Dillon Brooks has changed the basketball mentality for the Phoenix Suns

I like that vintage. I like that. People forget that I used to used to do this, but um the new me uh you know, I like to play defense. I like to make it chippy, but it it’s like the icing on the cake when you’re able to score. Like it defeats them so much. And you know, guys are saying off on my shot and they just falling and I can see them just shoulders drop. It just gets me going even more. And um you know my teammates, my coaches, they see me work every day. So um it’s no surprise. Uh but you know, we watch the film like I always say, you know, see where we can get better. And we are on to the next. That is Dylan Brooks talking about well being asked about a vintage Dylan Brooks performance and he kind of enjoyed that. But the reminder, hey, I can score too. I could score 32 in a game. By the way, uh Dylan Brooks, Devin Booker, first Suns teammates ever to both score 30 or more points in the same game while playing under 30 minutes. Listen, which is fantastic. But the the way that Dylan Brooks, even though everyone knows what he’s about, the way that he’s still able to get under your skin as an NBA player, even though you know everything that he’s about, speaks to how good he is at that particular craft. But as we are seeing now in Phoenix, there’s way more to his game than just that. Yes, he’s but that particular he’s a fascinating guy. Look, because he is 100% committed to playing that role and not just some nights, not just some minutes, not some just some trips down the floor. When he is on the floor, it is a switch that is always on. It started early last night. He was, you know, when he was making his shots, he made a shot. I think he made a three and down the court. He and he had been reprimanded already. He already picked up a tech and there was some chippiness going on. Mhm. He stuck out his tongue at the guy that was guarding him, which got a laugh from some from some of the Suns players and some of the people sitting courtside. He is always switched on. If you didn’t know anything about history, if you if say if you loved basketball and and and they played basketball on some weird planet and you just dropped down on Earth and you if you knew anything about history like Sammy and Jamal yesterday, for example, if you if you knew nothing about history like Sammy and Jamal, you would say to yourself, yes, Dylan Brooks Brooks for Kevin Durant, that’s a trade that helps the Phoenix Suns. Not not knowing anything about Kevin Durant’s history as an all-time great player. what Dylan Brooks is bringing the Suns. Forget the draft picks. Forget Jaylen Green. Just mono for mono. Or what did uh DeAndre Aton say? Mono against mono. Something like that. Dylan Brooks has given the Suns more than Kevin Durant did. And that is a fact. From from the defense to the edge to the lifting up people to the compete level to the defense. Chemistry. Chemistry. Uh play against. against immano. That’s right. So, listen, here’s the thing. And I told you that it when the Suns get good like this out of the blue, it gets kind of amateur hour around here. You got a lot of people in the media shouting the loudest to prove to everyone they are the biggest Suns fan. You know what I’m talking about. You get a lot of that here. But for Devin Booker afterwards to come out and say something special is cooking here. This is the guy who I um who I praised for being so even keel on media day when everybody else was kind of running their mouth a little bit about how great everything’s going to be. For that to come out of his mouth means something cuz he is not one to go down and say things superfluously right against right. So, I don’t know when the meal is going to be done, but for him to say something special is cooking here is very, very exciting. Starting to smell pretty delicious, though, isn’t it? Uhhuh. Uh-huh. Hopefully, they keep eating. What’s the best smell, Jared, of a meal in progress? Tires. No wrong. It’s something to tal in. Pizza is good. Pizza is great. I mean, you could just look at my draft picks from a few weeks ago, but freshly break baked bread is great. But he’s getting all choked up. Uh, but I would say sauteed onions and garlic. Yes, that’s if you throw some Italian sausage in there, I’m right there with you. Okay, so uh the Phoenix Suns again, this is you know cuz you’re you’ve got one of the best seats in the house. Uh they are killing people at home. So you do that, you you are going to start creating a real real good vibe. The idea of hope, we haven’t had this in so long. And the idea that this might be an organic kind of new thing coming right in the wake of the worst thing we’ve ever had. Yeah. It’s it’s exhilarating is what it is. It’s been a very pleasant surprise. It’s been very enjoyable to watch. Mhm. Hopefully it can continue. I don’t want to be this guy on the back end of it and say, “Man, it’d be great if the Suns could add to this mix with a high draft pick.” No, don’t don’t Vinnie. Don’t do it. I won’t do it yet. No, not yet. No, no, but but at the same time, I I do think that there is something to what Vinnie is saying, and that is try not to project. Oh, is this going to be a top eight? I hope you don’t have any questions like that in social studies, Jared. Okay, good. Delete that one. Delete the ones about Do you think they’ll be a top five seed? Do you think Let’s Let’s stay in the moment with this team and enjoy it. But earlier, even earlier this year, a couple weeks ago, the a lot of the thinking around the Suns was, well, they’re not going to win that much. Just play the young guys. Play your Rashir Fleming, play common Malawatch. You’re not going to win anyway. Might as well develop those guys. And the pain of that was if you are a high lottery, if you’re one of the worst teams in the league, this draft is loaded at the top. But what the Suns are doing right now, they’re taking themselves out of high lottery consideration even though they don’t have the pick, softening the blow at least, if nothing else. Uh, one more cut from Jordan talking about Dylan Brooks and his hard work. Yeah, against any good defensive team, um, it could get late in the shot clock, you need someone to make a play and when you have multiple guys out there that can make a play, it’s obviously super helpful for your offense. And Dylan had it going. Dylan made some tough twos. Um, but then that’s the spirit of the basketball gods. It’s like you work, you take care of your body, you do everything you can to go out there every single night and play hard. Um, you get paid back and his work has started long before he came to Phoenix and um, he puts it in and tonight he he was able to benefit from it. And he did one bucket that he made uh, just an impossible off-balance shot that he got fouled three-point play. It went in and then while he was on the ground he did uh what’s the chop, Jared? What’s that called? The wrestling move that the the the groin chop. What is that called? The crotch chop. Yeah. But who who made that famous? Anthony Edwards. Well, in wrestling. Oh, I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. This way. You need to do it this way. I’m not sure if he crossed his hands. Stop performing. Sit your ass down. I’m showing the people who are watching cuz it’s two different ways. It It’s It’s either the nWo or the Degeneration X from the ’90s. two two wrestling stages. Depends if if the things were crossed or not. My point being I’m sure he rose on your on your list of popular players by doing that. He’d make a great wrestling heel, wouldn’t he? Although it’s so funny when you hear him talk, he’s so chill. He doesn’t have that, you know what I mean? Dylan Brooks is so chill. Thoughtful and complete and like everything everything works together in in his head. He’s got an explanation for everything and why he does what he does. I told you he’s a fascinating guy. The f but again this is the second of a backto back and he and he came out and he recognized my team needs my special brand of energy and he scored what 12 in the first quarter.
