Good Morning Football: Belief in Steelers, Giants Next Move, Best Booth Moments of the Week
Presented by Old Trapper beef
jerky. It is a Wednesday,
November 12th. I’m Sherry Burris here with Manti Te’o. We
are in LA. Jamie is in parts
known. We’re going to get to that in New York. Mike Garafolo.
Kyle Brandt holding things down.
Guys, it is Wednesday as I mentioned. So whiteboard guests
galore. Kyle, what else we got
going on today? Mike. I’m looking at the New York Post
right there. Should I hold that
up or should we skip and go with the different story? Go
for it. Do it. They say Giants
Bill Belichick just say no. Strong opinions on the idea
that the Giants could hire Bill
Belichick for their coaching opening. I have strong opinions
as well. Mike you Steve Serby
Steve has been around long enough. Been around since
Belichick was a you’re right
and they’re bringing it back up. We’re going to talk about all
kinds of things like that.
Maybe that maybe otherwise. But all around the league we got a
whiteboard. Like you said we
got a great show today. It’s Wednesday. It’s good morning
football. Should we start it?
Let’s start it. There it is. Roll it. Come on. Oh, no.
Welcome to Good Morning
Football, presented by old Trapper. Hey. Well happy
Wednesday to you. Good morning
football Sherri Manti Mike G. Kyle Jamie in Madrid for the
International Series. Who do
you think talked more on the plane. Is it Jamie to her seat
partner Mike G maybe flying
when he flew back to New York. Me yes. Yeah. Mike you can
answer that one. Oh, I think he.
Yeah. Mike. Oh, no. It’s been a long time since you boys had a
conversation on a plane. All
the flight tickets, life added up. Combined to not equal the
same transcript as Jamie
yesterday. Jamie likes to chat on the flights. Oh. That’s her.
That’s part of her charm. Yeah.
Jamie. Jamie loves to talk. I witnessed it firsthand. I
wasn’t sitting by her, but I
could see her. And she was constantly looking to her side.
Yeah, she she she’s a chatter.
Well, we can’t wait to hear her stories from her flight because
that’s going to be an exciting
thing to catch up on the international games. But first
we have some business at hand
for the lead block on Sunday night. Think back at SoFi
Stadium. It was rough for you
Steelers fans. Aaron Rodgers in Pittsburgh. He threw two
interceptions, sacked three
times, including the safety. Steelers fell to the Chargers
25 to 10. Well, yesterday head
coach Mike Tomlin was asked about what he thought about his
quarterback’s play lately. I’m
not going to, you know, chalk it up to last night, but there
are no long term concerns.
Sunday night was what it was. But I have no long term
reservations about his ability
to play the position and play the position at a high level
for us. So with that
understanding, we’re going back to work this week and we got to
put together a better plan. We
got to make more plays. So unfamiliar territory. It feels
like for the Steelers a real
rough go as of late, they lost three of their last four games.
But as we know, Mike G. Mike
Tomlin likes to say the standard is the standard. So as
you look at this, what do you
make of the Steelers right now? Something’s bothering me with
the Steelers right now. And
maybe somebody’s going to tell me that I’m wrong about this.
And it’s just kind of sort of
hyperbole. And I don’t remember 567 years ago whatever. But
Aaron Rodgers reactions to his
own teammates to maybe himself, I don’t know. There’s been a
lot of this. There’s hilarious
a lot of this, and I don’t love it. Right. Like this is not he
is strongly hinted that this
could be his last NFL season. He hasn’t really closed the
door or solidified that. But is
this the is this the last vestiges of Rodgers? Jalen
Warren is a nice guy. Come on.
Yeah I mean the one time where he got knocked over right. And
he’s yelling at. That’s a
different. But this is like and I’m reading his lips. Oh yeah.
Well yeah I didn’t know that
one was in there. They’re all in there. We’re still we’re not
even looping these. Like what
just from one game. Yeah. They’re new ones right. Like
why. And I’m not going to
pretend like I know what’s going on in his head, but, like,
I just this leads me to believe,
like, the whole thing is just not on solid ground right now.
Like, come on, Aaron, this is
your last. This is this should be the Derek Jeter Mariano
Rivera farewell tour, giving
you gifts and waving to opposing fans. I don’t want
this. This is I don’t know
what’s going on here. Well, here’s what’s going on. This
has always been Rodgers. It’s
not new. He’s just not caring anymore. He’s always felt that
way. Always. This goes back to
when he was sitting behind far. If he felt that way that’s
Rodgers. He just as you get
older Mike and you can relate to this I’m sure in your own
life you just don’t care
anymore. I’m just going to be me. So that’s always been the
guy and he’s just letting it
out. Here’s where I come out on the stairs. What do we make of
the five and four Steelers
right now? The state of them and the conversation about them
is extremely reactive. Instant
on and on. NFL news cycle week to week to week. I’m not going
to sit here and say this was a
great game against the Chargers. It was a bad game. It was a bad
road trip to California and
they got housed for the offense. I thought the defense was okay.
They held Herbert in check.
They didn’t get run all over. They didn’t give up any huge
runs at all. Because remember a
month ago, I’m old enough to remember everyone said the
Steelers defense was crap. But
the week to week thing guys, one week ago, right before the
Chargers game, do you not
remember the Steelers completely housing the
sweetheart Colts? Jonathan
Taylor did nothing in this game. He was completely stuffed.
Daniel Jones the story of the
year was completely turned inside out by the Steelers
defense. This was not back in
week two. This is week nine okay. You have to at least give
them some equity for this game
in which the number one story team quarterback, running back.
I thought the Colts had the
best offensive line in the entire league. Why did Daniel
Jones have half a second
against the Steelers front. All right if you want to go quick
reactive hot take on most teams
in the league I would say 28 teams in the league. Fine. The
Steelers organization. You got
to give them a little bit of equity of yes that was a bad
game. But year after year they
turned in a winning product. And I’m going to give him so
much equity. I’m going to do
something that I hate. I’m going to do something that I
hate. I’m going to look at what
do they say you either die a hero or live long enough to see
yourself become the villain. I
hate the segment where you put up a team schedule and just say,
win, loss, win, loss. I’m doing
it. I’m doing it right now. Here’s the Steelers remaining
schedule. I’m going to do it
all right. Starting in the upper left. The Bengals the
Steelers are five and four.
They’re going to win this weekend. That’s the Steelers
are six and four. They’re going
to lose at the bears. They’re going to lose to the bills.
They’re going to lose at the
Ravens. That’s not good. That puts them at six and seven as
we go to the right column. But
wait it’s the Steelers. It’s Tomlin. They will beat the
Dolphins to get to seven and
seven. They will lose at Detroit to get to a terrible
seven and eight. Then they beat
the Browns to get eight and eight. And Baltimore likely
with nothing to play with
unless something miraculous happens. The Steelers win.
Guess what the record is, boys
and girls, nine and eight, and through some sort of tie
breaking scenario that may even
involve an actual tie in somebody’s record, the Steelers
will be in the wild card round.
Take this clip. Save this clip. That was an awful trip to the
Chargers. That game did not
look good. Rodgers is screaming at people. Rodgers is missing.
Receivers nine and eight will
be there after week 18. I promise you. I’m saying it live
and play it back later. I’m
taking the clip and I’m saving the clip. Not for what? Not for
the win loss thing, for what
Kyle just did for two days in a row. KB just went against
everything that we stand for on
this show. Everything that I was taught by that man himself
of what we do and what we don’t
do. KB in the past two days and past 24 hours has broken a lot
of a lot of the Gmfb
commandments that we have on this show. So I am so happy
right now. Okay, break all the
rules. Break the rules. With that being said, man. Ty what’s
up? I’m going to shatter the
stone tablets. I’m going to do pretenders versus contenders.
I’m going to do fact or fiction.
I’m going to do X factors. I’m going to do all of them. I’m
just starting to go nuts right
now. I don’t. Have not hearing. That’s me. Yeah, yeah. No, I
shall not live by the
whiteboard. Bam. Die by the whiteboard. We don’t need those.
Anyways. I want to go back to
somebody that Mike G brought up. His name is Mariano Rivera. For
the younger crowd that doesn’t
know who Mariano Rivera is, he’s known as one of the
greatest closers in Major
League Baseball. And the reason why I like that reference is
because when I think about the
the Arthur Smith offense, there’s a lot of talk about how
Aaron Rodgers has been doing.
The thing about it is the system that he’s in, and he did
choose the system. The Arthur
Smith system is designed to close out games. However, it
does not have the scoring
ability to come back from large deficits. Guys, did you know
that Arthur Smith led offense
has not ever, whether he’s been a head coach or coordinator has
not come back from a deficit
larger than 13 points as never. They have not been able to come
back from a deficit more than
eight points with under five minutes left in the game. How
many games have we seen this
year, guys, where there have been at least 2128 points
scored with two minutes left? I
mean, watching watching the Cincinnati and Chicago Bears
game, I don’t know how many
points were scored in the last two minutes of the game, but it
was more than eight. And so
when you think about Aaron Rodgers and you think about
this offense and you think
about the weapons that they have, majority of the weapons,
his favorite targets are tight
ends, guys. They play mainly 13 personnel, which is one running,
one running back, three tight
ends. So then you add Aaron Rodgers to this equation.
You’re not going to have an
offense that’s that’s explosive. And in 2025 I can count on both
hands the amount of offenses
that can put up many points a lot of points in a short amount
of time. So yes. Has Aaron
Rodgers seen his struggles? Yes. Has the offense offensive line
seen their struggles? Yes. But
when you put it in a in a grand scheme of what this system,
this Arthur Smith system was
designed to do, it doesn’t help his it doesn’t help his case.
It doesn’t help the Pittsburgh
Steelers case. And being able to be in these games in these
close games and come back and
win. And as you mentioned it, Kyle. You either live to be the
hero or you die the villain. 21
seasons of Aaron Rodgers playing football in the NFL. So
certainly a lot of case there
to be made. We do want to bring in our NFL network insider Ian
Rapoport. We’re looking at the
Giants. If we’re breaking all the school’s rules I want to
see the remaining schedule. No
just kidding. We’re not looking at the Giants schedule. They
need a new head coach Ian tell
us more. What are we learning about the Giants quarterback
quarterback that Jaxson Dart is
in concussion before we get to their head coach we’ll start
right there with the
quarterback. Sources tell the insiders that Jameis Winston is
now in line to start for the
New York Giants this Sunday. It’s not clear. We don’t know
for sure because Jaxson Dart as
you mentioned, is in the NFL’s concussion protocol. And the
way every player responds to a
concussion is different and every concussion is different.
So we will see what he is like
today, whether or not he is able to practice. But if he
cannot go Jameis Winston the
likely starter. Now remember Russell Wilson has been the
backup quarterback. Well first
was the starting quarterback. Then was the backup quarterback
for the Giants. The last
several weeks it has not gone well. Russ has looked bad. And
you really do wonder if this is
the end for Russell Wilson has been a rough, rough go of it
recently. So Mike Kafka the
interim coach going to go with Jameis Winston who gets
elevated from the three to the
two potentially to start this week. James of course started
seven games last year 13 TDs 12
interceptions generally how it has gone. You mentioned the
coaching search. The Giants now
will have Joe Shane the general manager, leading that coaching
search going to happen. Now
behind the scenes as the Giants continue with their season.
Kafka I believe, will get a
head coach interview. Generally, the interim coach does have you
talking about some names to
watch. Wouldn’t be surprised if they got a little bit of a nod
to the Tom Coughlin era. Maybe
take a look at Steve Spagnola, their former defensive
coordinator has been with the
Chiefs. That would be one name. Antonio Pierce would be another
name to watch. Just as far as
former Giants, Lou Anarumo was a secondary coach for the
Giants certainly has done
incredibly well as the defensive coordinator for the
Indianapolis Colts. Matt Nagy,
who actually Kafka, has worked with plenty of good names for
the Giants to look at. And
considering they got a guy in Jaxson Dart, this is going to
be a very, very coveted opening.
All right. Well, at least one decision made for the Giants
Jameis Winston starting against
green Bay. Please mike him up. Giants. We want to hear all the
sound Ian we appreciate your
time. Now a little bit later in the show we are going to be
checking on the Houston Texans
I understand Manti. We get some family on the show today. You
know when you go to the family
reunion and then you bring the cousin from the other side of
the family to that reunion?
Totally. I’m bringing this man to our family reunion on Gmfb
Henry, the starting middle
linebacker for the Houston Texans. I love him and I can’t
wait for him to meet. The
curator of anger Runs because he’s not a running back. But he
does play angry. Yeah. My
brother Kyle. Kyle, what we got, that’s my kind of guy. I’m into
it. Plus, it’s the photograph
of the week in the NFL. Nay, the entire United States. That
man just casually rolling up to
a bill’s bar. We thought this guy was going to be fired a
couple of weeks ago. Now he
feels like he’s kind of back. Plus, there’s that man, and
then there’s this man. Why are
we looking at Ninkovich? That’s Brendan Fraser in Encino, Man.
I know his name because I know
stupid stuff like that. I also know he was part of the NFL
conversation. What? NFL head
coach mentioned that character yesterday. We’ll get into it.
Good morning football
whiteboard Wednesday. Don’t go anywhere. Good morning football
is presented by old trapper
beef jerky. What’s your beef? Old trapper beefs camp cravings.
There you go, buddy. Have fun.
This is not going to be pretty. that could save your life. Talk
to your doctor and learn more
at saved by the scan org. It’s time for What’s Your Beef?
Presented by Old trapper. Oh, I
got some beef. My first turn at this here. We’ve got a crisis
in our hands in the NFL this
year. I’m not referring to block field goals or
questionable taunting penalties
or missed false starts on tush pushes. At least not on this
cut of air dried beef. No,
today’s hunk of lean protein for me comes courtesy of NFL
coaches, who are turning down
what they say is the best thing in life. Something free. Free
points three points. As a
matter of fact, field goals from chip shots to kicks
roughly the length of extra
points. They’re there for the taking. But to NFL coaches this
year, they’re there for the
refusing. The most egregious example of of late was in week
nine, when Packers coach Matt
LaFleur, with his team down seven with 11 minutes to play,
scoffed at a 31 yard field goal
attempt to go for it on fourth and eight. Jordan Love’s pass
never had a chance. Later in
the fourth quarter, Packers scored a touchdown to tie the
game, though they would have
taken the lead if they’d just taken the points earlier. The
Panthers kicked a field goal to
score a huge upset instead of just sending the game to
overtime. This past Sunday, the
Colts drove down the field to start the game, went for fourth
and two instead of 4045 yard
field goal attempt. Our guy Kurt Warner, on the call
immediately second guessed it
and said, coming off a loss, the Colts should have taken the
points and some good vibes to
start the game. Yes, Kurt, points are good late in the
third quarter, down four
instead of one, Indy felt the need for a touchdown instead of
a field goal. Went for it on
fourth and one stuffed to the text. Read we go because we’ve
got this text thread with me
and Thom and Peter Schrager. May he rest in Bristol and a
bunch of agents as well. Here I
am at the top. Anybody know what the score would be if they
just kicked two field goals
asking for a friend. There’s Ian. Really wish we could find
out because Ian knows I’m Mr.
Conservative. I whited out the name of the next person who
said bad pitch. Not a good one.
Yeah, that’s a lot of words. Here are three. Take the points.
Who’s that person’s text.
That’s definitely that’s definitely not Schrager. That’s
an agent. No that’s not he
wouldn’t talk about the game play. No. That would be five
texts from Schrager split up
because he just can’t put it all in one. I’m known in that
thread as the conservative one.
Ian thinks I always recommend the field goal over going for
seven. Not always just when it
makes sense. And it makes sense a lot. It worked out for the
Colts on Sunday thanks to late
game heroics, but I could have spared you overtime on foreign
soil. Get on the plane earlier.
To paraphrase Marsellus Wallace, not Marcellus Wiley. That’s a
different Wallace the night of
the game, Ian, you’re going to feel something that’s pride
messing with you. Come on, NFL
coaches don’t get stuck in the basement chained up with a and
needing a samurai sword to get
you out of trouble. Take the points, leave the donuts. See,
that’s a Godfather and a Pulp
Fiction. Good. That’s good. Ian, am I too conservative? I don’t
know that you’re conservative.
I think more so. What really stands out to me is you’re told
you so guy. You know, you’re
you’re kind of like, hey, this should happen. I told you so.
Right. And that’s kind of I
guess along with being take the points guy. Yeah, that doesn’t
matter. You’re still told
nobody likes told you so guy. They know they should take the
points when they decide to go
for it on fourth down. Don’t get it. Then it comes back to
hurt them later. They know.
That said, maybe some are watching now. Maybe they’ll
listen to. Maybe we’ll see an
epidemic on Sunday of people literally just kicking field
goals and then taking their own
points that they’ve earned. I’ll be very happy. I’ll be.
I’ll be told you so in a good
way, Guy. If that happens, Ian, you know, there’s a lot of old
takes on that thread. Please
just keep it. Just keep it tight. I’m just waiting for
next week’s rant. Mike. When
everyone starts kicking field goals and you’re like, go for
it, you cowards. What is this?
Roll the dice a little bit the other side. All the way back.
Yeah, the other side of the
jerky. Yeah. We’re going to change your description on the
bottom. Say, I told you so.
Take the points. Soon we’ll be wait that side that way. Yep.
Mike Garafolo Kyle Brandt in
New York second half of the season guys really starting up
now Kyle this is kind of make
or break for some teams. It really is. And it’s also one of
the best games of the year so
far in the schedule. In terms of record in the NFC West. We
get Seahawks, we get Rams.
We’re going to talk all about it, plus all the other matchups
coming up. Because on Wednesday
we turn the page like Bob Seger right Mike. And we get on to
the next week. You guys don’t
know what I’m talking about. But Mike does. Silver Bullet
Band Detroit Lions we see you
too. Let’s start the show. Good morning football. Come on. Oh,
no. Welcome to Good Morning
Football, presented by old Trapper. Hey. Yeah. Come on in.
The water’s warm Wednesday here
on good morning Football. Sherri Manti, Mike G and Kyle.
You mentioned it. Turning the
page. Week 11. We’re going to start looking ahead because
there is an NFC West battle
royale that is going to be happening just next door to us
here in Los Angeles Matt
Stafford and the Rams will play host to the Seahawks on Sunday.
That game at SoFi Stadium both
teams seven and two. So this is a juicy matchup in a win here.
Could go a long way in deciding
the NFC West. It’s been a strong first half of the season
for LA. And let me just tell
you head coach Sean McVay he is pleased. It is truly all 11 and
proud of this group. They’re
earning a lot of the confidence with the way that they’re
working throughout the course
of the week, and this is what we want to be able to do as the
season goes, is just continue
to build up. And, you know, like I mentioned, you know, you
look up and you see you can’t
help but notice I’m a fan of this game how big time
Seattle’s been and what a great
challenge it’s going to be. And great atmosphere at home next
week against a great football
team. So there might be a little bit more traffic in the
area. Shocker. Looking at the
NFC West standings right now. Seahawks one, Rams two. We
talked about it yesterday. The
trust in these two quarterbacks Matthew Stafford and Sam
Darnold. Maybe you could say
he’s the work in progress here. But I want to know what do you
think Kyle a win would mean for
either Sam or what a win would mean for Darnold and the
Seahawks. If they could get one
across the street it would mean a lot. It’s first of all, I
think these are two maybe the
best two teams in the NFL. If the Seahawks win this game and
the power rankings sense, are
they sitting there literally the best team out of 32. But
also listen, they may have to
go back to that stadium in the playoffs. They may see this
team a second and a third time.
But my eyes go with all the quarterbacks and all the Sam
Darnold storylines. My eyes go
to the coaching and my eyes go to that guy who this would be,
I think a coming out party for
him because Mike McDonald would be going against Sean McVay,
who I’ve said a thousand times,
I think is the number one best coach in the NFL. Mike McDonald
is one of the most unknown
coaches in the NFL. I think most people are just starting
to say his name. I think most
people can’t even spell his name. It’s not McDonald’s like
the Quarter Pounder with cheese,
it’s McDonald. Mac is the guy who went to Georgia as a
college student, didn’t play
football just there as a student, then was on the
Georgia coaching staff and was
at Michigan. He was at Baltimore. He’s been around
forever. Do you know he’s 17
and nine as a head coach in the NFL over the first season and a
half. That’s brilliant. That’s
excellent. Excellent coaching seven and two this year. And I
just think if you were to walk
around every town USA and say to anybody walking on the
street, start naming NFL
coaches, how many are even know who Mike McDonald is, how many
still think that Pete Carroll
is the coach of the Seahawks? It’s really that thing where if
McDonald goes eight and two and
beats McVay and does it with Sam Darnold and with these
emerging players and these
emerging stars like Jason, it’s like United States of America.
Meet Mike McDonald. He’s going
to be coaching in at least one playoff game. It’s probably
going to be at home. And if
this team keeps cruising it’s going to be in late January and
beyond. I’m excited for this
guy because he’s so low profile and he shouldn’t be. I feel
like the Seahawks embody
everything he’s about. You hear about him kind of. They’re
supposed to be good, but I
don’t really know about him. Jeffrey Dean Morgan tweets
about him a lot. He’s the guy
who seems to be doing it. It would be huge for them. Huge.
There’s also Mike, a little bit
of a back to the shallow end factor. If they go to SoFi and
get their clocks cleaned by
Stafford and McVay. So there’s a lot of stakes in this game
even though it’s only a week 11
or whatever it is. But I’m watching the Seahawks closely.
As a friend of mine who’s a big
sports fan, I talked to him literally every single day.
I’ve known him since I would
say I was small, but he was always enormous blocking shots
in the lane and all that stuff.
He said to me yesterday, I got to be honest, I don’t even know
who the coach of the Seahawks
is. Literally what you just said, I’m telling you. And he
knows, I mean, you name it, he
lives in Philly. He knows all the athletes for all the like.
He’s so for him and what you
just mentioned. Look at that. This is how you spell it okay.
Not only is it M-a-c not m-c,
it’s a lowercase lowercase d. See, I would have done that.
That’s how you spell it right
there. Mike MacDonald. That’s great. It’s time for him to put
his name out there on every day.
Household name with a lowercase d. Wow Sam Darnold yes. Sam
Darnold facing the Rams who he
faced in the postseason last year for the Minnesota. So much
has changed right. Like that
game wasn’t even that SoFi. That game was in Arizona
because of the wildfires. And
it was a game in which it left us with a sour taste in our
mouth and maybe shaped what the
Vikings wound up doing with Sam Darnold this offseason. So this
is a chance for Sam Darnold to
face the Rams, and a team that’s going to pressure him a
lot more than he’s been
pressured already. Like that’s been a big part of what the
Seahawks they’ve done a great
job for years. You know I do a weekly radio hit in Seattle and
they would say I need to build
up this offensive line. This offensive line is playing a lot
better. They’ve got a lot of
really good pieces up front. But this is a Rams team that up
front gets after it. And now
it’s going to be that pressure in Sam Darnold’s face and
forcing him to make something.
Look at that right there right off the snap pressure in his
face. He’s going to have to
make some quicker decisions. So this is going to be, in a lot
of ways, a litmus test for the
new Sam Darnold. The Seahawks Sam Darnold Yeah Mike you talk
about Sam Darnold. And the last
time he played the Rams was in a Minnesota Vikings uniform.
Well I know we’re talking about
Sam Darnold and what it would mean for the Seahawks. But I
can’t help but think about what
it would mean for somebody like Cooper Kupp to walk into a
stadium. Because the last time
he played in that stadium across the street, he was in
the LA Rams uniform. Like you
talk about a guy who, in his first eight seasons as a LA
Rams was a team captain,
multiple years a Super Bowl champ, set a whole bunch of
records. A Triple Crown winner
like they would. They would chant his name in that stadium.
So I know as as as a player
myself. Listen, I played in 2017 when I went to the Saints
from the San Diego Chargers. I
played the Chargers in a preseason game and it felt like
a Super Bowl to me. And it was
a preseason game in LA. It wasn’t even in Qualcomm. But
then my last game ever in my
career was when I went to the bears. And in 2021, in the wild
card round, we played the bears.
The bears played the Saints in New Orleans. And so I got to
play another former team at the
home field. And it was the last game that I ever suited up for,
and it was such a special
moment for me just to be there. So and I didn’t really
accomplish half of the stuff
that Cooper Kupp accomplished when he was with the Rams. So
the one that I’m looking for
the most has to be Cooper Kupp. And his return to SoFi Stadium,
a team that he helped build, a
team that he helped win a Super Bowl with. And what that would
mean for him to come out with a
win, it’s going to be really special. And both of these
teams have the second longest
win streak right now in the league, each riding four. So
something might have to give
that game at 4 or 5 eastern out here in LA. But your day is
going to start on Sunday with a
very early game. The international Series still
going on. Madrid, the first
ever NFL game being played in Madrid. The flight time I just
checked 14 ish hours from LAX
to Madrid and that is where we find our Jamie Erdahl. I’m sure
she has talked nonstop to the
folks here. Are you our girls in the streets of Madrid? How
are you? How was the trip? The
trip was great. Thank you very much. Wonderful to see you guys
this morning. I’ve been
watching or this afternoon, which honestly, one of the most
glorious parts of being
assigned these is that good morning football is on squarely
in the middle of the afternoon,
which is really the appropriate time for a show like this,
because I found Vespas, which
makes me feel like I’m not just in Central Park. I’m not just
on the Upper West Side. I am
parked amongst the Vespas, which means we have truly
landed in Spain. That feels
very Spanish. The other thing to parenting tactics alive and
well amongst the Spanish
children. I just saw a child walk by me look to be in about
the sixth grade. Honestly, I
looked to be about Calvin’s age and he ignored me. He’s wearing
a dolphin sweatshirt and I was
like, go dolphins, go dolphins! He didn’t respond. Well done to
his parents. He also had a
Golden State Warriors backpack on, so maybe he’s like a to
Steph Curry type kid. But we
are here in Madrid. Our producer from Gmfb, Gina and I
arrived here this morning. We
took a little siesta. We’re already a part of the culture.
We’re about 15 minutes here
from Bernab?u. Bernab?u Stadium. I asked for that clarification
from my driver, who I had this
morning. Who is the person that I had the longest conversation
with on my travels? Let me just
tell you this story real quick. So talk to my driver for a
while. He didn’t know I was
part of the NFL. He just thought I was here visiting. So
he gets in the car and he goes,
gosh, there’s so much traffic here. You know why? Why, Carlos?
Because the NFL is in town. I
was like, you don’t say. And this guy went on and on about
the NFL being in Madrid and how
there’s so many more people here. And while the NFL is
brand spanking new to this city,
competition and sport is not because he went ham on how
Madrid and Barcelona hate each
other. So I was like, oh yeah, now we’re talking good old
fashioned rivalry. So I do feel
like even though it’s perfectly new for the NFL, for it to be
in Madrid, it is not new to
just have like fierce competition on a Sunday
afternoon. Jamie, you’re such a
legend and we know that you just got there literally like
four hours ago, yet you’re
still here live on television. I got to ask you your favorite
question, because I know you
have beef about this. When are the commanders and the dolphins
getting to Madrid? Don’t care.
I don’t even know if they’re here yet. No, I’m just kidding,
I do care. I believe both teams
are here. In fact, I do know that because I have to get off
this segment momentarily. I’m
going to be on the sideline on Sunday on NFL network. Both
sidelines. I get to be doing my
usual laps as a traditional reporter would, and I have Zach
Sieler calling me momentarily
from the Dolphins defense to talk about what Miami’s been
through over the last couple of
weeks. So got to go. The teams are in town. I got to talk
about their day off, what
they’ve been eating, what they’ve been getting into
because it is, as you can see
here, gorgeous. A gorgeous place to play a game of
football on Sunday. It looks
awesome. Tree lined streets, traffic behind you, pedestrians.
You look great. You sound great,
Jamie. Like you really belong there. And yet all roads for me
lead to your flight over there.
Who did you sit next to? How much did you talk to him? When
did you show them pictures of
your kids? And when did you ask them what their zodiac sign is?
I didn’t show them pictures of
my kids. However, I did offer to hold someone’s baby. There
was a baby in in the class of
the airplane that I was in. I never like to say where I get
to sit because it’s annoying.
And these sweet parents who were flying over here from we
connected to Atlanta, from
Atlanta, we’re bringing their little five month old baby. And
I was just like, oh, do you
want me to hold her? Do you want me to pat her on the butt?
What do you need? I did offer
that. They said, please leave us alone, creepy lady. I’m like,
but I have children of my own.
They’re like, where are they? Why are you by yourself? So
they didn’t let me hold their
child. However, I did wave at her, play a little peekaboo.
We’ll see how that how those
games go not only on the flight but on Sunday. But thanks for
asking, Kyle. But it was my
driver, Carlos, who was really introducing me to the. Yeah,
yeah, yeah, yeah, that’s my guy.
Kyle’s just really jealous. He wanted to have a really long
conversation. I’ve seen you
with kids. That parent should have taken you up on it. We
appreciate you. Have a great
call. We will see you tomorrow. Have a siesta sangria. You let
us know what you get into there
in Madrid. Yeah. Way to go, Jamie. Get into it. All right.
See you, girl. Jonathan Taylor,
can we talk about him? Front runner. Runner quite literally
for MVP. Manti, you have
something you want to break down about this Colts running
back a little little
perspective you know a little perspective. The guy isn’t just
running and scoring touchdowns.
He’s breaking records. And we shall see Kyle. We shall we
shall indeed. Plus the field
was crazy in week ten. Wait till you see what was going on
inside the booth when an all
time into the booth coming up. The best in broadcasting.
Sometimes the strangest in
broadcasting. We’re handing out awards. Mike G and I are going
to go into the booth. There we
are in blazers and fake microphones don’t go anywhere.
Huge segment. Good Morning
Football is presented by old trapper beef jerky. What’s your
beef? Where are you gonna say?
I’m gonna say, grandma. I’m credit check, no interest, no
late fees. Download Bridget for
free today. You are looking live at the media capital of
the planet Earth that is New
York City, Manhattan Island in the great state of New York as
well. And that is the media
capital of the world. As I mentioned, there is Troy Aikman
into the booth, and here is
Mike Garafolo on myself with microphones and blazers. And we
take time each and every week,
Mike, to hand out awards. We respect the men and women in
this industry so much who do
hard work on the sidelines and the booths everywhere. We like
to hand out a few awards to
broadcast in each and every week, and we start, of course,
with kind of our opener. What
do we have first? Yeah, let’s get right to it. We got a lot
to get to into the booth this
week. So let’s go look the international game you saw
Jamie and Madrid the
international series coming to an end. So let’s soak it up as
much as we can. Here is the
week’s winner for best play. Call Westwood One’s Oliver
Wilson on Jonathan Taylor’s
overtime touchdown. Second and four here for Indianapolis.
Warren in motion as a fullback.
And then they give it to Jonathan Taylor steps back
inside and he takes it to the
end zone for the touchdown. The man who has carried the Colts
all afternoon in Berlin gets
the game winning score to make it 3125. And Indianapolis are
cantering out of this kingdom
with a victory, cantering out of his kingdom. I got to be
honest, there’s an agent who
represents a ton of NFL players. Name is David Canter. It’s the
only time I’ve ever heard the
word canter. As a verb. Canter means to move at a gallop like
a horse, or for a rider to move
in a canter. Had no idea, as far as I understand, there’s
there’s walk, trot, canter,
gallop, I think are the escalating scales of horse
movement. And it’s a cold. So
Colt’s canter, the British accent always has like 30
points to your IQ. It’s they
just they sound beautiful. People sound so much smarter
than us. I’m so jealous. All
right, let’s bring it back to the mainland. Because in the
middle of a sleepy slash,
really bad Lions commanders game, everything took a sharp
turn. And whether it was on Red
zone or watching the broadcast itself, joining Kenny Albert
and Jonathan Vilma in the booth,
and our most expected play by play award is the president of
the United States. This
happened. So Ronald Reagan, well before becoming president,
he was a sportscaster. He
called Big Ten football. He called Iowa football games.
Would you like to call the play?
Well, I would like to do that if you’d like me to. We have a
very important I think this is
a very important couple of plays. Here we go. Second and
seven. Right. Second and seven.
Let’s see what happens. Whoa. That’s all right Merit. Not bad.
Takes it down to the five yard
line. That’s right, that’s right. Good. Good runner. All
right a few things. First of
all, you get probably the most difficult name in the NFL to
say right now. Jacory cross
who’s also known as Bill. Yeah. My takeaway from this is all
media. I look at Vilma and I
look I look at Albert. You’re handed this horrible game. You
know it’s going to be a blowout.
You have a lot of time to fill now, most of the time, the
broadcast in that situation,
you’re like, let’s check the upcoming schedule. Let’s look
at other storylines. You just
spin clock. Their tool with which to spin clock is probably
the most reactive human being
on the planet Earth, who everyone has an opinion about
that really gets the clock
moving. And I thought, those guys, I don’t know if they were
prepared. I don’t know if they
were part of the plan, but I couldn’t believe what I was
seeing. It’s I was happy for
them. Right. Because they’re what the the fourth, the fifth
team at Fox or the third? I
don’t I don’t know the depth chart. Yeah. I got to look at
my broadcasting depth chart,
which I feel like for this segment I should always have
available. And it’s like, oh,
by the way, guys, in the third quarter, you’re going to be
interviewing the president of
the United States. It’s that that meme of the guy, right,
right, right, right. Right,
right. Yeah. That’s great. So I was happy for them that they
got this assignment. You know,
it’s not every day you get to interview the president every
day either, especially during a
regular season game. The presidents we’ve seen go to
Super Bowls and everything.
Understand this was just week ten Lions commanders. And it
was history in fact. And you’re
not going to believe the clip we’re about to show you. It’s
really, really cool. This is
the first time a sitting president has attended a
regular season game since way
back in 1978. Take it away, Howard Cosell live from the
national capital, Washington,
D.C. A glorious night time view of Washington at the top of
your screen, the Washington
Monument, then the Capitol building as we pan down to
where we are, all gathered are
RFK Stadium, a jam packed crowd and not at home in the white
House tonight, but rather here
at RFK Stadium. The president of the United States, Jimmy
Carter, together with his wife,
Rosalynn. Why is everybody here as the booing is for the Dallas
Cowboys behind him? Colin, just
to clarify, the booing is for the Dallas Cowboys. That’s a
professional. I was looking at
the guy with the mustache and the butterfly collar behind him,
who I think is probably Secret
Service. That was just different back in the day. So
that’s the last time a regular
season game has been attended by a president. Mike, what do
we have next? I just I can’t
get over you saying the way that he like, the way that he’s
speaking. If he’s out Howard
Cosell, I will have the steak with a side of potatoes, please.
Like, is that how it would be
if you were sitting and having dinner with him? I guess that’s
just how he talked. And the
creme brul?e, like, it’s like he’s doing a bit. But that was
the legend. That’s what young
kids are probably like. What is that man doing? That’s how he
spoke. Time to. He’d be he’d be
a regular if he was around for inside the booth. Yes. If
inside the booth was around for
him. Best update. Cleveland, how are you doing? This is Bob
of Cleveland News 19, the
Guardians pitchers accused of the FBI by pitch rigging, the
Browns losing. So here’s Mark
Schwab trying to put a put a bow on it, I guess. Okay.
Browns go on to lose today 27
to 20. They had some critical defensive penalties in the
final minute or two of the game.
And they just found a way to lose. The worst in football.
Any uplifting no news today. No.
We have we have players getting indicted. The Browns losing to
a then one win team and snow.
There’s always next Sunday right? We hope so. Yeah great
job. Yeah that’s that’s the
problem. There’s always next Sunday. That’s the problem WOIO
beautiful broadcast great
background great desk. We love everything about that. Let’s
get to this one. This one’s
weird. Do we have to I think so let’s do it. All right Nancy
Romo you’re on the call doing
their thing like always. And then out of nowhere Tony Romo
makes a reference that I think
he believed means something that other people think it
means something dramatically
different. And here it is just fundamentally sound. This team
is DTF gym Patriots details
toughness and they finish. That’s my moniker. Yeah that’s
sounds very close to what
Vrabel tells him to. He says that yeah I think the team
might be technique for him. But
it’s all it’s all good. I don’t understand the hubbub about
this. I’ve always said details
toughness and finish. That’s why are we even including this?
Why was this a big deal and why
are you shaking your head at me? Well, when you go out to the
local watering hole and you
meet a young lady, you say details, toughness. Sure. What
was the last one? Finish,
finish. Whatever. That’s what you. That’s your pickup line to
her, right? I don’t I haven’t
done that in 30 years. Nance was thrown. Nance was Jim Nance
was thrown I kept on going.
Just kept on going. By the way I’m not saying that the
Patriots aren’t those things.
But that was a weird one. Mike and I could probably go other
places but we won’t give us the
next one. Mike yeah this is the best. Had this in the can
that’s in quotes. Mike Tirico
on the Chargers missed kick as Collinsworth chuckles. And we
love when he chuckles. Oh yeah.
This will be a 55 yard field goal attempt for Dicker. 55
Dicker Dicker. A dicker dicker
I wasn’t sitting on that. It just came to me. Sorry. Yeah,
yeah yeah I think Danny Smith I
don’t think this is a best had this in the I agree I don’t
think he had I think he just
think Dicker. What do I say now. Oh Dunker I’m breaking the
segment with you as well. I
think Tirico is at home watching him being like I don’t
make that stuff. You think I
take time thinking about what the kickers last name, what may
apply if there’s a doink? The
probability of a doink in the game is less than 1%. They did
a great job after that perfect
adlib. They showed the top of the upright and the measure.
It’s like four inches across.
It’s like that’s how in that game they showed it. So that’s
how rare it is, I guess. I
think Mike may have some stuff in the can, but not that I
think that was a pure ad lib.
Mike, speaking of Mike, Mike Tirico, by the way, did a great
job last night of interviewing
a fan behind him who was yelling into the mic. It was
Mike from Ocean City. Go check
that out from Sixers game. Mike Garafolo details, toughness and
what finish finish. Yeah, that
is exactly what we have just done. Tune in next time on into
the booth. Okay. Craziest
touchdown ever Tennessee Titans on NFL network. So they got
second and short. And that
means it’s Taylor time. And he’s got the first down. And he
busts away from the pack for
plenty more Jonathan Taylor big run. There he goes. And
Indianapolis takes the lead 83
yards. The longest run of his career. How in the world did he
do that. That is the new
longest run in the NFL this season. If the NFL was trying
to make a statement in their
first game in Berlin, they made a big one specifically on the
shoulders of that man, Jonathan
Taylor. Taylor’s performance wasn’t just tone setting, but
more importantly, it was record
setting. Jonathan Taylor finished the night with a
career high 286 scrimmage yards,
which broke a franchise record for the most scrimmage yards in
a game set by Hall of Famer
Marshall Faulk in 1998. Out of those 286 scrimmage yards, 244
would come via the ground along
with three rushing touchdowns, which broke another record.
Edgerrin James held the
franchise record for the most career touchdowns in Colts
history with 66. After Sunday’s
performance, Jonathan Taylor now holds that record at 68.
Speaking about counting, this
isn’t the first time that Jonathan Taylor ran for more
than 200 rushing yards and
three touchdowns. It’s his second, which ties him for the
most career games to have that
stat line with three other running backs Derrick Henry,
Adrian Peterson and the
legendary Jim Brown. Is there anything else that screams that
was major louder than that? I
don’t think so. Maybe the only thing that’s been louder than
Taylor’s stat line has always
been his humility. You are the all time leader in touchdowns
in Indianapolis franchise
history, surpassing Edgerrin James. You got 66 touchdowns.
And a big kiss right there from
Chris Ballard. What is that accolade mean to you to surpass
Edgerrin James? I mean not only
Edgerrin. You think about the guys who we had in this
organization beforehand and
they’re legends. But the stories around the building are
that they came in to work every
day, put their hard hat on, and to now be named amongst those
guys is something very special.
And I’m gonna hold it near to my heart. No, Jonathan Taylor,
you’re special. Talking about
special, how cool is it to see Chris Ballard, the general
manager for the Indianapolis
Colts, come over and acknowledge his star running
back by doing that during that
interview? It’s fitting, given the fact that two years ago,
things weren’t as celebratory
as it was on Sunday in the summer leading into the 2023
football season, tensions would
rise between Jonathan Taylor and the Colts front office.
Disappointed with how contract
talks were going, combined with some disagreements related to
what Taylor felt was
mismanagement of his injuries, the star running back would
request a trade, the Colts
would grant it. But one man always believed in Jonathan
Taylor from the day they
drafted him out of the University of Wisconsin, and
that’s Chris Ballard. Things
like this happen. I tell every rookie that comes in, there’s
going to be a point when we
disagree, and it’s usually about money, and it’s going to
be hard and just know that
doesn’t change my care level for you. I care deeply for
Jonathan Taylor. I have great
respect for Jonathan Taylor. On October 7th, after spending the
first four games on the PUP
list, Jonathan Taylor would get his payday signing a three year,
$42 million contract extension.
The rest is history. In his career, Jonathan Taylor has
averaged almost 93 yards per
game. That’s fourth all time behind Jim Brown, Barry Sanders
and Terrell Davis. Notice he’s
the only one on that list with a different acronym before his
name. I’m just saying. And
after Sunday’s performance, he is the sixth player in NFL
history to rush for more than
1100 yards and 15 rushing touchdowns in the first ten
weeks of the season. Know this,
guys three out of the five. They want MVP those years. How
major is that? Yet no one talks
about him. I mean, last week I heard more conversations on the
impact that Sauce Gardner could
have on the Colts more than the impact that Jonathan Taylor has
had on the Colts. And to be
honest, whenever you think about the 2025 Indianapolis
Colts, the first thing people
think of is the resurgence of Daniel Jones or Indiana Jones,
and I can’t blame them. But if
you ask JT, that’s exactly how he would want it. But I’m not
JT, so I’ll leave you with one
last thought. Remember last year when Saquon was having
that historic run and how
excited we were to see what he would do the next game and how
closer he would get, how much
closer he would get to breaking Eric Dickerson’s rushing record.
Well, let me show you something.
Jonathan Taylor is slightly ahead of where Saquon was at at
this point last year, and every
single category. Now that is major. Let’s bring it to the
fam. Yep. I’ll start with my
big brother. Awesome Kyle Brandt I know you love the
running back position. I know
you love the way that Jonathan Taylor runs the ball. Is any of
that information new to you and
how do you feel about how he’s been doing so far? Yeah, that’s
side by side. Just sunk my
battleship. I have not seen that yet. I know I’ve heard
some comparisons to Saquon, but
the numbers not only being equal but just a hair ahead.
It’s incredible. Remember
Saquon got sat down at the end of last year when he could have
broken the all time rushing
record 15. And the touchdowns are overwhelmingly different
too I mean I always my last
thing I always say the number one indicator of a good running
back is not the yards, not the
touchdowns. It’s that third one down yards per carry. What do
you do when we give you the
ball. Six is ridiculous. Six is that’s high school stuff in the
NFL. It’s amazing. And we just
thought we saw one of the best running backs of all time by
Saquon. And we did Taylor right
now is better I called him Offensive player of the year
the other day in a post on X. I
hate it. A bunch of people were like MVP, MVP. I hate it. We’re
going to have a tough decision
to make. Kyle, you and I coming up here because why? Mike a
couple of weeks because we are
voters. That’s right baby. Rock the vote. Yes, we are back on
board. We got ourselves a vote.
And the problem is the v right? Most valuable player. If it was
most outstanding player. This
is my guy right now. Most valuable. I’ll tell you what,
Mike. Give it to a
Non-quarterback. They’re eight and two. Yeah, Jonathan Taylor
was not on the team. I think
they were four and five, four and five, four and six. In fact,
ten games. I think they are
four and six team without Taylor. If you were to take
Stafford and let’s say who’s
been unbelievable off the Rams. And it’s McVay and it’s
Garoppolo. Are they still in
contention I think they are actually. So a lot of football
left to be played Mike. And I
cannot say who we’re going to vote for. We just like a lot of
the players right now. And
Taylor is certainly one of them. You know you mentioned Jimmy G.
I. There’s a line from The
Godfather. You’re my brother and I love you, but don’t ever
take sides against the family
again. Ever. So there’s no chance I’m going to tell you
that the Rams would be any
different with Jimmy Garoppolo. I love you, Jimmy. Not as much
as this guy loves you I love
you. You got to give a shout out the fact that he went to
Wisconsin on Wisconsin I see
you got to cheer for him in college. He also is an
astrophysics major. So
incredible fact that he is able to do what he does. Great job
man. You just blew Kyle’s mind
too. That was major. They may not talk about you everywhere,
but we love you here, Jonathan
Taylor. We love you here, buddy. Fighting for the end zone time
and time again. Look at 28. Go!

Steelers: the "standard" is 9-8, lol.
Didnt the dolphins beat the bills? Steelers could beat them.
DT … worst call ever.
Any my fan
The Steelers are likely to win when you wake up Sunday mornings (51%+)… and have done so since I was in high school in the 1980's (and before). That makes it worth forking over A WEEK'S PAY or more to buy nose-bleed tickets.
Iβm done with this boot licking show
Hawks 12s β€ the smarts & the Amazing humour of Kyle & we β€ KB has an MVP vote (its gotta be JSN or J.Taylor or Sammy D) (Stafford's gonna get hurt again & Maye's schedule is so easy that Old Rich Eisen cud win as Pat's QB)
the smarts & very nice looks of Jamie & Man-tie. Please dress Man-Tie in white cuz white makes his eyes look even lovelier.
Oooh baby π it's getting hot just thinking about his lovely eyes
Isaiah is very smart & sweet too.
Hey everyone, Iβm from India and have just started a small startup focused on a software application. Iβm looking for 5 investors willing to fund from $10K upward.
