“Interestingly, the pass that looked like Purdy’s easiest of the afternoon — a 9-yard score to an all-by-himself McCaffrey in the second quarter — highlighted his smarts and instincts. As McCaffrey ran to the sideline he pointed to Purdy and then pointed his right index finger at the side of the helmet. The message: That took brains.

“That wasn’t the play,” McCaffrey explained.

McCaffrey was supposed to run a different route on a play on which he was what Juszczyk termed a “last-ditch outlet.” But he changed course mid-play when he recognized that he’d been dropped in coverage. As McCaffrey broke outside, freelancing, he raised both hands and Purdy moved off his primary reads. McCaffrey caught the pass at the 4-yard line and jogged into the end zone.”

  1. Thanks for sharing. I noticed the temple tap and was wondering what went down. Love to see it!

  2. The first TD to George also looked like Brock changed the play at the line after seeing the coverage.

  3. Ah, no wonder that CMC TD seemed to take a beat or two longer to hit. I genuinely thought Brock was so shocked at how open he was, Brock might’ve done a double take before passing it.

  4. > “Um,” McKivitz said, smiling, “we scored a lot of touchdowns.”

    No thanks to you, bum.

  5. Dude it was one game against one of the worst teams in the NFL. He balled out just like we thought he would, this is not news.

  6. It’s so good to see some level headed takes on the situation after hearing for 10 weeks about a “QB controversy” that started the second Purdy was injured. Purdy takes this offense to a higher level than Mac. I felt like I was taking crazy pills reading about how Mac should start and Purdy should be the backup or get traded…
