name Jacboy Brissett starting QB over injured Kyler Murray vs. Seattle Seahawks

Adam Shfter has provided a little bit more of a fleshing out and some more detail on this. According to sources, Kyler Murray and the Cardinals have consulted with multiple doctors on his foot injury and have been told the timets for recovery have been anywhere from 4 to 8 weeks with an increased chance of setback until it’s properly healed. Murray now has more time to heal. Close quote. So, okay, I spoke with somebody um just now said he they said to me, Kyler is hurt. It’s bad enough where he can’t yet play. So that could be the big decision, too. So speaking with people in the on the Kyler side of things, he’s he’s hurt heard bad enough where he can’t play. So that would go into that timeline. It’s just interesting because this time a week ago, it was kind of trending towards this idea of right like he was he was going to be playing. Adam Shfter said as much. But that is the latest when it comes to Adam Shfter. The phone is ringing right now. So let’s play the open. Let’s talk to Jonathan Ganon. Your home for everything Cardinal. Cardinals Arizona sports the local sports leader. This is in the red zone with Cardinals head coach Jonathan Ganon brought to you by Nhard Ford and Chandler. Proud sponsor of the Arizona Cardinals No Bull. Our weekly visit with the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals and we congratulate Jonathan Ganon and the organization for ending that fivegame losing streak with a win on Monday Night Football last night beating the Dallas Cowboys. Coach, thanks for joining us always. We appreciate it and congrats on the win. That one had to feel good on the flight home. Thank you guys. Yeah, I appreciate it. It felt uh felt good for the players, man. So, down to Seattle. Here we go. Yeah. No, it was a terrific performance and we’re going to talk so much about it offensively, defensively. You guys just played great. Credit to the coaching staff coming up with a great game plan after the by-week. I mean, you guys did just about everything right in that game except having that punt block. But, we’ll talk about that. The biggest news that everybody just wants to know is you’ve made the decision to go with Jacobe Brassette as the starting quarterback. Is this a decision based on the injury that Kyler Murray has or because of Jacobe Brassett’s play that he’s become the starter for the rest of the season? Yeah, truthfully, both factors, Gambo, you know what I mean? I like what the offense is doing right now. I like I like where they’re at. Um and and like I said, Kyler, I just told the media like he’s Kyler is not fully healthy right now. So, just makes sense to me to just, you know, get out in front of it. Um, I think it provides clarity for our team right now. Um, so we can game plan and do the things that we need to do getting ready for Seattle. Is it safe to say that the way that Jacobe Brassette has been playing that even if Kyler was healthy that you still would have came to the same conclusion? Yeah, I mean, you know, it’s a hypothetical to me, but yeah, I like where we’re at right now with the offense uh moving forward. Jonathan Ganon as our guest here on the Burns and Gambo show when when it comes to Kyler and his health. Is is a trip to the injured reserve list on the table? Is it an option? Is it something you guys are considering? You know, I we we always look at everything, you know, when we need to make decision, make decisions. I they asked me today, they said, you know, did you expect it to be this long? And you never know how recovery is going to be. You know, at first when it first happened, no, I did not. But where it’s at right now, you you never know, you know. So, he’s doing his best he Kyler is doing the best that he can to get ready to go as much as he can. Um, but we’ll always do what’s best for the team and the player. From Jacobe standpoint, from your eyes, what did you see and how did you evaluate his play last night as it related to that win for you? Yeah, I thought he played well. You know, I mean, he, you know, he made some big plays with his arms, with his legs a little bit. um you know and he’s shown he can he can move the chains, he can generate explosives, you know, and and that’s not just him. That’s everybody doing their job around him, too. Um but I like how he operated, took care of the football. Um didn’t have a takeaway and was explosive, you know, and then we got down in the red zone, scored points, and moved the chains on third down to get down there and and scored points. So, that was good to see. We were looking at all the play action passing that you guys uh last night. No team has run more play action in a game than you guys did last night. You could do that more with Jacobe. You had extra time to prepare. I love what you guys did in the bye-week because there was just so many good things that came out of last night’s game. But tell me about that. Tell me about the decision to go to more play action passing. What do you like on film with that Dallas defense that allowed you to do that? Yeah, you know, the front that they play and the coverage structures behind it. Every every defense a little bit different. Um, but it was it was kind of two things. That’s a good question. It was kind of two things with what what do our guys do well um and then how do we want to take advantage of the defense that we’re playing and those play types looked really good to us, you know, going into last week. Um and so they were executed at a high level, I thought, for the most part. Um we had a couple sacks in there off of some different looks and some different things that they did and that’s going to happen. You know, they’re going to make some plays, too. But ultimately, those have been productive play types for us. I would say that’s a play type. They’ve been productive play types for us where we’ve we’ve generated some good yardage with those plays. We were me and Bernie were discussing this earlier on the show. Um the first series Dallas how the has the ball. They go all the way down the field. Williams and Pickkins and Lamb and Williams and Ferguson and then Josh Sweat comes up with that big play on fourth and goal. It’s so early in the game, but we look at it like that’s got to be a big momentum changer. They go for it on fourth and goal. You guys come up with a big stop with Josh Schwe. How much did that impact the game that play early on? Huge. Huge. Yeah, it was one of our keys to victory or I call it the winning edge was red zone. You know, both sides because they, you know, when you look at Dallas, you know, when they when they’ve played good defense, they keep people out of the end zone. And then conversely offensively, which is what you’re talking about, they’re going to get down there. You got to keep points off the board. Um, and I thought that was that was awesome, man. you know, he chose to go for it to keep seven point to keep all points off the board there. Not even just a four-point play obviously cuz they chose to go for it, but to keep points off the board was huge, you know. Um, and then I felt like we got kind of settled down there and and played pretty well the rest of the way. Jonathan Ganon is our guest here for his weekly visit on the Burns and Gambo show. Coming off the win yesterday against the Dallas Cowboys, I I I could look this up, but I’ll just I’ll ask you, did it seem like you were blitzing more last night? Did it was was were my eyes correct. Were you blitzing more a little bit maybe than me than he had earlier in the season? Bernie, you got a football eye. Coach, stop it. I think I think he played pee-wee football once, right? I think he played peewee. Made it all the way to Pop Warner. It looked like you were blitzing a little bit more than I’ve seen. We had a we had a little more up. I think um you know and and that goes into you know Gambo your question about the play action like when you know when you’re looking at how you want to defend somebody um you can you have a say you know and and going into that game we thought that um to up some of the pressures both on first on mixdowns as I would call them and then on known pass was a was a you know could be good for us and ultimately though guys I always go back to the players man the players making plays like it doesn’t matter what you call uh the players got to do it. So I thought they executed the pressures well. We covered well in the back end and it got home, you know. Um and then when we decided not to pressure, I thought we did a good job with fourman rush mechanics for the most part. Um and the coverage matched up in the back end. All right. Now I’m feeling kind of saucy here with my football eyes, so I’ll go I’ll go one I’ll go one step. I I I know you hate to make it about one guy. How much did it help having having Garrett back from his injury to kind of settle things and maybe declutter things a little bit defensively for you guys? Yeah, pro a lot, man. You know, it goes, you know, and and I appreciate JT, you know, cuz when Garrett went out, we kind of moved spots, you know, with him. Um, but I thought that, you know, Garrett’s a good football player. When he’s on the field, um, it typically makes everybody better. You know, that that is real. That’s the impact that he has. and in that spot. Um, you can do some different things with him because he’s in that spot. Um, and I thought that showed, you know, and and that was his first game back in over, you know, a month and a half or whatever it is. And and he’ll continue to to get back right to where he was, but I thought he played well. He had some big plays and and again, the flexibility that what he brings to the defense um that can impact the the game in a positive way. I think we probably said wow about 10 times with Walton Nolan, the tackles in the backfield, especially the one on Williams down by the goal line. Um, you know, you you saw him on film, you knew him, but he hadn’t had padded practices until recently because of the injury. Was there anything about his game that just that surprised you with how well he played? You know, no. Uh, yes and no. I you know I was putting a governor on my expectations just because this is his first game and he hasn’t played you know football a football game in a long time uh dating back to college but uh I you know when we acquired him I I had we have a vision for him what he can do for our defense and the type of player that he is and I think you know he gave you a little taste yesterday of what that can be. He’s a disruptive player in the running pass game. You know, my favorite play is when he got out of the stack and sprinted to the ball and and capped off CD. I thought that was a great play, but obviously a batted ball, a tackle for loss, a sack. You know, the sack kind of set probably ended the drive on second down. I think the sack was, but uh you know, he’ll continue to learn and grow and and and hopefully keep it rolling. But yeah, I was very pleased with how he played. I had a uh governor on the truck that I rented to move down here from New York, but I ripped I ripped that thing off after about an hour and a half of driving 55. I’m like, we got we got to open this engine up. I’m not going to give you guys all the details, but there was kind of a I don’t want to say a pitch count, but there was, you know, I didn’t want him to play 50 plays, right, his first game back. And and he was at a certain number that we’re kind of right where we talked about and it’s kind of late in the game there. And and I was kind of like, hey, uh, is Walt going to go back out there? Cuz I’d like to see Walt go rush right now and known pass. Sure as hell he goes out there and sacks him. I said, there you go. There you go. There you go. Take the governor off. Take it off. Take the governor off. Take the governor off. I can’t I can’t let you go without talking about the the performance of Marvin Harrison Jr. Yeah. And what he was able to do yesterday, especially in that first half. You guys had some mismatches on the field. You went to him early, you went to him often. He ended up having just a terrific game. What did you What did you again going into the bye-week studying them? What did you see on film that allowed him to be so impactive in the game? Yeah, I mean he was prime time player last night, you know what I mean? But that’s who he is. You know, we just we got to make sure that we’re giving him his chances. Now, they they did choose to defend us a certain way that, you know, the the way to move the football is to throw the ball to Marv there one-on-one outside the numbers. Uh, and that’s what we did, you know, and so that was good to see. He won a lot of one-on- ones. He kept the sticks moving on some third downs, obviously the red zone touchdown, but um you know, if you leave one-on-one with a guy um and you can block it up and protect it the right way and deliver the ball to him, he that’s what he’s going to do. So um it was good to see. He had a I saw him in the um meal room before the pregame meal. He had a smile on his face and and uh he had a good vibe going walking into AT&T last night. I know that. Coach, we appreciate it. Congratulations on the win. I know you’re on to Seattle. We’ll talk to you next Monday after that game. But we appreciate it. Thank you guys. Appreciate it. Have a good week. 1. Welp, if they ran the org like a business, this would have been the result anyways. Just look at the numbers… 3rd down conversions, making targets… Jacoby just takes the w

  2. The franchise QB is out for the foreseeable future maybe the season and Gannon sounds so relieved. Can’t blame him. He can do things his way now and his job is probably safe.

  3. No one should be surprised. I'll lay 3 to 1 that Murray has finally pussed out and realizes that he's not an elite QB. And Bidwell should've told him and his agent to go F themselves when they demanded that undeserved contract. Bidwell must feel like a total schmuck… thanks Kiem. Your picks all panned out.

  4. As much as it pains me to admit, Kyler is still the better athlete but you can’t take the ball out of Jacoby’s hand. First to throw 200+ and 2+ touchdowns in three straight games since Palmer? Yeah I’ll take that week by week. Jacoby can literally end Murray’s tenure with a Seattle road win.

  5. I've been saying it all year. Bench Murray, keep him healthy for trade. I dont believe he's injured. They are covering for a trade. If Kyler rides bench healthy, he will demand to be traded himself. He has a no trade clause in his contract.
