To begin with, I don't even know how I should take this news. There have been so many drastic changes in the franchise in a matter of days that no one has been able to process anything.
First, we went from looking for a new manager (whose selection surprised many), to seeing several of the guys enter free agency, and now we're facing a possible sale. Dude, what's going on?

  1. The writing was on the wall. But this is less than ideal, unless some deeeeep pockets come in and take over. Please not another Moorad-type buffoon.

  2. WTF! Can we catch a break? First we lose in the playoffs, then we lose a manager, then they hire a guy that no one is excited about, now selling. Hopefully, we can get an owner that wants and likes to spend money.

  3. New ownership doesn’t necessarily mean good or bad….sure we could end up with a Arte Moreno or a Bob Nutting, but we could get a Steve Cohen or a Steinbrenner…

    You never know.
    Keep The Faith compadres.

  4. Unfortunately, there are more Dick Monfort’s than there are Peter Seidlers in the world. We were lucky once, doubt it happens again.

  5. It would be cool if someone like Steve Ballmer could buy them. He will always be the number 2 team in L.A. with the Clippers. This is his chance to outshine the Dodgers lol.

  6. I just hope they do it quick. If nothing else, this tells us these rich fucks believe that the team is at its peak value and they won’t be doing anything more to increase it. So with them in control, there’s nowhere to go but down.

  7. Dodgers buy up the best of the best, win a WS, and we get to see our team sold, manager leave, and our window pretty much close. Rough being a pads fan

  8. Hard to tell how this impacts the Padres long-term….but short-term in free agency, I think this is really detrimental. Hard to attract free agents when there is uncertainty with the organization/ownership group.

  9. Hopefully the sale is to someone/a group that appreciates and loves this city like Pete did.

  10. > Sheel Seidler also alleged John Seidler becoming the Padres’ control person was contrary to her late husband’s wishes

This quote from Sheel’s lawsuit lives large now. She knew what Peter knew. It’s important to remember that this is a large (controlling) chunk of the team, but not the whole team.

This is annoying though, and a week after the street naming. Peter’s siblings really do seem to be pricks.

  11. I miss Peter, it would have been cool to see his legacy carried on by the Seidler family but if this means we can get a competitive owner who’s willing to invest like Peter did than that’s for the best!

  12. Someone in another thread pointed out that Sheel didn’t even show up for Peter’s named street reveal. It’s obviously a crap shoot on what type of owner we get but hopefully they’ll be better than this owner by committee bs.

  13. We wanted to honor Peter’s legacy by waiting a year before selling the team. Ugh

  14. I want to believe that they will actually try to do right by the team. But feel free to sell me a bridge, anyone.

  15. Seidler bros are nothing but blood thirsty vampires. Peter swore the team would be in family for generations. These MoFos just want their money FFS

  16. Everyone is sad about this because of PS’s love for the team, but this might be the a step in the right direction for the Padres. The Seidler brothers don’t seem to be as passionate about the Padres as Peter was and the family’s pockets aren’t deep enough to field a championship team. Their whole net worth is tied up in their franchise just like the Buss family

  17. Could we see Alfredo Harp Helú or his family try to buy the entire thing ? 👀👀 they already do a great job with the diablos rojos

  18. I doubt anyone is too surprised with this. Only thing we can do as fans is see how this turns out.

Imo, I doubt it’s a long dragged out thing as well. I’m sure some talks w interested groups has been going on. Possible we have new ownership before the start of the season if things line up well.

  19. Sooooo…Sheel Seidler, Peter’s widow, was correct about the brothers selling the team. How much else was she correct about? Do you think it might be more than just that one major thing? Maybe everything she said? Yeah, I think so too.
