Jim Harbaugh & Justin Herbert Postgame Press Conference Vs Jaguars | LA Chargers

Uh, we got beat every which way you could possibly be beat and uh we got uh gonna fly back to LA and uh get get together and uh figure out what we’re going to do about it. Do do you think this was a preparation issue or what happened? Yeah, every every possible every possible um you know phase of the game. Um including strategy. Uh uh there was we got beat in every possible way. We saw Justin go to the blue tent end of the first half after taking a pretty big hit. Do you have any update on how he’s doing? Uh he was cleared to come back and play. Was there anything specifically that was being looked at? Uh, I’ll let uh I think they were evaluating him for concussions. That’s what I think. And uh yeah, he was cleared. And so you you guys took him out early. Was that just strictly because the score? We just weren’t doing anything well. Um offensively, we weren’t we weren’t running the ball well. We weren’t protecting. Uh we weren’t getting open. Um and defensively, you know, same. We uh you know, weren’t uh weren’t stopping the run. We’re loose in coverage. Uh yeah, I mean go through every phase and um we uh yeah, we got beat every which way you could get beat. Last week against Pittsburgh, you sort of applauded the team for the physicality. You said that you know those types of wins are are your favorite. Where did that physicality go today? Yeah, we were out physicalled as well. Any any reason? Every every I mean every phase I mean we can go through it now. We’re going to figure out what we’re going what we’re going to do about it. How do you how do you approach this now? Yeah, you look go back to the drawing board. Um yeah, I mean competitors competitors welcome. I mean I’m going to assume the uh you know what I know of our team is uh they’ll respond. Um and uh yeah, you look at look at what you’re doing schematically. You look at uh you look at who’s doing it, how they’re doing it, uh how you’re coaching it. I mean, you look you look at every uh every uh every possible aspect. Is is the amount of adjustments being pressured and hit still a concern for you for you guys offense? Yeah, we didn’t we didn’t do a good enough job in that that regard as well. All regards. Yeah. At this point, do you do you see that something that’s you guys, you know, made a trade and done things up tackles still being at a high rate? Mhm. Yeah, we just keep uh Yeah, we got to be better. Got to work to get better. How does this change the approach to the by-week for you? Uh yeah, that mean we don’t have a game this week and uh we’ll uh and we’ll get back together tomorrow. Like I said, we’ll be back together as a as a team and and we’ll figure that out together. Justin, we go to the medical tent at the end of the first half. What happened there from your perspective? Yeah. Uh I think it just had to come out. They had to examine for a concussion. All clear. Yeah. Yeah. Went back in. The Jags. What were the specifically that you guys? Yeah. We just didn’t execute. You know, I turned the ball over, played poorly, didn’t and didn’t make any plays. So, it’s uh on us as an offense to be better. How challenging has the pressure been for you this season? The amount of hits, the amount of pressure that you’re Yeah. Um, you know, I could have done a better job of stepping up in the pocket, getting the ball out quicker and, um, you know, the interception, we were down and, uh, you know, felt like, uh, we needed a chunk play and force something downfield and, you know, that’s on me and I I have to play better and it’s not good enough for this team. How much are you looking forward to the bye considering the number of hits you taken this season? Um, yeah, it’s always tough. You know, when you lose a game like that, you want to go back out there and you want to get that taste out of your mouth. And um I think it’s tough because you know now we have to wait a week or two weeks to go back and and play. Um but I think it’ll be good. I think a lot of guys will get their bodies back this week and um you know the rest could be good for us but uh wasn’t good enough today for us at all. How do you balance like when to throw the ball away to hold it? like how difficult is it to decide when to throw it away or when to like make a play, just give up on the play? How do you how do you figure that out? Yeah, it’s uh the the tough part about the job of of going out there and doing your best and trying to extend a play and maybe making something happen. Um and then too many times where, you know, I hold on to the ball and and uh you know, take a sack, an unneeded sack. Um and so that’s the tough part about, you know, sometimes a throwaway is better than a sack and um you know, living to fight another day. and you know whether you can make a play it’s it’s up to um you know where the defender is, what you can do and and where you can get out. Is that something you you battle with like finding that discernment of when to throw it away or when to keep it? Yeah, it’s part of the job and that’s you know why we watch film and and talk about it and then you got to trust your gut and you go out there and um you know try and play as fast as you can not think. Um but you know sometimes they get you and um you know I could have done a much better job of getting rid of the ball and not taking some of those sacks. Are you physically are you hurting more than you have been other seasons? Uh I mean it’s that’s part of the NFL, you know, we’re it’s a long season. Um you know, playing quarterback and stuff, you get hit and uh you got to get back up and um I think that this week off will be good for everyone to get their bodies back. Just with with the injuries you guys are dealing at tackle, just how difficult is to play when you guys can’t really get the running game going? I feel like against Pittsburgh, you were able to get the run game going and play off of that today. not able to get the run. How just how challenging is it offensively when that phase isn’t isn’t coming? Yeah, we just never really got uh you know set up. We we just never got in rhythm comfortable and um you know it starts with the run game and and we weren’t able to do that today and um you know it’s on me to to do a better job of getting those completions and finding those you know um easy couple routes where we can extend plays and and convert on third down which we did a poor job of today too. Um but uh yeah, we just weren’t in rhythm

  1. The Chargers quit before they ever put the uniform on. Why hasn't Derwin hit anyone hard in the last two years?
Compare the effort from last week to this week.

  2. Interior OL and DL, all 5 draft picks next year. 2 free agent edges, 1 free agent guard, and Tyler linderblum and we're set.

Maybe a good run stopping off ball lb to replace Perryman, and a decent upgrade over Darius Davis and (gasp!) Haskins for special teams. They all don't make mistakes, but none of them do anything special either.

An actual fullback would do wonders for this offense and send Mr. O'le Matlock and Fisk away, saving us a roster spot. A badass blocking TE that barely gets a catch (or doesn't want to), would be nice addition as well.

What are the redskins paying Bates? 20 mil a year? We need to find a Jr. Bates. A Master Bates, if you will. 😂

I can't believe we didn't at least try to sign Klotz to the practice squad. Or trade up for outzs. Maybe we don't end up with Gadsden then.

Hopefully we end up picking up a super big tail back in the late rounds, and get ourselves a RB we can convert to FB, like Lorenzo Neil.

If you put a big guy in the backfield like that with Hampton….that's some Christian Okoye and Barry Word type shit. Screw the tooch push. We would run over everybody.

  3. The worst oline ever in history every position need to
Be replaced next season Jim shud b a damn Shame it’s like someone pissing on you an calling it rain Phil ain’t get hit this much at all it’s pure e foolishness out there yesterday inexhaustible Herbert goin roll out just like Stafford did the lions keep fuckin around with his health

  4. That O line looked like Custards last stand. Did we really just put a bunch of guys out there who aren't athletic enough to play the positions and think coaching would win the day. We can't move our feet, we can't punch, we can't stop a pass rush unless we overset. Then When we over set they delay rushers or worse run stunts. How have we not figured out that they are gonna run stunts?

  5. PAT-FREAKN-THETIC, Jim. I love you man, but your team stole their game checks. They should give it back first off, then THEY should apologize to their loyal fans for that epic collapse. They need a reality check not a paycheck. Go to the food bank and hand out food, go to the soup line and spoon out soup for the homeless, take a ride in your car and cruise through the slums of the intercity. These are the people that support you.
I hear the same shit every time you knuckleheads lose.." Got to do a better job", " need to release the ball better" " I need to play better"" I need to tackle better" I need to catch the ball better" "Its part of the NFL, its football" …Its football? Tell that to the Browns. WTF is practice for?

  6. Justin, I love you man. You have giving us loyal fans hope. But COME ON…………You need to release the ball quicker. Go through your reads and throw the damn ball. Tom B, has a 3 second release Boom, not open, boom not open and BOOM there's your guy on a wheel. Yeah, the line is F'd up, so obviously you shouldn't be under center. Pistol, RYO get the frick out of the pocket and use the three deadliest weapons God has given you…your arm. Your legs and your brain. Been a Charger's fan since 1976, Justin. FREAK BOLT UP…

  7. Same old problem with the Chargers. They don't have heart, mental toughness, and discipline consistently from week to week. Losing 35-6 to Jacksonville, a mediocre team, is all the proof you need. They're a talented but weak team. Offensive line SUCKS too.

  8. After the loss to the Texans in the playoffs last year in which Herbert, who was pursued relentlessly the entire season and was hurried or sacked the vast majority of passing plays, the same HC said: "Justin needs time to pass the ball–we need to protect him better." So, after another year of basically leading the league in having Herbert hurried and sacked Harbaugh pulled his QB out of the game with more than half of the 4th Quarter remaining because…he was afraid he was going to get hurt…because he couldn't protect his franchise, top-tier QB. Whose fault is that? Well, going back to his comments last season, Harbaugh was the one who said he needed to protect Herbert much better and give him time to throw. But what did Harbough do the entire offseason? What did he do in the draft? What did he do in free agency? What did he do vis-a-vis UDFA? Basically, nothing to fix the terrible OL that the Chargers had last season. At this point, there is little doubt that the OL is worse than the one that let Herbert be massacred against Houston. Herbert is being wasted on this team. Harbaugh needs to go back to college where he belongs.

  9. They beat us all the way across the board. But what they won't tell you is that it's because they didn't prepare for the Jags to play their best football. They underestimated them in preparation and during the game when it came to play calling.

  10. Justin was a little low in the middle this game, but that's to be expected. He threw a lot of balls that could have created chances, but no one caught them. Justin is being absolutely wasted here, and I don't know why, but why is he under so much pressure from the press?

  11. the entire next year of the draft, you need to get whatever is left of Saban's coaching lineage, whatever is left of those Georgia boys and Oklahoma boys in the trenches.
