Seahawks’ Sam Darnold throws four interceptions in loss to Rams | Pro Football Talk | NFL on NBC

All right, showdown in the NFC West that was confined to the 4:05 p.m. Eastern regional window. Another one that could have been sent to Thursday. Bills Bucks could have gone to Thursday and Seahawks Rams could have gone to Monday, but uh nevertheless, the Rams pull off the victory 21 to 19 despite another another chariot to pumpkin performance by the great Sam Darnold, grandson of former Marbor man who went by the name of Dick Hammer. Yes, it is. Not good. Not good for Darnold Jester. Not good. I I feel bad in a way because this is going to become a narrative again, right? It’s going to become a thing. Now, it’s his own doing. So, and he’s a big boy. I know that. But yeah, this is this is going to overtake a little bit of the theme of the Seahawks and how good of a football team they are. You know, the last two times he’s seen the Rams, right? Wildcard game last year. This game here, it ain’t been good. And that’s a bad interception. again under pressure in that moment. Kind of fading away. Not good. Here. Same thing. Under pressure. The Rams front got in his face, but not good. This a total bad decision. I don’t think he saw him. I don’t know. But and then again, you see the pressure and then just trying to dump it off. But it’s it’s it’s you’re playing a different caliber of a football team here. The Rams are really well coached. They got team speed on the defensive side of the ball. The game’s a little chaotic. You know, it’s a game maybe where you just got to every now and then go, “Oh, I’m not going to throw that. I’m going to take a sack or I’m going to throw it away.” But with all of that, four interceptions, right, and everything there, the Eag I mean, the Seahawks kind of controlled the football game. They were the They were the better team on the football field. And I’m not saying they’re better than the Rams because, you know, and you’re you’re with me. I mean, I think the Rams can win the Super Bowl, but you talk about other than the first two drives of the game, and really the one drive was set up by the interception, a three-y touchdown drive, the Rams only had one legit drive of the football game. Time of possession, clock, all that from second quarter on, everything was dominated by the Seahawks except the turnover margin, and that cost them. And that’s something that, yeah, they’re going to have to recalibrate in that department. Yeah. Uh, Darnell now has 10 interceptions on the season. He’s third in the league behind Tua with 13 and Gino Smith with 12. And you’re right, they still had a chance to win it. The Rams held tough. The Rams got the victory. They take control for now of the NFC West. And the real question for me with Darnold, and look, Ernest Jones IV had a passionate defense by Darnold, including a couple of fbombs. And I I think that’s great. But here’s the reality. We’ve seen this now. And it’s a far better narrative than chasing ghosts or seeing ghosts or whatever it was. It seeing ghost it uh it’s a situation where Darnold plays very well in the low pressure to mid-press games. But when the brights are the the brights are the lightsism, the brights of the lights are there. when the lights are the brightest, when the lights are the brightest and the pressure is the highest, that’s when it it doesn’t work. And we saw it week 18. That’s where it started last year against the Lions. We saw it in the playoff game, although that was a total team team failure. And now we see it again in the biggest game of the year, the most consequential outcome so far, right? We saw it happen. And they’ve got three winnable games coming up. And then they’ve got a Sunday, Thursday Colts, Rams turnaround. Both games at home, Thursday night game. That’s Sunday and Thursday, week 15 and 16, I believe it is. That’s critical. And we’ll see. We’ll see when he gets another opportunity. He’s the one that’s got to change this narrative. Yeah, that’s right. And that’s the problem with these narratives that with each passing game, it becomes more of a talking point. So if they do win the next three, as they should, they should win each of the next three games. Colts Rams week 1516. It’s going to be more than ever. Can you avoid Yeah. not playing as well as you have? I’m trying to be tackful here and not say anything that should get bleeped, but can you avoid that outcome when we have these huge games? Because after that, they’ve got two winnable games. Not the Panthers are slouches this year, but Colts Rams are the two big games the rest of the way. What’s Sam Darnold going to do the next time he has that opportunity. That’s all that Seahawks fans and anyone else is going to be thinking about. Yeah, I you I I hear you. We’re all going to be thinking about that. We’re all going to be watching it and it’s going to be on him to to change that narrative and like you said, the team’s got his back. He’s done a lot of really good things, but I think there’s maybe some lessons to be learned there about big game football and like you’re talking about when you’re playing the teams that are in the upper echelons, there’s just certain plays and things you’re not going to get away with that you might with other football teams. you might have to dial it in just a little bit on being so aggressive. The thing we’ve praised Sam Darnold, the the Seahawks offense for in so many ways is, hey, they try to make plays. They push the ball down the field. He’s one of the league leaders in yards per attempt. So, they’re scary that way. But when you play a defense where you go, oh wait, they’re around me a lot and they’re really fast in the back end and all that, sometimes it’s okay to just throw it away or take the sack and do that. And I think that’s what he’s got to learn here a little bit. just like the Lions or the Rams in the playoffs game last year. It’s just you’re not going to get away with some of the plays you might have got away with against the Arizona Cardinals or some of the lesser teams that you’ve played on your schedule. And I think that’s where he’s still a little young in that process. Even though he’s been around the NFL, he hasn’t played in many big games. And I think that’s something maybe the last piece of the puzzle puzzle. He has to learn how to play that way. Hi, it’s Mike Florio. Thanks for watching PFT on YouTube. 1. That first interception was completely Sams fault. There wasn't a receiver open, and he threw the ball directly to a defender. He was so worried about being sacked he just threw the ball. Terrible play and shouldn't have happened if he wasn't affected by spotlight pressure. The Rams have his number, and he better study the films hard.

  2. No talk about how the Rams D DOMINATED the Seahawks. You know why Darnold sucked? Cause the Rams D got after him. Total defensive game. Bit have good defenses. Rams D is just better.

  3. Should have run the ball more early. Then play action with shorter, quick passes. Kubiak and Macdonald need to ride Darnold this week about throwing it away. Ball needs to come out faster against stiff top-tier defenses.

  4. It certainly frustrating seeing Sam give this game away but it’s encouraging that with so many turnovers in so many key spots we had a chance at the end even though Myers is solid I knew he had no shot making a 61 yard field goal

  5. Anyone trying to write this off as a fluke for Sam has never watched any of his games before his run with the Vikings. He is extremely prone to the yips, and once he starts, he is a Pringles can of turnovers.

  6. That was a fuckin heart breaker… And still, with 5 Freebies in their hands, the rams almost lost to a field goal kick… Imagine fewer, or no interceptions… A clean game… we would have marched them backwards all afternoon…

  7. “The better team on the football field”…that never once led the game.

Shula played shell coverage and a light box. Of course Seattle was gonna get their yards. But they couldn’t get the yards when and where it actually mattered.

Fantasy football has broken people’s brains.

  8. Ram's almost lost this game. Seahawks were the better team. Darnold has to eat the ball and not throw an interception's simple as that. Witherspoon has to slap him around.

  9. Darnold can't get out of the pocket and run for a few years like other QB's can. Thats just one thing yes but its a huge thing cause hes forced to pass more and hence…. 4 INTs

  10. Yet no one talked about how close the game was still and that they still almost won in the end … all they see is the 4 interceptions . We still almost won with 4 interceptions … what does that say?

  11. the sam led vikings lost 27-9 to the rams last year. this game ended 21-19 off of a failed field goal attempt. it was super close. if just one more small thing out of dozens of things had gone in the seahawks favor, they probably win this game. sam does need to play better tho.

  12. Hawks fan here. Yesterday's game was so disturbing that I'm seeing a priest and a therapist this afternoon. I need to pretend that yesterday was their Bye Week!

  13. I love how some Seahawks fans are hitting everyone with the “even with 4 picks it was close” argument.💀 Was it not the rams defense that was catching those picks? Was the offense not playing with a lead for the entirety of the game? The Rams were confident in their defense. The Seahawks were not. Plain and simple.🤷🏻‍♂️

  14. Lol. What is this dude talking about? The seahawks have 1 touchdown and a lot of field goals. It means they their offense is not good and they are not the better team on the field. They have the ball a lot of time but it doest mean they are better. 😂😂😂 crap take.

  15. If seahawks dont clean up the turnovers they will not make it far in the playoffs. They have been turning the ball over all year thats not gonna slide against good teams
