Do you feel it’s time to move on from those two? Offense seems stale and incapable of playing from behind. The offensive line is terrible and hasn’t been good in two years. Offense has way too many weapons to not score over 24 points a game. I feel like I’m watching Herbert regress in this offense. Top tier talent at the skill position and no home runs in games.

  1. Yes, o-line is probably the worst in the league. Injuries or not, should not be excused how bad they are playing

  2. there was 3rd and 8 and this dude calls a fucking wide receiver screen. hire me i can come up with better plays holy shit

  3. Roman just feels too inconsistent as an OC, some games the gameplan will work to perfection, other times it looks like he’s drawing up plays with crayons

  4. Devlin definitely

Roman has improve from last seasons playcalling. Lack of talent oline but he called a nice game vs steelers not so much vs jags . So would like to see how he calls it when Hampton returns. The obsession with boze a problem

  5. Can we talk about Minter? He is a great DC so why have we had random weeks these past two years where we cannot stop running water. Its 3 or 4 games a year at this point. And it’s usually against worse opponents

  6. I don’t think the playcalling was great by any means….but when your o-line is terrible, and then your elite playmakers at QB, WR etc also play like garbage….you’re not winning any game. Guys like Herbert, Ladd, Keenan, QJ….have to play at an elite level to make up for the lack of talent along oline and at RB/TE.

When your elite guys are completely off (Herbert made some horrendous decisions on where to go with the ball/and horrendous throws)…..it really doesn’t matter what you’re calling, it’s a lack of execution.

It’s not the Xs and Os, but the Jimmys and Joes.

  7. Can we also shit can Ben Herbert? Still waiting to see this whole unbreakable shit he sold us on.

  8. Hiring Greg Roman was an obvious mistake from the beginning and Jim’s stubborn loyalty is going to just waste a few more Herbert years on the bum OC carousel

  9. Harbaugh is a good coach, his decisions to hire Roman and Devlin are questionable. I believe if he fires him and replaces him with an adaptable OC like how Minter is on defense we could contend

  10. Yesterday sucked, but the three games before that didn’t. We’re 7-4. It could be better, but it also could be much worse.

Let’s try to maintain perspective beyond yesterday’s shitshow

  11. omg stfu… two all pro tackles out for the season and two at least pro bowl running backs out for significant time. completely unfair assessment

  12. mfs rly saw our injured oline and then googled who the oline coach was so they can say “FiRe dEvLiN!!!”

  13. I think Devlin needs to go. Every OL player we bring in looks worse than where they were before, and he’s had absolutely no success in getting above average play out of anyone but Alt and Slater, who are both All Pro level talents.

Roman is trickier. That gameplan against the Chiefs in week 1 was a masterpiece. As was his plan vs Dolphins, Vikings and even to some extent his run game design last week vs Steelers.

But our offense lives and dies by whether he has a good week or a bad week.

And that simply cannot be the case when we have Justin Herbert and Ladd McConkey. They’re both elite elite talents that should ensure a floor that we just aren’t seeing.

This is not a Justin Herbert offense it’s a Greg Roman offense.

Lombardi was not as good of an OC as Roman is schematically, but he got out of the way and gave Herbert more space to operate and to shine.
That meant sometimes it was ALL on Herbert.

But that’s sometimes the nature of the beast when you’re a Hall of Fame talent in your prime. The game is on you.

All of this is to say that I don’t believe firing Roman is as clear of a decision as many make it out.

What I want to see is this. Play 6 OL on 50% of snaps. Trust that Ladd, Keenan and Gadsden can get open.

Be aggressive. The aim shouldn’t be to neuter Herbert to be a sub-par Tua, it should be to give him breathing room to get through his reads.

And ffs just stop fucking around and play Salyer at LT.

  14. I feel like blaming the OC for this loss is so reactionary and short sighted. People are unable to look at the context of the game. We are on our backup right tackle and another tackle that is brand new to the system has not played well at tackle.
On top of this the game script went horrible for the chargers. Being down the especially in the second half forced us into a passing offense and the defense could tee off on Herbert. I’m not sure any OC could make this work.
If you want someone to blame it’s the front office for not drafting any viable olinemen last draft and signing and injury riddled right guard who has played about 50% of snaps this year.
I think Roman has shown some really good plans this year but the fact our top 3 running backs have gone down in addition to a colossal amount of injuries to our Oline really has hamstrung what he can do.

  15. Harbaugh *wants* to run the ball a lot, but seemingly this team can’t. Both from an O line and who’s at RB respect.

Harbs has a history of not letting his OC take full control. He generally has his fingerprints all over it, and this team is a stark contrast from what he generally wants his teams to do.

He wants a great o line and running backs he can lean on, and this team seemingly has neither. And that’s a problem.

It doesn’t matter what weapons at receiver and QB you have if the QB is constantly rushed to get the ball out and can’t go through his progressions.

Obviously, Joe Alt being their #1 recruit in Harbs’ first season as HC was a clear signal of where he wants to place very high importance for his team–but he’s out injured and there just aren’t enough really elite tackles on the team to keep the play up at that high level.

Of all of the assistants Harbaugh brought to the Chargers from Michigan, the one that got left behind was his last OC and O line coach. That’s Sherrone Moore, who’s now head coach at Michigan. Verdict is still out on how great of a head coach he will be, but he absolutely is a phenomenal O line coach.

So yeah, maybe at least Mike Devlin needs to be moved on from? But, is it really him or is it the level of players on the team on the OL? Bit of both? I’m not in the building to really know for sure there… Have to trust Harbaugh to know and make the appropriate changes going forward and work with Hortiz to get the players needed to bolster the team at OL and RB. That’s what all good Harbaugh teams have emphasized.

Don’t forget that Greg Roman was a part of Harbaugh’s 49ers team. They ran the shit out of the ball, leaning heavily on Frank Gore. And it worked. It worked well. 3 NFC championship games in a row and an appearance in a Super Bowl where they were 1 play away from potentially winning it.

If you don’t force teams to respect the run, it gets harder to pass the ball. That kind of works both ways, too–as in a team good in the passing game can open up the run game as well. If you have an offense that is a force to be reckoned with in both ways, the opposing defense has to stay on their toes because you can beat them any one of a number of ways.

Teams get into trouble when their offense becomes one dimensional… And unfortunately, the Chargers are currently largely 1 dimensional. They’re putting an awful lot of pressure solely on Herbert to make some magic happen. He’s certainly capable, but it would be nice if Harbaugh had this team put together to make his job that much easier as is traditional of Harbaugh-led teams.

  16. Two weeks ago it was “y’all can we Greg an apology”

Do we ever consider that maybe this week the plan wasn’t good, the o-line is Swiss cheese and Herbert couldn’t get his cape on fast enough?

Other teams are making plans to win games. Losses happen but someone doesn’t have to be fired or traded or released after every loss

  17. 10 isn’t the problem. And he’s not regressing. But I am sensing desperation. Wondering if it’s only a matter of time before he goes Stafford on the organization.

  18. I’d like Mike McDaniels if he gets dropped by the Dolphins, but I also am not sure if he will get dropped now that Grier is gone. But also, their OC Frank Parker could get let go, and he used to be our OL coach and Run Game coordinator during Herbert’s best season (2021). If he gets dropped, we should bring him back, since our OL was really good then.

  19. Would love KOC or Mike McDaniel if they get fired. Don’t think Daboll is that big upgrade over Roman.

  20. Really wanted the Colts to struggle and fire Shane so he could replace roman. Looks like that’s not gonna happen. But Shane was literally the best playcaller for herbo

  21. Delvin 1000% needs to go several guys seemingly have regressed under him like Salyer and Pipkins. Roman I’m willing to give until end of the season but if he doesn’t improve I’m fine moving on

  22. I think its extremly unfair to judge him based on losing slater, alt, and RB1/2. Its a miracle you guys havent completely collapsed. This would be my take on it.

Hes improved since leaving us (bal). the fact that he was able to get anything out of qj is a miracle, and watch that turn into a comp pick or trade for you, which is the best outcome out of a bad pick.

I think you all have realize despite last years results, you’re in year two of a rebuild. Telesco left you a mess and all of these guys are doing their best to clean it up.

I think his best benefit to you is since he is such a good running coordinator, he can cover up OL weaknesses thru the running gamem but he can also really control the clock and give the D a break. It leads to the most complementary football.

I think harbaugh will develop Herbert. He will be fine.

Watch year 3 to see what they do, with another draft, and players returning from IR.
