Shohei Ohtani wins the Edgar Martinez Outstanding Designated Hitter Award! (FIFTH straight season!)

Now, let’s give it up for one of the best to ever do it at that position and the namesake of our next award, Hall of Famer Edgar Martinez. Hello, Las Vegas. Uh, it is always an honor to present the award that bears my name, the Edgar Martinez out of standing hitter of the year. I know how tough it is to make hitting look easy, but this year’s winner didn’t just make it look easy. He made it look legendary. For the fifth consecutive time, the winner is Choi Otani. And Joi, thanks for making me glad. They named this award after a hitter, not a pitcher, too. My best to you. Congratulations. Edgar Martinez outstanding designated hitter award. Show Otani. Otani. Inevitable. Oh my goodness. He gives the people what they came to see. A spectacular show. How far does it go? What a blast from Otani. Nobody like him. Never has been. Doubtful there ever will be. Show Otani has now won the DH of the year award for the fifth straight season, matching David Ortiz for the longest streak since the award was first given out in 1973. Accepting on behalf of Show Otani is his teammate Muki Betts. Show says thank you. I wonder if he gets tired of winning these things.

Shohei Ohtani 大谷翔平 has won the Edgar Martinez Outstanding Designated Hitter Award for the FIFTH straight season as announced in the 2025 MLB Awards!
