LIVE: Postgame vs. Blue Jackets | November 18, 2025

Heat. Heat. N. [Music] Hey, hey, hey. [Music] [Music] Hey, hey, hey. [Music] Hey, hey, hey. [Music] Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey. [Music] Kyle, what do you think your line did well tonight specifically to generate? Um, just kind of kept it simple. Um, you know, early I thought we tracked well, turned a lot of the pucks over. Um, and then if it was there, you know, we we got a lot of possession. They had some good numbers at times and we were smart with it to the neutral zone and um, you know, started creating some movement and and got some pucks through and um, yeah, I thought overall, you know, all of us uh, you know, contributed. There’s been some swings in the lead over the last number of games, which isn’t characteristic for your team. Uh, how did you put a stop to that tonight? Yeah, I thought we did good coming out. um you know, their first goal I thought it was, you know, bouncing puck. It’s just kind of goes that way. It didn’t let us deteriorate from our game plan and um we stuck with it and um yeah, we’re able to able to keep coming and um you know, top to bottom. It was a full team effort tonight. Um you know, everybody did a great job. Um so it’s you know, you need that in this league. You need to be four lines deep and um you really showed our depth tonight. Not sure if you’ve uh had a good look at it. If you had, how would you describe Mark Shley’s pass to uh Josh on that goal? I haven’t had a great look, but just from, you know, uh my my view on the ice, um yeah, it was a great play like uh you know, had to go through two defenders. Um not sure if I’m sure he put it through a couple triangles and um you know Josh just had ahead and make sure he had a firm stick and uh kept it on the ice and Mark put it on his tape and you know he’s shown obviously his ability to score out throughout the year but you know we all know he’s a great passer and um he seems to you know whatever it is kind of pull a guy to him you know put it through the triangle you know he’s he’s got great hands in tight and um you know couple great passes tonight to show off. Speaking of hands in tight, were you looking off the off the mask or off the shoulder or what did you see on your um yeah uh just try to keep my feet moving wide and you know held it on the forehand to you know still be a threat. Um obviously it was a pretty wide angle just you know as it got down there the the pass was kind of taken and um you know as I was looking saw a little bit of room and yeah just put it upstairs. Last bank like that that I can remember off a helmet is Buffalo in 2019 against the Blues. Any chance you remember that? No. Okay. Play game three. And did it go off helmet? Is that what you what you pulled? I don’t remember to be honest. Yeah. Kyle, you played NCAA with Zach Winsky. Do you see any similarities between his game and Josh Morsy? And if so, what are they? Um, yeah, for sure. Uh, both guys can can skate. Um, you know, it’s, uh, you know, when you’re that type of player that plays a ton of minutes, you got to be able to, we all know about their offensive ability, but, you know, I think Josh is, you know, very underrated the way he shuts down and plays against the top line and can skate with anybody. Gets up in the rush. He’s, you know, he’s skating all the way up there, makes the breakout, next thing you know, he’s he’s back door from find a pass from Shy and, you know, he’s first guy coming back, so they cover a lot of ground. And, um, you know, in the defensive zone, he’s he’s our best defender, too. He, you know, he plays physical. He’s got a great stick. So, you know, just he he can kind of do it all for us and um he’s one of the best in the league for sure. You mentioned defense scoring. Three defenseman scored tonight. What are you liking as an offensive player to see that mindset on the Dour? Yeah, it’s just getting up the ice. Um you know, we talk about on defensive side if we’re forwards going to the for check. You can’t allow their D to beat you up the ice and you know, it’s so tough to defend a lot of times. uh you have the F3 and um you know it’s not clean threeon twos and um you need that fourth wave and I think RD have have shown great speed and obviously the ability to finish and and u you know shoot the puck. Kyle, you’ve alongside Mark Schiffley for many of his 898 games. What has it been for you to see him take those strides to become that player who is now the franchise leader all times player? Yeah, kind of flew under the radar. I don’t know if other guys knew, but I kind of had had no idea but um awesome accomplishment. you know, he’s been a pillar for this organization um for a long time. You know, one of my first draft picks here um you know, even you know, my first couple years and um just being mentors to so many guys and um you know, he leads by example. He’s also, you know, very vocal, caring guys, pushing each other and um yeah, he’s uh he bleeds Winnipeg Jet hockey and um you know, he lays lays his heart and his sleeve out there every time he steps on the ice and um so yeah, pretty cool accomplishment to to have that record. Do you [Music] [Music] feel it? Hey, [Music] hey, hey. Mark, what did you feel your line did to generate the way that you did offensively tonight? Yeah, I thought uh the first period I thought we played really well. Second period we kind of got away from it a little bit. Obviously got one and then uh the third kind of just tried to have speed, tried to, you know, have support. You know, they didn’t have a lot of plays through the neutral zone. So, um, was able to, you know, turn pucks over and and, uh, you know, reattack and obviously a good good shot by Casey and a good shot by by Stan there. Mark, Ari, you said earlier today that you wanted you guys to take advantage of the schedule with Columbus coming in a bit late this morning. Do you feel you guys did that overall? Yeah, I think so. You know, you know, the first game after a a long road trip, you kind of never know what you’re going to get. So, um, you just tried to get the energy up and and know that they had a they had a tough that’s a really tough back toback for those guys. So, um, we knew we just wanted to jump on them early and, um, you know, it was a good effort. Kyle said he didn’t know you were set to become the franchise leader in games played. How, how long have you been eyeing this? I didn’t know either. I didn’t know either. So, uh, obviously it’s pretty cool. Um, you know, been here for a long time, so feel old some days, but, uh, you know, obviously it’s a it’s a tremendous honor. Mark, in real time, how do you describe that play of finding Josh on the backside? Do you see that seam or just take us through your mentality coming over the blue line? Uh, you know, it wasn’t I knew we kind of had a three-on- two-ish rush. Um, so I was just kind of waiting for, you know, lanes to open up and, you know, kind of saw saw Josh starting to go towards the towards the back door and, um, you just kind of saw the positioning of the Dman. So, just tried to tried to, you know, make a good pass and put it on his tape and um, you know, great finish by him. Margin, knowing Logan Stanley so well, what has it been like for you to see him take that next step this season? Oh, he’s been awesome. You know, uh, obviously with Sami out to start the year. Um, you know, we needed someone to step up and he did a he did a fantastic job and now with with Sami back, um, you know, he has all that confidence. He knows he can, uh, you know, he knows he can play a great game and, um, you know, I thought I think he’s been absolutely fantastic for us all season. And, um, you know, I know he’s looking to just keep getting better and better. Do you expect that monster of a shock from the point tonight from him? I’ve seen it. I saw it in warm-up a couple times actually. He uh he can he can rip it when he when he wants to. And um you know that was a that was a snipe. You really celebrated that goal. How high of a jump is it to jump up and hug him around the shoulders. Yeah, he probably felt like I was a little baby in his arms. Um I was I was obviously very pumped for him. So that was obviously a big goal and um great shot and you know just kudos to him. Thank you. Thank you Mark. down. [Music] Do it. [Music] Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey. [Music] Hey, hey, [Music] hey. Heat. Heat. N. [Music] Hey, hey, hey. [Music] Hey, hey, hey. Hey, [Music] hey, hey. [Music] Hey, hey, hey. [Music] [Music] Philly and those guys. It helped where I had Lao against them and if I couldn’t then Bears line was going against them and I thought that all six guys did a really good job and no disrespect to the other lines. I just but the matchups worked out great. you know, put Shy against one one the other group and then and JT against their matchup as well. So, it it’s it’s nice when you have six guys that you can ri rely on to be, you know, to do the right things. I actually I thought everybody was good tonight in the sense of defending first and not giving Columbus a whole lot of room to work. What you see from the top line, Scott, specifically from those guys today? Wow. I mean, you know, a couple of highlight plays that that pass by Sho on the back door is, you know, that’s top end and, you know, obviously KC’s goal. Those those are plays that those guys make and then obviously I know setting up Stan for that the bomb there. But when they get, you know, when they get time and be able to make plays like that, that’s where you really see their their skill set come out. And we’ve got, we’ve been very fortunate to be able to watch it here for the last, you know, for quite a while. people that have been around, you know, watching Shy be here for a while and KC be here for a while that um Yeah, that’s that’s it’s fun to watch when they when they make those plays. And what does it mean for the back end to get a little bit more involved offensively? Three goals from from them this evening. Yeah. Yeah. No, it was big, especially P to get that first one, you know, on the power play as, you know, they kind of set it up there. You know, it kind of worked its way through faceoffs and JT winning some draws and, you know, they used the back of the net. I just I like the way that they kind of worked their way into that. But um when you’re D can, you know, add offense from that back end, it makes you that much more dangerous. talk about depth scoring and you sometimes you just look at the forwards but uh I think uh actually I think that Columbus is the highest scoring D in the league right now and that’s a big part of the game if you can have guys coming from that back end and being dangerous and you know getting their shots uh to the net or attacking the net uh as both uh you know as JMO did on his those are those are big and it puts pressure on the opposition. Scott, Mark has hit a number of milestones this season, but what can you say about him becoming the franchise’s all-time leader in games? Yeah, I mean, obviously he’s a couple games now away from 900. I know that’s first and foremost the franchise record. That’s, you know, that’s special. That means you’ve been able to be, you know, keep stay healthy. The other side is that, you know, you keep in he’s an elite athlete and he takes a lot of pride in his body and so that he can play, you know, close to 82 games every year. and just the consistency. Obviously, we know all the other stats that that have been building with his offense and um yeah, I mean, he’s I don’t think he ever I mean, he’s getting the recognition. I think there’s I think people are really starting to recognize there’s a real good hockey player in Winnipeg. Offense, oh, sorry, offense definitely showing up tonight, but Comry makes some big saves down the stretch there. What What do you see from this team when he’s in the crease? Uh, you know what? I think that it’s it’s everybody wants to win for either goalender. Uh but at the end of the day, when you’re, you know, your backup goes in, you want to be, you know, you want to make sure that you’re limiting the amount of opportunities that come the other way. But that’s one thing about comms. He uh he frustrates our our players in practice cuz that save that he made on the power play diving across, he does it in practice every day, once or twice. So, uh he’s very popular uh in our room. Um you know he’s around cuz he’s you can hear him. Uh but he is uh you know for guys to step up and you know obviously last year was a little different. We didn’t get him the run support. Um this year we’ve done a better job when he’s been in the net. One of your veteran you we don’t talk about as much is Dylan Dlo. I think he’s the one that Miles or Wood passed for his breakaway, but he also gets that block with Comry down and out. Where’s his game at in terms of what you’re looking at? Yeah, the way a lot more consistent um game to game, shift to shift from, you know, him and I had a long chat about it um in the summertime um at the end of the year and then in the summer and then at training camp. And you know, there’s a lot going on. He had he had a busy summer last year and I just thought this year he did a great job of preparing himself and it’s and it’s shown in his game. Um you know, with the injury to Sammy was big. Uh and him and J Mo playing like they have um the minutes are huge. uh being able to do, you know, some of the things he’s J Mo gets the offensive side, but Mel does a lot of good things defensively and I know he’s mad at himself on the wood goal because we had showed some, you know, that Columbus does blow out their wingers uh on some, you know, when out of their zone and uh but he at the end of the day he’s his consistency has been real good this year and that’s what we were hoping for. And just on on Shley becoming the franchise leader, um it seemed Connor didn’t necessarily know. Sh said he was just surprised by it too. But you don’t seem to you always seem to know these things. Was this one that you guys were tracking internally or did it sneak up on you too? No, no, we knew. We knew there’s another one coming in two day in two games too. So there’ll be a little bit more of that. We there we always acknowledge everything whether it’s at the pregame meeting um or on the ice, whatever. But yeah, this was kind of knew that was coming on the ice. So kind of let him get his celebration. Sorry, I got to admit my ignorance. What happens in two games? Just do the math. Do the math.
