Star fighting for love. Raise me up and sing my will. I’m fighting for love. Raise me up and see my way for [Music] raise up and see my way for raise me up and see my willingness. [Applause] [Music] Just uh reading a text here from some unknown named Jesse Blake. The Leafs have 36.76 million out tonight due to injury. Matthews at 13.25. NY at 7.5. That’s right. Matthew Ny is not playing. Lot at one and a half. Although he makes more than that. Tanv at 4 and a2. Nickwa at three, Carlo at 3.485, Rafi at 775. Boy, they actually could really use Marshall Rafi right now. And Anthony Stler’s at two and a half. Guys, if the Leafs are good tonight, it’s going to be a great story. But if the Leafs are bad tonight, they’re not the Leafs. So, I’m not totally sure that we could even be hard on them for it. Robertson, Tavvaris, Knander, McMahon, Doy, Easton, Cowan, Michelli, Quillin, Bla, Joshua, Laurance, and Cali Yarn Croak are your lines. Holy mother of God. It’s good thing that they they claim everybody on waiverss. And everybody, welcome Gripper Nation to game, I don’t know, 21, whatever it is. It’s not been a great season, but we’re here and we’re having a really faking good time all the way through it. Mike Bond 388 says, “Uh, that sounds like the end of a phone number. Let’s effing go, Gripper Nation.” All right, now let’s have a look at the stats. Uh, I love this because I I I just think you’ll find this funny. Uh, the NHL’s worst goals against team going up against the NHL’s second worst goals against team. That’s the Leafs and the Blues. Uh, the Blues power play though, a lot better than the Leafs. 22.9%. That’s good enough for 12. Leafs are sitting in 26, which is hilarious because let let’s be straight, usually um it’s the power play that juices your goals, but the Leafs are getting a lot of their goals at five on five. Leafs obviously have the edge in faceoff percentage. Penalty kill. Leafs have the edge. They’re still only 16th, though. The Blues penalty kill is well, it’s 30th in the league. Let’s get to the game. And it’s just started. I will read out the uh St. Louis Blues uh lineup in just a second, but I hope you guys have all had a wonderful Tuesday. And I want you I want you to know number one that this Balletbat SDPN stream is going to be a party. Second, we’re doing it again on Thursday. So don’t think that this is the last you’re going to see of me this week, baby. We’re going crazy. We’re doing lots of streams this year. I picked the right year to do a bunch of these. Right. Right. Yeah. Yeah. Oh, big shot right away from Matthew Joseph. Missed the net. All right, let’s get into the Blues lineup here. Gripper Nation, former Oiler and struggling guy Dylan Holloway who looked great last year. Robert Thomas and Jimmy Snugaroot, Braden Shen, uh, Dabore D’vorski and Jordan Kyru. Line two, Bavic, Hugh Sudter, Matthew Joseph, line three, Torpchenko, Sunquist, and Nathan Walker on line four. And in the defense, Broberg, Parco, Fowler, Faulk, and Tucker, and Matthew Kessle. I’ll be honest with you, I don’t think I’ve seen Matthew Kessle play all that much. Doesn’t mean he’s not great. Just not a guy I’m overly familiar with. Max Domen carries the puck across center ice. He is the Leaf’s second line center tonight, and he is going to have to do a lot because Jonathan Tvaris is going to get a lot of defensive zone stuff. And I’m curious about Jake Quillin who’s up from the Marlies. I believe he was a point a game player down there. Hopefully tops out as a bottom six guy. I guess we’re about to find out. Thank goodness they brought up Easton Cowan when they did. And here comes Bobby McMahon with a shot. Turned aside by Bennington. Cowan to Riley. Shot from Mecman Larson. He fans on it. Cowan behind the net. Blues Pareo and Faulk are on. It looks like it’s Faulk. Anyway, uh it’s either Faulk or Fowler. There’s a seven in that number. Riley shot in just misses the net. Oliver Rackman Larson at the other point and the Blues are going to be able to clear and change. And there’s Nick Robertson who’s got six points in six games. He’s been fantastic for the Leafs. It’s a good thing that 18 months ago they didn’t take his trade request that seriously because boy have they needed him. And if he wanted an opportunity, now’s the time. Nicholas, he’s making the most of it. There’s never a shift where Nick Robertson doesn’t drive. Never one. Oh, out front. Oh, and the Leafs just let in a goal. That is horrible defense. Woo! Absolutely atrocious. Absolutely unacceptably terrible and yet so very on brand. You know, it’s it’s hilarious watching this because Brad Shiv spoke to the media today. He was he’s very well spoken, right? Oh, look at that play. So, Snugroot gets that out front and it goes off of Knander and just in. Oh no. This is honestly this is the Leaf season in a nutshell right here. Watch. Nathan Walker’s going for it and Knander puts it in with his stick. Oh wow. Wow. Why did he do that? It was a high stick anyway. Why would you do that? Willie Hayden says, “I missed some super chats.” I bet I did. I bet. Dude, what was that? Oh my god. Here we go. Wow. All right. So, first off, we got um uh Casey says, “Sources say the the Knucks will trade comp for Grippers.” Dude, yeah, you’d think. Uh Cassie, shout out Cassie. She’s in the chat. She says, “Hi, Adam.” Hi, Cassie. Uh, Ryaku, best Canadian goalies with 10 plus starts, goal save above expectation over 60 minutes. Are Thompson Keer Greavves confident that is the Olympic threesome? I will guarantee you that Jordan Bennington will be the Olympic, not only on the Olympic team, but he will be the starter, but Logan Thompson will be his backup. Aiden Hill, I don’t think, will be there either. I think it’s going to be likely they’re going to defer to the veteran. Uh, so I’m going to say Keer on that. Uh, and Keer’s been pretty good, especially since leaving Washington. and he’s looked really really good. That that trade worked out well, I think, for both teams. Um, yeah, I don’t know. I like uh I like I like that threesome. It’s not as star-studded as the Americans, but the Americans top six are all injured right now. I don’t know if you guys have been paying attention to that. Uh, I’m going to get to uh some other super chats here in just a moment. Uh Henderson uh Henderson Breath says, “G. a Red Dead Redemption 2. Uh, I think I think we might have a I think we might have to get used to Oh, Bush Navage takes a player down and he’s the one that’s slow getting up and I think Bush Navage is going to the box here. Let me get to these super chats while we’re waiting Bush Navage into the box. Who’s, by the way, Bushnavich is apparently not having um having a good time uh in St. Louis. Natalie Drake says it’s homophobic to lose on pride night. Win for us gays. Hell yeah, Natalie. Thank you. David says, “On a scale of trades and fire everyone, are the Leafs right back uh are the Leafs. Where are the Leafs if they don’t break the skid by Thanksgiving? They are selling and they’re going to have to make a call on that pretty soon.” Cassie gifting 10 STPM memberships. Thank you, Cassie. Freaking rock. Crash chest fetus. That presser was funny AF as an outsider, wasn’t it? It’s It must be hilarious and the best not to be a Leaf fan. I got to be honest with you. All right, now Leaf’s on the power play. I’ll get to the other super chats in a second here. It’s Yarncroak, Tvarez, Riley, Cowan, and Nai. Not nice. Uh, did I get everybody? Yeah. Anyway, it’s a weird looking power play. Knander with a shot in. He’s got a goal at one side. Why not the other? Remember, here’s the rule. Knander giveth and kneelander taketh away. And today he started decided to start with let’s let’s give it away. 122 left on the power play. Tavvaris back to Riley. Leafs gain control in the zone. Tavvaris gets stripped. Gets the puck back. Riley or sorry, Knander along the halfboard. Oh man, great little play there. Knander to Yarncroak. Uh it was tried they tried to do a twoperson tic-tac-toe. It didn’t quite work. Knander controlling a lot of the play in the offensive zone. Top of the circle in front. Oh, and they had had they nobody could get a shovel shot off and both sides are going to change. Oh, and the Leafs have allowed the Blues to collect the puck in their own zone and Matthew Joseph did a bit of a a wraparound there. No Leafs were ready. Absolutely atrocious change. Absolutely atrocious. I wonder with Doug Armstrong in town if him and Brad Shivven get together tonight, have a couple cocktails, do something crazy. Make a make a crazy ass trade. Be like, you know what? Let’s let’s hug it out and and fix our trades, fix our teams. I mean, baby, are we having a good time? Listen, if the ship’s going down, I’m the band in the Titanic. We’re the band. We’re not jumping off. We’re staying on the boat and we’re playing our instruments as it goes down into the icy cold water. Okay, that’s what we’re doing. We’re having some fun on the way down, too. All right, here we go. McCabe shot off of off of ankle. Shot scores. McCabe with a weird floater. I wonder if it hit a stick, but it went top corner and absolutely handcuffs Jordan Bennington. Leafs are back in this guys. Uh Hayden was saying that the overunder on Ballet Bet today for this game was five goals. Five goals. Uh I would hammer the over. Hammer it so hard. Get on the Bally bet right now. See if you can hammer it. It’s free money. Oh, and I think that’s Dakota Joshua, but that might be that’s scary. Is he? No, that is not a high stick. So, so Joshua missed this puck. Okay. So, it is Mabe’s goal. Great man. Just as we drew it up, William Knander scores the first goal, but it’s for the Blues. Jake McCabe scores the Leaf’s first goal. Okay. Or Listen, I told you we’re we’re gonna have a good time. We’re here to have a good time. Lorent in the corner. There’s Kyu, who was scratched last week because his coach is just done fed up with him. That’s a It’s a weird thing with Kyu, man. Uh he’s had this stuff that sort of followed him throughout his career. He’s always mentioned in trade rumors and he’s so talented. He’s such a when he is on, he’s an absolute menace. Ooh, hard hit in the corner there by the Toronto Maple Leafs. And I think Justin Faulk fell. Weird. He’s up, but he’s sort of not skating. Oh, no. He’s up. He’s on. He’s fine. Or was it Cam Feller that fell? Oh, out front. The Leafs have no defensive coverage. Justin Faulk almost creates a goal there. Leafs pass the puck up. It goes off of Faulk into the blue zone. Blues collect. Robertson out there with Tavvaris and Knander. Again, I’m going to keep repeating the lines a lot because nobody’s used to these. This these lines haven’t been this weird since Mike Babcock’s first season with the Leafs. It’s like it’s like uh man, who’s PATO playing with tonight? Is it Michael Grabbner? Big save by Joseph Wall on a Pareo shot that skips through from the point. Icing waved off. It’s 12:50 left in the first period. Everybody, Gripper Nation, are you ready to have a good time? Uh Hayden says, “How long before we get some Bington shenanigans?” Well, the Leafs would have to run the net for that to happen. Uh and the Leafs don’t do anything around the net. They barely even go to the net. They’re barely even in the offensive zone. So, I think Jordan Bennington’s probably going to have a quiet night, actually. There is like zero for check on this team. And you’re seeing it now with the Blues. The Leafs get it out, the Blues corral, they reload, and they go immediately back into the Leaf zone. This is Toronto Maple Leafs hockey. And what I mean by that is it’s give the puck to the other team and let them come at us, which is bizarre. Got it. All right. Now, Quillin out there, number 26, Benois pinching. Quillin just up from the Marlies. This is his first game with the Leafs this year. Excited to see what he can do. Um, and I hope it’s good because they kind of need him to be. Sammy Bla out there with Matias Machelli and Jake Quillin because sure man, whatever. This is a uh this is bizarro game, but uh I mean it’s been a bizarro season. The Leafs have 36 million sitting out tonight. Now, right now fans, you are able to use the promo code SDPN to unlock a 100% profit boost each Saturday for the rest of the regular season. In addition to this, Ballet Bets’s sitewide welcome offer, which you should get on, especially tonight. 50 bucks in bonus bets when you wag your 10 bucks. Now, I know there’s some Blues fans in the chat. You might want to take advantage of this. Please note, it’s only available south of the border. But don’t worry, Ontario fans, it ain’t over for us. We’re working on an offer. It’s not quite ready yet, but we’ll let you know. Ballet Bet. Check it out. It’s the Valley Bet SDPN Tuesday night watch along with your host, Adam Wealth. Let’s have some fun. As I said, I keep saying that because I mean it. And and and partially because I need to convince myself that I mean it. Um now, let me get to some uh super chats. Uh Cassie says, “If I distract Adam with gifts, we don’t have to pay attention to the Leafs.” Oh, Cassie, that would be that would be great. The trash panda says, “What does the eightball say?” What do we want to ask the eightball about tonight? Here, I’ll just go straight up. Eightball. Magic eightball. Will we win this game? All right, you ready? Uh, and the Magic Eightball says, “Very doubtful.” And the Magic Eightball, I hate to say it, has been mostly correct this season. Very doubtful. Uh, Robert Bett wanted a eightball. You got it, Robert. Uh, St. Louis to the max says, “The best part about the Walker goal is it’s technically unassisted.” Cheers to the McKenna race. No kidding. I also noticed this week the Leafs are playing teams only named blue. It’s the Blues and the Blue Jackets. I don’t know why that matters. It’s just a thing that happened. Um Renim Pop says, “Where’s N?” Yeah. So, we’re going to have to have a chat about the Leafs and their medical staff a little bit. Why is it that we can’t get answers on anything when guys who are quote unquote daytoday end up being out for a month? Why is that? Why does that keep happening? How is it that Matthew N is sitting right now and we only just knew about this right before the game? How come How come I just There’s It’s a weird thing to criticize. I know, but there’s something fishy going on there and I just don’t know. Like, nobody ever has a timeline on anything. Nothing’s ever really clear. Um, you know, we are fans. We do spend our money on this. I do think that we’re entitled to a little bit better than this. And if the medical staff can’t provide timelines on that for anybody for anybody, like we never get like a six to eight weeks. Matthews last year was dayto day for six weeks like all of November and part of December. Ah he’s day to day. Ah he’s week to week. What does that mean? By the way he did skate today for the first time in over a week. Uh and Brad Living said at the press conference today oh here comes John Tvaris and Knander and they are offside. Uh Brad Living did say that Matthews will skate again tomorrow and will skate again Thursday and then they’ll have an update on Friday. I guess that’s the closest thing to a timeline we’ve gotten. It’s not great, right? It’s not great. Not great. By the way, uh for the Blues fans in the chat, in case you didn’t know, the Leafs have lost five games in a row. If you beat us tonight, it will be our longest losing streak since the David error season, which I’m sure is the season you discovered us. Many of many of you discovered Steve Dangle that season and therefore the Steve Dangle podcast and we’re happy that you did. Um but yes, David’s uh the David Ays season where they were absolutely atrocious. Um and that was also the co shortening year. Thank god. Um that is the last time they lost six in a row. Benois behind the net. You know what? I got to give Simo Benois credit. He’s been he’s been active tonight. Hayden just said Benny’s been on fire tonight. He’s he’s pumping. He’s going for it. I I appreciate the effort. Toronto is also, by the grace of God, outshooting an opponent 7 to3. I know it’s the St. Louis Blues, but we’re the Toronto Maple Leafs. Who are we looking down our nose at? Oh, Kyro with a nice move on Mervvis. Good save by Joseph O. He can’t get the rebound. Oh, did not get did not get did not get a good shot off, but that could have been super dangerous. Now, um Cassie says, “Does that mean us fans of other teams are in are on boats?” Hold on. Does that mean us fans of other teams are on other boats in the distance watching? Yes, I hope you’re making fun of us. Uh Chloe, hey Adam, I’m a Havs fan. No HS game tonight, so I’m here for the vibes, good or bad. Listen, whether the play is good or it’s not, I’m past the point in the season where I’m going to freak out about a loss, unless it’s like a unless it’s like we’re wasting our time here, right? The expectations need to be adjusted and they must be adjusted down. My mother always used to say, lower your expectations. And she meant it in a good way, like don’t expect too much of people. Expect of yourself and hope that others will follow through, but you must look after your side of the street. Right? That was what she meant. Our side of the street, whether you’re a fan of the Leafs, a fan of the Blues, or just a hockey fan who loves watching the Leafs lose, because I don’t think there’s a lot of like vicious anti-Saint Louis Blues fans out there. I think a lot of people hate the Leafs, though. We’re We’re adjusting our expectations. We’re bringing it down a little bit. Hey, if we get into the playoffs, man, we should we should throw a parade. That’s where we’re at. I need you to get into that headsp space. It’s a lot more fun. Trust me. Uh Justin or Austin Amino J2 JT has negative -2 points on my fantasy team right now. Hey, but he’s been he’s been pretty good for your fantasy team most of this year. Don’t be too hard on him. Uh Lelay Fulpstead. Hey Adam and Gripper Nation. I would wanting to know if you’d asked Jesse my alltime lineup question from the pen stream. I admittedly have only seen timestamps for meets podcast. We have not. Um Hayden, can you make note of that super chat? I want to make sure we ask that tomorrow on the show. Uh, I got to put that in my prep, but please make note of that. I want to make sure we get it in. Doug Leafan, is Austin overseas again? No, he is skating in Toronto. Robert Bet 1133. Uh, it it’s all because Toronto is not the real NHL. Boy, they sure don’t play like they’re in the NHL. Not this year. Woo. Um, Logan Prescott, you need to turn those handlebars into a lei. I know. I actually shaved the sides and underneath tonight for you guys so the so stick out. So, you really got to see it, you know. I’ll get to more super chats once play stops. 952 left in the first period. Quillin, doy and Michelli are out there. That’s two Leaf centers, by the way, if you’re keeping track. I’m not sure if Craig Barube is Oh, they’re in the midst of a change, I guess. So, Philip Thomasino, by the way, is on waiverss. I believe he was um he was traded the Penguins last year. was actually pretty good. Um, and it just doesn’t seem like it’s working out with the new pen system. I kind of wonder if the Leafs are going to put in a claim because I mean their second line center is Max Doi and they had Max Doi listed as a right-winger to start the year and then it’s all just gone downhill. You know, anytime uh you can get a 24-year-old centerman for free, I don’t know, you probably do it even if he’s not that good. It can’t be worse than what you already got, can it? Can it? Riley up to Cowan. Bounces off him. Goes immediately back to the Blues. Shots are 74 to Toronto. And by the way, I want to say that’s like a first in our entire streaming time together this season. We have not seen much of that, have we, Hayden? Hayden said that’s our that was their total through two periods last stream and he’s not wrong. They were awful and weirdly enough still in the game at least against Boston, not the other game. Tovarz tries to get the puck up to Knander. It is turned around by Snugarude. McCabe the goal scorer fires the puck around to literally nobody. Somehow Knander grabbed that. What? So, here’s what is killing me about the Leafs this year, and I want you to watch this. When the puck is below their red line and they can get it to either winger, they always like to fire it back around the board the long way, which gives the other team a lot more chance to grab it. Oh, here we go. Big save by Joseph Wall. And often times the Leaf wingers are not there to get it. Riley did it a few games ago. McCabe just did it there. And thank goodness William Knander’s got wheels. I I I don’t know if it’s the defense being told fire it around. I don’t know if it’s the forwards being told, please don’t be in position when they do. I’m not sure what’s going on, but I would, you know, one of the things that they told us in house league was stop looking at the puck and look where you want to place the puck. And I’m not seeing a lot of that in the defensive zone. Faulk. D’Vorski along the boards to Faulk. Oh, and that puck is clipped out. Hayden just said in my ear, “They are so slow.” I’m not sure which team he’s talking about. Oh, the Leafs. Oh, yeah. The Leafs are very slow. And you got to remember, Hayden is a fan of the Minnesota Wild, so he watches a lot of other hockey. Yeah. And Hayden Hayden’s like, I know slow hockey. This is slow. Oh my god. Wow. What a play. The Blues were in alone completely uncovered and I just don’t think player got it off which is crazy. Absolutely nuts. That was uh Matthew Kessle by the way. Number 51. I told you I was unfamiliar with this game. I couldn’t even pick him out. Number 51 Matthew Kessle. Shen Machelli along the half board. Puck down low to Morgan Riley. Oliver Eman Larson to Morgan Riley. Hey, a defense pair that actually seems to be working. Something’s better than nothing. Now, McKay Benoa a couple years ago worked really well for the Leafs and they’ve got them together again. Seems to be evening itself out and with Tanv out and he’s probably going to be out long term. Uh, and by long term I mean at least I would say another three, four weeks. Um, you know, you got to kind of any port in a storm. I guess it works though. There’s Troy Ster for the Leafs. This is his first game as well. Number 26. The Leafs injected a ton of new players into their lineup this off season. And what’s been hilarious is they’ve had so many injuries that they’ve had to inject even more new players into their lineup this season. There’s a lot of guys learning the system. Now, one thing you’ll know about Troy Stcher is that he’s not a full-time guy. Usually on any team he’s on, you know, you look at his runs with the Oilers the last couple of seasons. They picked him up the deadline a couple years ago. Uh he’s a puckmoving defenseman, smallish. Brad Trl living had him in Calgary before and the Leafs need a puck moving guy and you need a guy who gives a lot of effort. Troy Stetcher will give you that. Is he going to be a superstar? No. If you’re a Stanley Cup winning team, is he in the lineup every night? No. But he’s better than what they had. He is their second, I would say, like pretty major ma waiver claim. Third, actually. You got a Kaden Primo, Sammy Bl, Troy Ster, and and watch it be Philip Thomasino tomorrow. Just watch. By the way, I’m gonna get you some super chats here. I know I’ve been missing them. Um, Fishing 220 says, “Davids is my second favorite Leafs versus game behind game six of the 2002 Eastern Conference Final.” Fishing 220, you know what? How about you go fishing? I remember that game and I’m still upset about it. We had nobody healthy, much like tonight. Adam Declario says, “Uh, not practical, but I would love strict injury reports like the NFL has, especially with sports betting as big as it is.” Man, I’d like that, too. I don’t understand why we can’t have that. I don’t get it. Cassie says, “I may be enjoying this slightly after all the Crosby talk over the summer.” Speaking of, I’ve only I’ve had only had like two Penguins games in the last two weeks and I’m dying. Well, I’ll tell you this. Uh, you deserve to be enjoying this. every fan base outside of Toronto. I know we can be a lot. Just enjoy this. Listen, we always give you a reason to enjoy it in the spring. We always go out in crash out fashion. Always. We always get embarrassed on the way out the door. We don’t go out like the Blue Jays. We don’t go out with our heads held high. We don’t go out like champs even though we didn’t win. No, we go out like we didn’t care. That’s Toronto Maple Leaf Hockey. Experience it. And now we’re giving you a reason to celebrate twice in one calendar year because we’re doing it in the fall. Ah. Um, Tyson Barnett says, “Evening, sir. When was the last time the Leafs were hated or admired because they were not? They were a great team. Not hated because of the fans, media, whatever.” Uh, the Leafs in the Kujo Belffor era were hated because they were really good team and they were mean. They were mean, mean, mean, but respected. um like the Matt Sundine, like the height of the Matt Sundine era. Uh I would say that they were hated a little bit. No one could really hate the Leafs other than I guess that you could have hated the Leafs for the hype around them in the early Matthews Marner Neander era, but yeah, it’s been a while. Yeah, Hayden is reminding me of the hockey news cover that said plan the parade with those three players on it. I remember that hockey news cover and I remember being like, damn it, why are they doing this? They’re trolling people. I think it’s one of the betterselling hockey news covers of all time. And how depressing and tragic has it been? Did it need to be this way? No. Knander. Yeah, the Leafs don’t have a lot of speed. There’s not a lot here that can scare you. It’s It’s kind of a bunch of guys. And I understand that there’s a lot of injuries. This is why tonight if they win, hey, what a cool story. If they lose, it’s not really the Leafs. Uh James Demler, I mean, the Dominican Dominicans threw a parade for Vlatty. Yeah, but you have to remember the Dominican Republic does not have a baseball team and he’s a hero there and he made them all extraordinarily proud. I don’t I don’t uh I don’t hate that at all. That guy’s a national icon. He’s putting them, you know, they they look at a guy like him like he’s putting them on the map and uh other than as a vacation destination and I think uh he gives them a tremendous amount of national pride. I I really like that they did that. I think it’s lovely. What an honor for your country to throw you a parade. Like, can you imagine? There’s nothing in my life that I’ve done that would warrant anything close to any sort of gathering like that. I think that tells you something. Right. Here comes Doy moving through the zone. He gets in. Oh, and he’s slashed. And he’s slashed hard in the Is it in the face? And he is beaking. He’s mad. That’s a high stick. I thought he was slashed across the I couldn’t tell on the screen, but I thought he was slashed across the uh the hands. Looks like it was right in the fch. He wants to get four. Is he bleeding? He might be bleeding. He made a great move here through the neutral zone and what basically had Kessle beat and I just I missed where the high stick was. Oh wow. Okay, so that’s Tucker that gets him right in the nose. Watch. Watch. Right here. And wham. Oh no, it’s right there. Oh wait. Oh yeah, that sucks. But he had Bington. It was him and Biddington. Okay, so Max’s lip is is cut. Oh yeah. I was You know what, Hayden? I was just going to say that. Hayden just just said one of the truest things I’ve ever You know what? One thing you can never ma doubt about Max Doi, you can you can say, “Hey, he’s a flawed player. Hey, he makes bad decisions from time to time.” You can never say that he wouldn’t do anything to win. Uh, and you see that in the playoffs and and Hayden said, uh, Hayden said it wouldn’t shock me. He’s like, I wouldn’t put it past him to bite his own lip to bleed. I was like, honestly, if anybody on the team was going to do it, it’ be Max. So it is knander yarn croak howen Riley Tvaris. What a what a wild pl power play one. If I showed you that six weeks ago, you guys would be like, “What is this?” Preseason. This is crazy. I I don’t know. I don’t know why they didn’t put Robertson on this line, but maybe it’s because they want Willie to be the big shooter because I would imagine that the guys that are supposed to be digging are Cowan and Yarn Croak. I just don’t know at this point in his career what Cali Yarncro’s going to offer you offensively. I know he started the season with three straight goals and that was nice, but like I just don’t know anymore. Like is he a 15 goal guy anymore? I don’t think so. Cowan Riley Cowan at the point tries to sneak the puck through. It is blocked but Knander gets it. Keeps the puck in. Shot and it goes off a knee and bounces out. There is three minutes left on this power play. I think we’re going to get a look at PP2 in a second here which I personally am very excited for. Uh looks like it’s Michelli Doy Ecman Larson. I don’t know why Riley’s up there and Ecman Larson isn’t. That bothers me. Robertson and McMahon. So, it’s Machelli, McMahon, Doy Robertson, and Ecman Larson. Ecman Larson has easily been the Leaf’s best defenseman this year, and he should probably be on PP1. But hey, here he is. Maybe he can make something happen. They’ve got 228 left in this four-minute penalty to Tucker on for a high stick to the face. Ecman Larson to Machelli. Machelli misses the pass. It’s going to go deep. McMahon gets it. Gets it over to Robertson. Received it on his backhand. Robertson at the point to do shot and that puck goes wide and out and I think we’re going to get a a line change here. Ecman Larson makes one more stab at it. Doi at the point down low to Robert or to McMahon. Doi on the halfboard to Machelli. Machelli’s on the other side of the ice. Ecman Larson at the point to Dome. He’s got a stick up shot and that is blocked by the St. Louis Blues defense. I don’t know who blocked it, but he looks like he’s in pain. Oh, it’s Broberg and he just got back from injury and he took that one right in the chesticles. 50 seconds left in the period. 125 left in the Leafs power play. You hope beyond hope that they can get a goal here. It’d be really nice. Riley to Knander shot. Yarn croak shot and it goes off the post. 33 seconds to go in the period. Wrist shot misses. Tovar is going to try to get it on. Gets it to Cowan. Shot by kneelander. Oh, and it went off a stick and out. All right, there are scoring chances. We asked for scoring chances and there are. Okay, you know what I got to say? Uh, I want to thank the Blues for making both of our ridiculously weird power play units look pretty good. Pretty good. Elander Cowan Riley shot. By the way, for anybody dealing with blackout situations, my father-in-law just got kicked out of his login. So, he’s not allowed. He’s also Everybody’s been having problems with these TSN games and these blackouts because the technology, unless you’re watching on cable, they don’t know if you’re in the GTA properly or not. And so, it blacks you out of the game. And then Sportsnet, which does properly geoloccate you, will say, “Well, actually, you should be watching this on TSN. We can’t we can’t give you the feed.” So, my my my point to you is if both streaming services are blocking you, uh, yeah, you go ahead and steal. You’re already paying the bill anyway. It’s not stealing. Here we go. C with a shot. Oh, Eastston Cowan missed a golden opportunity. He might get another one. There’s 8 seconds to go in the period. No, man. East Cowan. Listen, I know he’s young. I know he’s young, but man, dude, you gota you gota you gotta right on the net, dude. You got to pace that thing. That’s got to be a laser beam. Look, he’s hanging his head. He’s pissed. He knows you cannot miss an opportunity like that. Wow. What a what a crazy period. By the way, good good time to mention in this Ballet Bet STP Thursday or Tuesday night watch along that we are going to be doing the final 20 which is an awesome game to play uh from BetMG or Ballet Bet. Uh that is going to happen after the second intermission or sorry during the second intermission. So we can party then. Hayden Hayden thought Hayden thought that the uh the cowan shot went in. Uh so he hit the goal horn. Um was not a goal. Was not a goal. Um Mi here says, “Trade for Matthew Olivier. Uh if we suck, at least the Leafs will kick ass.” Yeah, here’s the thing. Matthew Olivier doesn’t want to leave Columbus, and Columbus is not letting that guy go. They love him. Uh Blue Septic Booper, uh hope you’re having an amazing day. Well, thank you very much. I am. I am. James Demler. Oh, I loved it. I thought it was very wholesome. Thank you, James. Alex, I’ve said it before and I will say it again. I am loving the double weekly streams, Adam. Absolutely excellent. Thank you, Alex. And I know that you’re always here and I really appreciate that. Cassie, is Adam dying his mustache blue this year? I don’t think so. I don’t think so. Uh, Tofu Tommo, that blue shot on goal is totally off. No, right. I don’t know. You know, the the one of the It’s so frustrating. um the shots on goal counter because obviously with gambling they got to get they got to make sure they get the um the shots on exactly and uh you don’t know what a shot is or what the shot count is in a period until like the next period. Like I think the Leaf set out shot St. Louis 9 to4 but they review every single shot just to make sure it actually counts as a shot. And so that shot counter at the start of the second intermission is going to be completely different. It happens every period. So right now it’s looking like the Leafs are out shooting, but like lol, who knows? Who really knows? Uh all in all, not a bad period from the Toronto Maple Leafs. I would also say not a bad period from the St. Louis Blues. They did a great job killing a uh a four-minute five on four. There were scoring chances, but they they mostly kept the Leafs to the outside, the Leafs helped them out by missing every open look at the net. That always helps. But every shot that was going towards the net, the Leafs, or sorry, the Bru or the Blues were able to get a body or something or a stick in front of it, give them credit on that. Clip’s about 10 minutes. Okay, so here’s the deal. I’m gonna I’m gonna play this and what are we doing? Oh man, this is great. So this is hilarious considering the Leafs tonight. This is a clip of Steve being angry at the Leafs lineup. Ah, it’s so great. It’s so perfect. Um, uh, I’m gonna play this and then I’m going to see you back here for the beginning of the second period. Do not go anywhere. We’re having a fun fun night. And this is we call this a bottom of the barrel game. Two bad teams squaring off to see who’s less worse. Let’s play the clip. The lines today in during practice. By the way, Troy Stetcher led uh led the stretches. Um, Troy Stretcher. Aha. Hey, Robertson. Tvaris Knander. Okay, you’re going to love this second line. N Doy Cowan, stop. Michelli, Quillin, McMahon. Uh-huh. Joshua Lorent, Yarn Croak with Len Blé uh as extras and Nick W obviously absent. And then it’s Riley Oel, Ben McCabe, Mermis, Stetcher with Myers on the outside looking in. You know, I don’t mind Ster and Mervvis try it. Ster moves the puck, right? That’s the thing. That’s why they got him. Well, Riley Ecman Larson was pretty clearly their top pair against Chicago. Um, no, I mean, not all the time. Uh, Bubby did a bunch of different pairs. McKay Benoir are familiar. Benois actually I thought played better. Mermiseter, sure that makes fine. I don’t want to have a vendetta against this player. Uh, but we’re again we’re looking for solutions. If Lton or Wah was good to play tomorrow. So you got to put one guy in. Lotton might be still beat, right? Yeah. Can I tell you the guy I’d take out? I know who he was going to take out. Do me. Yeah. What are the good things he does? Great vision. Great vision. How many points he got? I don’t know. Not a lot. I mean, they How many penalties does he take? A lot. Yeah. Is he good defensively? No. [ __ ] no. Oh my god, no. Holy [ __ ] no. Tremendous liability. No. And like that’s one of the things the Leafs do really well when Matthews is out actually is they kind of all hunker down and they go, “Well, dad’s not home.” And he takes up uh an underappreciated uh he takes on an underappreciated amount of the defensive burden for the forwards. And when he’s out, they all kind of hunker down and he’s not capable. Max can’t do it. I saw that video of him the other day, you know, uh brings in the kid with with uh type 1 diabetes and and it was incredible. Warm and fuzzy. You’re not saying that Max is a bad person. He’s been such a great advocate. No, I know. But like you feel I feel I don’t like going at players like this. I don’t. Um and and especially repeatedly over and over again, but they’re hemorrhaging chances. They can’t defend the rush. He’s got to be the worst among them. He’s getting caved five on five. He’s getting [ __ ] like the shot attempts are they’re really tough now. He’s been used as like a utility forward Jesse all season long when he was supposed to be NY Matthews doy and we just never got there. He’s been playing the least amount of minutes he’s played since the 2022 season when he was with Carolina. like he’s not being utilized a whole bunch by Bub. And I think that’s fair because out of the gate injured in training camp, can’t really uh trust him coming back. You know, you want him to get up to speed and then he hasn’t shown anything that where it’s like, hey, you’re going to be our high leverage situation guy. And I still, even though Bub’s playing him the least he’s played in years, it’s still not enough. And I’m tempted to bring up everyone’s favorite film. It’s still too much. It’s still Yeah. Well, it’s it’s not enough of a solution. It’s still too much time. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I’m thinking the other way. Uh let’s let’s bring up everyone’s favorite film, Moneyball. Uh when they trade everyone so that the manager is forced to play Scott Hatterburg at first. Yeah. This player is giving you bad results up the middle. So, your solution is uh give him less minutes up the middle, but still play him up the middle. No, Craig. [ __ ] He’s not a center. Jesus, Lord. I thought we established this. And they’re still trotting him out there and letting him get killed every game. He might be a good winger on this team. We’ve seen him be a good winger on this team. He won’t put him there. Mhm. Ah, take him away. It’s killing. I would take Calli Arnro as a center on the second line. But I take any living breathing human being. Name one. Calli can play center. Name a living breathing human being. Uh Anderson Cooper. Jesse. Anderson Cooper. That would be a very handsome second line. Megan Trainer. Megan Trainer. Wow. Name any living breathing human being. Are the Leafs all about that base? There’s no treble right now. It’s No, I’m I’m ser like you have so many options. Yeah. And I can’t help but look at Jacob Quillin who just came up 61204. Kind of an [ __ ] 14 points. 12 of them are assists. If you’re worried about losing playmaking from your lineup, there’s your potential playmaking center. And does he know how the other half of the arena works? If he does, great. You can stay on this team. Does he? I sure hope so. We’re going to find out cuz he is playing center. Yes, he is. So, that’s good. If if he’s skating in place of Wah and I have to I am forced to. The rest of you are not forced to, but I am forced to watch Domi as the 2C of this holy smoking team. I’m going to be furious. And now wait for him to score two goals tomorrow. If I think there’s a time to give DOI another shot at it, it’s tomorrow against the St. Louis. Yeah, against the lowly horrible St. Louis. By the way, I agree. We’re doing the stream for that game. Yes. On the SCP YouTube channel. But like I think Doy makes they’ve invested in this player, right? He makes a certain amount of money where they need to try and see if this works until the final bidder end. He doesn’t break the bank. It’s not like it’s $1 million though. It’s not like it’s a minimum um salary player who’s a kid. You can send them down or anything like that. This is a vet who they’re paying a lot of money. They have a lot of years invested. They need to keep seeing if it works and then eventually make a decision cuz I don’t know if now’s the time to give up on it when you have so many people down. Like I don’t even know who who are you putting in that slot if Lton’s out and Blaze out and W’s out. I think Domi is kind of the guy on a Tuesday when you’re losing so much. Try it with Wah down and Len presumably still out. Fine. Thank you. Fine. And like what’s annoying is like I got a kid to eat carrots. Yeah. Oh, [ __ ] If you figure out how to do that, let me know. Carrots is easy, man. It’s the freaking broccoli, man. That’s where it gets hard. Adam’s wrong. Oh, Leo doesn’t like carrots. Carrots aren’t beige enough. Uh yeah, they do like children tend to it’s is it brown looking? Then they’ll eat it. Everything else beige vegetables then we might be able to get through the beigeh fried vegetables. Tapora. There we go. There you go. There you go. Um Leo, have you ever been to Makimono? Well, here we’re gonna go and you’re gonna Anyway, um I think Craig Ru is like, “This is what I got.” Yes. And here’s what’s frustrating about this player, staying on Tommy for a sec, is they’re going to play the Blues, who haven’t been good. I wouldn’t be shocked at all if he had like a two, three-point game, which again is what he that line, that godforsaken line of him, Robertson, and McMahon did against the Sabres last year. You’ve got to string together games where you not only look effective at the other end of the ice, you look serviceable. Mhm. In your own end. Yeah. Like I don’t I still don’t think Robertson’s a strong defensive player. you you highlighted it on the first goal, but like that error is 200 feet from your net and there’s three defending players in the way of it that can I mean if that’s going to sink you every time then you’re [ __ ] And like I also understand what Robertson’s doing in that position. He’s going at a player with speed and trying to lay the body like he thinks he can win. I had no problem with that play by Robert. No, you know, I I also love how Nick Robertson’s playing. He tries hard for it. He’s on his He’s still on his ass a lot. Yo, he’s right, Jesse. He’s on He’s on pace for 22 goals and 50 points. You can play on my team every night. And he The one thing about Nick, too, you can you can never see he never takes a shift off. I’ve never seen him floating. He even hustles back to the bench, which I can’t say for guys like William Knander. William Knander’s never hustled back to the bench in his whole life. He was the third best player on that line. I thought Willie against Chicago. It was Robertson Tvaris Willie. I thought he was the third best one. Mhm. A disengaged Willie. Knight at times. Uh Nick Robertson does have the Kevin Polar syndrome of you’re making a lot of diving catches, but a a better player would be able to get there on their feet. Yes. where Nick Robertson needs to try a little harder and get to those plays and he’s really it looks like he’s really hustling to get there and you’re like yeah but a better player would have just taken less strides and just made a solid play and would have never been noticed. So that’s why Nick Robertson’s never been a full-time NHL but he’s scored. He’s inefficient is the perfect word. One of the earliest podcast guests we ever had was a scout named Gus Katsaros and he talked about uh was it Koolamman skating? Inefficient strides. I was like, “Yeah, why does Koulan look like he’s in a kayak when he’s skating?” Cuz he’s it’s like this. And I’m like, “Well, he’s a hardworking player.” He’s like, “Yeah, he works hard cuz he has to.” Yeah. Yeah. Gus was great. [ __ ] I had never really thought of you have to work hard. He is doing it. Yes. You know, that’s the thing. Which reward him for that. Not every player who has to work hard does. Exactly. And that’s been part of the pro like part of the like listen I think Max tries his balls off. You look at the five the five games that these guys have played over this losing streak. You can’t say in all of them that they tried hard. No. Uh Nick Robertson, I don’t think in that time has taken a shift off. So I will give him John Tvarez hasn’t taken a shift. Hasn’t taken a shift off in his life. Yeah. William Knander we know is going to take shift shifts off. That’s just who he is. Uh we know he’s going to take games off, but the problem is right now. We can’t have him take games off. He is the option. Him and John. Uh Matthew Nise is having a great season. Uh it’s all lost by the way. Matthew I don’t think Matthew and I don’t think ever takes a shift off either. Add him to the list. Y um by the way I want I just want to throw it back for something. I remember when the when the Jays like 15 16 Jays were like you know the [ __ ] and at the in the offseason the MLB uh MLB network put out a list of the top 20 center fielders in the league and Kevin Polar didn’t make the list and I was like what what do you mean he didn’t make the list son of a and Jesse had to gently explain to me that yes he makes the diving catch but perhaps he could be better positioned and you know paying attention maybe a little faster and just catch the ball in the air. There was a great graphic. It’s It was the highest swung on home runs of the season. Okay. And it was all these dots in and around the the strike box and uh uh you know a fewer above and there was this weird dot way above everything and it just had Kevin Polar’s face on it. Oh no. because he just swings at the dumbest pitches in human history. Yeah. But he connected with one of them. It was like honest to god at least six inches above the the batters box. And not the batter box, the the the [ __ ] the strike zone. Thank you. Strike zone. And it and he went yard and I fear that that might have set his career back because he hit it and he’s like, I’m going to do this every time. I can do it. No, Kevin. All right. Now, stop it. Hi, we’re back. Was it a valid crash out from Steve or what? How about those lineup decisions? Lineup decisions. Uh Justin Fischer dropping 10 STPN memberships. Thank you, Justin. Justin is also running the STPN chat tonight, but he loves you and he wants you to be a VIP. And also Kevin Bull. We should call him Kevin Noble Bull because there’s no bull from Kevin. Just ask memberships. Thank you, Kevin. Uh, okay. Now, we’re doing some sort of blind ranking or something, Hayden. Or are we are we are we shelving that? We’re doing it. All right. What are we doing? Okay. Blind ranking guys were briefly leafs. How are we doing this? Okay. Ranking out of five. Okay. Give me the name. Oh, Lonnie Bahanas. That’s a That’s a five out of five. That guy scored every time he was up and they always sent him down. I love Lonnie Bahanas. Yeah. Oh. Oh, like is he fifth? Oh. Oh, I put him at number one. I don’t even care who else you put. Lonnie Bahanas is a number one. By the way, the Leafs are on the power play here. Hold off on this. We’ll do it throughout the period. Lonnie Bahanas. Who remembers Lonnie Bahanas? I used to play I used to when I used to take over the Leafs as a general manager in a game computer game called Power Play98. Look it up. It was my first computer hockey game because I didn’t have like Sega or Nintendo. Uh Power Play98. I played it on a joystick literal like like like pilot joystick. And I used to go get Lonnie Bahanas and I would pair him with Dimmitri Christ who was a Leaf for a minute. All right, give me the next name. The next name is Stafen Cromwell. Well, listen, I put him at number two because he had a great career. Um, well, not a great career. He had an okay career. Um, uh, yeah. No, you know what? No, not at number two. I’m going to put him at number four. He’s not the worst, but I was hoping for more. They they sold Stefan Cromwell like he was going to be Nick Cromwell, and he wasn’t. Red Wings fans remember Nick Cromwell. He was pretty good. Uh Knander, by the way, in the zone deep with Tavvaris and Robertson. The Leafs had one shot on that four-minute power play. Man, the Leafs power play stinks. All they’re they’re only good. Honestly though, you should be able to decline penalties in the NHL. The Leafs are only they’re only scoring five on five right now. And the Leafs are one of the highest scoring teams in the league, and they can’t score in the power play. This team makes no sense. Now, Jesse was actually tweeting uh during the intermission that um Craig Barub was yelling at the guys during the power play to skate off. The Leafs have always been in this era one of the laziest teams to go to the bench. You got to hustle hard to get back to the bench so you don’t get a six minute or you know too many men on the ice kind of penalty. The Leafs are awful. Awful. And it starts at the top. It starts with William Knander. He’s brutal at it. And I’m sorry. Listen, I know he scores a bunch of goals and he’s worth every dollar of his contract. But when you make that kind of money, I expect leadership. And when we’re losing, I expect leadership. And leadership is hustling. So wake up, boys. I’m going to be on you like white on rice. And you’re gonna ignore everything about me because I’m just a guy on a computer. Next name, Hayden. Former like very short tenur Leafs. Let’s go. Nikita Sashnikov. I like Nikita Sashnikov. I thought he could be uh I thought he could be like a good bottom six option one day and it never really worked out for him. He did play for the Blues as well. I think he did two, three years here and then I think he went back to the KHL. I have no idea if he’s still playing, but he was one of those young upand cominging exciting Marlies like Kappan and Jansen and Heyman. Um, uh, they gave Andrew Nielsen a shot. Uh, you know, that that early Matthews era, but it was like the second wave. It wasn’t quite as good, but the players were okay. I give him a let’s put him at five. He was fine. It’s not an insult, but he was fine. blind ranking future or sorry, excuse me, former Leafs. Um, oh, uh, Dom Lision and I were tweeting back and forth during the intermission as well. And Dom was saying, “Lol, they put Cali Arcroke on the ped power play,” which is kind of what I said, too. And I said, “Listen, I like Cali, but you probably shouldn’t be on the power play.” And Dom said, “I’m just going to step in here and say he’s not very good anymore.” So, I’m going to trust Dom on that one. I’ve I’ve tried to be a Cali Arcro apologist. It might be time to put my uh to hang up my skates on that one. Might be a bad take from me at this point. By the way, Leafs out shooting St. Louis 11 to five, which if you’re a Leaf fan, if you watched any Leaf hockey this year, you know how what a surprise that is. Joshua along the boards. Thomas Cook says, “If it came across your desk, Morgan Riley, for a first and a second round pick, would you take that?” Yes, absolutely. I don’t know, guys. I gotta be honest with you. I don’t know how this team really turns it around. Even if everybody gets healthy, I’m just not totally sure that they have it. I think they might be too slow. Um, I think that they’re not listening to their coach. Um, I don’t know. You know, they better I I think the next three games are key. They lose tonight and they lose against Columbus. We’re talking about a coach and a GM getting fired. Not that it would happen right away, but we’re talking about it seriously. Uh I don’t know, man. Next name, Hayden. Let’s go. Luca Caputo. Oh, Luca Caputi. He also became the front coach for a little bit a little while. Luca Caputi. I I wish it wasn’t a blind ranking. I would have had him. Unfortunately, he’s a first round pick that didn’t pan out. He’s at number three on my blind ranking, but he should be number five because I don’t even know if he played in the NHL. But he was a guy that everybody was like, “Oh, Luka Cahoot is going to be great.” And it just never worked out. Knander with a shot. Good save by Bennington there. 1715 left in the second period. Tvaris Robertson. You know, I’ll say with Tvarus and Robertson on the same line, you might not have the best skating, but you do have the most effort. And then there’s William Knander. Oh man, Shen pulled Robertson down there. No penalty. Robertson is the lightest player on in the NHL in his skates. Like, I feel bad for him, but he is constantly falling. Oh, he with a shot. Oh, Robertson was perfectly positioned, but unfortunately, I think that that broke a stick, so it hit a blue stick. Here we go. Shot from Tvaris. Bennington didn’t know where it was, but it hit him and it went into the corner and the Blues are able to clear. Shots are now 14 to five Toronto. Leafs might be bad, but maybe they’re not as bad as the Blues. Shot by Robertson. Hey, the Leafs are tripling up somebody in the shot department. Come on. In the second period, no less. Oh, Mike Brown at number two. You know what? Mike Brown deserves number two. So Hayden says in our blind blind ranking, Mike Brown is the last one. Mike Brown deserves number two cuz at least Mike Brown cared. But boy, that was a dark era when Mike Brown played for the Leafs. It was a dark freaking era, man. Woo! Owen. Um Justin says, “Roboy is at the game tonight. He noticed a guy a few rows below him briefly tuning into the SDP live stream. Shout out to all our viewers who were at the game.” Wow. Listen, I’m thrilled for that. We are happy to be your companion wherever you are. Sometimes when I’m uh if I have to drive on like a Saturday, if I’m I remember I was coming back from um Jesse and Alan Walsh and I were at were in London last January for the Ivy School of Business sort of there was like a sports business conference and we got to do a podcast in front of everybody which was super cool. Allan stole the show. He was amazing. And so we’re driving back on Saturday night and instead of putting on the radio broadcast, I just put Steve on. Oh, Cowan with a great move. Shot. Oh, it goes through, but it didn’t off the post. Oh, Cowan has had two beautiful opportunities. One on the first where he missed the net. And that one is just bad luck. Snuck it through the five hole of Jordan Bennington and it just grazes the post. You know what? Eastston Cowan anytime goal. Bally bet. Book it. It’s going to happen. Anyway, sometimes I just put on the YouTube app, run it through my uh car stereo, and that’s my broadcast. So, yeah, wherever you watch, wherever you listen, you know, we’re thrilled to have you along, and I’m going to be here as many times as I possibly can be this season. I’m doing a lot more streams than I used to because I really love it. And you know what? It’s kind of hilarious that the Leafs are bad. We’re going to have fun. Joshua is down. 1516 left in the second period. Leafs have come out on fire in the second period. give them credit. They rarely do. A win is a win. And you know, I I tweeted it and I said it at the beginning of the game and I’ll say it again. If the Leafs have a good game tonight, then it’s a good story. If the Leafs have a bad game tonight, well, they’re not really the Leafs, though, are they? Crazy who is out tonight. I’m just gonna go off the top of my head. Scott Lton, Austin Matthews, Marshall Rafi is also injured. I don’t know if he counts as a full-time NHLer, but I’m sure they would prefer him to Philip Myers. Who else is out? Matthew Nice was a late scratch. And of course, Chris Taniff. Uh, that’s 36.75 million. I think Jesse Blake calculated that. That’s just sitting on the bench injured. And at some point, we’re going to have to have a conversation, a real conversation about the lease medical staff. Uh, Anthony Petrelli actually tweeted something out and I think you if you guys don’t follow Maple Leaf Hot Stove, you should. Uh, Anthony Petrelli is the guy that broke the John Tavvarz signing eight years ago. Anony’s awesome. He’s a great guy. Um, he’s really plugged in, really smart. And, you know, he said, listen, they sit guys for next to nothing. and he he pointed out that last year in the playoffs they sat a bunch of guys who were supposedly injured and the only one that needed surgery after the season was Connor Der and it doesn’t mean that like you know you you could sit for concussion reasons or whatever but they sit guys for like the for no reason for the longest period of time provide no update and uh that the it’s it seems like the coaches and the GM are like I don’t know man I’m not even in control of this anymore. Robertson gets the puck. Man, look at Robertson in there pushing bodies around. I gotta give him credit, man. He just goes. He might not even want to be a Leaf and he’s trying hard. How about that? Anyway, I I uh Sorry, say that again. Hayden Hayden said, “Is that why he’s trying hard?” No, I think he’s Well, I think he’s trying hard because he’s got a contract to negotiate at the end of the season. He’s already making two million now. But if Nick Robertson can get 20 goals and 50 points, he’s going to be a $4 million player, three and a half, four million bucks. In a salary cap world where it’s 106, 107 million bucks, 50 points worth a lot. This is the opportunity of a lifetime for Mr. Robertson. Go after it, buddy. Get your bag. H Yeah, I’ll do it next break, Aiden. Anyway, yeah, the the the medical staff thing is going to be something that I am going to bring up on the show tomorrow and I’m going to read directly from Anony’s article and I and and part of it is like do you guys remember last year when Austin Matthews ended up in Germany in November. The Leafs were like, “Yeah, he’s dayto-day all month. Leafs played great.” Mner, I think that was the best hockey I saw Mitch Mner ever play as a Leaf that month. He was unreal. Unreal. Yeah. I don’t know. I don’t know. I I don’t I don’t like the way they handle things. And I you know, the other thing I want to say, and I said it on the last show, um and it’s hilarious. I Austin Matthews does not like to talk about his injuries and they all they keep telling us he’s healthy and we keep watching him play and he’s not clearly. They’re also giving him weird defensive assignments, too. But I I’m I’m sitting there and I’m like, “Guys, I have two eyeballs. I’ve watched hockey for a long time. I am not a coach. I did not play hockey at a higher level than single A, but I’m here to tell you that that player is not 100% healthy.” And if they would just say that, people would be like, “Okay, well, I guess he’s playing with one arm tied behind his back.” But when they tell you he’s healthy and then he doesn’t perform what are we doing? What are we doing? By the way, uh Troy Stetcher first game uh first game with the Leafs tonight. He’s looked really good. And if you’re an Oilers fan watching this going, “What? Really?” Like he’s he’s like best defenseman on the team good maybe besides Oel tonight. Um, that’s how bad the Leafs defense is. It’s bad. Go tell your friends who hate the Leafs to come watch these streams. Uh, Nicholas says, “Is there a Troy Ster hat-trick incoming?” Dude, I would I love I would love that. I would love that. Looking at some other super chats here. Uh, SLS, who’s the scariest Toronto reporter from the very scary Toronto media? Uh, scariest Toronto reporter, Kevin McGrant. Scary. Scary. He’s a scary man. Uh, yeah. Who else we got here? What else we got? Uh, how many more injuries until we see Alex Knander? I love the show, by the way. Thank you, Just Me. Uh, I think soon. I I don’t see why not. Like I I clearly he’s not a Barube guy, but I don’t Hayden said, “Is he on an NHL deal?” No, but he wasn’t on an NHL deal last year and they just signed him to one. Uh the the thing with Alex Neander is they don’t need winger help. Their wingers are pretty healthy. It’s the one position where you can say, “Yeah, that’s those are mostly regulars. Uh it’s the defenseman, important defenseman and centerman that are out.” Cowan behind the net. Back to Doi McMahon sort of supporting. Shen is able to get that puck out. 16 to five the shots for the Leafs. That’s right. You heard that. 16 Leafs, five blues. And the reason I need to repeat that is not to rub it in Blues fans faces. I need Leaf fans to believe that tonight they’re actually getting some shots. Man, what a fairy tale turned bad for Jim Montgomery. Gets fired by the Bruins mid-season. The Blues go on a crazy run when he gets hired there. They make the playoffs. They have a pretty damn good first round. Just just miss out on beating Winnipeg really. Like they give Winnipeg everything they had and probably like in you know that game that last game could go could go either way. It’s just the way it goes sometimes. And now they’re sitting at the bottom of the standings with the Toronto Maple Leafs. Oh, Jake McCabe’s stick just snapped in half. Oh, Holloway shot in. Oh, boy. That was pretty close. Robertson gave uh McMahon his stick or McMahon McCabe his stick. I think it’s McCabe’s off hand. Is M is Is that Is Mabe a left shot? I don’t even know right now. It’s Hayden says it’s probably a foot short. He’s not wrong. He’s not wrong. Good for Robertson, though. Heads up play. Damn, I love Nick Robertson. He’s making me fall in love. You know why? Effort. I don’t need you to be the best. I need you to care. And I don’t even care at this point if it’s self-involved. I’m doing this for me. I don’t think it is though. I think he is a good team guy. One thing that they always say about Nick Robertson too behind the scenes is that he doesn’t lack for confidence. He’s not an egoomaniac or anything like that, but he believes in Nick Robertson. And here comes Jacob Quillin. You got to shoot, Jake. Why did you pass? Shoot the pot, Jake. You were alone and it’s freaking Bington. Jake, here he goes. Another chance. Shoot it this time, Jake. Okay. Or pass to Riley. Shot turned aside by Bennington because it was easy. Jacob. Jacob, are you watching Mitch Marty highlights? You must shoot the puck. Please. God. Quillins look good, man. But you got it. You got to be shooting that puck. Here comes Sammy Bl. Sammy Bl shot. scores. It’s Steven Lorent. Let’s go. Fan favorite Steven Lorent. The fourth line gets it done. Blent and I think Yarn Croker on the fourth line. And Steven Lorent who gets like five goals a year. You know, uh the Leaf goal scorers tonight are Lorent and McCabe and William Knander’s got a goal, too. Unfortunately, it’s on the Leafs net. But great play by Sammy Bla here. Turns the puck back around. Shot and scored. Listen, against the Blues, you’re going to have that kind of room. If it’s the Colorado Avalanche or or a really, really good team, Sammy Bl is not doing a a back twirl like that. But it doesn’t matter. Puck goes in, baby. Let’s go. Good for Steven Lorent. That has to feel good. The Leafs up two to one. And they deserve to be. Let’s be honest. Like hilariously, this would be a game where you’re like, if they don’t win this one, uh they sure deserve to. And I thought they were pretty good against Chicago, too. And they were healthier against Chicago. Nice of them not to make Joseph Wall work that hard, but he is making great saves just like that one because the Leafs are prone to the biggest, dumbest giveaways you’ve ever seen in your life. And of course, it was Jordan flipping Kyru who obviously wants to beat Craig Baru because they didn’t get along very well. They were not fans of each other. But I’ll be honest with you, it seems like Jim Montgomery is not a big fan of Jordan Kyu’s game all the time either. Sort of an animatic guy. How does Qu How does Quillin not shoot there? Good lord. J. Now, Jacob Quillin, I believe, is an assist machine with the Marlies, which is probably why he didn’t uh shoot, but dude, you’re in the NHL and you’re in on a goalie. You got to shoot. 957 to go in the second period. Uh, Freak says, “What happens first? The Leafs trade everyone except Matthews and Knander or the Leafs fire and blame him and change nothing?” Uh, I think what will happen is we’ll know in the next three games. Here’s what I think is most likely to happen. I can’t speak to the coach being fired because I know that he’s loved by the CEO. Um, but if this doesn’t correct itself, and I I said this on the last podcast, if the Leafs are sitting in like 25th or lower January 1st, you sell. And the reason you got to do that, you got to make it that decision then because the Olympics are basically eating up most of February. If you go look at the NHL schedule, there’s like five days at the beginning of the month and maybe three or four at the end of February and then everything else is Olympics. And then as soon as they come back, there’s like a week or a little bit less before the trade deadline. So you got to know and you got to start negotiating and you got to start talking during the Olympic break or even before that and figuring this stuff out. And the Leafs have pieces that could get them if they if they have to punt on this season. They have pieces that could get them legitimate capital back. I’m not saying major prospects. We’re not talking like Brock Nelson for Callum Richie sort of stuff in a first round pick. But you could probably if Scott Lton comes back and plays well, you could get something for him, although you might want to keep him. Brandon Carlo is another guy where you go, listen, uh he’s clearly been injured, not played well, but we saw what he could do in Boston. Uh, that’s the type of guy teams trade for at the deadline. Bobby McMahon’s a guy that the Leafs that teams trade for at the deadline. You can rebuild your draft capital and then draft well at the draft and start to rebuild that system. Um, and there are a lot of guys available next year in free agency that admittedly are not going to be game breakers, but I would argue that the Leafs have game breakers. Nice kneelander Tvaris Matthews. I would argue that now I should let you know Ballet Bet SDPN Tuesday night watch along with your host Adam Wells. If you use the promo code SDPN, you unlock a 100% profit boo each Saturday for the rest of the season. Um, in addition to this, Ballet Bets’s got a sitewide welcome offer. You get 50 bucks in bonus bets when you wager 10. Now remember, this is USA only, but we’re cooking up something special for Ontario. Don’t you worry. Don’t you worry. There’s just a lot of rules and regs here in Ontario, and we got to be careful. But it’s coming and it’s going to be delish. Delish. As Natalie Drake said in a super chat earlier tonight, it’s homophobic for the Leafs not to win on Pride night. And damn it, they’re doing their best. You can’t be upset with the effort. There are so many regulars out. Anyway, if you’re if you’re talking about rebuilding pieces for the Leafs, I’m not saying it’s perfect, but I think you’ve got a pretty good four group of four or five guys to build around. Cow is included in there. And you know, a guy like Max Doi, valuable in the playoffs. Go look up. First off, I thought Max Doi had a great playoffs with the Leafs last year. I know he took some dumb penalties, but you take the good with the bad. He’s a $3 million player. Um, oh, Morgan Riley just I think he just took a puck. Morgan Riley’s hurt. Oh, he got hit. He got hit hard. It wasn’t a puck, but he seems like he’s okay. Think maybe just the wind knocked out of him. Please don’t be hurt. Um, the Leafs have guys that you can build around. Uh, you just have to make sure you got the right people building. And I don’t know. Oh, it was Riley and Doy that ran into each other. O, maybe just knocked the wind out of him. I hope it’s not a shoulder. I always worry about hits like that being like a separated shoulder. Looks like he’s okay. Anyway, I uh I’m I’m looking at this scenario and I’m thinking, okay, you’ve got a good like you don’t have to tear the whole thing down. People retool all the time. And I’ll point you to a really good example of it. the New York Rangers in I think 2020 or 2021 where they actually put a a post out on social media and said, “Sorry, we screwed this up. We’re going to retool this and build this properly.” And you know who built them into the playoff success and the and the Eastern Conference success that they were? Kent, Mother Effing Hughes. And the and the New York Rangers couldn’t get out of their own damn way. And they fired him for no reason. Oh, Jeff Gorton. Sorry, not Kent Hughes. It was Jeff Gordon. They fired him for no reason. There was a power play in the front office because the owner is allegedly nuts. And what has he gone down and done? He goes, he hires Ken Hughes in Montreal. This is Jeff Gordon. He’s the he’s the president, CEO, whatever his title is. And he’s built a monster in the Montreal Canadians. Patiently built a monster. That team’s good, man. And I know they’re on a bit of a losing streak. And I know they’re not perfect, but they’re on their way. And I’m I’m telling you, oh man, is McCabe gonna get a penalty for that for real? Why is he getting a tripping call for being on the ice? Are you joking me? I sounded like I was in high school. Scar, bro. Yo, bro, are you joking me? I’m from Scar, bro. I can say that. That’s a BS call, dude. There’s like What’s he supposed to do? He’s on the ice. Look. Like, he’s not even looking at him. Are you kidding me? He was trying to block a pass. What are we doing? That is not a That’s not a tripping call in the NHL. Please, please spare me. Dan Patrick, I sent S uh 10 SDP memberships. Thank you, Dan. I’m sorry I missed that. Um uh what happens first? Leave trading. Oh, So, I already talked about that. Robert says, “Question for your pod tomorrow. Watching baseball clips.” Uh, uh, Tampa Bay Jose Cal Calabella was traded to the Yankees midame while playing the other team and had to go to the bullpin. Has this ever happened in the NHL? Robert, I don’t know. Uh, Hayden, uh, make a note of that. We’ll ask our NHL historian, Steve Dangle. Um, Austin Amino, doesn’t Steven Lorren only score game winners? True. Hopefully that’s what’s happening. France Label just got in. What did I miss? Are they playing better? France Label. Yes, they are. But they are short-handed and they’ve not been great on the PK this year. But thankfully the Blues are only 16th, I think, in the power play department. I say that high because I know that I read the stat before the before the game started, but I don’t actually remember what it said. It’s on screen. Okay. Well, you can see that. Oh, 12th. They’re okay. Okay, so their power play is pretty good. And the Leafs penalty kill not that good. Yeah. 18th on the penalty kill. And there it is. He scores because the Leafs stink on the penalty kill. Cuz they can’t defend, man. They can’t defend. Especially cross ice passes. If you’ve been in for any of my streams, you know this. I say it every time. It’s like playing NHL 2012 again. When you fire the puck across the ice and spread the goalie out, instant goal. The Leafs cannot cannot defend the rush or across ice path. I I don’t know what happened. They don’t get in the way of anything anymore. It’s it’s nuts. No one there’s there’s so many lanes. There’s so many options. Anyway, pain and suffering, guys. And by the way, for all you sickos who are here just to watch the Leafs downfall, welcome. I listen my, as I said earlier in the game, my expectations are already lowered. I’m not expecting the playoffs anymore. That’s where I’m at. And I think, doesn’t Domision have the playoff odds? I don’t think Leaf’s at like 30% at this point. Ah, that’s rough. Unthinkable. Before the season started, I had them winning the division. I wish I could go back in time and be like, “Hey, idiot moron.” I don’t think anybody anybody in their right minds predicted they’d be this bad. And I thought the Atlantic would be wide open. One thing I did say is I I believe I put the Montreal Canadians ahead of the Ottawa Senators because I do think they’re better. And um I think I definitely had Boston making the playoffs and they are number one. The Bruins are number one in the Atlantic. The Atlantic’s kind of a crummy division this year, let’s be honest. But Jeremy Swayman is is in Boston and so is Hampus Linholm and Charlie Makavoy. They’re going to be fine. They’re at least fun to watch this year, too. Great. I suppose um Boston had their bad year last year. Maybe this is the least bad year. Doug Lee fan. Thank god the Lease raised their prices. Yes, they did. I think season ticket prices for this season alone went up at least 10% in most cases, which if you’re paying like eight grand a seat to sit in the Greens, which is like way in the back. And that’s what people pay per seat, eight grand, it then it goes up to like 10 grand. And then you add taxes on top of that at 13% or whatever it is. I could tell you this. I’ve had, it’s so weird actually, I’ve had, weirdly three or four separate Leaf season ticket holders in Toronto just randomly approach me and go, “Hey, I listen to your show and they’re totally screwing us and we’re super pissed about it.” I’m not kidding. Like, I’ve never asked the question, but I’ve had people say, “This is insane and I hate it.” I Go ABS go says taxes are 13% in Ontario. Woof. It’s sales tax, right? I think it’s Isn’t it 13%? It’s like part of its federal, part of its provincial. Yeah, it sucks. We love taxes in Canada. Love them. Oh no. Are you kidding? Is McCabe going again? The guy had the freaking puck. What are we doing? Why tripping? H. All right. I want to see that McCabe play one more time. Did it look Did it look like a trip to you? Did it look like a need to you, Hayden? I I want to see that. Right. Okay. Well, I guess we’ll find out. I I It did look like there was a player in the air. No question. And a knee did go back. But I I know the call was tripping because I believe G Ward Miller said it. So, it’s so much easier to be at the game and call this. Like I wish I wish that they would let us into the game and we wouldn’t have to show the game on this channel, but I wish we could just be in a press box in the game calling the game doing the live streams like this so I could see the ice. It would be so so so much easier. I I still can’t believe sometimes that sports networks don’t send their announcers on the road. I don’t know how you’d call it from a TV. You need to be able to see this stuff. I got to see this. I got to see this. I don’t I don’t know what uh uh Alex says all the other teams can deal with gay management penalties. This is absurd. Yeah, this is uh that’s a these are I listen I don’t want to I’m mad about the penalty, but then I want to see it again because sometimes you get mad about a penalty, then you see it and you’re like, I guess. Um working man2 says, “Adam, keep the facial hair. You’re pulling it off.” Uh Justin, can we get Can we get a uh a chat check in on the mustache? Uh because my wife hates this mustache. She wants me to cut it off and just be have it here. Obviously, we’re growing it from November. Um she hates the mustache. Hates it. So, I would love to know if you guys like it and if I’m actually pulling it off. I can tell you this, there are no women complimenting it. It’s only dudes. It looks like a knee. do you think? Okay. I I Okay, I’m just seeing it now, Hayden. I have to be honest, that to me is on the line. Yeah. One one thing I will say is the Leafs have had all the penalties go their way until the end of this period. So, this feels to me like they’re going to have a tight whistle because the refs need to gain manage here. And listen, you can call that a penalty or not, but I think even Blues fans would be like, “Come on, man. Are you Are you serious?” In the NHL, this is a It’s certainly not a call in the playoffs. We know that. Fowler Thomas along the halfboards top of the circle. Lorent is trying to poke the puck away. Leafs are playing a little bit tighter on the Blues, which is nice to see. But the Blues play their power play a lot tighter than the Leafs do. The Leafs really love the outside on the power play. The Blues seem to force teams to get a smaller diamond or a smaller square going. Snugaroo. Fowler. Thomas over on the left side point. Gets the puck in out front to Snugger and it gets past Fowler. The Leafs clear it. 113 left. By the way, the mustache poll is in the chat. Justin, send me those results. By the way, there are 1667 watching because 19 because 67 always has to come up. Not just because it’s 67, as my daughter will not stop saying at home, but because of 1967. We see 67s everywhere. They live under our bed. 326 left in the second. Faulk to Holloway. And nice save by Joseph Wall who has not been that busy tonight, but he’s been solid. Uh, France Label says, “That is a full-on porn stash.” Thank you, France Leel. Uh, Phenom says, “You need to add some chops. Sideburns would complete the look.” I think that’s what Jesse’s going for. Jesse’s got it’s coming. He’s going to shave it and he’s just growing it out. I don’t think he should have shaved his beard before Movember because it’s just delayed the Movember look we’ve all been waiting for. And by the way, please donate to our Movember page. I know money’s tight for everybody right now. It’s going to men’s mental health and cancer causes. Um, you guys know the stats and they’re pretty ugly when it comes to men’s mental health specifically. So, Movember does a great job in supporting that. 301 left in the second period. By the way, the Leafs, Woo, forget it. I’m not going to say anything. I’m just going to talk short-handed. Holloway down low. Oliver Reman Larson on him. Lorent trying to take the passing lane away. It’s nice to see someone trying to cover a passing lane. How about that kids? Doesn’t matter though. Gets out to Faulk who tries to get it over. Blues player couldn’t reach it. Faulk at the point. Shot from Kyu. That goes doesn’t go wide. And Jake McCabe is sprung. So we’ve got McCabe, Benois, and Oel out there. Half the Leafs defense is playing right now. And look at that. The Blues get a man in alone anyway because nobody covers anyone on the Leafs defense. Holy moly. We have three prime defensemen out there. Do something, guys. You’re just letting Jordan Kyu have an easy shot. Letting him walk in front of the net. Three of you looking at the puck. Come on. You started this period so damn well, right? So well kn to shot turned aside. Cowan stature out there for the Leafs. He’s looked good. Listen, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. Troy Statur, you are a treasure on the Leafs blue line. There’s Troy Ster, number 28. Brand new lead first game tonight. Shot to Mermis. Bennington got a shot or Bington got a piece of that shot. 116 left in the second. Broberg, that’s noted Alan Walsh client Nathan Walker. Also was on agent provocator a few years ago. Very nice guy. Really enjoyed talking to him. Oh, Suitor strips Cowan. Oh, wow. You know, that’s rookie mistake stuff, but that’s uh that’ll piss a coach off. I know you’re going to make mistakes and stuff, but Eastston Cowan, you cannot let Pew Sudter strip you like that in the offensive zone. You got to get the puck out. That’s been a problem for the Leafs all year. St. Louis can take advantage of that. 30 seconds to go in the second period. Felt like this period went fast. real shame that the Leafs had to take two penalties. I I think the I gotta be honest, I was not great on either of them. They were both to Jake McCabe. Uh I wasn’t convinced either were penalties, but you know, there’s a little game management going on here, too, because the Leafs got a couple of penalties go their way in their first period, and that is the way the NHL runs it. Pareo across center, 4 seconds to go. Gets the puck deep, which the Leafs cannot do seemingly at the end of this second period. Shots are 2216 for the Leafs. It was far more of a strangle hold before the power plays happened. Wool had to really bail them out uh on those penalties. Um I cannot believe Kyu did not score there. If if the Leafs had come out of this period, if they had scored there, if the Leafs come out of this period and we’re down 3-2, it would have been depressing, man. Now it’s time to sign up for the final 20. Producer Hayden, are you ready? Are we doing it now or are we doing it after? Doing it right now. I’m so ready. Producer Hayden. So flipping ready. Okay, now final 20. We want you to play now. How do you sign up? Click the link in the description. Come play this game. with the ballet bet final 20. It says with Vagel today it’s with Wild. Okay, listen. His name’s on the network. He can’t have everything. Okay, so we’re going to have a little bit of fun and we’re going to track how well I do. And by the way, if you play along, the winner, get inside for that $400 STP gift card. Okay, getting everybody signed up or we we’re just gonna keep waiting. Everybody sign up and we’re going to go through this and this is gonna we’re going to use our prediction skills. We’re going to use our magic eightball skills. Okay? And we are going to see the future because the way I see it, this game could go one of two ways. First way, Leafs come out in the third period the same way they did in the second. all energy, maybe not a whole lot of skill, but they make things happen and eventually they get a goal and they go up. Or we could we could have something where the Blues, building on the momentum of the end of the second period, take full control in the third and the Leafs are under siege. Based on the questions, you know where I will stand. I would like to know where you stand. And remember, $400 STP gift card up for grabs for the winner. Let’s do it. First question, pick a Maple Leafs player to record at least one point in the third period. Matthew Ny is an instant no because he’s not playing. Nick Wah is not also playing. So, don’t pick either of those guys. Obviously, both were late scratches. though. Uh, you could pick Knander, Javvarus, Ecman, Larson, Yarn, Croak, McCabe, Riley, McMahon, Doy, or any other Maple Leafs player. And since McCabe and Lorent are the goal scorers tonight, I think I’m going to go with John Tavvaris because it’s time for a star. And Tavvarus has had some good chance tonight. I like that. Number two, pick a Maple Leafs player to record a shot in the third period. Just one shot. One shot. I think the most likely to record a shot in the uh third period would be William Knander. So, I’m going William Knander. What about you? Third question. And remember, 400 bucks STDPN gift card. Pick the first team to record a shot in the third period. I’m going to go St. Louis Blues. I think the Blues are going to be the first team. I think they’re going to come out roaring. Blues will be the first team. Now, this is the question of all questions, and Chad, I’m going to take I’m going to take your advice, okay? Will the Leafs score in the first 10 minutes of the period? Will the Leafs score in the first 10 minutes of the period? Link was in the description by, by the way, guys, if anybody that wants to play, you can still jump on. You can still jump on right now. Link is in the description. Just fill it out before the period’s over. That’s all you need to do. Link in the description. I’ll say it 40 million times. Will the Leafs get a shot in the first 10 minutes of the third period? A lot of you are saying no. A lot of people are saying no. You know what, Hayden? Should we get risky? Let’s say no. Let’s be doom and gloom. I I I honestly don’t believe that that’s going to be the case, but let’s let’s go with it. You guys wanted it. Now, predict the exact number of shots by both teams in the third period. So, this is the exact number of shots in the third. Only in the third. Not the first two periods. Only in the third. If we kind of follow the trend of the game, first period the Leafs I think were out shooting I think it was like 12 to was like nine or 10 to four. Second period it’s like 20 to 14 or 15 or was it 20 to 16 where it’s always a variable thing because we never know until the third period starts. They always kind of review this stuff. I’m going to go ahead and say there’s going to be 16 more shots in the third period because there’s also, you know, they’re going to be fighting for a victory here and they’re both sort of bad. No, 16. Hey, you know what? No, 21. Let’s get crazy. 21 cuz they’re both bad at defense. By the way, I hope you hammered the over on Bali Bett’s uh any uh uh total goals for the game because it was five and they’re absolutely going to eclipse that. All right, Hayden, hit it. Link is in the description. That is your ballet bet final 20. And we’re going to follow this. Hayden, screen grab that thing. I want to make I want to see how many of these we actually get right. We picked John Tvaris to get at least a point in the third period. We picked William Knander to record at least a shot in the third period. We did pick the Blues to get the first shot in the third period. And because the chat is super negative, although you guys are a lot of fun. Will the Maple Leafs score in the first 10 minutes of the third period? No, they will not. No, they will not. They will save it for the last five minutes when they have to come back because the Blues will go up 3-2. And the tie breaker is predict the am exact amount of shots by both teams in the third period. Sign up right now, link in the description, and you can face me and we’ll see if you beat me. I don’t think you will. I don’t think you will. I got you, Aiden. Oh, hey, and you know what? I’m going to leave you for a minute. I’m going to get some water. Might even make a coffee and we’re going to play a little queue it up, which is the QMJHL highlights from this week. Check it out. Queue it up. Hello, bonjour. Steve Dangle. Should I not do that again? Should I? Okay. Hello friends, Steve Dangle here and welcome to another episode of Q it up where we take a look at the best from around the QMJHHL over the past week. I’m really excited to show you this first one because not only is it an incredible goal, but I get to take you way back to a blast in the past to show you how weird my memory is. Cue it up. Wow. Monton Wildats forward Simon Binkley is from Fairbanks, Alaska, but forget Alaska because that is a Michigan. The 19-year-old is having an unreal season in the QMJHL. He was part of the Monton Wildcats championship winning team last year in a smaller role. After coming over from the Vernon Vipers of the BCHL, Binkley played just 11 regular season games, but played 14 playoff games on route to a championship with the Wildcats. This season, oh, 16 games, nine goals, including that one, and 10 assists for 19 points in those 16 games. Now, you might look at that goal and look at the score and go, “Come on.” because Binkley scored a Michigan goal to make it 6- nothing. It was already 5 nothing and ironically it happened against the Ramski Osenique. So I said, “Wait a second.” I can remember a young Sydney Crosby scoring a Michigan goal when he was in the QMJHL with Ramuski. He’s behind the net. He scores the Michigan goal in a game where his team was already up big and Ramuski would end up winning that game 7 to1. Not everyone in the national hockey media loved that so much. Now, the only thing that would have made it perfect is if it happened against the Monton Wildcats. It happened against the Quebec Remart. Can I offer an opinion? This is a really cool goal. End of discussion. This is elite junior hockey. Everyone’s trying to win. Everyone’s trying to get to the next level. You score whenever you want and however you need to. Simon Binkley did. Now, that was not the last time that we would see the Monton Wildcats in a highlight this week. It was not the last time we would see Simon Binkley in a highlight this week. Let’s get the whole first line involved. Cue it up. [Applause] Holy moly. You never give up on a play ever. Alex Mccriier. He’s having an incredible season with Monton. He leads the team in scoring. He doesn’t quit on the play. Great stick check to start it all. He gets the puck to Binkley who sets up Teddy Mutrin for the finish. Teddy Mutron, by the way, a third round pick of the San Jose Sharks from this past June’s NHL entry draft, 95th overall. He’s got 14 points in 12 games in the QMJHL after coming over from the USHL. Teddy Mutrin, Sharks truther, don’t you know? Incredible goal by the Monton Wildats. That was awesome. Now, any fans of the Armada who are like, Steve, come on. You did us dirty there. I got you. Justin Carbano, queue it up. [Music] creates the turnover and finishes it off himself. Justin Carbono is having an unbelievable season for the Armada. In 16 games, he has 17 goals. Not points, goals. Add to that four assists. And if you’re wondering, hey, can my team draft this guy? No, they cannot. Unless your team is the St. Louis Blues, who selected him 19th overall in June. Yeah. Yeah, you might want to remember that name. For our next highlight, he doesn’t score the goal, but this setup from Ross Campbell of the Charlotte Town Islanders is filth. Cue it up. Halifax eighth overall at 79.6. and six of both teams on this specialy team situation in the top half of the league. Down in back of the net, here’s Ross Campbell. Turn around right off in front. They score. What a play by Campbell as he spinama moves. Will Shields will get credit for the goal, but what a play by Ross Campbell off the trapezoid. Does about a 360 and a turnaround pass. Lays it low on that blocker side. Eyes on the back of his head. Ross Campbell is off to an unreal start for Charlotte Town. In 18 games played, he has 15 assists, that being only one of them, in 22 points. He unsurprisingly leads Charlotte Town in assists. The person who actually scored the goal, by the way, is William Shields, who has 13 goals in the campaign. And this might not surprise you, he leads the team in goals. He had 18 goals in 55 games last year. He’s already got 13 through 21 this season. Not bad at all. And for our last highlight, do you need a goalie stick in order to be a goalie? I just checked and apparently you don’t. Here’s Montreal Canadians prospect Arei Radkov. That is fantastic stuff from Radov. What a journey for Radov, too. He played last season in the Russian MHL. He’s from Bellarus and here he is playing in his first season in the QMJHL with the Armada. He has a nice record of 74 and2 so far. Was just drafted by the Montreal Canadians in June, 82nd overall. That’s in the third round. And the 6’4 18year-old is making saves like that. Arcenny Radkov, my goodness. happy to feature you on queue it up. So, what did you think of this week’s edition of Que? Did we miss anything? Let us know in the comment box down below. But for now, that is it for this one. Thank you very much for watching. Click like if you like this video. Uh Denise Campbell says, uh has my Natalie Natalie uh Natalie, my wife Natalie, not Natalie Drake, uh has she started Christmas baking yet? Uh she was baking loaves of bread earlier this week and um uh she tried out this new sort of bread and it kind you know those dinner rolls that are really good around Christmas time. She made them fresh and she made a whole loaf of it dude. So good. So no she is not. Uh France Leel November donation check click the link. Thank you so much Mo France Leel. Appreciate you buddy. Maybe they need that.” Gay management or gay management? Who’s to tell? Uh, Alyssa says, “Happy Pride. May the Leafs be worthy allies by winning tonight. Also for all of us to keep our sanity. No flipping kidding. Alyssa says, “Happy Pride May.” Yeah. Okay, Alyssa, I already got you. I got you. I’ve got this this open on two screens. I want to make sure I get everybody’s super chats in. Good lord. It’s uh it’s it’s sort of funny um being a Leaf fan right now. $36.5 million just sitting on the bench. I include Marshall Rafi in that because honestly the way that Mermis and Philip Myers have played. Uh they could really use Marshall Rafi right now. They could use him. He’s he got really hurt in preseason. Like really really hurt. Hey, they’re showing clips of Chris Tanv skating. He didn’t play in practice, but he did skate. That’s good. I think he’s got a long recovery. Two concussions in 10 days. Yeah, you don’t rush a guy like that back. He’s He’s also like 36. Like ju don’t. The Leafs need to figure this [ __ ] out without those guys in the lineup. Go show some heart and soul and win some games. And you know what? Tonight they have. I can’t fault a single one of these guys for not trying. And look at that box. There’s Myers. There’s Tanv. Carlos is there. Lton is there. No Matthews. At least not in that view. It doesn’t mean Matthews isn’t here. France label says I keep I say keep the stash from a guy who who couldn’t get his marriage going more than three years twice. So you you pick stash over marriage is what you’re saying. That shot is blocked by Dakota Joshua by the way. It’s we have started the period and the lines are a little bit weird tonight. who I sort of will repeat them from time to time. If forgive me if you’ve been here the whole stream and you’ve heard them before, but I do think it’s worth mentioning because these are the wonkiest lines I’ve seen since pre-Matthews. I’m not kidding. They are weird. Uh Robertson, Tvaris Knander are line one. McMahon do Cowan line two. Michelli Quillin who has 14 points in 14 games with the Marlies. And Sammy Bl. And by the way, Sammy Bla had a great setup for Steven Lorent tonight. And it’s Steven Lorent centering Dakota Joshua and Cali Yarn Croak on the fourth line. Listen, that line might be where offense goes to die, but hilariously Lorent has a goal and um Blade on the third line has an assist on on that goal. Who knew? Tavvarz has looked dangerous tonight. Willie at times has looked engaged. Other times Max Doi has had a couple opportunities. One of his rushes led to a four-minute penalty. the Leafs. We’re not able to do much on that, but lol, it’s the Leafs on the power play. We should just decline the penalty. That should be an option because the Leafs power play stinks this year. It’s so funny. They’re among the league leaders in in goals four and it’s basically all at five on five. It’s crazy. What’s up, Hayden? Hayden says, “When do we get Michael Pazetta?” Well, that’s a good question. Uh maybe if they were playing the Bruins tonight, you’d dress Michael Pazetta. I want to see him play. I know he’s not like the greatest five on five guy, but like why not? He’s also crazy. Robertson with a great move shot. Oh, and Troy Steter in his first game with the Toronto Maple Leafs almost out of goal. Nice little shot there. Kind of fooled Bennington. East Cowan had a great shot earlier in this game. It went through Bennington’s pads and trickled towards the open cage and then sort of veered off to the left and hit the flipping post. He’s had a couple of good opportunities tonight. Look for him. There’s Jacob Quillin who also had a break in clean break in on uh uh uh Jordan Bennington and he did what Jacob Quillin does and he passed. He is an assist machine in the with the Marlies, but damn dude, you got to shoot. Robertson again has had a really really good stretch of games here. I mentioned earlier he had he’s had six points in six games which is very impressive for him and he has made things happen tonight and they’re actually showing a highlight pack of him now just throwing bodies pushing people off the puck. He’s not going to run a lot of guys over. He’s too small for that. He’s also not the heaviest player on his skates, but he does score and he does care and he does try and the Blues ice the puck. Oal beats them out. Oh, super chat says that it’s Justin Faulk’s 1000th game. Hey, good for him. Shout out to him. Thank you, St. Louis to the max. Uh, is that St. Louis to the max? Doing. Uh, shout out to Justin Faulk. 1,000 games tonight. Can he please get a game-winning goal? No. Maybe in his thousand1th game. Oh no. Oh no. The Leafs just gave it. Oh, Oscar Sunquist with a great shot, but the Leafs are able to get out of that one because Joseph Wall made a great kick save. Kick save in a beauty, as they used to say. She’s pulling up the St. Louis here. Another shot. Kessle this time. That would be Matthew Kessle. No relation to Phil, unfortunately. Wouldn’t that be cool? Uh-oh. Machelli’s going to the box. That is a shot over the glass in your defensive zone. The Blues were pressing as I told you they would to start the period. And they fire. Machelli just fires that out completely. That is a delay of game penalty every damn time. He knows it. He hates it. And the Leafs penalty kill, which stinks. Just stinks. Is going to have to take the ice. Look, if you’re a Blues fan, you’re looking for open passing lanes because that’s what they give you. Leafs are that by the way that um that snug rude shot was because I believe Morgan Riley pinched and uh please stop. Come on. It’s two all and you guys have played well. Hold hold hold it together Toronto Benoa McCabe Lorent and Yarncroak out there. 22 22 18 and 19 if you’re looking for numbers. And here we go. Another cross ice pass and oh, it would have been perfect. Not able to get a stick on it as Jimmy Snugger. Wow, that was a beautiful passing play by the St. Louis Blues. I’ll be honest with you, Blues fans, I’m happy for you, but the Leafs will make anybody look good on the power play right now. 108 left on this power play. Blue’s power play is pretty good. I think they’re what are they 12th coming into this game. They’ve already scored on the power play tonight, too. Leafs keep giving them opportunities, too. Like gift wrapping them. Would be nice if they didn’t do that. This is a really close game. This is the B. We call this a scraping the barrel game because it’s two of the worst teams in the league. Holloway. Faulk down low. Suditor to Faulk. Back to Suditor to Kyu. Back to Faulk. To Kyu at the blue line to Faulk at the blue line. Shot. Whoa. Makes the save and then it goes out. Beautiful wide open cage for Jordan Kyu, but he shoots it over and you could see him quietly say the f-word to himself. Boy, he’s mad about that one. Joseph Wall just got a piece of it on the initial shot. I think it was Snugaroo with the shot. Am I I got that right? And Kyu had a wideopen gauge. And I think Steven Lorent actually might have got his stick down and deflected that one. Oh, close, man. Close. This game should not be this close. The Leafs were dominating. They let him back in. Dan Patrick says, “Time to mail in this season and hope for a first overall pick. This team is not making the playoffs.” Sadine Magic 15 says that’s a nervous play. Buddy, welcome to the Leafs defense where they even when they touch the puck, they treat it like it’s a grenade about to explode. Don’t give me the puck. Don’t make me do stuff. Machelli is back on the ice. Joshua to Machelli. Machelli’s got the fresh legs. He’s with McMahon who’s got de deceptive speed. Least are going to want to change and get, you know, a scoring line out there. We’ll see who they got. There’s Tvaris. Wingers need to change. Mermis and Ster. And there’s Stetcher handling the puck, busting his buns with those skates. Not the most efficient skater in the league, but he can move. And you saw it there. He made a nice outlet pass and the Leafs put it into the zone. They didn’t get it deep though, unfortunately. There’s Steter again. Download low to Mermis. Stcher’s looked really good tonight. He’s got a real opportunity in front of him here in Toronto. He can actually be a top six guy every single night. They do not have players like him. And with Oel and Riley, if we can get Riley back to whatever game he’s got left, OL’s played great this year, it just gives them another option because Philip Myers just became like a non-option. You guys are watch. And I feel bad for him. He had a good year last year. JP says, “I’m curious if any uh college football if you know any college football tops toy game names with my state having the brawl of the wild this week. I’m curious. You know what, JJ, I don’t know college football very well. I apologize. It’s not my It’s It’s not because I don’t want to. Uh it’s just because I don’t I don’t have time. There’s only time for so many sports now. I need to talk to you guys about something. The fact is it is the Ballet Bet SDPN Tuesday night watch along. We’re going to do one on Thursday, too. Columbus Blue Jackets. Now, every Saturday this season, you can unlock a 100% profit boost with Ballet Bet. Use the promo code SDPM. This is in addition to Ballet Bet’s sitewide welcome offer where you get 50 bucks in bonus bets when you wag your 10 bucks. Now, please I need you to know that that’s only available in the United States. But we are cooking up something special for people in Ontario because listen, I don’t know if you’re a Blues fan watching us or if you’re a sicko watching us and laughing at the Leafs because you just want to see somebody crash out. Don’t worry, we’re going to have fun, but it’s going to be silly. Um, if you’re looking for something to do in Ontario, we’re we’re going to make things fun for you with Ballet Bat. We’re just kind of working out the particulars. It’s coming though. Uh, Draven says, “Saludos from California. Come have fish tacos.” Damn it. Also, where also are those your hockey figurines, Adam? No. The only hockey figurine I have, it’s not even up here. I have a William Knander Popsocket, but I also have We got this Max Fortoppen PopSocket. Uh, that’s what these are called, right? Pop pops. No, Funko Pops. Popsocket. What am I saying? Funko Pops. Um, but yeah, no, these are all Steve’s. And by the way, all of these hockey figurines are Steve’s hockey figurines that are leftovers, ones he didn’t already use. They were just sitting collecting dust. So now they’re my background. The books are mine, though. And there a lot of them are are new books. Kevin McGrand book in there. Rick Westhead’s book in there. Matt Sundine’s book in there that came out last year. Whoa. Tvaris tries to get the puck up to Knander. The Blues are doing a really good job smothering the Leafs through the neutral zone. And the whistle is blown because I believe it was a high stick by the Blues and uh they were the first ones to handle it. I have to say I’m I’m I got to give mega credit to our guy uh East Cowan tonight. As much as he was stripped of the puck, I think he’s doing an admirable job in the top six. It’s kind of like Matthew Ny in his first like full season with the Leafs. You know, he had 30 points. He was a really good player, but he wasn’t like the standout, but you know, with with N and with Cowan, you’re like, “Okay, we got some guys here. We got some guys. Matthews, if he was healthy, Kneelander is here. Tavvarus is here. If this season is a bum season and they happen, um, well then you rebuild or you retool. You don’t do a full rebuild and you got some good players here. All is not lost, Lee fans. All might be lost this year though. I’m not going to lie. All might be lost for Bub and Tr if this doesn’t turn around. We’re We’ll be looking at a new GM and a new head coach if this doesn’t turn around. But we can’t seriously talk about that yet. We are not deep enough into the season as impatient as you all are. Also, Bub’s owed something like 11 million on his contract. So, the Leafs don’t want to pay him 11 million bucks not to play for him. And Pete Dbor, if you’re hoping for him, he’d be just as expensive. And no guarantee that works either. They’re kind of stuck. Kind of stuck. Doi tried to feed Cowan. McMahon keeps the puck in, gets it to Cowan. Cowan cycles it back to Riley. Great play. Riley, shoot in. Shoots. The puck hits a blue stick. He is mad. He knows he missed a great opportunity there. And there’s East Cowan. Really great offensive instincts. The Leafs basically told him, “Listen, dude, if you’re going to make the lineup this year, you’re not going to be a top six guy. You can’t be you got to be a little bit more of a pest. You got to be a little bit more defensive minded.” And here he is playing top six minutes, just as we all predicted and playing them well. Playing them well. I I don’t blame Riley for that one. Sticks just get in the way sometimes. It’s frustrating. Robert Bett says, “Now I know the line which uh by George Carlin came from I can dream, can’t I? M He must have been a Leafs fan.” Yes. Any tragic hero that you know, perfect Leaf fan. Uh, I just got a question. Adam, what are your thoughts on Peter Lavolet if they want to go the route of gassing a coach? I think that Lavlet is a veteran team coach. I don’t think he’s young guy coach. Uh, and it depends on where the Leafs think they want to go. I don’t, guys, when I look at this team, I don’t know that a head coach can fix this. I think this is roster construction and I think it’s injuries. I think it’s roster construction number one and then way down it’s it’s injuries and there is a lot of injuries. So I don’t I don’t know like Lavlet to me I mean he’s had a great career no question. I think you bring him into a veteran team and if you’re going to go a little bit younger, which they probably should if this team does not do well this year, okay, then you’re going to have to find a guy who’s great at mentoring those guys and you know, yeah, kind of like what Sheldon Keefe was when he took over. Like Babs was not great with young players. We kind of know that. Uh but he was there to establish a culture because they had no culture before that. Um Hayden said he wasn’t good with veterans either. That’s true. He did pick favorites. Babs is just a bad dude. But um yeah, I think that if you’re going to go a little bit younger, you’re going to maybe maybe you do draft higher in the draft next year. Okay, cool. Um you’re going to need a guy who can handle that. And I’m not sure that’s I don’t know that it’s not Bubé. Maybe it is. Maybe they look at this and they go, “It’s not really Craig’s fault.” But my question is, are they even Are they even listening to him? And if they’re not, can you get them re-engaged? And if he can’t, can he be the coach anymore? McCabe knocks it down, but the puck is uh not out of the zone. 10:26 left in the third. Not a whole lot going on for the Leafs in this period. The Blues have come on strong as I told you they would. And look at that, a shot and a big save by Joseph Wall. Leafs left uh Braden Shen absolutely wide open because again defending the pass in their own zone seems to be impossible for them this year. Robertson with a nice little move, but the puck is stripped. France Leel dropping five SDP memberships. Mike says, “Hey, I’ve been an STP listener since 2016 and I’m not even a Leaf fan.” Thanks, Mike. Uh, perfect amount of polished and free, but Adam referencing sources then not coming true makes me ill. referencing sources than not coming true. I don’t know what you’re referring to, Mike. Sources tell you things and sources can be wrong. But also, like you got to remember, um, when a source tells you something, you have to take it as they’re more of an expert than I am and the source tells me this and you you kind of go with it. Hayden said, “Also, people change their minds.” They do change their minds. I have no sources on what the Leafs are doing. That’s for sure. None. Zero. Uh, Specters 46. Who’s the top Leafs killer of the decade? That’s easy. Brad Marshian. Next question. Hayden Hayden says, “Pastnack.” Yeah, I think Marian owns their their me owns them up here, which allows Pastron to score the way he does. You could also say Patrice Berseron. That entire line. Uh, W. Frasier says, “I’m the idiot who suggested Steve eat wasabi during the draft stream. I still want to send you guys a box of hockey cards to open up as an apology.” Well, you don’t need to apologize. That was hilarious. And the draft was atrocious viewing this year. I don’t I don’t know how you could have made it worse. It was so bad. Uh Alex says, “I’m over the Bubet hate. The players are in a market where they don’t have to work for their fans. Rogers is the worst owner. Team is entitled.” Well, there’s no question, Alex, you have a point on a couple of things. I don’t I think the Bubé hates overblown. I think this Leafs team their their lack of accountability goes back years and it predates Buru and it predates true living honestly. um when you consistently lose the way that the Leafs did in 1920, in 2020, and then 2021, um there has to be changes and the Leafs refused to make any. And that’s Brennan Shanahan. I put that at his feet. Uh you need to shock people. You need to be bold and make moves. And they just refused. They were like, I instead of being bold, let’s just be the same. And the same thing kept happening. It’s crazy. Uh Dan Patrick says the Leafs have to win 40 of their next 63 games to make the playoffs. Yeah, I’ve heard basically you got to be the the projections are that you got to have between 95 and 97 points to make the playoffs in the East this year. I don’t know if that means they got to win 40 of the next 63. I don’t know what that takes them to, but that’s the prediction. They got to win a lot. And to be honest with you, not sure they’re going to do that. Uh, this is a team that if they were good, they would stomp. But Blues fans are here and they’re watching and they’re going, “Wow, lol. You’re just as bad as we are.” Uh, Rex said, “Did Brad wreck Calgary or did Murray Edwards do that for him?” I don’t know if you guys saw the report today, but there is a report out there, one of the insiders, I thought it was Frank Saraveali, who said there’s a huge disconnect between management and ownership right now because management desperately wants to rebuild this team. They’re already basically in last place or close to it anyway. Get a great draft pick. Calgary’s never drafted first overall in their entire history. Trade Codry, trade Coleman. Uh maybe a trade Weaguer as well. What value that guy would have on the market like you’d be you’d be just raking in stuff. But their owner is a [ __ ] sometimes allegedly and doesn’t want to do that and thinks that they can build Oh, Tavvar with a shot. thinks that they can build around a core of Kadri Weaguer and like Hubo and guys I I don’t know how to tell you this. It’s over, man. Um, you know, get Dustin Wolf a young fun group to play in front of him. So, yeah. I I do I think TR Living was a part of it. He He was the general manager for 10 years. Of course, he was a part of it. I think one of the dumbest things he did was hire Bill Peters. Like they tried they they had to like give Carolina a draft pick to to hire Bill Flipping Peters who was mid as hell. Why Bill Peters uh and he also turned out to be a gigantic a-hole. Uh I never got that one. I think I think obviously as a general manager you’re going to wear some mistakes, right? Like Dubis needs to wear the fact that he overpaid for Mitch Mner. Um completely capitulated. That deal was overpaid from the start to finish. And it’s not that Mitch didn’t live up to it. that he hadn’t earned it. Um, so I yeah, I I look at that and I go as a GM you’re going to make mistakes. Uh, Tr what’s what’s important about the Calgary question is people forget this. Brad Tring didn’t get fired. They wanted to keep him. He said, “I’ve had enough.” And walked away. He resigned. When do you ever hear a GM resigning? So, you can you can criticize everything he’s done in Toronto. I will listen to that. But like, dude, GM said, “No thanks. I don’t want millions of dollars on my extension. I can’t handle this owner anymore.” Marshall fan says, “It’s too early for both of these teams to be think Is it too early for both of these teams to be thinking about Gavin?” Gavin McKenna. Uh, I’m from St. Louis and anytime I talk about it, other fans are against it. I don’t know why you would be against a good player joining your roster. Um, I did see something a report today about um, one of the other insiders, somebody I don’t even know if I called them an insider, but somebody said I I don’t remember who it was to be honest with you, but there was somebody that was saying that the top five this year could all be superstars in the NHL. That scouts are saying that. So, I talked to somebody who does that for a living and he wrote, “Lol, literally nobody is saying that.” McKenna seems to be, although he’s not played well at Penn State at all. Uh, not not well at all. Uh, Hayden says, “Mckennis Nugaroo would be gross though.” Yo, would Listen, it’s not too early for Toronto to talk about it. We got to have something to look forward to. So yeah, you go ahead and talk about it in St. Louis because there has to be something worth watching for. Are we selling hope or are we selling wins? By the way, the game is still tied 642 left in the third period. This third period has kind of gone by mostly uneventfully. Robert B said, “My father used to say, if the team is losing and they’re and they’re listening to their coach, it’s the coach’s fault. If they lose and they’re not listening to the coach, it’s the players fault. Um uh and you know, this team was top 10 in defense last year. It’s embarrassing. It’s true. Any chance of the Leafs uh pro scouts Eric Laqua on the pod? I can’t I can promise you he has some great stories and isn’t shy about doing podcasts. I’d love to have him, but I think the Leafs would block that. Not because we would ask him anything that would be crazy, but I just especially during the season uh the Toronto Maple Leafs are sort of loathed to have a lot of interviews because I mean Toronto’s just a hot market, right? There’s a lot of media everywhere all the time. I would love to have Eric Laqua on. I just don’t know that the Leafs are going to go approving that. Falas Faulk on the blue line 615 St. Louis pushing here. Fourth line for the Leafs out there. It’s Lorent. I think Robertson’s with them and BL Robert. Oh, because they were midway through a change. Now it’s Robertson, Knander, and Tvaris. Oh, Yarn Croak is out. What is going on? So, Benoa Joshua Joshua trips it chips it up to Yarn Croak. It’s intercepted by Sunquist. Tvaris with the puck. flips it in. Why do we have Yarn Croak Tavvaris? Oh, there’s Willie. Why is Okay, I guess Robertson was out there too early. Yarn Croak just missed a great opportunity. Great setup by Willie and great play by Tavaris there to get something going. I I got to tell you guys, listen, Blues fans, Leaf fans, I love you. We don’t have good teams here. That’s why this game’s so entertaining. They’re both bad. They’re both around the same level. Uh, Wind Walker 57. How often does a first pick actually get a team to win? Seems to me they usually spend a few years stuck on a bad team before winning somewhere. That tends to be what happens in the NHL. Like Austin stepped in and scored 40, but remember the Leafs also had Knander and Mner in their first seasons and they had JVR, Tyler Bozac, Nazim Cadri, Morgan Riley was there, you know, uh, they had a breakout season from Nikita Zitzv, the only good season he had in the NHL. Jake Gardner, they signed Freddy or they traded for Freddy Anderson. Like there was a lot of things that had to happen. Whereas you look at last year Mlin Celibbrini and Will Smith and Will Ecklland. Oh, McMahon with a great move shot and that’s gloved by Bennington and he’s going to hold. Nice little move by uh McMahon. Um usually, yeah, it takes a couple years. But this is my point with the Leafs is that like kind of like with the Rangers about three, four years ago. Well, okay, maybe it’s longer than that now. Whenever they signed Panaran the year before that, they said, “We’re retooling. We’re going to trade some old guys out. We’re going to get some new guys in. We’re going to draft high.” And then Panaran became available. They brought him in and all of a sudden they were, you know, East favorites again. And they rebuilt quickly. Jeff Gorton, by the way, Jeff Gorton was the mastermind there. Um, I think the Leafs already have players, I think we know this, players in the system that if they’re healthy and if they’re firing on all cylinders, they’re a threat. I don’t know that they have enough in terms of what they need on defense. I think their goalenders are good. So, like, you know, can you can you ship out a bunch of guys at the deadline this year if it happens to go that way? Sell sell. grab some draft capital. Use some of it to trade. Use some of it to draft. Um even if you don’t get like a Gavin McKenna, you gota like if you’re going to miss the playoffs, you got to get a couple first round picks. You do. You do because Boston, unless you’re drafting in the top five, has your pick. Uh Stickwood says if they miss the playoffs this year, I honestly believe it will be the best thing for them. Well, it all depends on how they handle it. Like remember, they could screw that up, too. the the the Buffalo Sabres when they went into their rebuild screwed it up and have continued to screw it up for more than a decade. It’s not like it’s a guarantee. Retools are not a guarantee. That’s why you think you think of guys like, you know, Matthews, Tvaris, Ny, uh East Cowan, hopefully Ben Danford is an NHLer by next year. Um or making his way to it. Maybe he plays 20, 30 games. Like you gotta I think they do have to get younger. I think they do have to get quicker. It’s not easy to do that. So would you trade one of the goalies for Breulak? Hell no. Um Phenom says Sharks moved their franchise player Carlson and look where they’re at now. Um, I don’t know if you know this, but when Eric Carlson was the franchise player for the San Jose Sharks and he won the Norris Trophy, I think he was like a minus 36 that season. San Jose did the right thing and they were not making the playoffs that year either. Hayden says, you know how you can tell these are two really bad teams. How can you tell, Hayden? Hayden said there hasn’t been a single strum scrum the entire game. That’s true. There’s no flame. There’s no tension in this game. There’s Toby. Oh, Domy didn’t do anything with it. That was a nice little run. Ah, Domy is going to get another shot at this. This time with East Cowan. Is DOI going to shoot? He’s going to pass. Shot. McMahon. And a big save by Jordan Bennington. Big big save Jordan Bennington. Wow. I need Jordan Bennington to not be four nations form. Big shot there. And another save by Joseph Wall who’s looked really strong to start the game. Joseph Wall didn’t have to do anything now. He’s looking great. Yeah, Hayden, you make a really good point. There is no tension in this game. Everybody’s like, “Well, listen, let’s play hockey, but let’s not get hurt.” Oh, Snugarude with another shot. I think it was that. No, that’s Kyru. Different different number, Adam. Different number. Uh, boy, you cannot give up opportunities to Jordan Kyu like that. He was wide open. What are we doing? Hayden said even the penalties have been stopped. That’s true. other than the Max Doi one. Like they’ve all been sort of like, “Oh, I I breathe the wrong way. I’m going to the box now.” Uh BC says, “How’s Oiler my Oilers legend Troy Stetcher doing?” Actually, he’s looked really good. And you know what? A credit to him. Also, probably a good time to mention to you that the Leafs defense kind of stinks. Um uh Mukme says, “Beautiful 80s stash boy, Adam. Uh, which actor would you choose to play the role of you in a fictional rockstar life after the success of your school band? Oh man, if the reblers had made it. Ah, who would play me? Everybody says David Borettas and I have a resemblance. Uh, Hayden says a young Josh Brolan. Anybody with a gigantic noggin. If you got a big head, you can play me. You can play me. big head, mild intelligence, mild at best. Um, what else we got here? Uh, David Owens, I snuck away from a date night to watch the end of this. Well, David, congratulations and welcome. You’re missing one of the more competitive Leaf games of the year, and it’s because they’re playing a team equal to them in badness. Shots are 12-6 for St. Louis in the third period. Uh, Stickwood says, “Uh, oh, I already got you, Stickwood. Never mind. Uh, people are saying Brennan Frasier, Matt Damon. Justin says, “I say Jacob Allerty, you know, we both have that chiseled face. We’re both known for that jawline and really important roles in Euphoria. That hot tub scene where is it Jacob Lord? He’s in the hot tub and like his girlfriend just starts a fight with him.” that I saw that on TikTok and I gotta be honest with you. I don’t miss being in my teens and 20s. It’s just it’s loving people when you’re in that age group. Oh my god, you just don’t know anything about life. And it’s painful. That scene is painful. That show’s kind of painful. I’ll be honest. Not my favorite. I know people love it. I don’t I don’t fully get it, but I know it’s a bit of a cultural phenomena. Sadine Magic 15 says, “Only mild intelligence.” Listen, if you want to call me smart, you go ahead. Uh Kaiden says, “Over under for the Leafs. 40.5 wins.” It’s looking like under, buddy. It’s looking like under. We’ll see. Doug Leafan says, “Uh, the guy that could play you is the husband from How I Met Your Mother.” I don’t know who that is. Never watched that show. Jason Seagull. Oh, I would be honored. I love Jason Seagull. I think he’s amazing. Uh, my uh So, so Hayden loves Shrinking. That’s the one with Harrison Ford. It’s on Apple TV. You guys should watch that. I love um uh forgetting Sarah Marshall. I love that where he’s naked at the beginning and and she’s like, “Can you please put some clothes on?” And he’s like, “But if I put some clothes on, you’ll go away.” She’s breaking up with him. And he’s naked. All right, 144 left. Let’s focus on the game. Max Doy taking a defense of his own face off and he wins it. Hell yeah. That’s who you want out there. You want Max Doy, Dakota Joshua, and Cali Yarn Croak. You guys are all playing checkers. Bub’s playing chess. And hey, listen. They did their job. They got an offensive zone faceoff. That was the whole goal of putting that line out there. And the Blues iced it. And out come McMahon, Tvaris, and Knander. McMahon, Tvaris, and Knander. All right, and by the way, welcome everybody. If you haven’t been here for the stream, I’m noticing the numbers going up. So, it is awesome to have you all here. This is one of the closest Leaf games we’ve seen this year. And for the Blues fans, it’s probably one of your closest games, too. I haven’t watched every Blues game, but I know their record ain’t great. Tavvarz wins the draw. Knander just floater in tipped by Tavvarz. I think they that was sort of a set play, but uh Buru Bennington is able to get a hold of that. Braden Shen watching William Knander very closely there before going off. 114 left in the third. Soggs shots on goal. Tied 28-28. Leafs really had the hammer down for the first half of this game. The Blues have come on strong for the second half of this game. Both teams are just horrible and slow and hilarious. But it’s been a good game entertainment wise. If you’re going to pay for a ticket, this would be a good game. If you ignore the wider context, that’s sort of depressing for both of these teams that were in the playoffs last year. Both lost in game sevens, by the way. Blues lost in game seven in the first round. Leafs in game seven in the second round. Uh, somebody said in the chat, it’s egregiously slow hockey. Oh, these teams these teams skate like um there’s lead tied to their ankles. It’s just Oh man, we’re gonna Yo, you know what’s crazy? We’re going to see two of the NHL’s slowest teams go head-to-head in three-on-ree overtime in about 15 seconds here. Holy moly. Are you guys ready? Are you Hayden says, “I still have Lee fans telling me that Minnesota Wild hockey is slow.” It is slow, but not like this. There’s slow that’s effective and then there’s slow that’s bad. I think you know which one the Leafs are. Uh France Wallabel, I see over 2,000 viewers and only 600ish likes. What the f? You know what? France Bell makes a point. Can I can I get a little like spike going? Because the more you guys like this video, the more it’s going to pop up in the algorithm and more people are going to find us. And that’s what I want. I want to bring more people in to Gripper Nation. If this is your first time watching an SDPN stream, I’m Adam Wild. Nice to meet you. It’s a Ballet Bet SDPN Tuesday night stream. Who’s my pick for overtime? Hayden says, “Okay, I’m gonna give you my pick.” I think for the Blues and Blues fans back me up on this one. Jordan Kyu and Craig Bubet did not get along. So, I think it’s going to be Kyru going. He’s he’s looked good tonight and he was benched last week. So, I’m going to say Kyu for the Blues. He’s had some really good looks. Joseph Wall has had to make some good saves on him. And for the Toronto Maple Leafs, you know what? We’ve had a McCabe goal. We’ve had a Lorent goal. Who’s likely to play? Can we get a Max Doi goal? Does that feel right to anybody? Like, I don’t think Sammy Bl is going to play a lot. I don’t know if Matias Machelli is going to play a lot. You know what? No. Bobby McMahon. There it is. I want Bobby McMahon. Jordan Kyu for the Blues. Bobby McMahon for the Leafs. By the way, if the Leafs don’t win the faceoff here, I mean, thank god Joseph Walls in net, but if they don’t win the faceoff here and get possession right off the faceoff, I’m scared. I’m legit scared. Uh, by the way, over the course of their fiveame losing streak, which the Leafs are currently on, they are 04 and one. So, they have one point in their last five games out of a possible 10. Tonight, will it be three of 12 or two of 12? Who’s to know? We’ll find out in the next five minutes of play. Guys, drop a like in that chat. And uh we want to know who’s going to win in overtime. Leafs, Blues, or shootout? I’m going to say Leafs win. Please don’t give me the slowest shoot. Can you imagine? We get a shootout. It’s like two two marble statue teams just going at it. Two ear league teams. Oh, Hayden says 19 rounds and everybody’s hitting the post. And here’s Simone Benois with the Leaf’s 20th shot in the shootout. So, it’s Doy Knander to start here. And they are they’ve already switched off a defenseman, which I don’t understand. Oh, no, they haven’t. Riley. Oh, Knander just gave it up. Now we’re in trouble. Oh, it’s Paro, though. Thank god. Oh, here comes Kyu. Watch out. Oh, and Riley blocked that one. I told you, Kyu, man. He He wants this. He wants to give Craig Baru the double bird. Smash that like button. Like they used to say in 2014 YouTube. Check out this prank. Oh, nice shot by Robert Thomas. And it is turned aside by Mr. Joseph Wall. All right, somebody said eightball time. Here we go. Magic Eightball. Will the Toronto Maple Leafs win in overtime? It is decidedly so. So, the eight-ball says yes, the Leafs will win. I’m going to be honest, it doesn’t look good right now. They can’t. Usually, when they lose the puck in overtime, they don’t have the speed to get it back. So, I feel like um you know, the way that the you know, Bavich just ragged the puck there. I Oh, here we go. Torp Chico. Oh, here we go. We got Doy and we got Neelander, but they’re both exhausted and can’t take advantage of that potential rush. Doi to Tvaris. Doi is going to come off. Tavvarus is going to be alone. Oneon-ree shot and Bennington turn that aside. We’re going to get a O o ozone faceoff draw. Sorry about rubbing my nose. It’s just super itchy. All right, kids. All right, kids. Uh, by the way, our uh the mustache, uh, 53% of you said you love the mustache. 19% of you told me to shave it off. And 28% said, “I refuse to participate.” Wow. All right. Tvarus wins the draw. He’s out there with Cowan and Oel. I kind of like this this pairing, actually. Eastn Cowan has been good tonight. Oel’s been good this season. Tvarus has been an absolute rockar this season. Powen with Robert Thomas on him. Tavvaris through the neutral zone shot and that is also tipped wide. Sunquist sort of fell at the blue line there. I thought the Leafs might have an opportunity. Aiden says there should be an over and back rule in in overtime. Kind of like in basketball when once you cross center, you can’t go back. I 100% agree. Um because I hate like the point of threeon-ree overtime is for a quick exciting resolution to the game. That’s the goal. So why would we allow you to use the entire ice? You should not be able to rag it. Dude, I would even be in favor of a shot clock. Like that’s how anal I am about the fact that I do not want defensive coaches ruining overtime for us. Like once you cross center, you got to get a shot in that hits the net within 30 seconds. Otherwise, turn it over. I don’t know how you would do that though. It’s tough to ref a game like that, you know, like hockey is such a fast game. It’s really difficult. And then we’re debating like is it a shot? Here comes Shen. That puck is deflected into the netting by Morgan Riley. Good little defense there by Morgan. Listen, I know I’m hard on him. I am hard on Morgan Riley, but I will tell you when he does well, I cheer for it because I like Morgan Riley and I want the Leafs to win. Chris says, “Dude, call the game.” You call the game, Chris. All right, I’ll call the game. Tvaris McMahon McCabe out there. Couple of mix and a Johnny T. Puck is won by Tavvaris or sorry lost by Tavvaris but the puck skirts by Colton Pareco back into the Blues end. Pareo brings it up through center. Looks backwards to try to get it back to a player and he’s actually able to do that at the blue line for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Pareo again. The Blues are ragging this and the Leafs fans are booing them, which they should. Like, we’re not we’re not Yeah, play the game. We’re not here to like manage your game. There you go. Kyu trying to make I’m telling you, Kyru is scary. He hates Peru. McMahon almost gets beat by Robert Thomas, but the uh the puck the stick is down for Joseph Wall. Kyru Thomas uh No, that’s not Pico anymore. That’s Broberg. Thomas with the puck up to Broberg. Broberg at the blue line. He brings the puck back out. Blues are ragging it again. Trying to get a change in. They’re getting booed. Holloway who has struggled this year. Kyru still out there taking a long shift. I’m not sure if Jim Montgomery wants him to be out there that long, but he’s Jordan Kyu and he does that and it drives coaches bonkers. McMahon steals the puck. Leafs finally get it back with a minute 10 to go. They’re going to need a change here. I think they’re exhausted. Tvarus fed a really nice pass by uh uh McCabe, excuse me. And he is oneon-ree in the corner. He’s holding on to it so that the Leafs can get a change. And look at that. Morgan Riley gets it. William Knander in. Scores. William Knander. And he’s got a finger to the sky. What a goal. The Leaf’s first win in a week and a half, maybe even two. And it’s a big OT win against the St. Louis Blues. And by the way, by the way, any win against any team is good. You can only beat the team in front of you. I know where the Blues are in the stands stadium uh standings. That’s what I’m looking for. But damn it, the Leafs did it tonight. They flipping did it. That was a great play. That was all John Tvaris. He keeps Broberg, Holloway, and Buchich away from it. Kicks it out to Riley who gives it to William Nelander. I don’t know how he did that. And and he is able to get Bennington to commit too early. Makes two more moves after Bennington goes down and scores. Hayden is in my ear going, “That’s disgusting.” And he’s right. And William Neanders got every right to gloat after that goal. That was beautiful. Beautiful goal. Wow. John Tvaris has been the savior of the Toronto Maple Leafs this year. And that has got to feel good. It doesn’t matter who you beat. It doesn’t matter how you did it. When you’re on a fivegame losing streak, and the Leafs were 04-1 until tonight, you just got to win. And they did it at home and they did it in front of their crowd and they did it in a pretty sexy way. Like that goal that goal that goal was sexy. Uh Hayden says John Tvar should get the belt. John Tvaris for that play alone should be the first star. They’re not going to let him be. I think he’s going to be the third star. But damn, the Toronto Maple Leafs won a game. William Knander with a goal against his own net. But don’t worry, he’ll score against the St. Louis Blues later on and it is the gamewinner. William Knander giveth and William Knander taketh away. It’s just honestly that’s the Leaf season. But damn. Now the question the question being asked in the SDP chat right now, are the Leafs back? And the two answers are they are so back admin. Um and the other answer is they never left admin. I’m gonna say they’re so back because they definitely left. Um, this is a great super chat from Stephen. 10 and0 in the Troy Ster era. True. And by the way, Troy Stetcher looked really good. Rusty Mitchell says, “Rule change suggestion. Instead, take the blue line out in OT. Eliminate eliminate offside checking up. It’s already pond hockey. Just go all the way.” I agree, but there’s too many traditionalists in the NHL. Fart. How are we feeling, Leafs fan? Alyssa Schultz says, “Ally Leafs, let’s go.” Remember, it is Leaf’s pride night tonight and we said it would be homophobic if they didn’t win and they won. Good for them. Uh Rayu says, “The Leafs have now beaten a grand total of two teams that made the playoffs last season.” That’s right. This is a hilarious Toronto Maple Leaf stat before tonight. The Leafs had only beaten one team this year that made the playoffs last year. One team. One. Now they’ve beaten two because the Blues made the playoffs last year. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. All right, I’m just looking at uh Forier says, “That was an awful game for the Leafs.” Ha, jokes’s on you. Every game’s an awful game for the Leafs. Sometimes it’s ugly. Sometimes it’s ugly. William Knander scored on both teams tonight. God bless that man. Richard says, “Notice we finally have goalending.” Yeah. Isn’t that nice? Isn’t that nice? Uh, Gabe says, “Uh, it’s an OT win against the Blues. It’s a start, but we are not back.” Hey, Gabe, don’t harsh our vibe, dude. Gabe, they can only beat the team. Imagine they lost to the Blues. What would you be saying then? You wouldn’t be saying, “Oh, it’s only a loss to the Blues.” You’d be like, “That’s a loss to the Blues. Are you kidding me?” Sammy Bla made a a spinarama pass today, too. Sammy faking Blé against his old team, the Blues. Bonkers. Bonkers. Uh uh Andrew Doctr says we’re still terrible. Yo. Nobody said we weren’t. All we said is are we back? And I would say currently yes. We’ll see about Thursday night against the blue the Blue Jackets. Now it is the Ballet Bet SDP Tuesday night stream. I am your host Adam Wild. And by the way on on Thursday we’re streaming again. So, if you enjoyed it tonight, I hope you come hang out with me because we’re doing this again. And Hayden’s going to be here, too. Will Justin be here or is he leaving us? Yeah, we’ll see. We’ll see if Justin’s too lazy to join us on Thursday. I just called him out. Alyssa, sorry. Silent Rob says, “Tavarus, magic, magical play from Pierre Magcguire.” Very true. Uh, James Stemler, Willie literally started it and ended it. He did, James. He did. Uh, Hawks 23, plan the parade. We’re so back. I like that attitude. Yeah. Hey guys, I had a blast with you tonight. I had an absolute ball. Um, uh, I know that it didn’t always look pretty, but you guys were great tonight. I just so appreciate you coming in and watching. This was a really fun stream to do, even if the hockey was ugly. Uh, the Leafs are slow, the Blues are slow. Uh, both are bad, but the Leafs are less bad, and that makes me a happy boy. So, new SDP tomorrow. Uh, new CJ show Thursday. I am doing the stream Thursday night. VIP episode drops Friday morning and another SDP on Friday afternoon. Baby, SDP just dropping the content. Uh, C. Kinley says, “Hey, Adam, I agree. Riley has been poor defensively, and I’d like him to be a little better, but he has 16 or 17 points in 19 games. Yeah, that’s awesome. That’s great. It’s not that I’m expecting Morgan Riley to be the best defenseman I’ve ever seen on the defensive side of the puck. I am expecting him to be an NHL caliber defenseman, and for a lot of this season, he hasn’t been, but I do like him on Oliver Lararsson’s pairing. So, anyway, I’m going to wrap it up there, guys. Big shout out to Justin Fischer on the SDPN chat. Big shout out to Hayden for running the stream. The stats god. Hayden, love you all. Gripper Nation, new and old. Thank you for joining us tonight and I will see you Thursday night with Ballet Bats SDPN Thursday night stream against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
