  1. damn best wishes to Dubie

edit nick allen does not seem like a good replacement at all, no idea why this trade makes sense

  2. Astros get IF Nick Allen, who batted .221 with 11 doubles, 32 runs, 22 RBIs and eight stolen bases in 135 games with the Braves in 2025. He was a finalist for the NL Gold Glove Award at shortstop this season after ranking fourth in Outs Above Average (17) in the NL.

  3. Good move! Frees up salary for better players. Yes dubon is a good guy but astros need to assemble a playoff team.

  4. Saving 5 million by replacing an elite glove and mediocre bat with an elite glove and bad bat

    I see the vision Dana

  5. Dubon was a fan favorite but was genuinely terrible at the plate. Low OPS *and* one of the 5 worst players in the entire league at pitches per plate appearance. When you factor in he’s set to make over $6,000,000 on a team already hampered by some big/not great contracts, it makes sense that you wouldn’t want to pay that much money to someone who will, barring injuries, be a bench player.

I have to assume we are trying to make a big FA signing and need every dollar of flexibility we can get.

Edit: Dubon was #191 in wRC+ out of the 209 hitters who got as many ABs as he did in 2025— he’s just flat out not good enough at the plate to pay that kind of money to. For some reason I don’t feel like this fanbase appreciates how bad he is at hitting, maybe because his batting average is decent?

  6. I hope they invest all that savings into a strength and conditioning coach. I’m tired of watching Astros getting injured swinging a bat or catching a ball.

  7. While this is a cost saving move, it seems inaccurate to call it a salary dump. Dubon is a FA after ‘26 and Allen has 3 more years of team control. I’m assuming the FO views it as a move for a younger, controllable role player that they can try and develop rather than getting nothing for Dubon when he walks in free agency.

  8. In 2022, Dubon put up negative WAR in his partial season, and I remember people complaining at how much he sucked.

Pretty cool that he ended up having a really good 2023, won a couple Gold Gloves and starred in some HEB commercials. I’m glad he became the type of player whose loss would make us sad.

  9. Brice Matthews has to end up on the roster at some point. What people seem to forget is he can also play outfield. He doesn’t have to play at second base. There’s a case to be made that Matthews could takeover as your super utility guy, get a starter’s share of ABs, and it wouldn’t harm his overall development because he could still spend time at second base.

  10. The chemistry he brought to the club will be the biggest impact on loosing him. He is an excellent utility player, but above that he was an exceptional teammate. Really gonna miss that dude and wish him all the luck in the world.

  11. Will miss Doobie, no doubt. But my biggest positive going forward is it’s going to open up more playing time for guys like Brice, Melton, Cole & Dezenzo. Which I am all for. Let’s see what we got with these guys.

  12. Fucking awful trade but what I’ve come to expect from this short bus front office we have. Dubon has way more positional versatility and is as good or better defensively. Dubon is even a better hitter. What the fuck man. If you are downgrading that badly on a player who WILL meaningfully see the field for you.. to what? Save 4 million? Fuck outa here.
