BREAKING: Mets Free Agent Target Comes Off the Board… Are the Mets in Trouble? | Mets News

The off season just started and options are already dwindling for the New York Mets. I’m worried. [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] What’s going on Mets fans? Welcome back to another offseason edition of Metcast. I am Ryan. If you’re enjoying this content, make sure you like and subscribe, turn those notifications on so you never miss any of the Mets news that you need to know. And one thing we’ve reiterated time and time again. And from our guests we’ve had on this podcast, we expect this off season to move way quicker than it did last year. If you don’t remember, last off season was so contingent on where Juan Soda was going to sign, whether it was the Dodgers, Mets, Yankees, Red Sox, Blue Jays, and everybody else held their chips back, waiting for that chip to fall. And today, we just got some big news that could affect our New York Mets. Let’s give it a look. So, here we have it. Breaking from Jeff Passen. First baseman Josh Naylor and the Seattle Mariners are finalizing a five-year contract extension. Sources familiar with the deal tell ESPN the first major free agent to sign this winter goes back to Seattle where he has where he was beloved after joining the Mariners in the deadline trade. And I’ll tell you one thing, this could impact the Mets tremendously. Tremendously, guys. What are the fallback options we spoke about for Pete Alonzo? There’s really two options. There’s Well, you have Pete first. It was Josh Naylor. And then you’re hearing talks around MLB suggesting the Mets may throw Vientosa McNeel at first base. That would drive me nuts because that would signal another retool. when we were told by so many in the Mets organization, Steve Cohen coming out saying he knows how us Met fans feel, how he needs to or the team in general needs to be better. He tweeted his tweet out, he spoke, he let us know he felt how we felt. He knows how we feel. And to see Josh Naylor come off the board worries me because now Pete Alonzo’s market just went up and you have the rumors out there. The Mets already made their first offer to Pete. Nobody knows exactly what it is, but the rumors have it around 3 years. Maybe that’s just a starting point, but it scares me. Boston reporters are out there saying that that they’re going to be in on him, and there’s several other teams that are potentially going to be in on Alonzo because of that power, because of what he did last year. If the Mets end up losing Pete Alonzo and they’re not able to pivot to another big ticket, what worries the hell out of me is what happened last season. Last season, the Pete Alonzo drama dragged out for so long. Imagine he did go to Toronto and we didn’t sign him where we would have been last year where Sodto gets walked every single time at bat and Pete made teams pay. That was huge for us last year. And you may have Pete plus other options. The only other option on the market for me in my opinion, legitimate option maybe be Cody Bellinger, but I think that’s an absolute pipe dream. Guys like BT and all the Yankee reporters suggest that there he’s going to return to the Yankees. The Yankees are going to get the final say when it says to Bellinger, not like Juan Sodto. Last year, a lot of teams were under the conception that Juan Sodto would take any deal that he got and go back to the Yankees to give them the final offer to see if they could top it. Turns out that wasn’t the truth. But from everything we’re hearing, that’s what’s gonna happen with Cody Bellinger. So, the Yankees are gonna allow him to go out there, set his own market, dare I say, use the Mets, which I don’t want to happen. How many times have we heard that throughout the years, this so- and so, so and so is just simply using the New York Mets to drive up the price, but that’s the only other option. I don’t see that as a realistic option. So, right now, it’s Pete Alonzo or Bus. Now, you have the other options out there if you want to say, “Well, we lose Pete Lonzo, but we’re going to go pursue a Kyle Tucker.” Yeah, okay. We could have that conversation, but I simply don’t see the Mets going out there and giving out $400 million. The Chicago Cubs are a team that we’ve seen in the past pay their guys. They pay their guys. They they build teams. They built the World Series. They spent a lot of money and now they’re going to trade for a guy like Kyle Tucker, give up significant assets, and even they say they’re not be able to afford him. I think at the end of the day, he’s probably going to be a Dodger. But that’s what scares the hell out of me. This market’s moving and it’s moving quick and I am scared the Mets may get so held up and Pete Alonzo other options start to come off the table and then all of a sudden we’re stuck at the altar looking back saying, “Oh my gosh, Pete Alonzo is now on the table. The only guy left and there really are no trade targets that I could think of out there that the New York Mets could potentially trade for to cover first base. Pete wants a lot of money. Scott Boris already said he’s looking for seven years and the Mets are simply not going to give it to them, especially if they’re starting out at three. They’re not going to go from 7 to three. It’s simply just not happening. They might go to four. May I say five? I’m not totally sure on that, but the Mets are not going seven. And maybe there’s another team out there that will. And that’s all I got for you guys today. Let me know if you’re worried. Are you worried about Naylor? What do you think about the initial supposed offer to Pete Alonzo of simply three years them negotiating Edwin Diaz? I expect a lot of traction over the next couple of days and I will keep you up to date in regard to all things New York Mets. So don’t forget to smash that like button, subscribe, turn those notifications on so you never miss any of the New York Mets that you need to know. As always, let’s go Mets. God bless. [Music]

  1. Pete’s Getting Paid no two ways around it. Steve is going to have to pony up the dough. If naylor can get 5 years at 90-100 million Pete’s getting 150 Plus as he should

  2. Pete’s gonna be the signal if the Mets are going to be under 500 or not. They lose him we’re in a rookie rebuild year. That simple. If we thought Soto looked miserable last year at times wait and see how it looks with no protection for Soto. Disaster waiting to happen. Give him 5 get it done and build this team. Stop Playing games.

  3. Ray, I’m convinced Stearns and Cohen know exactly who and what it will take to sign who they want. We got Soto because they wanted him. We didn’t want Naylor, he’s a light hitting, decent glove first baseman. So what, five years? McNeil won’t see a day at first base let alone being on the team. Just my take, but the Mets are in the driving seat. No one will ever outspend Cohen if Cohen wants someone again. I really think we need a legit lead off hitter, someone to protect Juan, Pete and Francisco Lindor. That’s my opinion. Could be wrong. But these Mets won’t be outbid. Keep the content coming.

  4. Ray, this is going to be a lost year. Ive posted multiple times last year that I was concerned the Mets wouldnt do anything after Soto. They are going to lock themselves into Pete again just like last year. If they dont make major moves, this team wont do anything.

  5. News flash!!! 2026 will be a bad year for Met fans. No one wants to use the word "rebuild" but what else would you call it? They are more than just a few tweaks away from being good. Major overhaul for the dumpster fire of 2025.

  6. yes i have a feeling this off season will be FAST and FURIOUS – Naylor would had been a good pick up but still not panicking. I think like the SF Giants and Eldridge, the Mets CLIFFORD should be given a chance to make the team, a lot like Pete wasn't expected to make the team when he debuted.

  7. Great video again my brother and you are right about everything. If I owned the Mets I would fire Carlos Mendoza and HIRE YOU TO REPLACE HIM BECAUSE YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR SAYING AND DOING. I think the Mets maybe should move on from Alonso and Diaz to shake up the Corp and rebrand around lindor and obviously Juan Soto

  8. NOT WORRIED AT ALL! There are so many ways they can replace Pete. For example, Arraez at first and trading for Katel Marte to play second base, would cost around the same thing as what Pete is about to get and I can make the argument. They're a better team by having those two guys.
