The New York Islander CANNOT Sacrifice The Future For Playoffs This Year

But the fact of the matter is that to me, if you’re Matthew Dar and you’re the New York Islanders, I’d love to make the playoffs this year. I’d love to win around. I would be thrilled. It would be exciting. And this team is better than they were a year ago. They’re healthier and some of the moves Matthew Dar made, the players he’s added have helped improve this team. They’re more in sync with what Patrick Wall wants to do. It’s a step in the right direction. But I will not agree to sacrifice the future.

No matter what, the New York Islanders CANNOT sacrifice the future for instant success.

  1. I agree, I'm not trading any young players at this stage of the rebuild. I would trade off a vet for more young players if I am making amove anytime soon.

  2. Gil, I agree but there’s 1 vet on an expiring contract I’d keep. His value on the market may be the highest in getting someone back but IMO he is more valuable to the team now and for the next few years. That guy is JGP. He plays an all around game and there’s no way he cowers in the locker room and doesn’t speak up !

  3. As much as I want the islanders to make the playoffs I would rather them tank after the holidays. We don’t have an identity and we don’t have the physical presence that’s needed for the playoffs. Build a team for the future. We’ve already waited 40 years. What’s wrong with waiting a few more.
