Something I haven’t seen brought up in the past 50 threads posted about this topic is how often Simons is put in a corner on offense. His defense is obviously not good, but he was a very strong creator last season. This has been the most obvious issue to me; Simons has literally no role when Brown is playing. Instead of subbing White or PP for Simons, I think Simons should only sub in with the bench wings when JB’s offense isn’t the main focus.

He hasn’t been that great creating in limited minutes. Lots of turnovers or bad passes
What is your guys fixation about Simons? He is a plain bad player that is a slight positive when white hot and a negative every other way. He isn’t particularly efficient as he has had negative rTS for the past 3 seasons. He is a horrific PnR defender making us rotate every single time.
He isn’t particularly good at playmaking or rebounding. He doesn’t move on offence like a shooter (ie: Hauser) and clogs the whole offence. He doesn’t have a tight handle nor fancy moves to get by alone, so he is heavily dependent on screens to get free and we don’t necessarily have the personnel to give him that.
He is simply put a bad player that has been able to put multiple 20PPG (per 36) on sub 35 win teams. He won’t add anything to us and we should hope we can trade him without too much issue for a guy like terrance Mann so we can get out of the tax line.
Simons’ best bet is for one of our top 3 to get injured. I’m obviously not hoping for this at all, but he just doesn’t really have a role on this team and Mazzulla isn’t really allowing him to be himself. Dude is used to a lot more freedom and he is struggling in his new role.
If we are trying to increase his value in order to trade him, we are doing a horrible job. I was optimistic with him still on the roster after the summer, but I can’t imagine we re-sign him if he’s still on the roster at the end of the season. He won’t get anywhere near his current contract regardless of where he lands, but I do feel for him. To his credit, he is at least putting on a good front and attempting to buy in.
Their net rating playing together is largely due to 3 point variance. Those will regress and their numbers together will improve naturally. But Simons is a legitimately bad defender. “Not good” is an understatement. A lot of those opponent made 3s are because Simons leaves his guy wide open in the corner to needlessly gamble on a steal.
Last year Simons was able to play pick and roll with Ayton, one of the best roll men in the league. This year he’s playing with Queta and Garza and that’s obviously a big step down. He also hasn’t been able to reliably beat his defender, pick or no pick. It’s pretty hard to create for others without getting the defense in rotation so unless he figures out how to get himself open more regularly he’s not going to be a big plus on that side of the ball.
Anfernee needs to be what Sam Hauser used to be, come in for short spurts and drain 5 threes a game.
Simons the “strong creator” feels like a figment of our imagination. Bad passer/playmaker, bad handles especially when defenders are physical. Feels like it’s just 3 point shooting that he’s good at
His role is to suck and expire
lol this graphic literally says we’re better without Simons
AF can have a great career when he’s comfortable as a microwave scorer off the bench.
It’s a tougher role than people seem to think.
I wrote months before the season that we should pump up Simons numbers to make him some kind of trade bait instead of making him a long-term player. That would probably include being a .500 team until December/January, and then we ship him off. JB can also get his all-star accolade and we can send off the season early when injuries naturally pick up anyways. I hope that’s the plan
Let’s give it some time and this bench needs scoring and he gives it that. He is improving and we need to let Joe tinker with roles until after the all-star break.
Simons is not good sadly
Pritchard and Anfernee are basically the same player except the team trusts Pritchard more, Pritchard has been on the team longer and he has already taken their role on the offense. It’s not that Anfernee sucks he doesnt fit the team. Unless theres an injury he will not ball out
