Frankie Montas designated for assignment by Mets (source)

  1. One of the worst signing in the history of the Mets, and it was bad from the moment pen met paper. Good riddance.

  2. Makes sense. Paying him to do nothing regardless, might as well free up the roster spot for offseason moves

  3. Look, overall it was a bad signing, but the guy was hurt, played hurt, then got hurt again. You can’t predict for that outcome.

  4. I really don’t know what Stearns was expecting here. A guaranteed 34 million for a 32 year old pitcher who had a single good season four years ago.

Oh and the previous team he managed tried to fix him 3 months prior and failed.

  5. Out of the 5 reclamation starters Stearns signed (2024 Severino, 2024 Manaea, 2025 Holmes, 2025 Montas, 2025 Canning) all of them ranged from decent to great. Except for one, obviously (who was ironically paid the most by AAV). I don’t mind the idea of reclamation projects but Montas getting $34M will always be insane to me

  6. Bro made a killing.  I wish I could get 34M to do physical therapy and play PlayStation all day.

  7. Thank god, im looking forward to not hearing the same crowd griping about him nonstop anymore. That will happen surely right

  8. I remember watching his first start and thinking “damn that was pretty good if this is where he is starting from we might have something”. Then it turned out that was his peak.

  9. Brewers picked him up at the 2024 trade deadline and then we sign him for two years.

Given Stearns’ previous role in Milwaukee, I wonder if there’s something in his profile that clicked in both teams model which I would imagine are similar. I wonder what it was.
