The sad thing is probably the same amount of people would be cheering for the KKK then as they would now. And be like hahahaha bASeD
Good.
Absolute legends. I hope they won the game too.
Just to clarify, hopefully the KKK didn’t win.
They have (I think) the original newspaper article of this on display at the Negro League Museum in Kansas City. I highly recommend that museum for all baseball lovers (which I’m assuming all of us are)
I initially thought we were talking rugby, at first glance.
With their bats, right?
I wrote a paper about this in high school, here are some other facts the article doesn’t mention:
Day of the game it was extremely hot. And given its location, extremely humid. The attendance was great but people complained about how miserable it was just to attend. If I recall it was supposedly over 100 degrees or close to.
Island Park was the major stadium serving the city at the time but it was a disaster waiting to happen. The island it was built on was basically a sandbar that had formed from the Arkansas river dropping. The resulting ground was unstable and prone to flooding. They built an amusement park that failed and then built the stadium which became the hub for baseball in the area. The stadium itself didn’t last much longer after the game and was torn down in the 30’s by the WPA.
Not surprising. I don’t know how anyone could see a pitch through those little eyeholes in their hood.
Will the movie about this be called ‘A-holes in the Outfield’?
✊
wasnt it like 100 degrees also and they wore wool unis

That’s cool and all, but I’m legitimately surprised that the Klan agreed to play that game.
I love stories like this. There’s a Bollywood movie about cricket that is a similar story: The British we’re colonizing and exploiting a small town in India, challenged the locals to a match and got beat. There was much singing and dancing.
Edit: the movie is [Lagaan](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lagaan)
cool!egool!
lol I can totally see the Current administration deleting all links to this game from the history books

I wonder what the line was on that thing. Talk about a layup
Run it back, let’s play two
Reminds me of one of the great things of the honor system in Red Dead Redemption, where you lose honor for randomly killing people.
Except when you come upon the Klan in the woods with their fiery cross and you gain honor for tossing a stick of dynamite into the crowd.
Was Ty Cobb playing?
It probably would have been a closer game if the KKK remembered to cut eye holes in their sheets.
It’s an incredible piece of history here in Wichita. There’s a good little exhibit about it in the AA stadium here
