DeBrusk, MacEachern & Adam Foote Post-Game Media | Canucks at Lightning (Nov 16, 2025)
the third period in this one especially you guys make an incredible comeback to grab this one six to2. What did you see from your team especially you know in that second half of the game? Yeah. Uh obviously different guys stepping up and contributing but uh resilient you know they were all over us in the first. We didn’t like how that was and um we wanted to come with a response in the second and the third just felt like everything was going in and uh you know we haven’t had one of those periods as a team. So uh it’s always exciting and um you know at the same point you you uh you know you take what how you got the goals and you kind of just go from there. But no, it was uh good to see some guys get some goals today. It was uh it was fun. Your 20th power play goal since the beginning of the 2024 25 season. What are you seeing out there that’s just working for you on the power play? Uh well, yeah. Um I don’t know. You know, I just go to the front of the net, try tip pucks, and um you know, obviously with players like uh Quinn at the top and uh Brock and Pey, um you know, it’s not necessarily a one-time power play. There’s just, you know, one-times coming from the flanks. It’s more so of shot tips and things like that. And I think that’s where I excel at. And um you got to get a little bit lucky. You got to um have a little bit of touch and um but yeah, obviously want to keep that going. I want to get more done five on five, but um you know, usually when I’m there and the puck’s there, good things happen. Quinn Hughes, you mentioned him there, returns to the lineup again tonight, and he gets four assists on the evening. I mean, you can just talk about the boost that he gives, but how big is that for the team? Yeah, he didn’t put money up on the board, actually. That’s a little sus. Uh but other than that, four apples. I mean, yeah. I mean, like I said, we needed a response after the first and as our leader, he uh he stepped his game up even more and um you know, just with different plays in the defensive zone, he was hard and um yeah, it’s funny. You don’t even know sometimes with him how many points he has at the end of the night, but uh makes sense how he contributed and um was taking uh you know, pace of play and all that. So, um can’t say enough good things about him, but uh it starts at the top. You your top guys got to be there and then uh you know, the rest of the team follows. What was the move to the room after the first period of being held in just one shot? Was it just the idea of we weathered a storm and now you know now we’d be able to kind of respond pretty well? Uh yeah I mean um yeah at the same point also there’s lots of frustration things like that when that happens but um you know we needed to kind of have a talk about ourselves um what kind of team we wanted to be. It’s one of those points where it just felt like it was a moment of the season. Obviously um you know Kevin our goalie gave us a great chance and um kept us in there for one after that period was positive on the road. Um but yeah, you just try to reset and also the same point just try to do the things you can the best that you can and um do it as a team and that’s what we saw lots of guys contributed. Well, it says that you got your first and your second goal of the season, but take us through the ones tonight that you saw. Was that Carlson? Was that you on the first one? What’ you say? Uh I just I kind of got the puck back there like a little back check and I saw Carly was there netfront just kind of chucked it there and knowing how he is as a player, he’s a great netfront player. So, I thought I just chuck it there and I haven’t seen him, but my guess is he probably got a tip on it because he seems like he gets a stick on everything. What did you see from the team tonight, especially in just that third period to come back and win this one 62. I think it speaks volumes of the the character in the room. Uh we didn’t like how we really played in Carolina and we we didn’t have a great start to the game today and the older guys and footy kind of gave us a message after the first that it’s it’s time to step up and see who we really are and I think we kind of answered the bell there which is good to see. Settling in in with this group, it seems like you’re now finding your rhythm. What has it just been like with this team? It’s been fun. A lot of a lot of good guys, a lot of great guys. Uh, obviously I was unfamiliar here and you’re at training camp for such a short time, so it’s hard to make relationships, but it’s it’s been fun. They they welcome me with open arms and I know SAS from home, which has kind of helped a lot. He’s kind of integrated me into the group, which has helped a lot. What’s the mentality of the room when you since you got a team on tilt like that like you had in the third period? Is it just continue to get pucks on the net just making things happen? Yeah, there’s a there’s a lot of motion obviously, so you have to kind of reinforce that we got to play the right way. the right way. It got us to that situation. So, we kind of have to keep doing that. Like you said, put pucks behind them and keep putting them on the net because that was kind of the recipe there to to kind of get a goal there in the third. I mean, what a comeback, especially just in that second half of the game. What did you see from your team? And what was kind of the biggest change? Well, you just had a slow start. I mean, it’s probably the toughest start we had. It happens. Uh, it’s going to happen. thought it was bound to happen because we’ve hit we’ve been playing pretty good hockey and um playing against a real disciplined team that plays a hard 113 that a lot of our players haven’t really seen it that that well played. It’s do a good job. I think it frustrated us and you have to skate when that happens and uh I like the adjustment our players made um the leaders and uh intermission because we came out as a different team and we had a couple big kills there. Dino was working hard on the kill with some new guys. I thought Bess and De Bruss jumped in and did a good job which they were big kills because they could have got to three nothing. It would have been a a tough tough one to get back from but in the lengths we stayed steady and we were resilient so we were able to you know get back in that one. It’s maybe a bit of an obvious statement to say that it’s a boost to get your captain back but then he comes in and grabs four assists on the evening as well. I mean what does that say about him? Yeah. And again, you know, he came back and, you know, he he’s trying to find it in the first and again that was a crazy like a really good system and I like the way Huggy uh felt it and got into it. He I think at first maybe he the first period he might have been holding on to it too long and um and then he he started get moving. He started to feel it and you saw what he did with it. He had a couple nice plays there on some goals. So it was nice to have him back for sure. down a goal after two and down a forward as well with just seven shots on goal. How were you guys able to generate the offense in your mind? Well, like I said, the first period we were just out of sorts and you got to give the leadership group credit that they were able to adjust and well go back to the game plan and I mean it happens and you know they had 12 shots and we were out of it and it was one- nothing and uh the good teams can can come from that where you don’t have you’re not going to feel good every night. there’s 82 games and and we were able to hang in there and then uh sort it out as we went and that’s a good sign. Seemed like a theme that you guys were getting a lot of traffic to the net and that’s what you kind of catch. Yeah. Yeah, we were. And they’re a real heavy swarm team and and uh we weren’t forchecking properly early. Uh they you know and once we what I mean by swarm is in in the corners we were getting caught and we were once we started kicking it out and then then it worked for us. We were able to get our offense going. What did you see from Mackenzie Mckenron since he’s been uh he’s been stiff. He’s he’s he’s a little bit older and and he’s heavy on pucks and um very disciplined in the system and the structure and uh you know it’s nice to see him have some success today. Anything on Garland? Uh just a little tweak there from the fight. I think uh I’m I hope it’s nothing serious but I don’t know for sure yet. I I think it’s, you know, just I don’t know the tweak where um from that battle
