And no, these stats aren’t me saying that Cam Ward is playing particularly great or anything. I’m saying he’s improving and that counts for something. Discussion about his play requires nuance. You can cherry pick stats to support either side of the argument but the reality lies somewhere in the middle. Ward has things he needs to work on and there are qualities in his game that are pretty obvious issues. However, Ward is working with, far and away, the league’s worst offense in terms of talent AND coaching. This is said nearly every week but it is pretty asinine to make a determination on what type of player Ward will be at this stage of his career.
Cam did miss a few big time downfield throws, but honestly I think this was his best game of the year so far. He looked shockingly comfortable despite an overwhelmingly uncomfortable situation. Zero running game, two of his top targets out early, and he still had us within reach of at least a tie? And he didn’t die against this defense? I’ll take it for days!
I’m totally fine with Pollard getting the sacrificial carries if it means we keep Spears fresh for the manufactured running game with the short check downs to him, he’s so explosive with the ball. But dear god, I don’t know what the solution is, we can’t go into this game with Van and Kinsey as two of our top three options. It really sucks Van has had injuries because he just doesn’t look remotely like the Florida player that I really liked during his draft season and that good year with the Rams, he just looks so cooked and slow. Kinsey is just bad.
This was also with a run game that only averaged 1.8 yards a carry, not counting Wards own scrambles, and throwing to mid round rookies and practice squad guys.
He is clearly showing improvement throughout the season, and everything else around him is historically bad. Maybe he still ends up busting, but anyone definitively claiming that now I just can’t take seriously. There’s no way to really evaluate anything with how bad his situation is currently.
Two of those missed downhill throws were to a guy who never ran those routes with Cam before there was zero timing. There’s a reason why they work all off-season on timing. I’ve noticed on most cameras deep balls. He put it towards the sidelines over the outside shoulder. On the men throw to mason the most obvious one there was no reason for mason to even look inside because there was nothing over his outside shoulder, but green grass.
Also if you look at epa from the QBs that have faced the Texans defense Cam’s last sunday performance has been the 3rd best when it comes to EPA
Week 1.081 Stafford
Week 2.102 Mayfield
Week 3-.070 Lawrence
Week 4 -.098 Ward
Week 5 .023 Rush
Week 7 .017 Darnold
Week 8.021 M. Jones
Week 9 -.028 Nix
Week 10-.051 Lawrence
Week 11 .044 Ward
Funny enough he also had the worst back in week 4 with Bo as playcaller and Callahan as HC lol
It’s not like he’s arrived, but he is improving and developing
I just love that some of yall don’t want to give him time or let us get him weapons.. we can literally change over this off season, accumulate multiple picks and get us some wayyyy better weapons.
I pray we trade back with CLE, get their two first round picks and get WR Tyson/Tate and then Love with the JAX pick
Get fugged Dayton Triangles. The goat is here.
I was thinking today that Bo hasn’t really received enough recognition for this week. I haven’t been a huge fan of him his first few games calling plays. I think this game he did an excellent job with the short passes attacking the pressure brought by the blitz. He also schemed open some plays that could have been huge gains if there were executed correctly. He called a good enough game to win, but the offense killed itself with false start penalties and missed deep throws.
The run game sucked and I think he should have called more passes to the TEs and run Spears outside the tackle more, but I get that they were trying to establish the run with Pollard unsuccessfully.
Technically!! Improvement.
what I saw on Sunday was a Texans team begging for the Titans to pass on them who had decided they’re not gonna let them run anywhere and they only come up with 13 points.
The Texans didn’t really game plan for Cam Ward they were more than happy to let him try to beat them.
I saw one of the best defenses in the league going against one of the worst offenses in the league and 13 points was the result.
Does he have help with the coaching nope. Does he have help with the players around him? Nope. Is this organization doing him many favors. Nope
13 points it’s about what this team’s worth right now no matter who they’re playing.
That defense also got to play the titans twice, just saying lol
I love Cam and am so so glad we had a good last drive, but you know we’re down bad when we’re hyping a 190-yard, 1 TD, 1 turnover game.
People say they want the Titans to draft Bain or Reese. I want Jordyn Tyson. He looks like a dawg, just like Cam.
