“I’m In A Good Place Now” | Josh Norris After Returning To Practice From Injury | Buffalo Sabres

Yeah, obviously it was uh definitely a step to escape the team today. Um so yeah, it just indicates that I’m feeling pretty good. Do you feel like you’re ahead of schedule from maybe what you originally thought? Yeah, I do. What, you know, it’s no fun to be injured, but how do you kind of make the most of the time? Not just the recovery, but really preparing for your return to the ice. And what do you do with all that time? Um I mean there’s really only one thing you’re focusing on is getting back to play. So, um, yeah, days are, um, they’re pretty boring. You just, um, yeah, try to get stronger and take care of your body as much as you can, um, and just use the time that you have to, to build your body back up. So, that’s what I’ve been focusing on. When you made that hit, did you know right away something was wrong? Uh, yeah. I mean, I can’t even imagine your head. I mean, because you worked so hard over the summer and everything and here it is game one. I mean, h mentally, how do you stay positive and focused? Yeah, obviously um was tough going through that. Um come here and um just wanted to get off to a really good start and um seems like forever ago, but preseason I thought we um you know, I got my game going and was feeling really good and um you know, sometimes things happen that you don’t really understand. Um, and I think that was, you know, just a fluke thing and, um, unfortunately it’s part of the game and and, um, you have to live with that. So, um, yeah, just control what you can and um, definitely some tough days for sure, but um, yeah, you just got to keep going. What’s that, sir? What’s your support system? Um, I think that’s what your family’s for, for sure. And then obviously the guys in this room. Um yeah, just checking in on me and and um you know, obviously the medical staff too spent a lot of days and a lot of hours with those guys. Um so just building relationships with them and um yeah, I mean I think you just got to lean on the people that you’re around. I think it’s so important to have that. Um but you know, there’s still some tough days for sure. No matter um you know who’s around you, you’re going to you’re just going to go through tough days. Um, yeah, I’ve stuck with it with it and and uh I’m in a good place now. Is today just a big day just because you’re around these guys, you’re on the ice with these guys now. I mean, that has to change your outlook automatically, doesn’t it? Yeah, I’m getting pretty tired skating by myself. That uh that’s it’s fun at the start because you’re excited to get back and then um yeah, it’s just, you know, part of the whole rehab process and um you know, kind of got past that part a little bit. So hopefully um yeah, just keep you know being with the team and obviously also skate on my own. Um but yeah, definitely um good for good for me mentally to be out there today. Is this one of those where you might have to like guard against jumping back out there too soon or once you’re healed, do you think you’ll just kind of be good to go? No, when I’m back I’m I’m back. Um you can’t tiptoe your way into this lead. it’s uh it’s too strong and it’s too fast and um if you’re playing then um yeah, you better be ready to go. So, how I look at it. You think maybe by the end of the weekend or something you could be or is that still too soon? Uh I don’t know. I don’t want to get into timelines. Um I’m just taking it day by day right now. You mentioned, you know, some of the guys reaching out, checking on you and stuff. How much do you kind of learn about the teammates you have because you’re still pretty new here and um you know, can kind of be a way for them to show you the type of guy they are when when they’re there for you in a moment like this. Um yeah, I mean obviously I haven’t been here too long. Um but we have a great room, guys that are um good people and good humans and care a lot. So um yeah, to have their support means a lot.
