Celtics Receive A BUNCH OF MAJOR NEWS On Jordan Walsh, Anfernee Simons & More

[Music] Your Boston Celtics are seven and seven. As a matter of fact, they actually have a top 10 offense and a top 10 defense through 14 games of the 2526 NBA season. I did not expect that and I found myself wondering how. And we’re going to explain how and why on today’s show. We got some major news on a couple of players that have contributed to this star for Boston. we’re going to break down in just a moment here on Celtics Today. All right, we got to talk about three players who absolutely balled against the LA Clippers as your bosses at least won 121 to 118. Nearly choked this game away. They were up multiple possessions in the final minute, but James Harden went absolutely stupid. We’ll break down his performance in a second. We’ll also talk about Jaylen Brown, who is just dazzling so far this season. Another 30-point performance for from him. It was on 33 shots, though. Peyton Pritchard seems to be finding his groove again, shooting the basketball at a high clip. He put in a 30 ball against LA. And then Jordan Walsh. Yes, didn’t necessarily light up the box score. Did have eight boards, but he is really really ascending here in this Celtics rotation. Let’s talk about James Harden, though, because he almost sent this game to overtime. Had a Christian Lightneresque uh pass back from Iviku Zubach in the closing seconds and almost got a three to go down. That would have sent this game to extra time. But the reason I bring up James Harden and his 37 point performance, it wasn’t all that efficient, by the way, is because of who had the defensive assignment most frequently on James Harden for this Celtics team. That was Jordan Walsh. And I thought he did a fantastic job. Did allow Harden to get to the free throw line five times and one of them was on a crucial three-pointer in the closing minutes. But overall, Jordan Walsh had three steals in this game. All three were against James Harden. And this isn’t he’s no stranger to guarding stars so far this season. Harden is just the latest in his victim list. Jordan Walsh had this to say about guarding the beard. He said he’s different than anybody I’ve guarded so far. Usually everybody else, I’m pressing up into him. I’m getting deflections on ball steals and stuff. For him, it’s kind of like I’ve got to give him his space just because if he goes up and shoots it, if I even look like I’m touching him, it’s going to be a foul. So, just kind of increasing my urgency and level of discipline. And for games like this in particular, for guys like that in particular, well, guys like that in particular, he has had the assignment of so far this season. James Harden is the recent member of a long list of top players that the Celtics and Joe Missoula have deployed Jordan Walsh against so far this year. And keep in mind, Jordan Walsh is a guy who was getting DNPs for two, three years into his NBA career. And now he’s out there getting assigned to James Harden, who does score 17 points on him, but that’s on three of seven shooting. did allow him get to the line a bunch, but I’m fine with that performance against James Harden. He also created three turnovers off the beard as well. I mean, look back to a couple games ago against Tyrese Maxi guarding him for six minutes and a lot of that was again the fourth quarter of the ball game that the Celtics ended up eating out. Hold him one of nine from the field is just disgusting. Didn’t have as great of a time against Pala Ben Carara, but again, a guy that he was tasked against in the fourth quarter. He also did a great job against France Vagner in that game, one of four. He held Fron too. And then Jiren Jackson Jr. he just had in a straight jacket 0 of5 from the field in less than four minutes defending him. So Jiren Jackson Jr. thought he had an absolute mismatch and Jordan Walsh he was sadly mistaken. It has been awesome to see the maturation and ascension of Jordan Walsh here in the Celtics rotation. Man, he’s getting praise from Jaylen Brown who did also say that there’s room to improve upon as well deciding the free throws that Harden was able to get off of him. Pton Pritchard is praising him as well. Joe Mazula is praising him and he’s also trusting him a ton through these matchups that he’s given him, through these times that he’s he’s matching him up against these stars because a lot of these Jordan Walsh big time minutes are coming down the stretch of these ball games in the fourth quarter. Closing games for the Boston Celtics like he did against the LA Clippers. It’s been awesome. He’s a guy who’s on a $2 million contract. A player that we have been praying would develop on this Celtics back end of the rotation and we’re finally seeing it now. Hopefully this means he’s going to be a part of this team for uh the long run and he’s going to be a cheap option behind JB and JT in the future. With that being said, I bring it up. Has Jordan Walsh already secured and earned his team options about $2.5 million for the 2627 season next year? Why for yes and for no? What do you guys think? Has Jordan Walsh earned it or does he still have a little bit more left to prove? All right, let’s talk about Peyton Pritchard a little bit because speaking of finding a groove, speaking of ascending, we’re seeing Peyton Pritchard finally kind of get comfortable in this starting point guard role for your Boston Celtics with the jumper because yes, he’s going to have to facilitate more. He’s averaging a career-high five assists so far this year, but he’s also got to continue to be that scorer that he’s better for the Celtics team. You know, the the guy that he was when he won six man of the year last season, and he wasn’t through the first 12 games of the season. 22 of 86 from three is brutal. like real bad. 25.6% bad. Now the past two games he seemed to find that groove once again shooting over 55% from long range. 13 of 23. I mean that’s that’s ridiculous. I he was I believe eight of 10 in one of the games and then five of 13 in the other. Like or maybe it was vice versa. Eight of 13 and then uh five of 10. Regardless, this guy is shooting high volume threes. Seems like he’s got the confidence back. And why is it now that he he’s suddenly shooting the ball at such a high cliff compared to the first 12 games? It’s not like this is a, you know, October to April kind of change in in in in shooting efficiencies here. What what was the quick fix? Peyton Pritchard discussed it saying this. He said, “I feel like I consider myself a good shooter.” I do as well personally. And he said, “You’re always searching how to be better at shooting. Sometimes I overcomplicate my form and trying to overcorrect everything and I got to get and I got in the habit of doing that the first 10 games of overthinking every step how I want my form to look.” The last two games I’ve kind of just said, “F it. I’m just going to shoot it. One motion, I’m just gonna let it fly and don’t worry about the form. All the work should carry it. So, that’s kind of been my mindset that I should continue with that. I mean, Pton Pritchard is a guy who has shot probably what, close to a million basketballs in his career through 20 something years of playing the game. Like, this guy has shot the ball a ton. Uh, I know you always want to get better at shooting. You always want to find that extra, you know, alteration in your shot that could make you that much more efficient. But Peyton Pritchard just stop once you stop thinking about it, the shot’s going to go in a whole heck of a lot more. This is a guy who is notorious for half court heaves. You think he’s thinking about his shot form when he’s throwing it up from 45 ft out? No. He’s just letting that thing fly and he did that over the past two games. And of course, you know, he he’s talking about this alteration to the form and all that stuff, but I think there’s other things at play as well. He has more responsibility this season than he’s had in his entire career. A higher usage rate than he’s had in his entire career. No Jason Tatum to bring the ball up anymore. No Drew Holiday to bring the ball up anymore. It’s you. It’s Derek White. And it’s Jaylen Brown. And that is just a position that Payton Pritchard just hasn’t been in as a Celtic so far. And I I think he’s finally becoming more and more comfortable in that spot. Now, coming up next, we’re going to get more news on Anthony Simons. Anthony Simons, not the type of uh box score outlook that uh Jaylen Brown or Peyton Fcher or even Derek White or Neimius Kada had against Clippers. No. Donuts across the board for Simons here. This is kind of looking to become a trend. It doesn’t look like Joe Missoula is too fond of Anthony Simons. He ended up in the previous game against the I believe this Memphis Grizzlies going two for 10 from the field. And what did Anthony Simons come into the Celtics roster as? A guy who could just go get buckets, go get volume buckets as well. Well, he hasn’t been shooting that great all too all too well lately. And if Anthony Simons can’t shoot the basketball, Joe Mazula won’t play him. Like they’re you you can’t be bad at the one thing that you’re build to be good at because when you’re a really atrocious defender and then you’re not giving it you’re all on that end a lot of the times, um it it doesn’t really do much for you you getting extra minutes on this Celtics team. A Celtics roster by that, by the way, is filled with guys that want to play hard, full of Jordan Walshes, full of Ugo Gonzalez’s. If you’re not going to want it as bad as those guys do, then Joe Missoula has no reason to play for to play you in his lineup, like it makes no sense. Uh Anthony Simon is in a contract year and he’s looking to get paid this off seasonason, but now we have lack of days turnovers, not playing hard on defense, and then he’s not shooting the ball well either. Now, is this something have to do with Joe Mazula not playing him a ton already? Like, this is a two-way street. We can’t completely bury Anthony Simons here. can’t bury his confidence because this is a guy who needs to be out there. He’s a guy who needs to have the ball in his hands in order to get into a rhythm in some sort of group. But if you’re not defending and if you’re not at least trying on that end of the floor, then it’s going to be hard for Joe Mazula to give him the shot that many maybe many people think he deserves. I don’t know if I’m one of them. I’m just more of the camp of let’s try to clear as much salary cap we can by trading Anthony Simons at some point this season. Although I don’t think 12 point 12 minutes a game is enough. What would you guys say? Be the coach down in the comments right now. A guy who I know deserves all the minutes in the world, Jaylen Brown. I mean, I know it’s 33 points on 33 shots, but this guy is leading. I don’t think that we’re bringing up this segment of the video to talk about Jaylen Brown’s true efficiency, even though we’ll bring up a stat that he has been really efficient so far this year. one of seven from three. Not great. Uh but this guy is a leader and he’s doing more than just being a volume scorer. Even though he took 33 shots in this game, he also had a ton of boards, 13 rebounds, crashing the glass, creating big-time possessions for this Celtics team that a team that’s not good at rebounding against his Clippers team that has a Zubach who’s a great rebounder and other elite rebounders on their squad as well. So, it was awesome to see him play bigger than than his frame is and it was awesome to see him close this game for Boston. um and just be the leader and and send a message to this team that they’re not going to go down and tank. They’re not going to go down and try to be at the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings. He has serious hope about this season. He said after the game that yes, they’re still continuing to work on things, a lot of things in a lot of areas actually, and improve upon those, but he said, “I’m super optimistic about the rest of our season. Let’s see how it goes.” Seven and seven right now, but the metrics really like the Boston Celtics so far this year. a top 10 offense, a top 10 defense, and it’s all led by Jaylen Brown. He’s got hope, but he’s also has an absolute bag to his game. The Jaylen Brown highlight clip at the end of this season is going to be one that I think I go back to for a long time. The mid-range just assassin that Jaylen Brown has been, the the isolation moves, the size up moves that he’s had uh in the intermediate game has just been awesome so far this year. And it’s evident in the numbers, man. He’s got the most mid-range makes so far this year. He’s shooting over 50% on those looks. Shot 50% in that Clipper game on Sunday. I mean, this guy is on track for the most points per game of his career. He’s on track for the highest true shooting percentage of his career. He’s on his way to an allNBA, I’d say second team or better campaign if this Celtics team makes the postseason. If this team is a top six seed, Jaylen Brown is a top 10 player this NBA season. I’ve loved what I’ve seen from him. want to see more. And uh hopefully this translates into him even being more of an effective player when JT comes back in 2627. That’ll do it for today’s show.
