Where are the top 10 picks from the 2016 draft?

  1. One of the cool things about baseball is how unpredictable player development is, and how it continues well into adulthood. All this effort put into scouting, but you just never know.

  2. Interesting. You think you’ve made it if you’re in the top 10 of the MLB draft but maybe not? I wonder what the career earnings of all these guys are.

  3. Really hope the Rockies hold on to Mickey, he was one of the very few bright spots we had this year.

  4. The MLB draft is such a crapshoot compared to the other professional sports drafts. So many guys just don’t make it.

  5. NFL draft first rounders: “we built the team around you and we’ll see you in a few months.”

NBA: “here’s your jersey, go talk to the media and you play our next game”

MLB: “oh you are the best college player we’ve seen this decade and passed every eye tests from multiple scouts? Great, if you keep trying, you might make the team’s bench in 3 years.”

  6. Doesn’t get any better through the rest of the first round. Kyle Lewis looked good, getting a ROY, but then injuries totally derailed him.

  7. Of these 10 I thought Zach Collins was going to be the best. He was an absolute stud with Miami

  8. This draft may not have been heavy in the top picks but later down the line come names like Will Smith (the Dodgers catcher), Pete Alonso, Bo Bichette, Zac Gallen, Corbin Burnes and Shane Bieber among others.

  9. Will Smith (LAD) turned out to be the best player in the draft and he was taken at 32nd, in the compensatory round

  10. Man, it’s a good thing we’ve got a draft lottery to keep teams from Tanking™ to acquire elite talents like these, huh

  11. In 2016, the Dodgers picked Gavin Lux at 20 and Will Smith at 32 (compensated pick from the DBacks for signing Zack Greinke).

They also selected Tony Gonsolin and Zach McKinstry in much later rounds.

  12. Also in that draft: Will Smith (32), Pete Alonso (64), Bo Bichette (66), Corbin Burnes (111), and Shane Bieber (122). 👀

  13. Just perusing that draft, you don’t find one All-Star in the first round. Only in the compensatory round (between 1st and 2nd), do you see any real fruits from the draft. Cole Ragans was drafted #30 by Texas while Will Smith, the catcher, was drafted by the Dodgers at #32. In the 2nd round, you get Bryan Reynolds (#59), Pete Alonso (#64) and Bo Bichette (#66).

You never what’s going to happen.

  14. Anyone else noticed the bullpen pitcher lying in the fetal position on that Nick Senzel dinger?
