Miami Dolphins Rumors On Tua Tagovailoa, Mike McDaniel + 2026 NFL Draft Rumors

[Music] Midweek Mailbag edition of Miami Dolphins today. This mailbag took place on our live show on Monday. If you want to get on our mailbag, well, go tune in to our live shows on Mondays and Thursdays. I am Nick Rolloff. We’ll start with this question from Flatliner and he did correct himself live on the channel when he said is opinion on Lenor Cellers better after last game. He meant to say Ty Simpson the Alabama quarterback and listen it is. I think Ty Simpson has continued to impress week in week out as the Alabama quarterback. This is his first year starting at the collegiate level and he has displayed some very nice traits that project to continue and carry over to the NFL. And I said this on our live show earlier before the mailbag. I think Ty Simpson reminds me a lot of Sam and I kind of like that comp because both can make plays happen with their legs and out of structure, but they thrive on maneuvering inside the pocket and being accurate down the football field. And there was a throw that encapsulates this perfectly for Ty Simpson this past Saturday against LSU. Under center play action, deep drop back. hits the back of his leg on that drop. There’s pressure coming from the right side. He puts two hands on the football, protects it, takes a step up, pass that rusher from the right side, gets his eyes downfield, stayed downfield the entire way, and fired a dark 25 yards down the field on a crosser in between three LSU defenders. Big game. Does he do that consistently? No. Is he still got a lot to grow with? Yes. But Simpson looks to be, I think, the most pro ready quarterback in this QB draft class. Do I think Fernando Mendoza has a higher ceiling? I do. I like his arm talent, the 65, the mobility from him. But there is more to like with Simpson right away than Mendoza. And there’s a world where Mendoza actually fails and Simpson works out. I like Tai Simpson. I still would take Mendoza over him. So to me, if you’re asking my QB rankings in order, I’m still going to have Mendoza 1, Simpson 2, probably Sellers three, Brendan Sorsby 4, and Dante Moore 5. Short form content and more posts on Instagram. Khan with a list of questions. Do you think McDaniel and Tu has saved their jobs with the win against Buffalo? Are you cool if they keep them? And how important is to keep Devon H in? We’ll answer all three in short order here. Do I think McDaniel and Tua saved their jobs win against Buffalo? No. Do I think it ultimately helped their case down the line? Yes. But one win in week 10 when you’re three and seven after the win doesn’t mean you are going to hold your positions next season. So not really thinking that changes. Am I cool if they keep their jobs? Well, Tua is going to be here next season because you’re not going to find anyone to take on his contract and you can’t really cut him until after 2026 and in the 2027 off season. So, he’s going to be here and I don’t think it’s the biggest thing in the world either. If you ultimately keep McDaniel for one year with Tua and have them bring the best out of each other this upcoming season and if they ultimately succeed and make the playoffs and win a game in the playoffs, okay, well then you have these two guys that you want to keep around again. But if they ultimately fail, which would probably be the most likely outcome, the new GM just fires them, hires a new head coach, and they draft a new quarterback in 2027. How important to keep Ham? He’s got one year left on his deal. He’s going to be a free agent in 2027. Now, it’s a tough thing to really talk about right now because should the Dolphins extend him? Yeah, because he’s a top three player on your team and he’s just 24 going to be 25 next year. But also, is this team in a position where they can spend $15 million per season on a running back? No, probably not. So, it’s one of those things where like you should prioritize keeping your good young talent, but you also don’t want to have to break the bank on a top five running back in football when your team needs you to allocate that money elsewhere like the secondary, offensive line, defensive line, which are bigger positions of need and value inside the NFL. AJ Ethan, if he’s available, would you take Caleb DS? Absolutely. I think Caleb DS is a top five player in this draft class. I felt very similar to that belief with Malachi Starks, the safety from Georgia who was drafted in the late teens, early 20s. I think it was early 20s by the Baltimore Ravens this past year. It’s just the same thing with running backs. Like safeties don’t have the highest value in the NFL to some GMs and coaches out there, but pound-for-pound, position for position, Downs is as good as there is anyone in this class. I think if you had to rank the top players non-QB in this class, I think number one in my opinion is Ruben Bane, the edge from Miami, but then you have a conversation about Spencer Fanu, the offensive lineman from Utah, Caleb DS from Ohio State, and um uh Jeremiah Love from Notre Dame, the running back. So, yeah, the Dolphins need a safety of the future. And if you’re sitting there picking like nine or 10 this year and Caleb DS is on the board, then yes, you just take best player available, which is the safety from Ohio State. I’m getting asked questions. Your turn to get asked a question. Dolphins are three and seven. Seven games left. How many games will the Dolphins win this year? What is their final record? Predict it for me down in the comment section. I’m going seven and 10. Gregory Turner, do you guys think Miami moves on from two next season if we make the playoffs and lose again? I assume you’re talking about 2027 and not this year. Uh, yes, I do. I do because I think the new head coach, or if it’s the same head coach, new GM, they know that these fans don’t care about making the playoffs anymore. They care about making the playoffs and winning games. The Dolphins made the playoffs in back-to-back years. Did it satisfy Dolphins fans? No. Because when you have the longest streak in the NFL without a playoff win, that is so draining on the fans. The Dolphins have not won a playoff game in 25 years. We have seen the Dolphins make the playoffs a handful of times. Three times in the last decade, 2016, 2022, and 2023. They lost all three of them. And I don’t think the fans will really attribute success with making the playoffs anymore. You either need to win the division and win a playoff game to secure your status with the Miami Dolphins. So Tua will be here next year in 2026. Will he be here in 2027? No, he will not. Even if they make the playoffs and lose, I think they ultimately move on from Tua because there’s so much proof in the pudding that he is not someone that can lead you to the promised land in the NFL because he has just way too many limitations. AKZ 941, how do you feel about the rookie Jason Barer Jr.? I think he stinks. Um, I said it when he was drafted and I know my guy Ruski got on me and uh then there was a lot of optimism and a lot of hype for Jason Marshall Jr. during the preseason and how he was going to be the starting nickel for this football team. Um he was very bad in the first month of the year. He was absolutely atrocious and then he gets hurt against the Bills out for four weeks and he ultimately hasn’t really returned to a position where he’s on the field consistently. Got a little bit of playing time against the Bills on Sunday. He was okay and limited snaps, but I would put him at CB4 on this team. I would rather play Rousul Douglas, Jack Jones, and Juju Brent other than Jason Marshall Jr. So, I don’t think he’s very good. I was critical of the pick at the time in the fifth round because I thought there were better players available. Um, the one that I really wanted to take is Dorian Strong, the corner from Virginia Tech, who was actually playing pretty well for the Bills, too, before he got hurt. Um, but yeah, I I don’t think he’s very good and I can’t put trust in him to be a part of this quarterback room of the future. Probably will be here next season, but beyond that, nothing’s guaranteed. Join the Dolphins community that is number one on YouTube. over 77,000 subscribers. We’ll be live on Thursday. His size played a good role when going against Keon Coleman. BR, he absolutely did. And uh we put out a video early Tuesday morning highlighting Keon Coleman’s absolute prison sentence by Guju Brent and how Brent might be a hidden gem and a rising star on this Dolphins team. 63 um former first second round pick out of Kansas State got a start for the first time and balled out against Buffalo. I mean can we show his stats here real quick? Um he was targeted five times and only allowed two completions for 12 yards and was a 47.9 QB rating when targeted. Also recovered a force fumble or a fumble and uh played really well in the run game as well. Like I’m pretty high on Ju Guu Brent. I mean he’s got great size, athletic, good mobility. I think this is a guy that should get more playing time. The issue is where do you play him because Jack Jones played real well against Buffalo as well. So it’s like are you going to bench Jack Jones? who’s been a starter all year. That seems pretty far-fetched. Are you going to bench Rous Douglas, who’s been a top 15 corner in football this year? That also seems pretty far-fetched. It’s not like any of those guys can play the slot. So, how does Juju Brent get on the field? I don’t know. I don’t envy the decision makers because I want to see him on the field, but I don’t know who you bench if you put him on the field for Rul Douglas or Jack Jones. Could also get Juju Brent on the field as a uh spot guy defending big wide receivers or uh tight ends. I think he could really excel in that role. Sante Samuel Jr. was cleared medically recently. Even if the Dolphins aren’t contending, should they take a flyer on him? I actually say no. And if you told me that Asante Samuel Jr. would still be a free agent um in August, that like he told me that he’d still be a free agent in August, in November. That makes sense. I would have said that you absolutely sign him because I wanted to sign him in the summer with how bad this quarterback room is. But with how the season has progressed, he’s not going to be better than S. Douglas, and I would want to still see what I have in Jack Jones and Juju Brent the rest of the year. So, the Dolphins I don’t think are going to sign him because he’s probably going to sign with a contending team. Uh, but I don’t even think I’d want to sign because like I said, I’d rather see what you have in Jack Jones, Drew Brent, and Jason Marshall Jr. the rest of the way than Asante Samuel Jr. But it also is intriguing in potentially signing him plays well and then you extend him next year as your CB1 because he certainly got that capability. MDW, other than coach and Tua, who does the team need to get rid of the most? Wow, that’s a great question outside of the coach and head quarterback. What player stinks the most? Is it so is it so early to say Jonah Savini already? guy is horrible. Yeah, Coupe, thanks for coming to my ear, man. Thanks for coming to my ear on that one. It’s Austin Jackson. And I’ve said that before. I can’t believe I didn’t think about that and answer it right away. I said it literally earlier this week that I’m personally preparing to move on from Austin Jackson. The right tackle for Miami is the biggest liability of all time. He never is on the football field and he’s not elite on the field enough to justify the headache of him consistently missing time. I’ve said this a couple times now. One of my biggest priorities this April’s draft is finding the next starting right tackle. Because in hypothetical terms, you have your starting left tackle the future in Patrick Paul. You have Aaron Brewer under contract another year. You have James Daniels under contract another two years. And maybe, just maybe, you give Jonah Savinia another shot next season at left guard because he still has three years left on his rookie contract. And you give him the start of 2026. It works out, cool. If it doesn’t, got a quick hook. But Austin Jackson should be moved on. And I’m preparing to move on from him. That’s why I say like if the Dolphins are drafting inside the top 10, I’m either going best player available or best offensive lineman. I’m probably either going like a Ruben Bane, Caleb DS, or one of Spencer Fanu, Kaden Proctor, Francis Magala. That’s kind of what I feel like. So, yeah, Austin Jackson is certainly my answer without a question. I’m mad at myself for not answering that right away. I’m glad Coop told me that that’s the right answer because it is. It is. 1. seriously Asante Samuel.. Move ON. Draft top 10 CB next year and develop! Stop w the moronic hypotheticals.. He had NECK!!! Surgery !!!! Do ppl on here actually know or have played (not flag or touch) Football ?

  2. I was at the Bama vs lsu game and was not impressed by ty Simpson. Yes, their receivers drop alot of passes but there was so many under and over thrown passes by Ty.

  3. I want a Qb that can run. He doesn’t have to be a running qb like Lamar but he has to be able to run a few yards. It completely limits your offense in what you can do and the defense prepares for this.

  4. Hopefully the new GM will focus on the OL. That would be nice seeing how the offense worked against Buffalo who has had problems with run D. With a better OL we would have more success against teams with better run Ds

  5. Miami need to trade 2nd , 3rd and a next year 2nd and 4th for a 2026 1st .
1st two picks MENDOZA & DE – BAIN or RT- MAUIGOA. It’s time to move on from Austin Jackson he keeps getting hurt.

  6. I said don't Re-sign Wilkins and Austin Jackson. Achane must be Re-signed. I wouldn't Re-sign Center Brewer because He will demand top 3 Center Money and He's a terrible Pass Blocker. Draft Alabama Center Parker Brailsford to replace Him. Brewer isn't a Free Agent this Off-Season but He is due a huge pay raise.
