Hop in gang. It’s the by week and that means we going mock drafting. You are Locked on Dolphins, your daily Miami Dolphins podcast, part of the Locked On podcast network. Your team every day. All right, Miami. Welcome to another episode of Locked on Dolphins. It is your team every day here on the Locked Onet. now the number one sports podcast network. So thank each and every one of you for tuning in because it is your teams every day. We don’t just say it, we live it here on the lockdown network. I’m your host Krabs, lifelong Miami Dolphins fan, host of Locked on Dolphins, co-host of Lock on NFL scouting, author of Touchdown Miami on Substack, NFL staff writer for a toz sports. Today’s episode of Locked on Dolphins is brought to you by FanDuel. Right now new customers can bet $5 and if your bet wins, you get $300 in bonus bets to use across the app. We are taking advantage of that staff writer at a Toz Sports part of the title because I put together a seven round Miami Dolphins mockdraft that went up today over at a Toz Sports and we’re going to talk about the decision-making process on all of those picks and how we chose to get to some of those picks. So, with that in mind, let’s first establish based off of where things currently stand in the Dolphins sitting at 4-7 going into the buy, what picks the Dolphins have in the 2026 NFL draft. And and we’re going to operate with this assumption that they’ve won three of the last four games. They’ve got two more winnable games coming up. That’s probably gonna get you a chance to get back to 500. And you play the last four games, let the chips fall where they may, right? Uh I I am operating under the assumption based on the momentum of the team right now that Mike McDaniel is going to be retained as the head coach of the football team. And we’ve done plenty of thought pieces on half resets and things that are challenging in that regard and why it could be a good thing but why it could be a bad thing. and we’ll we’ll continue to have those talking points, but I don’t want to have those conversations today because I want to focus on if the coaching staff and the schemes that we’ve come the last four or two for Mike McDaniel or Anthony Weaver um are established and we know what we’re looking for and we know what we’re shopping for. What kind of players can you go out and get in the draft and where is their value and where do you have the hard spots? As of right now, the Dolphins are not projected to get any compensatory picks in the 2026 NFL draft. Guys like Larry Borham and Eitu Melafonu and Nick Westbrook Ain, they’re all kind of above that playing time threshold as qualifying players. So maybe Austin Jackson comes back and maybe the Dolphins aren’t tempted to move Larry Borm to right guard until James Daniels is able to come back. I would move Larry Borham inside. I don’t think they’re going to, but I would be exploring it and taking advantage of the by-week to do it. Um, maybe that knocks his playing time down far enough. Maybe ifu sits down for Dante Trader the final six games of the season full tilt and you don’t have, you know, that that’s that’s not a part of your calculus and maybe his playing time drops. a fourthround pick is on the line, but the Dolphins need two players that are above the playtime threshold to drop out of the playtime threshold for that to happen. So, I’m not going to give him a a projected compensatory four. I don’t think it’s going to happen, but in the grand scheme of things, they have 11, 43, 75, 78, and 95 in the top 100. Then they also have their own organic pick in the fourth round. That’s 111, 151 in the fifth round, and then 225 in the seventh round. So, it’s a grand total of 1, two, 3, four, five, six, seven, eight draft choices, five of them in the top 100. Six of them in the top 111. It’s exciting chances for some swings of the bat and some investment opportunities to your roster. Um, and I I think the interesting part about the pick at 11 is that, you know, you you’re out of the quarterback slash blue chip pass rusher area and you’re into where you could get some best player available tumbles due to positional value. Think about, you know, Caleb DS, the safety from Ohio State. He’s gonna have a good chance to be my number one overall player on my board just like Kyle Hamilton was a few years ago. Now he’s not like super sized like Kyle Hamilton, but Kyle Hamilton went 14 and there’s some parallels for downs. So he could go in the top 10, but maybe he doesn’t. And if he’s there at 11, that’s a BPA opportunity for you. That wasn’t who I picked in the A to Z mock. I’m going to read through the uh I’ll do the first three picks. I’ll break it up. We’ll do three picks and then we’ll do the other rest of the top 100 after that. But your organic picks at 1143 and 75 introduce those players kind of the thought process behind. So on the A Toz Sports uh seven round Dolphins 2026 mock draft. Uh with the pick at 11, I went with a name that South Florida football fans should know quite well. Francis Maoga, offensive lineman, right tackle currently for the Miami Hurricanes. I went with that the pick at 11. At number 43 overall, it was defensive lineman Quincy Rhodess Jr. from Arkansas. And then at 75 overall, we’re becoming Arkansas South. I went with another Arkansas Razerback’s defender, a cornerback Julian Neil at 75 overall. So those are the first three picks. ends up being offensive lineman, edge, corner, and that’s not necessarily intentional, but it it works out pretty well relative to where the Dolphins needs are, right? But Mauyoga is a tone setting decision based on who you project is going to be available. Caleb Lomu from Utah, also a right tackle, widely and and overwhelmingly gets projected as a top 10 player in this in this draft class coming up. But Mauyogo, whether he ends up being a right tackler or right guard, a lot of NFL evaluators think he’s going to end up settling in at guard. Uh, it’s it’s the to borrow the phrase from Mike McDaniel this past offseason, the tonality of the football team, right? And it’s something that I’m I’m taking into consideration with a pick like Francis Moga who has a lot of mass, has a lot of power, has a lot of displacement ability, um but has athleticism, you know, and that being the blend of things that the Dolphins have wanted and and they went after it with Savatia, who they kicked inside to play at guard, and they went after it with Patrick Paul, and they have it with Aaron Brewer, and they went after it to a certain degree with James Daniels, but we haven’t seen James Daniels. And that’s from a a contract perspective. I’m I think it’s worthwhile to note he signs a three-year $24 million contract. He’s got 3.48 million of 2026 salary that fully guarantees on the third day of the league year in March this year upcoming. So they could move on from James Daniels at the start of the league year and owe him no more cash. And I think that’s why for James Daniels, like 28-year-old player, former top 50 pick, top 40 pick in his own right, signed a three-year deal. You’d think is a good scheme fit. I know they had interest going back to 24. They were talking to Pittsburgh during training camp as a potential trade candidate. He gets hurt in the first month of the season. goes through his Achilles rehab and his back, third snap of the season, goes down with a pec. Like, if you don’t play all season off a pec that was reported to not be a season ending injury, which I would assume means it’s it’s it’s a strain and not a tear. But that’s an assumption on my part, right? But if James Daniels plays three snaps this season after signing a three-ear $24 million contract and you’re making like GM and football operation decisions, I don’t know that I do I want to be do I want to be tethered to that or am I going to move on? Because if I’m going to move on, it opens the door for either spot to be a vacancy for for Francis Moga. And um I think it I mean it it’s high time we start evaluating an entirety of a roster not based off the projected starting lineups, right? But also who are the two guys behind in the queue at any given spot. And for the Dolphins, you looked at their projected starting five and I believe their starting five if they had the whole thing out there would be quite good. I think it’s a a serviceable unit right now, but I think it could be a true strength of the team if all those guys were out there. But you’re missing the entire right side line. We’ll get Austin Jackson back hopefully here sooner rather than later. But he’s got his own durability issues and longterm I don’t think you could put eggs in in either one of those baskets on the right side right now. So Francis Mayo is the pick at 11. Uh the pick at 43, Quincy Rhodess. We’ll talk about him and the other Arkansas Razerback defender we took and then get into the rest of the picks on the other side of the break. And that’s where I think about what the Dolphins have on the edge. You have Chop Robinson. Bradley Chub is a mature contract that the team’s going to have to make some decisions on, but there’s a a long-term question that exists there. They’ve already traded away Jaylen Phillips. Uh, Matthew Judon was on a one-year contract in the first place. And Anthony Weaver’s up here talking in the first month of the season about these guys need to make a conscious decision to say, “F it. I’m going to stick my helmet in your chest. I’m going to set the edge.” Think we need some more physical play. I think that’s been part of the challenge with Chop and getting Chop rolling the way that we need Chop Robinson to be rolling as a first round draft choice. Setting the edge. you you want to set the edge, you go out to get a couple of cats like this dude right here, 6’6, 275. He’s physical. He’s got long arms. He’s got power. He’s broken out this year from a pass rush perspective. And one of my favorite things about him is he’s only 20 years old, so there’s a lot of football in front of him. Uh there’s a lot of growth potential, but you’ve already seen growth uh in his play in 2025 from a sack production standpoint. He wins with twists and stunts and and has an understanding of how that works. I think his actual pass rush plan needs to be refined as far as winning 101’s off the edge, but the Dolphins like to play a lot of of games up front. And as a result, I I think there’s an opportunity there for you to get sack production from a guy who uh I think has a very high floor even coming into the league as a 21-year-old rookie was which what’ll be on opening day next year if he declares for this year’s class. And I think this is kind of draft class that could really use names like Quincy Rhodess to enter into the conversation. So potential departures on top of already departed players like Jaylen Phillips. Uh hearing Anthony Weaver talk about wanting to set hard edges. Um and knowing that we run some sim pressure stuff where you can get guys weaponized underneath. Uh, and if you get guys that understand how to run games and twist and stunts and picks and and TE stunts and and ET stunts and threeman games, you got guys that can understand that, you’ve got some resolutions other than just, hey, we we got the four horsemen up front to rush a passer and every single one of these guys could beat a double team if you gave a double team. Julian Neil, red shirt senior corner. Uh, I think everybody knows the book on Miami secondary, right? And we have long-term needs at core. This dude right here, 6’2, 28-lbs, red shirt senior, one of the most imposing and physical press corners in the class. And you go back to when they were gassing up Storm Duck and they were insistent that Storm Duck because he executes his assignment, he gets hands on receivers, he disrupts the route timing and then you see what Juju Brents did for two weeks before he went down with a with an unfortunate injury that that ended his season after just two starts and over 100 snaps. um this is the kind of player that can bring that vision to life in my opinion and uh play on the perimeter. Now, he’s not going to be for everybody. If you you if you want guys that can play on an island with a single high safety and they can turn and run into contact window or play soft man and flip their hips and carry guys 40 yards downfield, this dude’s not going to be for you. And that’s why I think there’s a conversation of when on day two he’s going to be available. But you think about Russul Douglas, how well Russul Douglas has played this season. He’s a physical player. He’s good in run sport. Gets hands on guys. Disrupts timing. He’s probably a 465 guy these days. Doesn’t have great speed, but it can work within the construct of the scheme. And I think Julian Nil is the same kind of way. I think he’s a tailor made player for for the things the Dolphins have been preaching going back to OTAAS in mini camp and what they were coveting or why they had confidence in some of these unestablished names in the secondary. I think Julian Neil can do those things. So that’s the the first three picks the top 75 picks is Francis Mogo offensive lineman at 11 and a pair of Arkansas Razerbacks Quincy Rhodess Jr. and Julian Nil. 7895. The last two picks in the top 100. It’s defensive lineman Anthony Smith and wide receiver Jeremy Bernard from Alabama. So Anthony Smith is from Minnesota. Another big end. He’s listed at 285. Uh he’s got nine and a half sacks this season. Another guy that made a big leap. Uh but there’s alignment versatility here. kind of like um kind of reminds me to some degree from a build perspective of of Brandon Doris. If you hear, oh well, if he’s 6’6, 285 pounds, and is going to have double digit sacks this year, why is he available in in day two and potentially in the third round, right? And that’s where I go back to a name like Brandon Doris coming out of Oregon who was 6’3 295 a little bigger but he he fell to 109 right u because he didn’t have the most prolific athletic profile and I’m I’m not sure exactly I think Smith has a chance to elevate himself out of this area of the draft with his his pre-draft process but we talked about the pass rush on on the the club dub show yesterday and the reps we got from Chop and the reps that we got from Judon and the disruption you did and did not get there. We talked about the pass rush plan against the Bills to get even to the quarterback and not get past the quarterback and execute that and compress. And we’ve talked about the need to set edges. You get some big guys with some alignment versatility in here. You’re starting to see like Zack Cer get a chance to put his hand in the dirt and play over top of tackle some as they manipulate like, okay, here’s how we want to adjust our front alignment versus their formations and the down and distance and the personnel that they have. The 275 plus guys like Anthony Smith from Minnesota and like Quincy Rhodess can can give you some of that versatility. And I think that’s the thing for Miami when you think about the edge guys that they have. Um it’s it’s you got two guys that are are strong side players or you perceive to be strong side players and you had two guys that you perceive to be weak side players in Jaylen Phillips and Chop Robinson, right? Chop can be a little bit more of a chaos hunter and you get into some long and lateowns and he could be a player you can move around a little bit more. And right now like the Dolphins just don’t have enough pieces of the pieces um to really get exotic in the front. So I think this could be the defensive tackle double dipped. You’d be well served in my opinion to be receptive to going about the same kind of thing this year. Uh Jeremy Bernard, one of my favorite day two wide receivers. Knack for big plays. Like 6’1, 205. He’s not the biggest. He’s not the fastest. He’s not the strongest. You got guys with bigger catch radiuses, but man, he makes plays. And the Dolphins need somebody else to be like another separator type player who can create some chunk gains in life without Tyreek Hill. And I think this is the right area of the draft to go after a guy who uh you’re not going to ask to be the the primary player. You’re not going to ask him to be a volume receiver, but you’re gonna ask him to be a part of the overall collective of names like Wadd and Malik Washington and whoever you settle as being like your big body player. Nick Westbrook Akin is under contract, but that experience is not going particularly well this year. Uh you you need another like, hey, let’s get a bucket against man kind of guy. And I think Jeremy Bernard can be that. He’s got some big playability within his gate. What you probably noticed is we we did not go quarterback. We’re going to talk about the rest of the day three swings, which does include a quarterback, and uh the overall quarterback decision that played out in this mock draft that’s coming your way next here live on Dolphins. Okay, so the rest of the picks outside the top 100, we had three to make. We went Penn State safety Zaki Wheatley at 111 overall. Just outside the top 100, uh Arkansas quarterback Tailing Green at 151. And then Michigan State tight end Jack Ving at 225 overall. So that that rounds out the picks Miami makes in this 2026 seven round mockd draft. Uh the quarterback thing was interesting because as you look at okay who’s available at 11, right? And and I’m now operating off the reports from guys like Tom McShay that Dante Moore is going to go back to school and Lenora Sers is going to go back to school. And that really leaves like Tai Simpson and Fernando Mendoza, the Dolphins obviously not going to be positioned, I think, with a lot of the quarterback hungry teams that are in front of them to need or or to to draft either one of those players. Now, if that changes, if it turns out that there are players available at quarterback, I am entertaining them a billion%. Right? But you have the Browns, the Saints, the Jets, the Raiders, potentially the Rams taking advantage of a an uncharacteristic top 10 pick and potentially the Cardinals as it’s been reported. They they might be moving on from uh Kyler Murray. It’s a lot of names in the quarterback market in front of you, especially if there’s only two that end up are being in this class. So, I didn’t go quarterback at that front. uh quarterbacks in the second round. I I like the Cincinnati kid, Brendan Sorsby, a ton, and I think that would be probably the range that I think is appropriate for him. But if you’re keeping Mike McDaniel, man, I just with a new GM, I think a guy like Sorsby probably benefits from the opportunity that you could present and not having to play if assuming you’re you’re sustaining to a tongue for another year. What happens if 2026 doesn’t go well and now you move on from Mike McDaniel and now you’ve got a a one-year head coach with a quarterback in play like you’re you’re a one-year GM. You’re you’re what the New York Giants situation is right now because they moved on from Brian Dable and they’re going to keep Joe Shane and they drafted Jackson Dart last year. I think he’s a high enough variance player that it would kind of deter me from being really excited about it unless there’s a lot more promise stability to allow that coach to try to realize that pick. Now, if you told me that they drafted him, I’ I’d be excited. I think Sorsby’s got electric talent. I think he’s a lot better than than even his numbers showcase because his receivers let a lot let a lot of plays slip through the cracks for him. But how pro ready is he? I don’t know. Right. But I think Sorsby would be like my early second round if you were going to do the Giants thing and maybe move up in the last few picks of the first round to like go get a guy. I I would entertain him in that stratosphere. Personally, I would. I know there there’s a lot of you that consume the show who have thoughts on on day three quarterbacks, right? I end up settling on Tailon Green, who’s who’s a dramatic different departure from what the Dolphins have had and have running their offense right now. But that’s the challenge that I think Miami has to be faced with is if you’re running it back with Tua and you’re running it back with Mike McDaniel, is Mike McDaniel going to involve his offense? And what is the implications of that for Tua? Or is he going to keep the offense optimized for Tua because he has to win? And if that’s the case, what kind of overlap can you give uh another quarterback that comes in, especially if his skill set is different? And we haven’t necessarily seen Mike be very quick to shift the scheme and the core principles when there’s been interruptions at quarterback. Now, I think the offense has evolved this year. jumbo sets, more heavy personnels, no Tyreek Hill out of necessity. And I think forcing you out of the Tyreek Hill offense has actually facilitated a lot of healthy change for like what kind of offense you’re trying to be. I wish they’d have done this in the offseason because you’re seeing the the possession and the clock control and the run game diversity and uh they’re successfully getting after people in that regard. names I like like I like Garrett Nosmire if the price is right. I like Garrett or Brendan Sorsby if the price is right. I like Fernando Mendoza as a a potential top 10 pick. I don’t think he’s like we need to tank for this guy, but he’s a a smart player. I love the fact that he’s from South Florida and the potential to step into this community and and play here. I don’t think you’re going to be in a position to draft him unless you make a splash from a draft capital perspective. I like Tai Simpson. I’m a little leerary about the stature and the style that he plays with. It should sound familiar for an Alabama quarterback and I’m not saying that he’s he’s got the durability issues of two tongue below, but he’s got also got a very small sample size, right? So, I I see those of you saying names like Hannes King from Georgia Tech. I think Hannes King is a a tough hard-nosed player with good college quarterback tape, but I don’t know that he’s got the passing chops from a timing and a release and an accuracy perspective to be anything other than a project. And if I’m going to go with a project, you give me the the guy who took the Captain America super serum, which is what Taylor Green’s really got cooking for him. I think Miami should be in a position right now to draft it as long as you have a surplus in draft capital. Probably draft a quarterback every year. Don’t not keep flushing top 50 picks down the toilet like you did with John Back, Chad Henning, and Pat White. Sorry for the PTSD on that one, but you know, take some swings on day three guys with varying skill sets. whether they overlap with your scheme like Quinn Uers does or whether they’re a really high tools guy like a Taylor Green. Um and then maybe you get in a position and and and or you get a trade opportunity where the price is right like it was for the Giants when they moved up for Dart and you go up and get a guy. But I don’t think organically the values of anything that was available in this mock that I did really stood out in part because I think that half of the top four quarterbacks are probably going back to school. Now, I would like to see the team take some swings at quarterback regardless. I mocked them, Tailon Green, but if you told me they went with a a veteran player and they acquired somebody that could maybe be a starter and uh raise the floor and and you know, get you rolling in that regard and you could skip the line and and being amongst everybody else in 2027 that’s lining up when you move off the two contract, great. Especially if he hits, but um I don’t want to take one just to take one, right? because that that’s where you really get risky. So, I didn’t have anything available that jumped out to me. So, I chose to build the rest of the roster knowing full well we need to do something. So, if we don’t get one, who we picking up the phone and calling, who we signing in free agency and see if if this is the kind of stratosphere where we finish, uh who can we who can we acquire via trade that maybe has another year left on their contract as a high upside swing as a reclamation project? Kind of like the the the Zach Wilson spirit, right? I don’t think they’ll retain Zack, but know it’s it’s a tough spot to be to find an alternative, but I think we’re at that point where let’s start opening some doors. Let’s start bringing some people in. Um, and we have to be opportunistic when the right pairing of opportunity, timing, player, value, when it presents, let’s go for it. And I obviously can’t mock that in a standalone. So, uh, that’s a 2026 seven round Miami Dolphins mock draft as written over at Toz Sports. Hope you guys enjoyed the kind of the jaunt through it and, uh, we will get into our executive and GM content for the rest of this by week here the rest of the week.
