Tua Tagovailoa meets with the media | Miami Dolphins
Hello everyone. Hi Tua. How you doing over here? Sounds like how I I can’t see you. How what’s up? Um earlier today, uh Mike was talking about uh your production when you’re playing with conviction and how how much it helps the team. And I’m wondering in your view, how do you think you’re you’re doing right now in terms of your confidence, your production compared to whatever it was when you were playing at your very best for the Dolphins? Yeah, I I would say uh to the confidence aspect of it, as I said last week, the confidence is there. It’s just the conviction aspect of it. Uh years are going to be different, games are going to be different each year. And so I I I think uh this year, you know, it it’s not up to the standard that I’ve I’ve wanted it to be, but the most important thing is um you know, I I think the wins that we’re getting and not putting that aside against good teams. And uh outside of that, you know, it it’s a correlation of everyone, right? Not just me. It’s a team effort to to help um in getting wins for our guys. Hey Tua. Um Marcus Mariota, I think you’ve spoken about him. Uh the inspiration he was uh to you growing up. If you could touch on that. Um and in the same breath, uh just if you could touch on not seeing Jaden Daniels on the other side. Yeah. Um you know, long story short, I think a lot of people know I I looked up to Marcus when I was in high school. He was at Oregon. Then when he transitioned getting drafted to the Tennessee Titans, uh, you know, he, you know, I was a big fan of him. Um, still am just of the person that he is outside of the player and, um, you know, just happy for for his success. I know he’s been, uh, going through es and flows throughout, you know, years and teams, but, uh, if you get to know the kind of person he is, I think, you know, the playing and whatnot is is second, you know. So, I I would say not playing Jaden Daniels. No, he’s a great player. Um, but you know that that’s not who I’d be playing against. I’d be playing against their defense and vice versa. Yeah. Hi, Tua Alvar here. Nice to meet you and so nice that you are in Spain. The first article that I wrote for Spanish newspaper here was about you and the title was toa the quarterback who changed American college football and it was about yeah the impact that you had in in Alabama and with that offense in a conference that was mainly about running and defense. Uh and I was just want you to close the circle the circle and know if you feel the same about that. Did you feel that you changed uh the most important conference in college football? I appreciate you writing that. Um I would say to to no means um did I do anything to change I think the catalyst of what was already there in um Alabama football with coach Sin and what he’s done over the years. Um, but you know, he he just gave us the opportunity to to play football to the best of our abilities and the best of our talents and our gifts. So, I think that’s all it was. But, you know, that I I appreciate you writing that, but I I wouldn’t um say that that was due to me or one any one person. You know, I think it was a collective of that team th that group of guys and then given the nature of who coach Sabin is, uh, you know, you add that on top of that and that’s just the cherry. Adrian Ro from welcome to Spain and congratulations for your career also. Good luck. Uh the question is you’re here on a professional basis but uh first how how has been the very first approach and what do you expect if if you got any free time what what is there anything you would like to see around in Madrid on whatever yeah for sure um you know this this is my third international game but being able to travel internationally and uh visit different cultures I think is a cool thing uh not just with the food with the language uh with the people as well. And yesterday I had the opportunity to go check out the city a little bit and I thought that was cool. I got to see a little bit of the cathedral. I thought that was really cool. And then check out some uh spots while while walking. Um and I think I got about 20,000 steps in yesterday. Um just walking. Uh but it, you know, nice nice and cool. Um not too hot. So, it it it was really cool. Pardon? Oh, this facility is awesome. Um, yeah, I I wouldn’t say anything bad about this facility. It’s beautiful. We have a football field to go on. Got cold tub, hot tub, got lockers. Um, you know, we got the weight room as well. So, can’t complain about that. Want to ask you, you you’ve done three international games. What is the biggest challenge for you guys as players? Like I know you work on Tuesday to get get game ready. You’re on a flight for eight hours. How did this week change your preparation time? And also, did you bring your family? Uh I I didn’t bring my family with me. Uh my family will be coming. Uh but I think the biggest aspect of it would be the time change just forward six hours from you know Miami and uh yesterday having it it felt like we had like two practices although we didn’t do anything yesterday but just land I think the sleep uh aspect of it was tough. Uh when we landed you know some guys got five hours of sleep some guys were going in and out of napping. Uh then when we landed, you know, some of the guys were really trying to stay up and then try to get acclimated as well. So, uh I think that would be the the toughest aspect of it, I would say, for what I’ve seen with guys and then for myself as well. Hey, Tua. Um, I know you guys haven’t had the season that maybe you might have expected, but coming off of last week beating not only a division rival, but the reigning MVP, does that give you guys any extra spark going forward, or is it just another win? Well, you know, I I think that’s a big confidence booster for our team. Um, but uh, you know, we we were able to enjoy that win for 24 hours. you know, we we we want to put that to rest and we want to focus on the commanders this week and uh you know, find every possible way that uh we can to help win the game, offense, defense, collectively with special teams. So, we spoke with Mike and kind of going off a house question from earlier. He used this analogy that you have to be more of a point guard and not a shooting guard. I’m curious if he’s ever used that with you. Yeah, he’s used that with me. Yeah, for sure. For sure. Just being able to distribute the ball uh would be the analogy. I’m about to say like what does how did you interpret it the first time that you heard it? um as as uh the way that I explained it, just being able to distribute it uh however that may look, whether it’s no look looking at the guy um you know, off of our little reverse little deal, I guess, thing things of that nature. So, yeah. Then kind of moving off from that with Jaylen in the you know, I think ever since Tyreek was hurt, he’s cleared it’s like five catches and 80 yards in every game except for one. We hear from around the building that you guys have always seen him as that number one guy, but how have you seen him, I guess, take his game to any other level ever since he had to step into that role? Yeah, I think the the leadership role that Wadd has taken is also been a step forward in his game uh with the little things where it’s just breaking out of the huddle and uh you know, if it doesn’t look the way he wants it off of what he told the receivers, all right, everybody back in the huddle. we’re going to get this right and then we do it in that way. So, I think his leadership aspect has taken a big um big step forward this year. Hey, Kaylin Kaylor with ESPN. Um I know there’s a sense that this team has been written off a little bit this season because of the record and the change at general manager. I’m wondering if you’ve thought at all or if it’s in your mind at all when you guys were out there that by being competitive and winning more games that you might help McDaniel, your head coach, to retain his job as well. And if that was in your mind at all in last Sunday’s win over Buffalo, you know, I I know I understand the question. I know uh there’s a lot of talk outside about uh certain individuals, certain people. Um, but I think, you know, more so with the last last week’s game, um, I think it shows the togetherness of our team. And I don’t think it’s anyone playing for themselves more so, you know, it it really is everyone playing for each other, everyone having to do their job, having a conviction to do their job, and then each individual trusting that if I do my job, I got to trust that this guy’s going to do his job as well and not try to play hero ball where all right, I don’t know if he’s going to do that, so I’m going to go out of my job, out of my way to maybe do his. Then when he does his and you don’t do yours, you know, I think that’s where things fall apart. Um where we got to play with conviction. You know, we we just continue to stick together, play together, and uh you know, I don’t think anyone’s worried about any of that external uh noise when it comes to that. When we play this game, we know what we sign up for, and we know this is a business as well. We want to play for each other. We’re going to do everything we can. We don’t prepare to go out there and think, “Hey, we we want to do bad. we want to lose this game. Like, no, we go out there with our hearts, with our minds for war. Like, that that’s what it is essentially. So, yeah. Hi, D. I want to know if you talk with your brother with Tulia. He was playing here in Europe in in Germany this year for a German team. And I want to know if you talk with him and about the difference about the semi-professional league like the European and the NFL league. This is really really different. Did you talk with him? So I haven’t talked to my brother too much about uh the differences between um you know when he was in the CFL when he played in Germany and then him I think he’s playing in Arena Football League now. uh haven’t talked to him about the differences with those um you know versus the NFL and whatnot, but um you know I I’m just glad that my brother gets to continue to do what he loves and he wants to do. Uh so yeah. Hey Tua. Um you talked about Marcus back here. You talked about Marcus a little earlier. He was kind of sharing about how when you were a kid, he pulled you up to the high schoolers and and threw had you throw because the guys couldn’t catch a little bit, but he talked about Hawaii and what this will mean first time you guys played. And I’m curious your thoughts of people back home getting to see maybe the two standard bearsers at quarterback for Hawaii playing on this stage. I think it’s a really cool opportunity for a lot of the kids back home in Hawaii and a lot of the kids in Australia, New Zealand, um, Samoa, Tonga, where wherever they are within the Pacific. Uh, to be able to see two Polynesian quarterbacks go at it. Um, and then it’s also cool to see everything come full circle with me being able to look up to Marcus to having a chance to play against him. Hi dua, welcome to to Spain. Alex said earlier that it’s been a challenging season for everything for for the brotherhood. He mentioned you’ve been very vocal here in in the podium maybe about things within the locker room. You’ve had some backlash in in the media, but you’ve been very realistic of yourself too. Can you tell us about your journey this year as a as a leader as a human being? How this season has affected you with a lot of changes in the top of of the organization too and how how Tua has changed during this year? How’s you adapted to everything? Yeah, for sure. I think that’s a really good question. Um, I was asked the question um to in a production meeting about what was the biggest challenge for me this year that I thought whether it was playing whether it was on the field or off the field. And I think the biggest one for me was off the field with um the game after the Chargers uh because of what I said given my leadership role on a team sharing things with the guys telling guys you know what the expectations are and then our rule number one for the team is to protect the team and then I go out and say what I say in the media regardless of what my intent was. um you know that none of that should have been shared. None of that should have been said and uh I think that helped with my leadership although I wish I could have you know not have said any of that or I could have taken it back but it’s out there. I said it I owned up to the to to it with the leaders with with the team and then with the team as well. And uh I would say that was just the biggest one uh when it came to regrets this year um because of the relationships I’ve created with a lot of these guys. And um you know football football is one thing but then you know I I I look at the relationships uh to become more important than than anything we can do on the field. So um yeah I I I appreciate that question. But yeah, that’s I I would say uh for myself that that’s what I’ve I’ve learned. Um and I I’ve I’ve grown from. So yeah, David, last question. And it’ll be a fun last question. I just want to know if in Miami or in South Florida you’ve picked up on any Spanish that could come in handy uh out here in Spain. Um I don’t know. I say hello and then I think they they just realize oh yeah he doesn’t speak Spanish and they say hi like they’re just like hello like can I take your order or something like that. So I mean I don’t know too much Spanish. I hola bonas like you know just no what is it majid majid? Anything else? All right. Thanks guys.

You’re the man Tua! I believe in you
Glad Tua had a great game there were a few errors but that’s ok but at least we got the win. Keep it up Tua I believe in you man. Go Dolphins.🩵🧡🩵🧡
If you are not very sure of your passes being completed don't throw these interceptions are going to cost you especially in a close game especially with a good team
Phins up Dolphination!
Let’s get it Uce!! 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
Keep Tua get , linemen out draft and secondary players I bet the 2023 dolphins are back next season
Tua is the most up and down QB in the league. He’s not bad and he’s not good he’s just average and average will never win us a playoff game.
if tua has no fans im dead
Ballout the rest of these games left and show why you are the Franchise QB 🐬
Just win the game don’t embarrass us in Europe
