Is anyone else amazed at how much Broderick Jones has come along this year? I've been very impressed with our player development so far, we're assembling a great group of young players who seem to have fully bought into what this coaching staff is preaching. It feels like we're close to building something special.

  1. Yeah, I haven’t seen a fire Pat Meyer thread in a while, plus Rodgers isn’t really doing his best work back there in the pocket. So is it coaching or player execution that’s helped them go from 32 to top 10?

  2. Ok now compare this on time to throw. It only looks good because Rogders gets the fuck out of there fast.

  3. Broderick has been better than last year, but not by as much as you think. We’re just getting the ball out quicker, and our jumbo package helps as well.

  4. Think back to the Jets game which was not even 3 months ago and Brod and the line as a whole have made enormous strides.

They still need to be more consistent but I’ve liked the progression of the entire line all season, and especially the rookies and younger guys.

  5. Quietly?

    2023
    1st round – Broderick Jones
    7th round – Spencer Anderson

    2024
    1st round – Troy Fautaunu
    2nd round – Zach Frazier
    4th round – Mason McCormick

Pretty sure all of these guys have started games too.

  6. This is misleading imo, more of an indictment on the o-line epidemic across the entire league (seriously- pretty much every fanbase claims they have a bottom 5 offensive line).

If you really wanna see how the Steelers o-line is doing, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND my main man at Steelers Almighty. He does All-22 o-line breakdowns after every game.

  7. Second tier, certainly, but it looks like Denver and Buffalo are in their own tier at the top.

  8. The Steelers are still the 5th worst offense by yards.

Let’s not anoint them elite just yet. Let’s see how the next couple games play out.

  9. I never lost faith in Broderick, dude needed time to develop since he was a raw talent when we drafted him then immediately told him to learn the other side of the line. Not something everyone can do. Now that he is back where he naturally plays and has confidence he is showing why we used a first round pick on him.

Rest of the line has been awesome. Fautanu has looked every bit as good as he was expected to be. Fraizer is a steal in the 2nd and Mccormick in the 4th is also exceptional

(side note, but Khan killed that draft. Fautanu in the 1st. Frazier in 2nd, Wilson² in the 3rd (Roman and Payton Wilson), Mccormick in the 4th)

  10. Is this just the last couple weeks or the whole season? Because this same chart had us bottom 5 just a few weeks ago

  11. For old time fans, Larry Brown moved from tight end to tackle in the 1970’s. Seems like that could be a possibility for Darnell Washington as he has the size and speed and could elevate his $$$ if he made a successful transition.

  12. They are definitely playing better. How much of that is individual improvement and how much is scheme is debatable.

  13. Remember beginning of the year when everyone was saying khan was a failed GM and all his picks sucked?

  14. Or maybe it’s the product of AR not wanting to take a hit so he gets the ball out quick

  15. As always, this team has had peaks throughout the past decade but they can’t consistently do it or translate it to playoff success. It’s worth it to hold judgement until those thresholds are met

  16. It’s almost like histrionic reddit mass hysteria about specific players is complete garbage. Imagine if we benched Broderick Jones after 2 weeks like this subreddit wanted

  17. Rodgers gets rid of the ball faster than almost any QB in the league — and that flatters the O-line. When the ball’s gone in under 2.5 seconds, defenders barely have time to pressure, let alone sack. That speed shrinks the window for failure, so even average protection can look elite on paper. PFF tries to isolate line performance, but Rodgers’ timing still tilts the metrics in their favor. The downside of this is that Rodger’s doesn’t have time to wait for is receivers to get downfield or get open.

  18. This sub needs to take a stance on PFF. Do we hate it, love it, or are we going to demonize it when it doesnt support our claims, and praise it when it does.

  19. Not quietly the Steelers spent two 1st round draft picks on O-line. Plus several additional picks. This should be the case.

  20. One of the many reasons we brought Weidl here. Dude knows how to scout, and his specialty is the Line. I am a Weidl truther

  21. These numbers don’t tell the entire picture.

The o line is helped by the fact the Steelers use the jumbo offense and use the big TEs as extra blockers or to chip.

Also the o line has been bad in the run game.

If you watch any of the games and say “oh yeah Rodgers is not under threat by a collapsing o line” you’re lying.

  22. Mason stepped up into this pocket and showed how good it actually could be, while roger’s been running scared the entire season chucking the ball as quickly as he can most times checking down.

It was honestly refreshing to see Mason in there.Once again , slinging the ball down the field. The same thing happened with Kenny Pickett. This o line kept getting criticized for allowing him to get hit.

Then mason came in for kenny and actually stood in the pocket and moved with the pocket , and the O line over performed.

Personally, I don’t think the problem is with the O line I think the problem is rogers is too old, and hears footsteps and doesn’t have the ability to stay in the pocket like you used to.

The entire offense looks better under Mason. And he should start on Sunday.

  23. The broderick jones hate was always ridiculous. He came in and played great at the position he was drafted to play (as a rookie at that), then got moved + injured and sucked.

That said, if tomlin is getting credit for building an Oline (he should), be consistent when talking about the qb/skill position debacle thats happened since ben left.
