Utah Jazz vs Indiana Pacers Post Game | Ace Bailey and Lauri Markkanen!! | Hoops Nerd Show

the Indiana Pacers. It’s the Hoops Nerd Show. Let’s talk about it. [Music] All right, guys. Like and subscribe to the channel if you haven’t already. Let’s just get started. So, the Utah Jazz get another win this season. This puts them at four for the year. We’ll just go right now to the standings just to look. And this puts Utah at the 10. They do not keep their pick at this point. So, we’ll see how this season continues. But it’s a young season, but this is 11 games in. It’s crazy how fast this season goes by. It goes by really quick. And so, Utah is now sitting at the 10 spot. and beating a really bad Indiana Pacers team right now. They’re terrible. There are three teams for sure going to be around here. It’s crazy that the Pelicans could have kept this Indiana pick uh and they traded it. And so now, you know what’s crazy for the Pelicans is even if they gave up this pick to the Atlanta uh Hawks, which is looking very possible, they could have kept they could have kept their pick. They could have gotten the Indiana Pacers pick if they had not have trained it traded it. It’s crazy. At least the Jazz are not the New Orleans Pelicans, but in a way we are because we traded our pick to Oklahoma City. Congrats to Ryan Smith and uh Justin Xanic. But it was a fun win tonight. And I think what’s going on for me is I’m gonna just try to enjoy it and just hope that the Jazz have that luck that they need to win the lottery. They haven’t had it the last 3 years. Let’s hope this is the year they get it. I really hope so because it’s what’s going to take this team into contention if they don’t. They wasted the first two years of this rebuild. Just completely wasted it. They didn’t do the right thing. They waited too long to make the moves they needed to. It looks like that’s what’s going to happen this year or they’re just going to, I guess, try to give Oklahoma City a top 10 pick or something. But that doesn’t matter if the Jazz win the lottery. So, basically what we’re looking at is just do the Jazz have luck this year. Do they have the luck? We’ll see. They are able to beat really bad teams though. They pounded the Indiana Pacers tonight, which is nice to see. Nice to see some of these young players improve for sure. And that they can beat this Indiana Pacers team. Pascal Seakum still a very solid player, but he’s kind of in that tier of Lowry Markin. If he’s your best player and you don’t have a lot backing him up, you’re not going to win a ton of games. And so he was nice tonight. 27 points. Uh very solid night actually for Pascal Seakum. They’re just not very good defensively in any way. Miles Turner leaving that team was bigger um a bigger impact than I think you probably realized. He was really good for them and it’s not a surprise that the Milwaukee Bucks look better. Miles Turner is a very good player and so he knocks down threes, great rim protector, just very solid all-around player. And so him leaving the Pacers, uh, you know, we probably shouldn’t be all that surprised, but they’re still having I don’t know. I think they’re pretty much healthy besides obviously Hallebertton. Um, maybe I’m missing someone. Are they missing some other guy? Uh, Jarus Walker, I have to say, uh, that may have been just a complete miss. I mean, he’s just not been particularly good. Wasn’t good tonight. And then they’re starting Tony Bradley and they’re just not very good. They’re just not very good. So, that’s all we got on the Indiana Pacers. All right, Utah Jazz. We had a big this Utah Jazz team. They can take advantages take advantage of bad defenses. I mean, the Jazz don’t have a good defense and neither do the Pacers, but the Jazz just had a better offense. 152 points on this Indiana Pacers team. By the way, it won’t be talked about, but the Pacers did manage to put up 128 on Utah. So, if you’re pro tanking for this team, there is still a case to be made that Utah is likely going to end kind of in this range. Dallas doesn’t have any of their bigs. Once they get their bigs back, they’re going to get better. I have a hard time imagining the Clippers aren’t going to start winning some games. I know they’re old, but they’re going to win some games and they’re going to beat bad teams and they’re going to win a lot of games against average teams. Uh I just Yeah, Sacramento, who knows? They’re obviously going to scour the market for trades of their guys, but I just have a hard time seeing the Jazz not be kind of in this five six range. In fact, I’m sure that’s where they kind of plan on being. Um, New Orleans is has no reason to tank. So, they’re going to play hard all year. So, I don’t know. It’s not like all is lost, but it certainly has me ringing my hands. Utah sits at 10 right now if the lottery was today. So, kind of kind of tough, but you uh at least it’s fun, right? I It is fun to see the players play well. S Mick goes eight for 10 from the field, three for five from three, four rebounds, four assists for 20 points. Uh solid night for Si Mchy. I don’t really have much else to say about Spei. We know what he is. We know what he can do. There’s not much else to it. Uh Lowry Markin had a nice nice night. I mean, I had been worried two games ago about that three-point percentage. He has come out of his slump, five for seven from three in this one. 13 for9. He just battered this uh this Indiana Pacers team. This Pacers team is bad. I don’t know how they’re going to win any games. They just Who knows? Maybe they kind of figure out some sort of secret sauce, but they have no inside presence. They are bad. I mean, honestly, they might be a team that might send Utah a crazy offer for for uh for Walker Kesler. I mean, if if they offered their first round pick to the Jazz, it would obviously drop a little bit cuz well, but that Walker wouldn’t play. If they offered you that pick, then you take that in a heartbeat. But they’re not going to do that because this draft is so good. The smart GMs and smart owners understand that and are positioning themselves. So, we’ll see. But, uh, yeah, Utah’s defense is just not very good. Um, and the Pacers defense is even worse. And that’s part of the reason why Markinham was just able to just absolutely crush them. So, it’s nice to see him have a good night. 35 points on just crazy efficiency. Really good Markin. He just he really is such a good offball player when the shot is falling. When the shot is falling for Markin, he’s extremely good. And I think, you know, when he has a number one option leading the way and he’s getting open shots and a chance to kind of roam, then that’s where he really shines. And we kind of saw that tonight because of the bad defense and also because Utah had a certain someone, a certain rookie really playing well. Uh Ysef Nerkich is I mean, he’s going to have nights like this against teams like this Pacers team that has like no inside presence. He kind of actually just has an impact. three for six for him. Uh 11 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, he’s so big. And for teams like this, uh this Indiana Pacers team, they could not do anything with him. He just you can’t move him. And so if the ball is near him, he’s going to get it. Uh but 30 minutes for him. Good for Nerk that he’s playing pretty well. He does pass the ball pretty well. Four assists. I mean, his assists per game is actually pretty good. All right, let’s talk about it. Ace Bailey is figuring it out. And that’s one of the reasons why Utah is going to win more games is because guess what? When you tank and you give yourself an option, a chance to get a really good player in the draft. Guess what? It works. Like, aren’t the Jazz super happy that they tanked last year and it got them Ace Bailey. They would not have gotten Ace Bailey at any point. There would have been no shot to get him. because the Jazz put themselves in a position to get him. Now they have him and we’re starting to see the dividends already and it’s still I mean he’s playing within the offense for the most part and that’s what Will Hardy’s been saying. So he’s playing within the offense. He’s you know giving effort on defense. What I love is his offensive rebounding is actually pretty high level. Three offensive rebounds again in this one. Four rebounds and an assist. But he was just knocking down shots. And this is the thing that you were excited about with Bailey is the shot making ability with his size, length, and athleticism. He can just rise up and he’s got pretty darn good footwork. Let’s see. Seven for 13 from the field, four for eight from three. He took two free throws in this one. Probably could have had more. Um he’s just so athletic. Uh yeah, it was a great game to be at because you saw kind of the potential of this Jazz team. Um, and I’m not going to be super negative. I guess maybe I probably sound negative tonight, but uh, I’m excited about the development of the youth. I just want to I you guys, you know what I want? I want to win a championship. And I want one of these superstar players to join Ace Bailey to join this team and be that core group that you build around for years to come. So, the Jazz are playoff and championship contenders for the next 10 to 15 years. That’s what I want. I don’t want this like in the doldrums stuff every single year like they were the last two, three years. It’s just not fun. What it’s nice is when you have hope and you bring on super nice young talent and tonight we saw that with Ace Bailey. He is looking like an absolute piece and that these games every single minute is important. These players don’t get practice during the season season very often. It’s very rare that they get like open open days to practice. You know, today was back end of a backto-back. They are they’re typically on the road all the time. In fact, I’m I’m not quite sure. In fact, when do the Jazz play next? They will play, let me just pull this up. I’m just curious. So, today is the 11th. They will play the day after tomorrow Atlanta and it looks like at home. So they might get some practice in tomorrow. It’s just they don’t get regular practice. And so these games are super valuable. And the big thing that Ace Bailey is showing right now other than just kind of needing experience and time and learning little uh the innuendos of the game, he’s got to improve that handle. It you can just tell at times where it’s just not as tight as you’d like. But each time he’s playing these games and each time he does handle that ball and they allow him to do that, it’s big time. He is looking like such a weapon. And he’s got the mid-range game. He’s shown that he can go to the basket and finish with authority, finish in different creative ways. And the three-point shot looks great. His free throw shot looks fantastic. He’s only missed like one or two the entire year. and he was like a 68% free throw shooter. So, he’s already getting better. And as that handle gets better and he can just drive, get some passes. He’s get to the basket and things like that, draw fouls, he’s already shown that he’s a willing passer and a good passer. Like his assist tonight, this one went to Markin and this was nice. This is just a twoman game with Larry Markin getting him an open three. This is the type of stuff that’s going to really turn him into something really special. And let’s see. That’s not loading. Let’s see. Let’s pull this up again. See if it loads. Come on. Video not available. Anyways, what it is is a two-man game with Larry Markin. They Markin sets a screen for Bailey. He drives and then kicks back out crosscourt to Markin from three. And it was great. Let’s try one more time. See if this will pull up. Nope. NBA is a biased against this show 100%. Anyways, he’s playing so great and as that handle gets better and he gets comfortable just driving, getting into his moves, doing the different things in the offense. I mean, he’s looking like he could actually run a pick and roll, which is really exciting. What needs to happen though is they need to put him at the three. I kind of am tired of Why is S Mik playing the three when Ace Bailey? I don’t know. I don’t it doesn’t make a ton of sense to me, but uh he just he’s just going to get better, guys. And he’s really good and it’s going to get exciting. And if you can add some superstar talent next to him and they can grow together, that’s just really exciting stuff. Jordan the Go, Ace needs to be in the CR game in crunch time. Why is Ma closing out games over Bailey? Terrible decision. I don’t know. I don’t love it. I I it kind of And by the way, this just is a special shout out to all the morons out there, especially the the water carriers on Twitter that just kind of take every jazz decision and jazz line and just go with it as if it’s gospel. When like remember when Ace Bailey wasn’t starting? How stupid does that look now? That was dumb. That was just dumb. Like has to earn it. Well, you know what? He was the best option. Sorry. He’s just a better player than who you had starting over him. He’s more dynamic. He’s a better defender and he’s playing on raw talent right now. As that talent gets honed and polished and he just improves that game and just become he’s just going to become there’s a world where he just becomes this complete player and he could be he has like top 10 upside. It’s really based off of that handle and if he can defend well and just improve, but he just looks so good out there. It feels like he’s one of those players and I don’t know how to even describe this, but he because he’s so big and long and he does defend when those three-point shots fall, they have like almost a bigger impact. They just feel like they hit hard and and it’s exciting stuff. It really is. this Jazz team does has potential to win more games than you probably expect when he’s playing like he did tonight because it’s just really good. Now, defensively, not good. Utah on this offensive team right now does not have I mean, Ace Bailey is a rookie, so you’re going to just have to consider it rookie level defense. He does make some plays here and there, but Lowry Markin is not a good defender. Mik is not very good. Nerkich is too slow. Keonte George is trying and putting in effort, but this Jazz team just does not do well defensively. In fact, let’s just go look at the the rankings now after tonight’s game. Uh, not scores, we want stats. Let’s see. See all stats. Go to advanced. Okay, number one, the Oklahoma City Thunder, by the way, who probably are going to win the title this year. And Utah’s trying to give him a top 10 pick again. I don’t know why, but that’s what they’re doing. Uh, let’s see. Utah right now is the number 22 offense, so better than last season. Nice to see. Defensive rating. Oklahoma City is the number one offense and the number one defense. And they haven’t even played with Jaylen Williams yet. And they might get two top 10 picks in this draft if Utah keeps doing what they’re doing. That’s crazy. Unbelievable. But anyways, the Utah Jazz are the number 22 offense, 23 defense. So, we shouldn’t be surprised that they’re kind of sitting in the six or seven spot here, right? I mean, they were here yesterday, dropped, jumped all the way to 10 with this win. Um, yeah, Utah, if they want to drop, they better lose some games, but, uh, who knows? Uh, but anyways, Utah’s sitting here 4-7. I guess they might be trying to do a playin. I don’t know. I don’t know, guys. I really don’t. Um, but we’ll see. Uh h it hurts my heart. It really does. It really hurts. I try to be straightforward and honest. It does. I I want to have Ace Bailey have a superstar next to him. We’ll see. We’ll see. Uh Keonte George was in foul trouble for a lot of this game. And so he ended up not playing as many minutes. 26. He was three for 12. The shot wasn’t falling as much, ironically, against this bad defense. So for whatever reason, you could tell he was kind of forcing it because he wasn’t getting shots early in the game. and he probably feels some sort of responsibility there. And when you’re forcing stuff, it’s not a good idea if the shot’s not falling or you’re not getting it. And because he was in foul trouble and he wasn’t out there able to score, I think he was just pushing it. And that’s what happens is three for 12, 0 for three. He did assist the ball seven times, which is nice. Uh, five rebounds and just three turnovers, so that’s nice to see. But that’s in 26 minutes, so actually not particularly great. So, but nice to see this whole team just play really well and dominate an Indiana Pacers team that’s really bad. Isaiah Kier had his best game of the season and honestly his best game in a while. He had that first game where it was pretty disastrous and then the last two off the bench he’s done much better. Uh tonight five for six from the field he just goes so hard and look at that 11 assists. He just is an assist machine. It’s crazy. 14 points, 11 assists off the bench. He just goes so fast. And if you are not Oh, sorry. If you do not get back on defense, he is going to burn you. And that’s what he did tonight. Those burners are fast. Uh, one for two from three as well. So, 14 points and a team leading plus 24. No one took advantage of that bad defense and bad interior defense more than Isaiah Collier. And so, that’s really what he’s good at. And you know, the shooting’s got to come around, but on nights like tonight, he’s going to take advantage. And he definitely did. He earned those 26 minutes for sure. Uh Bryce Sensah came back and finally started hitting shots again. Six for 11 from the field, 4 for9 from three, 16 points, four rebounds. He had a nice steal in this one. Uh two total, and an assist. So nice to see Bryce Sensah playing better. He’s been in a super slump. And so after tonight, much much better. In fact, well, we don’t have time. Um, Cody Williams got 18 minutes in this one. It was not very good. The Cody Williams thing, it might be done, guys. I don’t know. There’s times where it looks well. And he does play defense. Like, you can’t argue that he does play defense. He is a defensive player. That’s what he is. The offense, it’s just he’s not taking a lot of shots. He doesn’t impact in a lot of ways, but he does defend. And so I don’t know. I don’t know if there’s much else to say. Cody Williams to me is just a defensive player and we’ll see if he continues to grow and impact things. We’ll see. But this team has a lot of young players vying for minutes and there’s young players that are getting better. And if Cody Williams does not get better, then uh you know, I don’t know. I don’t know. But uh it might be I don’t know. I I guess that’s with Cody Williams. Guess the answer is I don’t know. I don’t think he might be on the even on the team next year. We’ll see because we’ve got extensions coming. Although he was uh he’s he’s still got at least another year on the Jazz, but the following year, I don’t know if they’ll up him. We’ll see. Kyle Filipowski, four for eight from the field. He continues to play well off the bench. He’s just a very, very nice offthe-bench player. He does a lot of nice things. In this one, he was shooting it pretty well. Four for eight from the field. uh seven rebounds, three assists. He just does a little bit of everything. He’s just very good as an offthe-bench big. It’s really nice. And you combine him with their slew of young guards like Kier, Clayton, Sensiba, and you have Phil Filipki. I mean, the Utah Jazz have a big rotation that they’re going with. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 rotation really. And that does not include Taylor Hendricks who’s missing time. So, it’s really like an 11man rotation. Um, I hope so, game enjoyer. I really do. Thank you so much for the donation. $2 is super generous. I think we will, too. I’m just I’m nervous as heck. I’m so nervous. I am. I am. I’m nervous. I am. But I I love see It’s just this weird mix of emotions. Next year, it doesn’t matter. We’ll keep our pick no matter what, which is good. But, uh, we only keep our pick with the certain conditions, so I’m very, very nervous. Ah. Um, anyways, back to Philippowski. He’s very good off the bench. Does a little bit of everything. And it’s nice that he can be a little bit like off as a starter, I don’t love it because I I think he gets taken advantage of defensively a lot. Off the bench, it’s not as big of a deal. And when you’re playing against a team that has big depth problems, he can take advantage and he did tonight. So 16 points, seven rebounds, three assists, just very solid from Flip. He’s he’s a very good off-bench big. Kind of like uh what’s his name on the Bucks that comes off the bench? I always forget his name, but uh he’s very very good. And finally, Walter Clayton Jr. Also, I mean, just the Jazz have a luxury right now of very good players. He’s eight points, three assists in this one. He only took three shots. He’s just very solid. He only plays 12 minutes. So, he’s at the end of the rotation. I don’t know if I completely agree with that, but Utah has, you know, the thing is is this trade deadline might be pretty interesting because Utah does have a little bit of a need to consolidate a little bit. you know, some of these players, you know, are, you know, Cody Williams. I don’t know. Utah’s got to make some moves at this trade deadline at some point to make some consolidation. Um, I guess they don’t have to, though. It’s just if you don’t play, you don’t play, but they can keep these players on the team for as long as they want. Walter Clayton, I think, is a player that’s very good and could really earn. I mean, you could argue he probably should be starting with the starting unit. He just brings a lot to the table, but they’re not going to do that, I guess. So, but anyways, I’m always a little puzzled with Walter Clayton Jr. getting lower minutes. I think they’re probably trying to see exactly what they got with Kier before they make some sort of trade or move or keep him, whatever. It’s just it’s a full roster, 11man rotation. It’s tough for everyone to get minutes. So, and when you’re a team trying to develop, that’s that is important to get these young guy young guys minutes. Like we talked about, there’s no practices during the season like there are in the offseason. It’s just you the games are the practice a lot of the time. So, all right guys, it might be a little bit of a quicker one, a back end of backto back. I got dead legs tonight. I actually am excited. So, I got something that I am going to change my background with here coming soon. Let’s hope it turns out good. If it’s bad, then I’m going to be disappointed. Uh, but something to look forward to. It’s going to be cool. Um, let’s just end on the fact that Ace Bailey is really good. He’s really good, guys. And it’s just I I almost I ended up deleting the tweet because I didn’t want to get I’m trying to be so positive because it is a win and we should be happy when we win. But one thing that I’ve realized is that tanking always works. Sometimes it takes a little longer uh than others. But it always works. It will always work. And it worked for Utah. They got Ice Bailey. It worked. They got him. There is no debate. It worked. And anyone who is against it is wrong. This was proven right yet again. Yet again, but only if you do it correctly. The Jazz did it correctly once in the three years they’ve been bad. Um this year we’ll see what happens, but it’s not looking like they’re doing it correctly this year again. Um but at least the Jazz have Ace Bailey. He’s extremely good. He’s going to be extremely good. Right now he’s just you can just tell he is just this moldable clay uh talented player that’s just going to improve in a lot of ways and he’s going to become great. and you would just hope to pair another nice talent in the lottery with him. I guess this season is just going to be hoping for that lottery luck that Utah can finally have that luck that jumps you into the top. Um they’ve won before. You know, anyone who says they didn’t win the lottery is not true. Winning the lottery doesn’t mean winning number one. You win the lottery by getting into the top four. That’s winning the lottery. Sorry, that’s the reality. And Utah has won the number three spot. It’s when they picked Andis Caner. So, let’s hope that Utah can win it again because this team has so much potential at this point to become something really fun. And uh we’ll see. Now, I hope I hope that Will Hardy can coach a defense at some point. We’ll see. I hope. Um jury’s out on that, but they can play offense, so that’s nice to see. Uh anyways, I love Ace Bailey. get those Ace Bailey jerseys. He’s looking like an potential just star. It’s really great to see. All right, so let’s I guess we got to go to the Tankaththon. The Utah Jazz are on the verge of creating something special and I’m just going to embrace it. Lauri Markkanen is very good and Ace Bailey is showing why he can become a special player. If the Jazz can get lucky this offseason with the lottery than they could become something very good, very fast.

  1. Honestly not sure what more we can do to tank. We are playing Jusuf Nurkic 30 minutes a night. This guy proved 3 years ago he isn't an rotation caliber big anymore. We have Svi who couldnt crack the rotation on our team last year. 1 of our 3 proven nba players is out for the season as well. Honestly just looks like there are teams more committed to the tank at this point (IND, WAS & BRK). I don't see any way we have a bottom 3 record. Lottery night sure is gonna be a butt clencher.

  4. Would love to see the jazz win organically w young players + lauri developing. Best case scenario in this case would be to finish 5 or 6th. The odds of losing the pick to 9th is .6 & 3.7. Theyd still have 11% odds to jump into the top 3. I dunno what else they could do if they win organically to tank worse. Im sure they'll find way to make sure they're not at risk if losing this year's pick somehow

  5. Just don't trade lauri. He's an allstar and could easily be the 2nd best player on a contender. Continue to develop everyone else and hope they Make a keyonte george type of leap.

  7. Give it up my guy nobody wants a losing mentality. It sucks hoping that Utah loses. Are you even a fan you need a winning culture And mindset. I’m sorry but year after a year of hoping Utah tanks is not what I plan on doing as a jazz fan. Because Utah will continually get screwed in the draft so you might as well win every game you can. And piss poor, pathetic efforts and lineup manipulations to lose games is just sorry.

  8. You got to give a shout out to Collier. Chianti has been really good as a point guard, but you can tell immediately that Isaiah is the best passer on this team by far. If he just limits himself offensively I think he's a great asset

  9. It's 11 games my guy if it was after the All Star break then we can START being nervous and remember the stupid Mavericks got the number 1 pick as a play in team almost a playoff team. Plus we have ALL the draft picks we will be fine so far I want Mickel Brown, AJ Dybantsa or Cam Boozer. If we can get one of them we would be awesome.

  10. Pacers with Siakam, Toppin and Mathurin will be better than they were this game. Turner definitely a big miss though (and Hali of course, but he’ll be back). It’s fun watching the Jazz play at the moment. I’d prefer if we kept our pick though

  11. It’s very obvious that you have a problem with Ryan Smith that goes deeper than just basketball. You need to try and be more unbiased. Everyone in the world can see what the jazz are trying to do so the negativity is just not necessary. You also need to admit that you were wrong about walk Kessler, and how empty the jazz are without him defensively
