Repost from an eagles fan in the NFL subreddit. I think it’s crazy how we are at the bottom, I know that’s gonna change after this season but still after that I don’t see us going too too high.

The problem will be that the defense and the offense are under the same cap
Thats about to change pretty rapidly lol.
This is absolutely nuts for this season. We are so much better than most and should be top 3 on the list in terms of talent & performance
That Carter contract is gonna hit soon
the defense and offense will switch places in the next 2 years. going to be highly paid defensive players and gotta hope we hit on those rookie OL, WR, TE, and RB picks.
Amazing. But… that’ll change next year.
Not for very long, enjoy it this season but by ’27, I wouldn’t be surpised if it’s at the near top.
Notable FA’s after this season on the defense – Blankenship, Dean, Phillips, Adoree
Eligible for extensions – Davis, Carter, Nolan, Ojomo
Down the line – Quinyon, Coop, Jalyx
A number of these guys are going to reset the market at their given positions too.
Now do the offense!
Start drafting heavy on the O side of the ball. I still think Darius Cooper can be a 3 eventually.
Will flip next year. AJ gone start paying the D.
Cheapest defense and most expensive offense. Fair
That number is gonna double or triple in the next 2 years lmao.
We brick walled one of the most feared offenses in the league with a payroll of a bag of chips and a Wendy’s frosty.
Offensive talent is about to go bye bye. Almost the entire o line is either gonna get replaced or take massive pay cuts. AJ will be replaced by a draft pick. Devonta and Saquon will probably stay for a couple of years but Saquon will also go
wow thats crazy
Next year gonna have to draft or pick up Oline and TE early.
We won a Super Bowl with the budget of a Wawa on defense.
Things are going to get considerably more expensive in the next 3 years though and we’ll be running the offense with dudes off the street at WR and TE depth.
Now do the offense
Love it, interestingly in NFC the other top defense Rams is also 2nd less expensive defense and Seattle is 11th less expensive one, are they both drafting well on D as well hmm 🤔 , Howie great job 👏 this is the way to build playoff contenders team every year Go Birds 🦅
Wonder if this can end up being the best defensive unit as a percentage of the cap?
Loooooooot of rookie contracts but Howie has my full trust
Our underperforming, expensive offense balances things out
For now. But some major decisions will be coming during the off-season
Shows how great we’ve been at drafting top tier defensive talent
Cap is expanding significantly in 2026.. he’ll just back load contracts
Carter and Nolan Smith both have 1 more year, plus both have a 5th year option. Quinyon & DeJean have 2 more years (plus a 5th year option for Quinyon). Makuba and Campbell have 3 more years (plus a 5th year option for Campbell). Ojomo has 1 more year. Jordan Davis is signed for 1 more year. Baun is signed for 2 more years.
So the majority of the core are under control for atleast 2 more years. Blankenship, Nakobe Dean, and Jaelan Phillips are the only 3 they are at risk of losing this offseason. I think Blankenship could be back if he takes a team friendly deal, I’d put it 50/50. I think sadly Dean will be gone since they drafted Campbell in the first round to take over, I’d give him like a 10% chance of returning. And I think they will try to bring Phillips back if possible, but it might be tough. I’d give that a 50/50 chance as well.
Now do offense
People need to understand how important drafting is on your cap space.
When you hit on a draft player, you aren’t just gaining a good player. You are _also_ **saving the cap space you would need to spend on their replacement.** It’s like printing free cap. If you’re trading picks for a player, even if they’re the surest-fucking-bet you can think of, you are **also losing the prospect of making cap room by using those draft picks.**
Lemme give a recent example (the numbers are rough estimates, but illustrate my point). The Colts traded two firsts for Sauce. His contract had reasonable APY for his position, somewhere around $20M. But when you include the fact that the Colts could not draft players with those picks, and therefore would need to spend extra cap to “replace” the players who would have been drafted, the total “cost” of drafting Sauce had an impact of $40M on the cap.*
Now, you aren’t guaranteed to hit on a draft pick. And sometimes it’s worth paying a premium for the knowledge that you’ll have a player at a position of need. But that cost is **real** and sometimes **significant enough** that it’s not worth the trade. Even if you think the player is worth the draft pick, _you’re giving up more than the pick itself_.
Just keep all this shit in mind next time Howie doesn’t move a 2nd for some player who you think you’d be happy to take in the 2nd if they were in the draft today. Howie understands all this and makes the moves when he feels the books balance out. There’s a lot of sneaky shit he considers beyond “how good is this player?”

* I don’t like the Colts’ move personally but I can understand why the Colts thought it was a good idea. They are red hot right now and have no clue if they will be next year. Think about how Washington was on fire last year and now they’re reduced to rubble. The Giants set their franchise back _years_ by accidentally winning one playoff game. I don’t like selling the future this way to go all-in “right now” because it’s incredibly easy to get unlucky. But the Colts’ situation is unique and I can at least kinda understand it. They are hot enough that they think they can go all the way _right now_, and wanted to shore up a key weakness to do it.
Howie prefers move 3rds and 4ths in the middle of the season on players who may be impact players or may not. It’s a different philosophy. I prefer his, because you don’t get fucked over as hard when you miss, and it means you get to take more shots.
That will be very different next year
two simple words. HOWARD. ROSEMAN.
Not really when we gotta start paying people soon and offense eats a lot of our money. Definitely JD, JC, Coop, and Q for sure.
Build Howie a statue
Cheapest and the best D
im gonna cry.
Man… I was about to shit on the offense but I want to appreciate how absolutely incredible the defense is. We are fucking elite and I don’t want to downplay it
All we need to do is keep hitting on rookies in the draft, ain’t no worry
Crazy how Philly’s defense is 40 mil cheaper than Cincinnati’s and we’re one of of the top and they’re one of the worst lol
Problem is, the majority of our defense are rookies, and all our money is tied up in our Offense who currently isnt producing shit.
