Justin Fields BENCHED for Tyrod Taylor! Jets Sign Veteran Defensive Tackle | New York Jets News

What is going on Jeff fans? Matt Ori back with another video on this Monday afternoon. The New York Jets made it official. They are making the switch from Justin Fields to Tyrod Taylor according to multiple reports. It comes after a tough performance from Justin Fields. He struggled uh in four of the last five games and we discussed it after the game on Thursday. Aaron Glenn was strongly hinting at the idea of making a change on Friday and Saturday and they end up doing just that. Uh Fields passed for 116 yards against the New England Patriots which was uh a pretty big improvement from where he was. Um in the three of the previous four starts before that he was at 60 yards or fewer. Uh the Cincinnati game was his last really good performance. So he played well against Cincinnati. not dying that. Uh but in four of the past five starts, he has passed for 116 yards or fewer. They have the New York Jets the least amount of passing yards in the NFL. Uh they are dead last 32nd in the league in passing yards. I get it. There’s a run first offense. Justin Fields is not uh a quarterback who’s going to air it out and throw for 300 yards a game. That’s not what anyone was asking him to to do. Uh unfortunately it just seemed like you had the the Buffalo game was the first game where it started to turn and didn’t play well. Um he played a little bit better against uh Miami and then once you hit that Denver game from Denver on excluding Cincinnati was pretty rough. It stinks. I feel for Justin Fields like he unfortunately didn’t play well enough. I think Justin Fields a is a good kid and by all accounts and you know I think his teammates like him and he’s well respected in the NFL. Uh I just don’t think he gives you the best chance to evaluate the rest of the roster. And you look at someone like Tyrod Taylor, you know, I get it. The last time we saw him against Carolina in the second half, he really struggled 10 of 22, 45.5 completion percentage, 126 yards and two touchdown uh two interceptions, excuse me. Um the two turnovers wasn’t good. the completion percentage wasn’t very good. Um that’s about as bad as Tyrod Taylor’s maybe ever looked uh that that I’ve seen him uh against Tampa Bay a little bit better. He ended up having the the two touchdowns to one interception. There’s a lot of garbage time production in that game as well, but I just I I feel more comfortable with Tyrod running a more modern style offense. Um, and one where we can evaluate the rest of this team and coaching staff than Justin Fields at this point who like we saw success on the first drive of the game against New England. They ran 14 plays, 11 of them were rushing, three pass attempts and one of the pass attempts was from Isaiah Williams. So, they had uh they had Justin Fields throw the ball twice on the first 14play drive of the game. My theory on this, I think Tyrod Taylor would have started the Cincinnati game if he was healthy. If you remember, uh Tyrod Taylor did not travel with the team uh to that Cincinnati game because he wasn’t healthy. Uh and that week was the first week we really got that uh back and forth with Aaron Glenn. I’m not telling you because of the competitive advantage. Well, you know, with the information we now have and knew after the fact with the Tyrod Taylor not making the trip and not being healthy, it was pretty clear why he was doing it because if he said, you know, Justin Fields, then everyone would know that Tyrod’s hurt worse than what he is. And he couldn’t say Tyrod Taylor and certainly wasn’t going to say uh Brady Cook either. And you know, the Jets are coming off a mini buy. They played on Thursday. They have an extra couple days of rest. This is probably the healthiest that Tyrod Taylor’s been in in some time. And I think this is a part of the reason why now is a good time to make that switch. And like, make no mistake about it, Tyrod Taylor is not this team’s long-term answer. Uh I don’t even really honestly expect him to start the full next seven games, but I do think he does a better job operating in a more standard drop back passing offense uh than Justin Fields does. And we need to see what Tanner’s strength is as a first year play caller. There’s some positive signs, but let’s see it more consistently. Can we evaluate John Mchy and AD Mitchell a little bit more now? Uh, how about Aryen Smith, right? We He has like three catches in the last seven games. Mason Taylor, can we get more of a read on what Mason Taylor is going to be at this level? And like I just think Tyrod Taylor can do that better than what Justin Fields can at this point with where Justin Fields is. And you know, Justin probably needs to go to a situation where he’s just a backup and for multiple years, right? Like we’ve we’ve seen guys have late career resurgences and the Jets were trying to do that with bringing in Justin Fields. It just didn’t work. And I don’t necessarily blame them for trying to trying to do that. But that’s why you kept Tyrod Taylor around, the legitimate backup quarterback that you could turn to if things weren’t working out. And with Tyrod Taylor’s health concerns, like I said, Brady Cook’s probably going to have to play at some point. There’s seven games left in the season. Is Tyrod getting all seven? I would lean towards probably not. If I you had to guess right now, I’m going to say Tyrod probably starts another four games. Brady Cook maybe gets three starts. All this is subject to change, but that’s kind of just my gut feeling uh as we go right now. But at least for this week against the Baltimore Ravens, it will be Tyrod Taylor starting. Um, I don’t really think the Jets have much of a chance to win this game whether they were starting Justin Fields, Brady Cook, or Tyrod Taylor. Uh, but again, like I said, they are better positioned offensively with Tyrod Taylor right now. Especially too, right, like against uh the New England Patriots when they got down big in that game, it was very, very hard for them to throw their way back into it. And I think, you know, with how Baltimore is, if they jump out to, you know, a 10- nothing lead after the first quarter, Tyrod’s going to be able to, you know, you could th have Tyrod throw the ball 35 times. I don’t think you can have Justin Fields throw the ball 35 times. And you know, maybe at other points throughout the season that was something that was on the table for Justin Fields, but just with where he’s been at, I don’t think you’re doing the other 52 guys on the roster um a legitimate service by continuing to toss him out there. In some other Jets news, according to reports, the Jets are signing Kalin Saunders, a 29-year-old veteran defensive tackle. He was on the Super Bowl winning Chiefs in 2019 and 2022. He was a third round pick from Kansas City in 2019. Bounced around a little bit. He was in New Orleans for a couple of years. Started the year in Jacksonville. Really didn’t play a whole lot at all. He appeared in just two games. Uh but he’s a big boy. 6′ 324 lbs. You know, a beefier interior defensive lineman. Uh his best year was in 2022 when he had 22 run stops, 18 pressures, and three and a half sacks in a rotational role. Right. like he’s probably someone you’d want as like your fourth interior defensive lineman playing 35 to 40% of snaps. He might get more than that with the Jets. Although I would say Briggs and Phillips are still ahead of him on the pecking order. So he might be third on the team uh in snaps from the interior, which like I said might be a touch high for him, but with the lack of depth, I’m okay with giving it a go, right? You’re just bringing a veteran to fill in a role kind of over the last seven games. Uh, as I mentioned, he only appeared in two games with the Jacksonville Jaguars uh, this year, so I don’t have crazy high expectations for him. Um, this isn’t someone who I think is like they’re going to find their Quinton Williams the replacement, nor do I think really Mazy Smith is uh, a replacement. I would say he’s probably better than Mazy Smith. Um, Mazy Smith the bigger name as he was a former first round pick. Um, but yeah, Jets, I had a body on the interior. not, you know, a crazy lot to report on him. It’s not something that’s going to really push the needle that much forward, but their defense isn’t very good. Their defensive line depth, especially on the interior after Quinnon Williams after trading Quinn Williams, wasn’t very good. Uh, so they bring in a stop gap. I’m okay with it. Let me know your thoughts. I’m out Liry. I’ll catch you next time.

  1. Huh?!🤔 Really ? AG doesn’t know what Same Old Jets means? This switch is another example in a long 25 year line of in season 4:11 moves made to gaslight fans that Nepo Grandbaby Johnsons are interested in winning. They are not. NFL owners please force the sale of the Jets! 31 other teams to be a fan of instead at this point. Loser mentality all around.

  2. Well if Tyrod gets hurt and Glenn still refuses to put in Cook, maybe Breece Hall can be put in as the QB. At least he can throw to an open receiver under pressure.

  3. at this point , both fields and taylor are real life backups ..give the paying & frustrated fans
something to cheer for .. send in the new guy cook , why the hell not ?! we're playing the ravens ,and he can run fast [ in the opposite direction , if necessary ]

  4. FINALLY. Fields a good guy. Just throw the damn ball.He told us he would only take what the defense gives but he didn't even do that, seems like he has to physically see the wr open, then it's to late. Keyshawn would have told him so…

  5. The thing that JF defenders have to keep in mind as they blame the Jets for his lack of production is this:
Fields is solely responsible for going to NY. He had to have known staying in Pittsburgh was better for him as a player.
He took the guaranteed money and starting job anyway.
    That’s 100% on him

  6. Whats stupid is Fields didn’t even have that horrible game against the Patriots. It’s not his fault. His receivers aren’t able to catch the ball when he passed it, and it’s not his fault that the defense wasn’t able to make a stop in the first half.

  7. GLENN is now on the HOT SEAT. Clock is ticking, a little too late, the season is long gone and can't be recovered. If Taylor fails to turn the team around, the heat will be on the Head Coach.

  8. Maybe Woody can talk to the NFL about shortening the NFL field from 100 to maybe 30 yards this way fields will look better or he will just throw for 5 yards a game. I feel bad because I like fields as a person. He seems like a good guy, but Jesus he’s a terrible quarterback. After this debacle. After this debacle, I wonder if he even gets a shot with another team.

  9. We all know what tyrod is why aren't they attempting to evaluate cook in an extended look does winning games really matter at this point the recent jet coaches have this stubborn way about them but then again no one on this coaching staff has a clue about QB development none of them have ever done it they need help in that area lets hope they aren't stubborn enough to understand that
