[OC-49ersPlus] Several teams will need a QB in 2026 and if they’re interested in Mac, they’ll need to offer more than you may think. We discuss recent QB trades/picks and what SF should do.

  1. It likely depends on what we think we have in Kurtis Rourke. If he’s just a third stringer, we may keep Mac. If he can be a quality back up, it will then depend on what people are offering. Anything less than a 2nd isn’t worth it because I think Jones will net us a 3rd round comp pick anyway.

  2. We shouldn’t trade until closer to the trade deadline next season. See how our health is and what we have in Rourke.

  3. Better question: who will be our next QB2 project after we trade Mac10 for a couple 2s or 3s?

  4. For what Mac has given us, I’m fine if we trade him in the offseason, he may have maxed out his trade value on that front, and that benefits him.

Having a quality backup is an asset, clearly, he saved our season. We don’t need to hold him hostage. I hope we do right by the guy but if he wants to stay another year I’m cool with that too.

Theres always another rescue project in the pipeline. I never liked Mac before but now I’ve got nothing but respect for the guy. I’m cool if we do just do right by him and give him his opportunity -and if that means he stays with us, than we’re better for it.

  5. Keeping Mac is best for the team, but probably not for his career. He could potentially hold out or request a trade. It’s clear that he’s worth more than his current contract and I wouldn’t blame him for wanting to build on the momentum of this season for a payday.

  6. Trade him to the jets or dolphins whoever has the 1st overall pick can have our refurbished back up to starter for the new team.

  7. If they can get a 3rd or more I’d be fine with a trade but I’d like to keep him on the roster he is a very high end back up if it wasn’t for him we’d be looking at a top 5 pick for this season

  8. Did we stumble onto a cheat code? Use Shanny and create draft capital from castoffs the league always seems to produce. Get as much as we can for Mac and sign the next backup to another 2-year deal. Even if Brock stays healthy for a full season, I wouldn’t be surprised if some desperate team offers something for our backup that’s had a year of rehab with Shanny.

  9. – Trade Mac
    – Sign and rehab Justin Fields
    – Purdy misses time and new levels to the offense are realized with the threat of a true running QB

  10. People saying we can get a quality QB backup forget that we lost a playoff game because we couldn’t field a healthy QB

  11. Keep Mac. Just pay the dude. He got destroyed this season and kept getting back up. Dude is a 49er

  12. Can’t believe Mac Jones is graduating from Shanahan’s QB Rehab program.

Gonna miss Big Mac’s contribution. 🥹

  13. Given the uncertainty from Purdy and Shanahan’s history, I wouldn’t do it for less than a first.

  14. I think it all depends on the offered compensation and how they feel about Kurtis Rourke. If a team offers a couple of day 2 picks for his services it may be worth it as they have a lot of holes to fill. Minnesota is a team to watch out for as they have a potential disaster in McCarthy. I could see them desperate enough to trade for Jones and copy the Colts playbook to get back on track in 2026.

Just thinking about how it’s unfolding with the Vikings, the Trey Lance situation likely plays out similarly in 2022 had he played the full season. Flashes here and there but mostly disappointing with a loaded roster.
