Could The Flames And Leafs Make A BLOCKBUSTER Trade?? Ft. TSN’s Darren Dreger | FN Barn Burner

drags, our buddy uh up the road here, Jay Rosill, former Leaf, does uh the Leaf stuff with our network, put out a thing earlier this morning saying he’s hearing about Rasmus Anderson, that the Leafs are working to bring in Anderson. This is probably not I’m sure this is probably to some extent been Did he hear that with his alumni jacket on when he I don’t know at the game the other night in the alumni suite eating the free dinner and and all that. There’s perks. There’s not many, but there are some perks for sure. Well, look, I mean, in the moment, um, I mean, look, you guys know how Brad Trilling operates, and you know, he he makes hundreds of calls a year, and that’s probably underestimating the reality of what he does. I can tell you with certainty that he thought they were close on Arasmus Anderson trade at the trade deadline last year. And maybe it was Calgary Craig Conroy that decided, okay, we’re going to back away for a different, you know, whatever. I mean, they still held out hope that there was a deal that they could extend him with. They were looking at other opportunities. U didn’t love the idea of sending him to Toronto and watching him every Saturday night, blah blah blah, that sort of stuff. I don’t know. But I do know that they spent a lot of time on trying to acquire Anderson. At that point, it falls through. Now they’ve got a punt and they turn to the Boston Bruins and give up, you know, a decent prospect in Fraser Mittton and a first round draft pick for Brandon Carlo. Uh so it wouldn’t surprise me at all. And anybody who spent 10 minutes watching the Maple Leafs play this year, it’s not all about the defense. It’s how they play as a team defensively that is no good this year, right? That’s not all on on the defensive core. It really isn’t. Um, you know, but you can tell that they’re playing a little bit scattered. You know, McCabe doesn’t look as confident as he normally is. No, Chris Taniff, he’s hurt. Um, and and no no real word on when he’s coming back. That’s a big loss defensively. Brandon Carlo, I don’t know, man. He just doesn’t have it this year. And on and on and on it goes. But let me ask you guys again. If you couldn’t acquire Rasmus Anderson at the trade deadline, how are you getting them now less than 20 games into the season or, you know, at any point in the near future? Because you you don’t have to be a Toronto Maple Leafs guru to look at what they don’t have. Yeah, they don’t have really anything coming. They’ve got Ben Danford, who’s a real good young Ontario Hockey League defenseman. They’ve got Eastston Cowan who’s a decent enough forward and they’ve got a first round draft pick in 2028. They don’t have 26 and they don’t have 27. Yeah. So, if you’re Craig Connor, you know who you’re asking for? You’re asking for Matthew Ny or you’re asking for something like that, you know, provided that does Ethan Cowan not move the needle in a in a move like that? I like him. He’s a good young player, but I mean I it it if you’re Toronto now, you have to be sure. Like obviously a contract extension would have to be part of it. And and what does that look like from Anderson’s perspective? I I I don’t know. I mean, you got to get into that equation. Um he’s already turned down a deal that included that, right? Yeah. East Cow would have to be part of it. You know, like again, I’m not being a smartass. is if it’s not Matthew Ny or a or or or a good young legit NHL player, what is it? And and Conroy might have pressure from above to say no, like we’re not throwing in the towel here. It’s too early to do that. We need legit NHL players if you’re trading Rasmus Anderson right now. So Eastston Cow and and Ben Danford, I mean, they might be a part of a future, but if you’re trading Anderson anytime soon, maybe that’s the acknowledgement, okay, we’re a last place team in the National Hockey League. We’re we’re pushing the 20 game plateau here, and it doesn’t look like it’s getting better, so maybe it is time to cut bait. I I just think that’s a tough that’s a tough sell for management to ownership for me at this stage. Yeah. Are they chasing it? Wow. This Leafs thing is with the goalending situation like they’re and like you talk if they don’t win now, what how are they I mean I guess you can always trade someone to recoup some of these assets to help out and build again, but boy the cupboard’s getting pretty bare. Really bare. Yeah. And and that’s the unfortunate reality. I mean, you know, we conjure these things up as we’re sitting and and, you know, we’re we’re off air and we’re getting ready for pregame and leaf intermissions and and all of that. It does feel like if Toronto misses the playoffs this year, especially if they miss the playoffs, but if they get punted in the first round again, that there is going to have to be some form of about face. What does that look like? Um, you know, you you can’t hang the blame on Mitch Mner anymore. So, are you looking at Morgan Riley? Again, full trade protection. Um, would you do the unthinkable and look at Knander or potentially Austin Ma Matthews? Can’t imagine, but stranger things have happened. What do you do when you’re in that predicament? So, they’re not having those conversations yet, but I I I can’t remember. I’d like to give credit to the website or the the account that posted this on social media, but I I think going into tonight, Toronto has a 22% chance of making the playoffs and a 1% chance of winning the Stanley Cup. How they formulate those numbers, I don’t know. But that doesn’t bode well for Brad Kurling and the Leafs at this point. Hey buddies, thanks for watching. We appreciate it. Also, if you could throw in a like and subscribe, it does help us out with what it is we are doing. And check out more at flamesnation.ca.

Boomer and Rhett are joined by TSN’s Darren Dreger as they react to a report from their buddy Jay Rosehill, who says the Toronto Maple Leafs are very interested in acquiring Flames defenseman Rasmus Andersson. Dreger adds the Leafs believed they had a deal done for Andersson last year — but it fell through. The guys dive into what happened, how close it really got, and whether Toronto could take another swing at Andersson this season.

  1. If they trade knies I'm sorry but I'll be done watching this team. Knies for a fucking 29 year old MEDIOCRE defensemen is a horrible horrible just horrible move. I would much rather take it on the chin this season and miss the playoffs and reset like so many teams seem to before they reach the promised land.

  2. Leafs need to ask Nylander and Reilly to wave no trade. The culture is weak pouters with no grit. This is fact. The leafs will not win with these 2 in lineup. They will do well elsewhere on a team with guys who will rip them a new one when they get bratty.

  3. That Carlo trade looks terrible. I am shocked at how soft Carlo plays. The trades for Carlo and Laughton have not aged well. It's time to quit giving up picks and prospects.

  4. Matthews and Nylander and Reilly should be traded to replenish this team with good young players and picks…but not by Brad…brad sucks as a gm. We got taken soooooo bad by Boston…so bad.

  5. Mathew knies for Anderson trade will never happen unless tree is really drunk and does that trade LOLDregs is stoned to even suggest that crap. The trade would involve one of the Leafs roster defenders like Simon Benoit and then a conditional draft pick and just to be clear if Calgary wants a forward it will be Bobby McMann not Knes and then your talking about Kadri coming back in the deal. I think that deal sounds more real McMann and Benoit for Andersson and Kadri. Don’t even talk about Knies unless Calgary is offering some first round draft picks in the deal.

  6. This narrative that Tree is on everything is total BS. Is making a call in on everything? Anyone who can’t acknowledge that the Leafs are much closer to a rebuild than a cup contender are fools. No pipeline, no 26 or 27 1st. What a terrible GM.

  7. Anderson is free agent and we are not giving away Cowan or Danford or anything good prospect. Of course we can trade Knies but for all the players from CGY team.

  8. My question is is Treleving that useless that all he can do is go to his past team for trades . I thought he was league aware . He’s in a small bubble . No wonder he’s failing miserably .

  9. Saying it is not about the defense goes to show Dregs doesn't understand that, like a car that can't run without gas, a team does not run without a defense that gets forwards the puck

  10. If Little Caesar’s pizza franchise were run by NHL player agents Darren Dreger would by that guy outside dressed up as a pizza slice twirling a Today’s Deal sign.

  11. It was a known fact he was building a different team than the one couldn’t win in the playoffs offs – it may take longer to get the players to buy into the coaches systems

  12. Dreger is deranged. Click bait shiite of which I am guilty of falling for. I just saw Knies photo and I thought WTF? I hope to hell Treliving has more sense than making a trade like that.

  13. Jeebuzz deliver me from the evil of this idea. This would be worse than the Decarlo/Minten plus a first trade. I like the dman but for Knies is a no way unless Calgary throws in a first.

  14. You get him now because Calgary needs to refurbish the team. So they ARE and should be selling off….but Kardi should stay regardless as he is a solid player with experience
