  1. We got Ellis for free. I’ve seen enough to say ok to almost any deal that takes UPL and his entire salary. Lyon, Ellis, and Levi are good to go. Let them battle for the top spot then move the odd man out next year.

  2. If they are dumb enough to give assets for UPL, I say we accommodate.

But I don’t think the front office are as dumb as the fans.

  3. It would be something like UPL + 3rd for Pickard (waived), Henrique (shipped further to get 3rd back), 1st to even consider, Oilers are the deseperate ones here.

So basically UPL for 50 draft spots and his cap hit Oilers problem, no retentions, McDavid took paycut for a reason

  4. This is why as much as we like to armchair GM, fans don’t run the front office.

Now that said – if they want UPL, they can have him. We will take one McDavid in exchange please.

  5. UPL could actually be an upgrade from them. He’s definitely better than Stu Skinner and has shown that he has it in him to be a great goalie. Classic change of scenery candidate. I wouldn’t be surprised if they gave up an NHL level asset for him.

  6. They probably need a team to take Skinner or Picard. Picard more likely… but I hope we can send UPL there…..what would we get?

  7. I don’t see a trade with the Oilers unless it’s UPL + Power for Nurse + Hyman and that’s not happening unless both of those guys waive their NTC

  8. The fact that Jarry is on this list and it isn’t satire tells you all you need to know.

  9. the oiler’s problem isn’t really their goallie.

don’t get me wrong their goaltending isn’t world class but their actual problem is a bottom 10 blueline. they have a very bad blueline. that’s what their actual problem is.

well their other problem is they need an old school goon to goon it up when someone touches mcdavid too.

  10. Who could an already struggling oilers team give in return that would make sense both sides? UPL is an asset who, like a lot of other pieces here, will be useful in the eventual restructuring of this team over the course of this next year. IMHO, Adams doesn’t get to make another trade unless playoffs look like a real possibility come the deadline.

  11. I think most of this is fairly accurate. UPL is definitely an upgrade to Stuart Skinner. Not MUCH of an upgrade, but still an upgrade. I think it’s really funny that some fan think we will trade Tuch and UPL and retain salary on one or both?! What are the oilers giving up for that kind of a haul?

I also chuckled at UPL being Ullmark 2.0. The 2.0 implies upgrade….

  12. Goalies are no longer expensive to acquire. Dream your little dreams, but UPL’s tippy-top value is a 2nd round pick (or equivalent). For point of comparison, Chicago got Spencer Knight and a 1st for eating half of Seth Jones contract.

Best case – we get Savoie back, or maybe Marjala. Worst case- any deal requires our taking (or finding a 3rd party for) Skinner. Because there’s no way Bowman tries to keep Skinner and bring in an upgrade. He’s pretty dumb, but not that dumb.

  13. i think it would be hilarious if they did trade for one of the few goalies worse than stuart skinner statistically but I dont see it happening

  14. It’s funny that this the game that seemed to really set them off. Skinner was perfectly fine last night by my eye. He allowed 4 goals on 4.35 expected. That’s a good UPL day

  15. I’ve watched all but 5 Oilers games this season. The issue with the Oilers is lack of defensive presence in front of the net, lack of offensive production, and maybe the biggest – is chemistry within each line.

Not sure UPL would be an upgrade at goalie – and as others mentioned they’d likely want to move Pickard and a defenseman – which the Sabres don’t need either really. Savoie has worked out so far in Oil Country and I don’t think they’d move on from Howard or any other young players.

The Oilers are kind of in a “the solution is in the room” mode. Kind of like the Bills this year…

  16. Don’t they have rights to Ingram? That’s a good option for them. A decent trade would help too.

  17. Five years too late. With adequate goaltending while the winning window was open, Canada would have Cups again. Good work, Stan Bowman.

EDIT: I didn’t notice this was a Sabres-specific post. Guess that just further cements Stan Bowman’s legacy as a clown. Giving any useful asset in exchange for UPL should be a career-ending transaction.

  18. I wonder if the Sabres are as eager to trade UPL as this sub is. Lyon is a career backup in his age-33 season who got hot for a month to start the year. Ellis has 4 NHL starts. In a potential make-or-break year for the GM and coaching staff, the risk of both guys going cold at some point might be too high to swap UPL for a non-first round pick right now.

  19. I know everyone’s down on UPL but he has had periods of starter-caliber play and starting goalies just do not move very often in this league. He’s not going to carry any team on his back but he probably *would* be an upgrade for the Oilers.

  20. The Oiler better fix their defence men situation before they worry about anything else. That of severely choke down their offence / forwards and play a very disciplined defensive system.

  21. I don’t see why we’d trade for futures, the cupboard is basically already bare.

If anything I guess we could ask for a 2029 unprotected first, so if McDavid demands a trade and they’re forced into a rebuild we get paid. But IDK how trading UPL helps in the moment.

  22. For KROM sakes I don’t care WTF we have as our goalie as long as it isn’t 3 effing people!! Ruff with this Goalie rotation BS again!!! PICK ONE and go with him. Have 1 backup… PERIOD.. F**KING EMBARRASSING!!
