Jim Harbaugh On Attacking Bye Week | LA Chargers
your thoughts watching that phone back from from SR? Yeah, you know, I I we got beat. Um and um you know, the positive of that is um we can learn from it and that’s and uh and we can be better for it. We’ll have that opportunity and that’s that’s what we’ll attack. What do you feel like are the most important lessons to take away from them? Uh really I mean that list is really what we’re compiling you know and uh you know any and every way we can. Any specific thing that you think lesson wise that you can take away from you know like I said like I said yesterday uh yeah we I we felt I think the uh we got beat every every which way you could be in every every every phase every situation situational phase of the game. were the cont with the team. Uh just that that’s that message. Um and you know and even even bigger than that is it’s um every guy in that room, every every player, every coach, every every staff member, you know, everybody has uh in their lives had uh issues that had to be fixed. Um, we have some football issues that have to be fixed, but everybody’s good at it. Everybody knows how to do it. Uh, they care deeply and they’re not going to back down. Um, that’s that’s what we’re going to do. I guess one of one of the issues you guys have had all year has been the whole line. I mean, how you you say it’s fixable. Like, how is it fixable at this point? Yeah. I mean, like anything, you can improve. That’s uh that’s what we want to do. Want to get better. We’ve had some we’ve had some uh Yeah, we’ve we know we’re capable. We’ve had uh we’ve had uh we’ve had games where we were more than capable, played very well. This game, we regressed. We had some we had some regression in all phases, you know, all you know, as I said earlier, we got beaten every every phase, but specifically with the offensive line. Yeah, we’re to to say that it’s unfixable. Yeah, I it’s uh that I don’t agree with that. I I said how how do you fix I didn’t say it was unfixable. I said, how do you fix it? Yeah, by by what I just said. you know, you just yeah, you know, yeah, issue identify the issue, identify, you know, how we can uh how we can improve it and then go about doing that. With Mai, he’s he’s played a couple of games from start to finish. Are you guys concerned about his health moving forward? Like yesterday, he was out for a series, Jamari Jabari came in. Is everything okay with him as far as his health? Uh yeah, I mean sometimes people are working through things. We’ve had this this discussion, you know, many times. How would you assess this season because um not going to do that, you know, not going to break my own rule of uh of going through and breaking down specific plays or a specific players, you know, game or play, you know, let alone a let alone a season. We are in the season. We are we’re in the middle of the season. We are uh we’re heading for the the home stretch. Um but I mean you you’ve talked glowingly about players that you felt like were playing well like Justin for example. You’ve talked about how he’s played this season. So why not talk about that? Yeah, I am I am saying we in every every phase um you know there’s no there’s no player coming out of this game that’s that is going to uh you know feel good about the game they played or coach we were out strategized I mean I don’t feel good about it. Uh now I look at the issue and go about fixing it. Just in terms of availability with Mott, just has it been disappointing at all the amount that he’s played. He’s he’s worked through some things at at times. And then uh last night you mentioned the physicality. Um so you’re out physical. Well, you you asked me were we out physical. I said yeah, we in every we were beaten every every phase possible. You know, there’s no way I could stand there and say, “Yes, we were the more physical team.” And you can’t really rate it’s you can’t like there’s no metric to say who was who was the more physical. In every way. I I said in every way, Daniel, in every every way. And you asked me specifically, were you out physicalled? The week before you said the week before you said you were the more physical team. Do you feel you were the more physical teamed uh in this game? No, we were not the more physical team. I there’s no way I could honestly stand up there and say we were the more physical team. You said we were out. Yeah. Well, my question I’m getting to is why do you think that happened? Why do you think we were out physical? Cuz we were we were beat in we were beaten at the game of football. Why did that occur? Uh yeah, those are that’s one of the issues we’re we’re looking at to address and fix. Um, just how do you make sense of the how the consistency of of you guys this season? Like when you the these kind of lopsided losses like what do you make of the consistency of the team? Like the stretches you guys have gone on three and up here and losing three or four and the way you guys are losing these games, these lopsided losses. Like how do you make sense of the inconsistency this year? Yeah, every game is a fight. Every game is every game is uh is its own is its own entity. That’s why we talk about it. One week one week at a time, you know, one one game it’s a one game season. That’s how we’ll approach the next one. Any update on Videl’s health? Um yeah, I think he he was clear to come back in play. Um what you think what did you think of the way Justin played yesterday? He had a career passing yard yesterday. Yeah, I I don’t think any player, as I said before, is feels good. No coach feels good um about how we played. Not only, you know, and uh and that’s how you you feel the most important thing is the team winning. And we didn’t do that. And when that doesn’t happen, there’s none of us that that feel good about it. uh with Trevor at left tackle um was isolated quite a bit. Was that the plan going into the game to to leave him on an island? Uh there were times that yeah, he wasn’t getting chill chip help or or uh but there were times that he was. Is that just part of playing tackle in the NFL is certain situations are going to have to be isolated? Um yeah that there there are times when that happens. Yeah if there’s can’t everybody can’t be doubled. Um but again you know not uh when it comes to the strategy piece. Yeah. I don’t I don’t I don’t feel like we I know we didn’t win that that piece as well. From a big picture perspective because we don’t talk from the locker room about just having faith and the the veteran offer. What do you say? What’s your belief in that group and the veteran captains? Yeah, it’s like I said, it’s the it’s the whole team I have faith in u and they do as well. I mean, very very tough men plus faith. That’s uh that’s what I believe. That’s what I think of our team and every single guy uh man, woman in the organization. You know, they’ve they’ve all had issues to fix uh in their life and in their careers in football. They wouldn’t be here if they weren’t good at that. I know they know how to do it. I know they care and uh I know they’re not going to back down. uh with Jamari when he’s been forced to play left tackle because of injuries during the game. It feels like he’s been able to to hold up in pass protection at a decent level. Is is that an option for you guys moving forward getting a look at Jamari at left tackle more? It’s an option. What does he have to show you to maybe get a start there moving forward? Um that’s something we’re that’s an option. And then uh for the fourth and seven late in the the first half um obviously you ended up having the penalty for the buff and the passer just the the thought process to go for it there. Um it’s around the 40 yard line. Yeah. Um yeah, wanted to be aggressive. Um knew they were getting the ball start the second half. uh wanted to put that challenge in front of our offense and uh and um you know felt felt good about it us you know we pick up we pick up those seven yards we’re getting points um we don’t pick it up flip it around and they have 26 seconds probably you know four to five plays to get 25 yards um so aggressively called to go for it there. Um it felt like they were able to attack in the passing game over the middle quite a bit. What did you see on film as far as what they were able to take advantage of over the middle of the field the passing game against you guys? They were very efficient. Uh they did a very good job of uh picking up first downs, holding on to the ball um both in the run game and that that uh intermediate passing game, you know, five to 15 yards. Um, and uh, yeah, they did a excellent job of taking what was given. And then just offensively, how did you feel like the receivers separated in the game? Uh, again, I didn’t it wasn’t our wasn’t our best. Uh, you know, we didn’t uh there wasn’t a a phase that or situation that that uh we won. And there was there was good individual play. There was uh there were plays made uh but overall uh yeah was was not in our favor. So tomorrow will try to be activated some point after the buy. Um yeah we’ll we’ll make that decision next week. All depends on how how he progresses as it as it has been. But how he progresses this week. Uh you guys practiced during the buy last week. Are you going to practice during the buy this week? It’s obviously a little bit later in the season. Yeah. Um so every every player gets four four days off. Um by rule, two have to be over the weekend and they have to be consecutive. Uh so that’s that’ll be Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday. And uh also felt like our team uh had earned uh two days, so two extra days and mainly a function of we’ve been this team’s been playing I think 15 straight games, 15 straight weeks uh plus all the way back to the start of training camp. So yeah, my prayer is that uh there is um that there is uh yeah they refresh uh regroup and uh and that’s for players, coaches and staff. Um come back ready to roll after today. It’ll be a full body talking about Tuesday and Wednesday. Yeah, correct.

This Oline needs a group prayer 🙏
Take the BYE seriously and work on that Oline. I’ll be at the Raiders game. First time catching a Chargers game in person, soooo please make it a good one!!
You got sludge hammered! Roman needs to go, the 0 line goes back to last season. What happened to the " quick passing game" that worked so well? They mailed this one in early, that's what is troubling to me!
Popper is a douche and a half!!!! Why does he want Jim to throw guys under the bus so bad? Such a douche!!!!!!!!
DId he say the O-line is fixable? If you roll THE SAME DUDS out there, there is no fixing it!!!! If you don't mix things up, it is not fixable!!!! Your Franchise QB is getting killed and you guys are not taking it seriously!! What a bunch of BS.
All of the linemen except for slater and Joe alt are not playing to 110 percent. They betting on Justin making a play all of the time. If you look at the films, after 4 seconds they stop blocking. They are all lazy and should be let go.
FIRE GREG ROMAN. HARBAUGH STARTS CALLING OFFENSIVE PLAYS!
Daniel is that kid that you don’t want in your class as a student. When you do you know it’s going to be a long year. I’m not sure why he finds joy in being annoying and asking questions that are already answered or specifically won’t be answered by the coach
Hey Jim Harbaugh your team absolutely stinks what are you doing about it😂
Man get that reporter Popper out of here. Crap reporter , don't need to poke and prod like he does.
Daniel Pooper
Popper might get cut before Bozeman 🤣
Daniel popper is a joke
#FireGregRoman
If you want Bozeman to be captain make him fucking speak at these press conferences. I want to see him get grilled
Dude let’s get healthy and add depth at tackles
1) Greg roman sucks. He cant help out Herbert by putting Tight ends to help block these horrible Lineman. 2) Jesse minter sucks at stopping the run and when he plays zone. The defenders stand still in one spot the whole time.
Jacksonville is a competitive team no doubt our
Players seemed to be a step behind which made it hard to watch especially the run defense
As great as Herbert is he can’t bail us out every week there going to be some teams that will take him away we can’t do it for them
Can we get Andre James at Center. If there’s ever a time to start working someone new it it’s during the Bye
This has got to be the worst part of coaching. Our best 2 Oline are injured and they don't fall on trees. This loss sucked but I'm a Charger fan and hang onto hope.
I hate popper
When the HC says that we need to "look at schematics", the coordinators are in trouble.
Bozeman is just playing for the paycheck. Why the heck did we extend him? Jim and the GM purposely went against what they knew was the right thing to do by cutting Bozeman, just to laugh at the fans and say "We're in charge, we know that we should cut Bozeman, but since you all are asking for it, we're going to extend him just to show that we're the bosses, and spite the fans."
I was ecstatic about last years season, did so much with so little, and now we’re doing less with more. Jim is good, but not great. The way the Oline was handled in the off season is a complete coaching failure and it’s his fault. He’s failing Herbert so far, and I was expecting the chargers to be a serious threat this year, which they’re obviously not. I have faith he’ll fix his Oline blunder next year tho. But this year looks like a wash and a waste of Herbert’s time and health. This is very frustrating to see from a coach you expect greatness from
I know there are many other Chargers fans that have supported this Team longer than me, but I've stuck around for over 35 years and I can honestly say, it hasn't been worth it. I can't bare to listen to Jim Harbaugh mumble around words and not focus on what is really needed to boost this Team to the next level. I'm tired of rooting for the Chargers to get into the playoffs just for them to be manhandled and put to sleep, over and over again. They say the worse you can do is loose faith… Well I'm there now.
Please relieve Roman and Bozeman of their duties🙏🏼
