Don’t bring your facts in here!! Only knee jerk meatball reactions are allowed.
People also will sit there and act like soldier isn’t one of the hardest places to kick
I did not know this lol. Makes me like Santos more. But I figured Gould did it longer and had more attempts and misses were longer. I feel worried with Santos taking anything 43+ never with Gould but could be wrong. I also feel the league/position have changed a lot and good kickers are expected to be better now with long range.
It’s not fair! The Kicker makes my anxiety go up so we have to release him!
Career numbers don’t help today. He’s at 80% this year. Two weeks ago when things were the loudest about him he was at 73%. Also kickoffs are a thing that exist.
Think the difference is the blocks. If Santos last year didnt get blocked multiple times, I would never have a doubt in the man. But he has a lower launch angle and a good push by the opposition special teams blocking has hurt my confidence in him from 2 years ago. But if the kick doesnt get blocked I know 95% its going through the uprights if its under 50.
The problem isn’t that Cairo is bad relative to kickers from previous generations. The current generation of elite kickers have huge legs and accuracy.
When Aubrey sets up for a 60 yard field goal, you can go take a bathroom break. When Cairo sets up for a 55 yarder, you hold your breath and wonder if it’ll get there.
The kicker position is evolving. A career long of 55 these days is definitely on the short side.
If Santos gets a chance to kick a game-winner in the playoffs, I believe a lot of us will forgive him his misses and blocks.
I still remember watching Gould kick the game-winner against the Seahawks in the playoffs in 2006 and listening to Soldier Field erupt went it went through.
The game has changed. You are comparing different eras. A kicker made a 68 yard field goal this year in a game.

Yeah the Santos hate has gotten out of control. He has his limitations for sure, but hes still a pretty good kicker. We’re very quick to forget the awful kickers we had in the post-Gould era.
Thats not to say we cant bring in competition or try to find upgrades, but people who wanted him cut for Moody (a guy with a 74% average) were out of line.
That game winner was hooking left and just had enough to make it through. One bad year dropped Gould’s percentage but he was among the best in the league. Santos’ injury set him back and it looks like it’s gonna be costly down the stretch.
Robbie played in a different era of the NFL, santos would’ve been elite in the early to mid 2000’s.
Placekicking in the NFL has gotten vastly better over the last twenty years.
Gould would’ve broken 60 with the new K Ball rules.
The Santos hate is ridiculous. Dude’s money.
55 is today’s game is not a great career long. That’s half the issue with Santos, he can’t be trusted from deeper like some other guys today.
Gould would’ve broken 60 with the new K Ball rules.
Santos is just not what current NFL kickers can do. Most current NFL kickers can kick from 55+ with ease now. Back when we had Gould that wasn’t the case. You’re comparing the nfl now to NFL 10+ years ago. We need an upgrade at kicker. Most teams feel confident in their kicker kicking 55+ yards. Hell there’s some teams with kickers kicking 60+.
Statistically, he is better 😂😂😂
More cope. The guy is a liability on a team with SB aspirations in a couple years.
Gould played for Chicago for 11 years. If Santos still has better stats than Gould in 6 years he’ll get the title of best Bears kicker.
Just stop kicking field goals and get in the end zone. Are the Bears stupid?
Call me when Cairo hits a game winner in the playoffs. Robbie did it several times.
Isn’t Gould the highest scoring Bear in franchise history?
Sorry… if Santos missed that kick at the end
Everyone would now want his head on a pike
Santos is good and I’m glad we have him, but if Gould was playing in this era of juiced kicking balls he’d be even more highly regarded.
you have to adjust for era
mahmoud abdul-rauf was one of the greatest shooters of his era, but his era was one where nobody shot 3s, coby white has a better 3 pointy percentage, but nobody will say he was a better shooter
Lol put Robbie’s full name but Cairo is treated like Renaldo. Is it cause he’s Brazilian?
It’s almost like the league has changed in the last 5 years and kickers need to be more accurate and kick longer field goals.
Easy to kick 88% when your team only puts you out there for 40 yarders and under. What a stupid post lol
If all we do is score Touchdowns we will never need a field goal again.
Boom problem solved

This ignores how much better kicking has gotten in the last decade
We can’t just ignore the fact that kicking has evolved in the NFL. There are several kickers in the league that can hit 55+ yard FGs routinely, and the kickoffs have a different strategic element to them as well.
That being said, is Cairo over hated? Yes, he is. Cairo has helped the Bears win a few games this season. But also, Cairo has a noticeable weakness compared to other kickers in the NFL, and if a better option is available this offseason, then the Bears should certainly explore it.
Cairo Santos has below average range. That’s the issue I have with him. That’s what’s going to cost us games. Among current kickers, the average career-long is about 58 yds. Then take you to consideration that Santos’s 55 yd career long is basically an outlier, it is functional range is a few yards shorter than that, you can see where his lack of leg really starts to limit what the team’s options are at longer distances. This isn’t trying to take anything away from the guy, or compare him to Robbie Gould or Kevin Butler or any other Bears kicker.it’s just a simple statement of fact. Over time kickers in the league have gotten more accurate and have gotten longer range. Our guy is short. Love him, but I would love to see an upgrade at the position more.
Is this a discussion for “Hope”? It sounds like what ifs and what abouts. The team loves Santos and I’m with whatever makes them happy.
“Only when it is dark enough, can you see the stars.” MLK
Santos absolutely has his problems but hes also elite at the things hes elite at. Santos is for sure top 5 maybe top 3 for any FG under 45 yards. For 45-53/54 yards he is roughly a league average kicker (mostly due to risk of blocks). He’s only missed 2 kicks under 50 yards this year and 1 was blocked. Both were 45+. For anything above that 53/54 yards max, he is replacement level.
Overall, this probably makes him a league average kicker who can be much better if the team plays around that well. We can do that by going for it slightly more often than other teams would on 50+ yards FG 4th downs and by cleaning up the mistakes weve made on the opponent’s side of the field on offense so that every game isn’t decided by a FG.
This all isn’t to say we can’t use an upgrade at kicker, but that Cairo is far from replacement level and as long as we understand his weaknesses, he can be a very successful and clutch kicker for us in the near term. I’m almost never worried when hes kicking a short to medium kick with the game on the line. Thats something that hasnt been true since Gould.
“Cairo Santos L. Halper” if that IS your real name, BART SIMPSON!
Missing from distance is arguably worse because the field flips and the other team is immediately ~10 yards from field goal range
Not sure how current the info is see here is, but hes ranked 28th with 71.4% from 40-49 (think the average fg distance is about 40 yards, but haven’t fact checked that)
I checked last year which is a good sample size. Hes ranked 34th with 62.5%.
He’s not reliable at all. If we get to the playoffs, I promise you we don’t want to be relying on his leg.
Do you guys know who has the most 50+ yard FG’s in Bears history? No longer Gould, but Santos
Also, I’ve said this a few times this week: he hit a 55 yarder with room to spare, has hit from 57 (this year) & 58 (pre k-ball) in preseason, and was maybe 2 yards short on a rushed 58 yarder without the k-ball.
In the words of Ben Johnson, “We’ll be fine”
I think it is a different era. If you don’t have a kicker who can hit 50+ regularly you are behind the times.
Kickers seemed to have gotten a lot stronger in the 2020s. Fuckers just casually nail 60 yarders now.
Absolutely no one trusts Cairo to hit a 52 yard kick in the playoffs if needed
Unpopular take. Cairo is a good kicker.
A lot of you forgot the Connor Barth experience and it shows
