No protections ahead of the Rule 5 list. Baggarly mentions that possible picks out of the Giants include:

Spencer Miles

Gerelmi Maldonado

Jack Choate

In addition, personally I'd also add Will Bednar and Braxton Roxby as very possible picks from the Giants system as well.

  1. wow they prefer quad-A arms like Winn and Beck who we have seen numerous times over protecting any of these guys

luciano and matos also still here for now

  2. Didn’t Crawford just miss a year with TJ or some big injury? Hunter Bishop not panning out isn’t news, that’s been clear for a while.

  3. So what happened with Hunter Bishop? He was hyped up when we first drafted and now no one talks about him

  4. I remember Larry Baer on KNBR saying the reason these guys stalled was because of the Covid year and there was no minor league season.

    That’s fair.

But you know who else had stalled development because of Covid? EVERY OTHER TEAM

    Edit: fixed the typos 😅

  5. These guys have been basically replaced by some of the trade acquisitions who while not necessarily stars at least seem like they can sniff the majors

  6. Bednar not panning out has been so disappointing, but I will say his K/9 was pretty nuts this year at like 14 something.

  7. Friday night is when we find out if Lucchesi, Knizner and Brubaker get tendered contracts. I think at least 2 of those guys will be non tendered which would create 2 40 man roster spots for free agent signings and/or trade acquisitions.

  8. Also re: Farhan era. We came into a position where we were going to rely on our young starters but none of them were ready for any kind of starters workload. I think they stuck with pulling them after the 2nd turn thru the lineup. Harrisonb was closest but multiple sources talked about him never going into the 7th. I haven’t heard anything but I’ve been hoping that bit of philosophy has changed in the BP era.

  9. Giants drafting outside of very specific cases (Ramos, Webb, MAYBE Bailey and Bart) has been ROUGH since about 2011. Same with their international development. Easily their biggest weak point over the last decade plus have been drafting and development.

  10. Hard to believe with all the coaching turnover Farhan’s front office is largely intact. Micheal Holmes has been in the organization since 2019 and was promoted to senior director of scouting in 2022. After Farhan was fired Holmes has been running the draft with little oversight and questionably drafted Gavin Kilen the Gavin Lux wannabe instead of the obvious choice Kyson Witherspoon the number 1 college righty with the 13th pick.
