CHICAGO – The Chicago Blackhawks will be without their captain, Nick Foligno, for approximately four weeks after he blocked a shot off his left hand during Saturday’s game against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Foligno was standing at the top of the left circle when Leafs defenseman Jake McCabe stepped into a shot from the right point and connected with Foligno’s left hand. Foligno immediately curled up in pain, skated off the ice and went to the dressing room late in the second period. He did not return to the game.

Nick is going to be out for an extended period of time,” Blackhawks coach Jeff Blashill said after his team’s 3-2 win. “Probably if I was to estimate, it’d be four weeks, but it might be a little bit less, a little bit more. I don’t love putting timelines on it. It’s not six months, but it’s not two days.

Blashill has leaned on Foligno most of this season as a bottom-six forward and on the penalty kill. Foligno and his line had been more of an offensive factor in the last two games. He contributed two goals in the Blackhawks’ overtime loss to the New Jersey Devils on Wednesday and another goal on Saturday.

But more than anything, Foligno has been the vocal leader of the Blackhawks since arriving three seasons ago and was the first captain named after Jonathan Toews.

“That’s tough to see,” Blackhawks veteran forward Teuvo Teräväinen said of Folign’s injury. “Tough bounces, that’s what happens sometimes when you’re battling hard. He’s a big guy. He’s our captain here. He’s vocal in the locker room. He’s everything on this team. Hopefully we can get him back as soon as we can.”[Foligno shot block](https://x.com/BlackhawksFocus/status/1989875879766626412?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1989875879766626412%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_c10&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.nytimes.com%2Fathletic%2F6811158%2F2025%2F11%2F15%2Fchicago-blackhawks-nick-foligno-injury%2F)

  3. Damn. Sounds like something is broken for sure. The hand and wrist area is filled with tiny bones. Probably couldn’t even tell anything immediately after from all the swelling, I imagine the xray showed a fair amount of damage.

    Fuck.

  4. My daughter was in Lurie’s a few months ago with a heart condition. One day, I heard a guy reading stories to the children right outside our room—it was Foligno and his wife. Because their daughter has a heart condition, the first thing he does when he’s in a new city is contact the children’s hospital and comes to read as often as possible.

My daughter was two weeks old at the time, so she wasn’t in the crowd of kids being read to, but he noticed me popping my head out and knocked on our door after finished reading. Him and his wife spent 15 minutes with us talking us through that shit situation and just about life. The ultimate good guy in the sport—never want anyone to get hurt, but was especially bummed when I saw this
