StephNoh posted a video on Twitter showing a moment from Matas’ rookie year where, in a film session after game, he was told to take a shot he attempted and ‘throw it in the trash.’ Personally, I don’t think it was a bad shot, and I don’t want to speculate too much without knowing the full context or what the coaching staff’s specific issue was. But it did make me realize how few mid-range attempts we’ve seen from Matas in general. It feels like his shot creation might be getting limited, and that could be concerning for his long-term development if he has the potential to become a true three-level scorer.

I wouldn’t read too much into it. That’s a low percentage shot for most people not named Jokic or Durant so I’m sure there were reasons. What’s this from though? Would be interested in watching the whole thing
Also the few times he was stripped going behind the back recently.
I wish Matas went into further detail why, but my guess is the shot creation looks like something Kobe or McGrady would do. Its overpowering to a random spot solely for the purpose of separation and shooting a contested mid-range because youre the guy who needs to shoot the ball. He basically can try that every time on a defender that size so I can see why you don’t want to encourage putting your head down and trying to score by any means on that dribble. My question to Billy would be what is that other option at 13 or 10 seconds on the shot clock? And I agree with OP, he actually can be a three level scorer and you can’t let this turn into a Lauri situation where we stunt the true ability of our players because of random coaching ideology.
Oh my god what are these comments? Y’all either didn’t watch the full video or didn’t play sports.
All these dudes love Billy and call him a player’s coach. They say he tells you what you need to hear, but keeps it light hearted and helps you improve at it. Plus he explains why with analytics.
“shai shoulder” lmao
Disagree with Bill here. That’s a good shot that Matas needs in his bag.
